Stardew Valley is not only the best farming game I’ve played, it is one of my favorite games of all time. That myself and others keep returning to this eight-year old gem each time it gets even the smallest update speaks to how it’s truly a masterpiece in the genre it both reinvigorated and has come to define. It is chock-full of bizarre and memorable characters, moments, and conversations, not to mention a never-ending to-do list that fuels the completionist in me. It’s also an intensely strategic adventure, using its cozy farming activities and cute pixel art to make the deeply engaging time management challenge underneath it all effortlessly inviting. Stardew Valley has earned a spot on your platform of choice as a modern classic, standing proudly alongside gaming’s all-time greats. I’ve played countless hours already and will surely play countless more, because every time I boot it up, it feels like coming home.

No matter how many ‘better’ or deeper games have come out, none of them will capture the charm of Stardew Valley

@@draco2xx The fusion of visuals, soundtrack, characters and feel. It doesn’t feel like a game made for the sake of being a game, it feels like someone’s passion project.

Never expect in my 30 years old gaming experience some indie games make my top 10 videogames off all time, stardew valley, terraria, darkest dungeon 1 and shadow tactics are all incredible games.

Part of the fun is progressing through the game and discovering things you didn’t know were possible. Sure an online guide helps speed up the process, but stumbling upon things is the beauty of Stardew Valley
You can adjust accessibility settings so when you’re fishing, you just have to press the button once and will catch the fish.

And when you think you are done you find Ridgeside Village, SVE, and the 15k other mods which is probably about second biggest modding scene after Bethesda games.

The whole score system is jacked in general but people put so much expectation on it.
This game is a 10/10 because the reviewer may be into lifesims, character building, mini game type fun.
People get mad that their favorite jrpg or fps game doesn't score higher than 7 but it may not be that reviewer favorite genre or they may like that genre and not care as much for the story and rate it mainly on gameplay. Stop caring about scores, if you playing on steam, buy the game and you have 2 hours of game time to refund it.

I've tried playing this about 20 times and it's never satisfied me at all. Because the first playthrough is aimless, like you said, there's no incentive to keep going and finish it.

They aren't. They are reviewing the 2024 version of the game after the latest updates. It does state as such in the video title.
