In response to popular questions/judgements:
-Our dog is a (nearly) 6 year old male Shiba Inu.
-We do not want to go south, we did so 2 winters ago. There are very few young snow birds. We find the winter to be beautiful, enjoyable, serene and silent. Our ideal conditions.
-The challenges of winter are interesting to us. This is our 4th winter in the Scamp, our third in high elevation. It is evident that hundreds of thousands of others enjoy viewing our winter adventures too.
-Calling me a millennial does not insult me, it only makes clear to me your age. Calling me a hippie or tree hugger is even further from an insult. I’m proud to be connected to nature and truly happy in my simple lifestyle.
That's just awesome. My dogs love the snow too.
This is the first time I've seen one of your videos and I can definitely say it's drawn me in and it is beautiful. I've only seen snow like that one time in my 37 years, but you're right, it is very peaceful. Not sure what the comments you were replying to are but continue doing you, and enjoying every second of this short life we are given. Also, your dog is adorable ❤
Elsa Rhae actually more and more snow birds showing up here your age and with kids! Amazes me every time I meet new people-
Do what makes you happy your dog looks even more happier there will always be negative people on the internet this is where their horrible lives have any meaning so live happy and free...
NO! You two, plus canine, will do as the trolls command! Head south west, don't hug any trees along the way, and no organic food, come on now, toughin up!
I am 56 years old and can only say I am jealous of your life experiences. You and your companion/husband as well as your beautiful dog are living life by your own rules. How many people can honestly say that. You folks are free spirits...….the way life is meant to be. Stay safe and enjoy!
They are so lucky to find eachother.
@jucape You make your own rules in life that's the beauty of it...

Was just about to comment about my jealatinous mass.
@Bella Wolf I'm 63 and I agree fully with you and Paul !
Your pup looked like a little fox hopping through the snow. So cute.
leave the snow on top. It insolates
Beyond adorable.
shannon trejbal yes ! I was thinking the same thing
Friends in town or people who could come out to help? Why put yourself in a position to impact the lives of others?Once again millineals needing rescue. Most people get their snow tires before the chance of snow.
@@beboboymann3823 bye old man!
The good old times.
My partner and I were trying to escape Covid while watching your videos in Hawaii. We're trying so hard to get a car and a scamp or mini trailer. Find BML land to feel some sense of freedom. We'll everyone seem to be doing that. It was almost impossible to get a small trailer, and our dream soon became dead. We watched you guys and truly felt the off grid vibe we longed for. We moved into our family's spring cabin, opened it up for the winter, and bunkerd down while covid passed.
I miss these old videos, Raw simple life. I need to remember, no matter how far you go in life, it's about the steps that got you there.
Kamp enjoying the snow was the cutest thing ever 😂
It really was!!
He jumped like a bunny!
He loves it!!!
Thought he might be a puppy, he was so excited and energetic til I read your comments above
Right. I love watching dogs play in the snow. So pure and precious 💖
In my 20s, I spent a winter in the Jemez mountains in New Mexico, in a travel trailer with a newborn and a 3 yr old. My husband was working on a geothermal well. Our water froze, our sewer froze, but we had propane. I hauled water from a frost free faucet uphill in a bucket. It snowed many times, many days in a row. We made an inner tube run on an abandoned logging road above our campsite. Many challenges, but I count it as one of the best times of my life.
Of course. You were young, a mom, and in love. Those times are always good.
beautiful
Lots of people struggle with how to live a life of joy and fulfillment. Usually it's a struggle of perception. I literally laughed out loud when Baron (?) said "we're so screwed" followed by your smiles and laughter. Congrats on living in the moment and enjoying it.
As a senior woman the 3 of you bring such joy with your vids. Nothing like laughing out loud while living alone and not lonely. God bless you!!
Nothing like a cozy little cottage with a wood-burning fireplace when a blizzard shows up.

I just saw the BEST description of your lifestyle: "It feels better to do stuff than to have stuff."
Yes I am beginning to learn that myself
Where did you see this? I love this!

Carry a few bags of cheap kitty litter or sand with you, it's amazing how much traction it will provide in an emergency

my one year old daughter loves your vlogs, she laughed and clapped and purely loved seeing Kamp enjoying the snow! thank you so much for capturing your adventure. stay warm and enjoy a hot toddie for me! 😊
I grew up in the 70s , so Hippie has never been an insult term in my mind. I think you two are living the ideal Hippie life . 👍🖖🏼 Far Out !😁
Joseph Doughty Same!!
Seeing Camp prance like a little bunny through the snow made my whole entire day.
The music accompanying your dog as it hops through the snow is absolutely perfect!
Dear wonderful adorable couple... how wonderful to find you! I'm a 70 year old lady who was once your age, hitch hiking through Europe on my own, having quit San Francisco College for Women (formerly known as "horny hill." ) My parents were aghast, but it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I was picked up by a trucker in France, & he gave me his studio apt to sleep in while he stayed with a friend. I learned that America was not the center of the universe, but just place on the map of humanity, some of whom would feed you a fabulous seafood lunch and not ask for anything in return. I learned that you should never wear suede boots trying to pee in a hole in the ground at a Youth Hostel. I learned that the world was bigger than I ever imagined, and home-grown tomatoes are the best. I watched the moon landing while the Italian newscaster went nuts. This is THE time in your lives to live free, open to possibilities. My wandering days are mostly over, but in my heart I want to walk down that snowy road with you, not knowing what will happen next. This is exactly what you should be doing now, and someday, when you both are 70, petting the ancestors of your adventuring doggie, you will be so glad you lived adventure and the unknown, and the possible, in your brief, glorious youth! Love and more love, Aurora, Talent Oregon xoxo
This was AWESOME!!! thank you for sharing - how wonderful :)
Those new friends of yours that came out to you are the best .. they're the friends you keep
From Canada here. I think it's adorable that this is most snow you've seen overnight, but I also wouldn't be enthusiastic about doing so in a camper. Mind you, you look warm enough so kudos.
Winter camp where I am in Canada. Crazy deep snow falls...I find it so peaceful as the snow is an sound insulator and makes it SO QUIET....
Yes.. a different peaceful kind of quiet that only the winter world can bring... 🤫. ✌️
This is by far my most favorite Subaru commercial
krissy b 😂😂😂😂😂 I was thinking the exact same thing
I think it's a better commercial for a suburban. Had the neighbor not came to check on them, they would have been stuck like chuck.
They didnt drink the dogs snow pee so it wassnt that good
oh man, haha. That was funny. If I happened across these people living like this I would assume they were insane and would completely avoid them. These two are obviously normal enough though. Just a weird place to try and be happy
Your dog is so cute the ways he’s jumping through all that snow.
Alittle tip for when you get stuck in snow, you can use your floor mats to gain traction.
Didn't think of that. Duh! Thanx
And somehow everytime I get stuck I always forget this
I thought they just bought some tire chains. why not put them on when you needed them most?
...and then leave them behind in the snow
We had a Shiba Inu for 13years. Best buddy ever!! RIP Chaz. We miss you!
You two are amazing! I'll be 70 next year and if I had my way I would be up in the high country anyway. Since my responsibilities won't allow that I enjoy watching your adventures and pray that you are both always safe. Being very much a dog person I really like your little pup. May God bless, protect and keep you all safe and healthy.
As long as I had a stockpile of beer, food and dry firewood, I wouldn't hesitate to get snowed in like that for a few days.
Don't have to worry about perishable food in that weather but it might freeze if left outside. Love the dog hopping through the snow having the time of his life.
He’s so cute!! He looks like a fox jumping lol idk how he’s gonna pee
I lived this life for five years with my first marriage, it was the happiest time of my life!
Awwww.... this is sad :( I get what you’re saying though. I am still in my first marriage (ha ha) but the times when my children were between 5 and 12 were the happiest in my life. We would go camping with our dogs and .... oh, it’s,going to bring tears to my eyes if I don’t stop. Now I have two aggressive and rebellious 18 and 17 year olds and I am public enemy number 1.
When Barron was frustrated and you started scratching his head touched my heart! Kamp is so cute.. Loved this video!
I remember when I lived in Alabama, we got 18 inches of snow. It was the blizzard of March 12, 1993. We lived in a mobile home at the time and not traveling of course, but in the south that kind of snow shuts everything down. It was awesome! No phone or internet and we lost power a couple of days but had a gas stove and kept pretty warm and could cook. My sons were 18 months and 4 and they had a blast. I’m back in WV and no good snow for the last 3 years. I love the snow. Your dog is adorable by the way! Have fun and hunker down!
We had 36 inches in the storm of 93. We also got hit in march of 96. But here in Pennsylvania we get heavy snow quite a bit so it wasn't really a shock. Love it as long as it's not a sheet of ice underneath.
Jessey Kerner wow that was a lot! I hope we get some good snow this year. I live in the most southern part of WV.
I know this was last year but watching from Florida I’m just amazed. I’ve never seen snow.
Scamp was the best part to see in all this snow fun .
Living in northern Wisconsin I definitely feel what you're going through... when you're done driving your car in conditions like this or when it's freezing lift your wiper blades up so they don't get stuck to the window.. it may look and sound silly but when your wiper blades rip or break they won't be scratching the glass on your windshield 😎 enjoy your winter wonderland and stay warm !
Tammy Coates ..live and learn.
And then some asshole will rip them off
The scenery is beautiful. I love the snow but I don’t like being cold.
EXACTLY! SAME HERE AN I WAS BORN IN A SNOW STORM IN DECEMBER IN CHICAGO, IL USA I HATE BEING IN IT THE COLD TOO!LOL! BUT I LOVE THE LOOK OF SNOW IT'S ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!
PR MAGNISOE I THINK YOU GOT YOUR POINT ACROSS!
I don't think I've ever seen eyes so blue before. Beautiful. Kamp hopping around is adorable
Use cooking spray like Pam on the door seals so it won't stick
My mom told me to use Vaseline because my camper door was sticking
Elsa!!! I’m SO grateful for these videos!! 😍You guys and your journey have helped guide me in my journey toward living tiny and sustainably. I’ve been searching for months for a camper, van, or Skoolie. Coolest turn of events - I found a 13’ Scamp for sale a couple miles from my house. The lady who is selling it watches your videos as well. I’m going to pick it up tomorrow 😱😁
Hell yeah! That's awesome! Congrats on the Scamp!
That's so cool!!!
Congrats I want a 16ft scamp because it’s me my husband and I
in that first picture it almost looked like you're pulling that thing with a bicycle.
Funny. That's what I thought and when I shared the video with my husband, he asked the same thing. 😆😆
I thought the same thing!
I was born and raised in Wisconsin always rock your car back and forth also carry and large piece of carpet to increase traction u have a shovel that good _ love pup 🐾❤️
New Transmissions on some cars won’t let you rock from forward to reverse
What does the rocking do?
I was born in canada , allways buy a truck that has 4x4 , problem solved , Subaru called , they said dont use thier car in the videos no more ...
Amazing. We had snow like this in 2010, it snowed for 3 months,....the schools closed. I taught my daughters to knit and crochet during the time.
How lovely :)
Where are you located?
Having lived in Northern Canada for most of my life, here are some winter tips. Keep several bags of cat litter in your truck or rear of car. Provides weight and you can pour it under tires for traction. Always, always, keep candles in your car, and of course a lighter or water proof matches. If you go off road, the heat from one candle will keep you warm enough to survive. Crack a window tho. Keep a spare shovel , blankets or foil space blankets in your glove box. Stuff some granola bars in the side pockets and keep a glass jar for melting snow to drink. Buy a portable battery starter for car as cold kills the battery. Good luck you two!!
You forgot about a bottle of Scotch.
Well, you're not Wong
Jennifer Wong Thank you for that advice!! I live in CA near San Francisco, and we haven’t had snow here since 1975. (Seriously) But Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains are only 3 hours from my front door, so getting stuck in snow is a real possibility. Every year, we see on the news that someone got stuck in the snow and died in their car. It’s because they drove from the SF Bay Area to Tahoe during a snowstorm, and wore shorts and a t-shirt because “it’s warm here”, not thinking how cold it will be if you have a breakdown with your car. But your suggestions are common sense, although I never would have thought of any of them. Great stuff here, thank you again!
You remind me of my childhood in Upstate NY!
The candles lit and placed in an empty coffee can is what provides heat in an emergency when you are stuck in a snow bank in your vehicle. Good gloves and boots can prevent frost bite. A couple of flares to signal for help.
Husband, toddler son, and I lived this lifestyle 40 years ago in a vintage 16-foot travel trailer. It was a great lesson in how little one really needs to enjoy life.
I love watching your guys perspective on life and adventures. By far my favorite channel. Maybe one day we'll cross paths.
I’d love that 😘

I could watch this over and over just to see Kamp in the snow. It is beautiful, I love winter camping.
As I was watching your video I was reminded of the 15 years I lived in Bend, Oregon and why I don’t live there anymore. I always thought the snow was beautiful but I am a tropical gal through and through and I chuckled when I heard you say Oregon. It is a gorgeous place for sure.
I can't breathe I'm in the middle of it and the suspense is killing me
I would be very nervous if I was there. Please be safe ,and it's nice you have friends that came and checked on you. I envy you guys for doing this.
Thomas Ryan I know this stresses me lol
“It’s still dumping, we’re screwed!” My thoughts exactly!
I watch this video several times, we have seen snow, once in 3 years, and it helps my yearning for it. The darkness of the snow clouds just gives me that sense of being there while I watch!

My husband and I were laughing so hard watching Kamp jump around in the snow. Love you guys so much!! Barron did a great job driving in the snow. I bet that was super stressful. Elsa you did an awesome job once again with the video. I’m so glad to see people living their lives in their own way and not conforming. Camp hopping in the snow is the best 💜
Awww shibas are made for cold and snow with their thick fur. He's so adorable.
Love the piano music you chose for Kamp running in the snow. He does look like a fox, so cute. Stay safe!
"Snow Panels"
Like solar panels, but powered by snow!
In the snow you don't have to worry about non perishable foods because you can freeze a lot of things. Your dog is so cute and loves the snow.
That's some serious weather! It was fun to hear you both laughing. Kamp made the best of it too, he was fun to watch leaping through the snow. Thank goodness for your wood stove!
Never ever let that woman go. You will never find another one like her. She's positive all the way.
I agree with you Bob, she is
"The Greatest" !!!!
Yeah, that's a good lady
@Jane Marsee you're awfully harsh. To me I see them as a team and content . PS , shovelling builds character
@Jane Marsee You stupidly took whatever your husband dished out because your husband was handsome...wow, talk about shallow. Just because you are shallow, doesn't mean she is. She seems happy to me. You, on the other hand, seem miserable. You need to get over your ex and quit projecting your hatred of him on to other people.
Jane Marsee wow!! Some people obviously can’t enjoy watching other people be happy.
How sad your life must be.
A blue eyed man, your pup, and plenty of food... let it snow, let it snow, let it snowww! 🎶
mary Puglisi gorgeous
I grew up on a mountain in way more snow than that and your floor mats in your car can give you the traction you need in a pinch. Someone else suggested kitty litter and that was also a staple in the winter. Beautiful place guys congratulations!
The snow will reflect more sun. Leave some in front of the panels when the sky finally lightens up a little.
"thank you grand Turismo 3 for helping me make that turn" = best quote. I've got stuck like that many times I've got out of it like with a pair of socks for traction!
@@silvialivick3034 yes i've used anything with fabric on it. this video is fantastic. i don't envy their frustration though
Yes!! AND wood ashes you keep in a container in your vehicle. Mud or snow..Great traction!
That made me laugh because my husband and I just went through a similar situation. We moved to the mountains (in Socal lol) and everyone told us "yeah it snows but not too crazy". Well last week a snow storm decided to welcome us into the mountain life. We got 27 inches of snow. People from town were saying they hadn't seen it this bad in years! We got stuck on a part of the road heading to our house and I had to jump out of our Subie (same as yours just blue lol) and throw the chains on them on. Honestly the most beautiful but insane thing we've gone through.
Anywhere near the Pacific Crest Trails? Many fellow hikers earlier this year got big time surprised by the storms in May...on top of record level snow from February.
Too many hikers with the tourist mindset just fail to realize that SoCal actually has the highest ascents/descents anywhere on the PCTs and higher mountains than anywhere along the length excepting the Sierras of course. A far cry from being simply "The desert portion"
Angelica Flores I live in the high desert and it snowed all day thanksgiving it was just beautiful. It hasn’t snowed that much here in years. Do you live in big bear? That’s one of my favorite places to go. Never made it up there in the snow I’m to scared to drive up there in snow. ❄️☃️

Aww this brings back so many memories for me, we lived in an 18ft caravan in the Uk with our Bearded border collie dog Jak and our son Otto Just months old for 18 months, off grid, we then got a larger caravan and ended up with an old bus. We now live on boats on the canals of North Yorkzhire, always lived off grid, moved out of home at 15 into a tent and never looked back. Love the videos. X
While in town..you should get a broom, to clean off the solar panels.
aznboycols medium bristle push broom at least the hight of your solar panels, works for anything snow accumulates on. Car, trailer, panels, tables, ground after the shovel, anything.
And buy shoes and socks lol
For real. Solar panels don't require direct sun light so it could prob generate some energy if the sun was popping out a bit
All of our things need to have multiple uses. We have a little hand broom and dust pan that would work on the panels. It was too cloudy to collect power. As soon as the sun peeked through the next day, we cleaned off the panels and started making power again. Check out the video after this one.

My husband and I lived off-grid in the mountains of Northeast Washington for six years. It was beautiful but not easy. Brought back memories of getting snuck in the snow, way too much snow at times, and dogs that hopped like bunnies. Beautiful but very hard and ultimately had enough when the bitter cold of winter became too much to bear. Best of luck to you and your family.
When you get a chance purchase a product call Fluid Film and apply to the rubber of the door to stop it icing up and possibly ripping. It's main product is lanolin from sheep wool oil.
A few years ago we had a bad snow and ice storm where I live. A friend lives in a travel trailer and could not get out of his trailer because the door had iced up. He called me to come help him get out. It was hilarious. Took about 10 minuites with a heat gun and generator to melt the ice in the door enough to get it open.
Cool story dude
I wonder if a quick wipe of the door seal with a little cooking oil would help. My current situation is kinda similar, but I don't have a rigid door to fight with.
@@semperintrepidus16 Maybe in this case but sometimes drifts go above doors and windows of vehicles and they can't get out because of the high wall of snow, outside not the stuck door. Those camping in a tiny vehicle really need to consider ALL kinds of emergencies for serious survival.
@@charly3575 yep. Earlier this year even folks in well built houses had some challenges in Mammoth, CA. 32 feet of snow was the final depth in some parts I heard.
I've also driven across the crest south of lake Tahoe where the walls of snow were about 20' on either side of the road. But I wont claim that I have ever taken my stealth camping to that extreme.
But it wont get that deep near the Oregon coast. The more serious risk there is falling trees. In the north coast area, the climate and soil is so ideal that the trees grow huge with very little depth to the roots. The heavy wind storms that spike in intensity every decade or so tend to knock down mass numbers of trees. Road blockages are quite common and if power gets knocked out in town, then clearing the wilderness dirt roads gets low priority.
Im hearing about this blizzard all the time and im so glad that i live outside of it
The advice Barron gave when you guys got stuck saved me from having to use a wench to get my four wheeler out of mud, ty guys so much! 💕💕
When the car got stuck on the way home, the amount of snow under the carriage not only lifts the car reducing tire contact/traction, the snow touching the undercarriage melts and refreezes holding the car stead fast. Remedy...is digging out all of that snow underneath the first time, which most people probably only dig out the tires. Be ready for some serious work lol.
In the Pacific Northwest it is always “expect the unexpected “. We’ve had it all weather wise, and there is no predicting until it hits the coast. The worst was freezing rain that was beautiful but hard on the power grid. The most unusual was 18” of snow on March 18th at sea level. Fortunately it melted off after 2 days.

I am 75, live in a cabin in the WV mountains and think and wish positive thoughts for you both. You are having a great adventure! Paraphrasing Robert F. Kennedy, many ask why? And I say why not! My experience is I have a months worth of food, including can goods, dehydrated and frozen. I keep about 32 gallons of fresh water, which I must get from on top of another mountain 20 minutes away by vehicle and still have an iron water well good for washing, toilet and shower plus generators. I still teach school as a Substitute teacher so often am heading out to one of our six schools in our very rural county. Life is to be lived. This is not a rehearsal! You are doing it! Helen Keller said “Life is either a great adventure, or it is nothing!” I might have advice for you but not judgement or negative criticism. Your DOG hopping through the SNOW had me CRYING and I just want you to know that I am in LOVE
Your dog is so cute how he hops around and then when you talk to him he’s so attentive it’s cute 💕
A lot of dogs love snow because they can bound through it, which is much more efficient than the trudging we humans are forced to do.
This video inspired me to do something with my life that I actually enjoy and life the movement
SNOW TIRES ARE A MUST TO KEEP ON HAND
Jessie Blanton Even better on the Suby! 😉 (omg, Sorry! Couldn't resist, had very🤯 little sleep). Need some of their hot toddy methinks!😜
I love coming back and rewatching your older vids. Your nomadic scamp life is more appealing to me than your new property experiences, no offense. I live on 40 acres myself in California's central coast area, with tons of space between me and my neighbors. BUT I live with a hoarder so my house is choking. Seeing you out in the open with a minimalist lifestyle is like a dream to me. I really hope you travel come this winter. All that said I still enjoy watching all you videos and your change in living won't stop me from enjoying your journey. Thank you for sharing.
