and the fact that so much of it just isn't goth.. it's closer to punk fashion if anything, i wish they'd given us more trad goth clothes :( but tbf the vampire pack has loads of that
Fireplaces/ hearths were the heart of a house in the days they had castles. People cooked, it gave people light and warmth, so they were soooo insanely important. Huge missed opportunity with fireplaces and fountains as well 😕
It seems very exterior-focused. I don't think they even attempted to add anything that would go inside. Which I guess makes sense. But I agree, we don't really have a good castle fireplace from any other sources, so it would have been great to get one here.
Imagine a fireplace that serves some of the stove functions! Like a proper hearth with a pot hanging from it that could be used to make stews (or Mac and cheese like the cauldron from the spellcaster pack)
Fireplaces, fountains, SPIRAL FREAKING STAIRCASES FINALLY DEAR GOD, gargoyles, decorative crumbly stone ramparts, flags to fly in the breeze and long banners to hang on the walls, lovely tapestries, elegant fancy patterned carpets, medieval wooden dining tables, thrones... This is all off the top of my head. For pete's sake. And yes, for example, the Sims 2 had a custom fireplace that was a STOVE! That'd be perfect in a castle!
I get that the castle kit is just external, but it would’ve been so great to have things like thrones, modular table section to build long tables for feasts, fireplaces, four poster beds and a toilet/garderobe, and decorations like pennants, embroideries etc. Really they should’ve gone bigger and made it a stuff or game pack.
I already knew it wasn't gonna be enough, hence why I didn't vote on it. You can't pull this theme off in a kit, yet ppl voted for it anyway, then complain about lack of items lol 💁🏻♂️
Castle kit could have been a game pack. Think maybe a new vacation world with new collectibles, sculpting skills, maybe renaissance festivals as an event, new jobs. As a concept it had so much potential. 😢
It really did. It's just so random now. All I see is random castles being built in Newcrest or something 😂. Zero furniture that matches etc. Just here's some wallpaper a gargoyle and some fancy windows.
What if it is lol? And they’re just chopping up content to sell us. Sims 4 players have been begging for a medieval pack for so long that it would surprise me if they aren’t planning to milk that like they’ve milked everything else the community expects.
Which is why I voted for rainbow future. Those concepts are still on the table & might be still in the works for future packs but this is it for castles & definitely Goth, punk, emo, grunge clothes. It's been done to death now.
Yeah, I definitely think they're still cute, but not goth. I was really hoping for some trad goth makeup, but the kit is very much more 2020s generic alternative sort of style. Still decent, but not goth.
I really wish they had let fans vote on things throughout the process, closer to what they did for nifty knitting and laundry day. It would help avoid some of the disappointment I think on the fan side.
@@ImJitterbugz i think i voted goth, too (at this point i dont even know what the other options were), but i still remember that all of the 4 options didnt really spark joy, so it was more like voting for the least bad ones haha
The "goth" kit is giving punk. I see what they were trying to do with the pink swatches too going for that pastel goth vibes but I think maybe giving a 2nd pastel swatch would've helped like maybe a light purple too.
@@mwahha6965As a punk, I agree with OP. I see the leather, straps and baggy dark pants that's characteristic of punk fashion. The only thing missing is the plaid, spikes and a battle vest
Yeah i'm not goth but i've done some research of many goth cultures because my friends are from those supcultures. This kit is the most basic B***'t stuff
a Renaissance fair game pack would've been so much fun! they could even make it a more general festival thing, with like a convention center lot type, and each season there's a different type of event like a Renaissance fair, comic con, music festival, etc. then we could actually get more medieval and Renaissance stuff like furniture and clothes!
I think the "dirty line" on the one Castle swatch is for moats. When there is a moat around the castle it will look more realistic because the water tends to make the lower parts of castle walls dirty like that
kits honestly seem like such a waste. we could've had such a cool world, or furniture for both of these, or at least the castle, but no, instead we get subpar clothes and build items that really don't fit.
Kits are just cop outs. The “goth” kit could’ve been a stuff pack and added in more gothic furniture along with hairs and jewlery but instead we got subpar clothing.
I agree! This lines up with my expectations based on the general ages of the dev team, this is probably what they grew up seeing as goth instead of what goth fashions look like now
Not sure about Goth sub culture- but I have been extremely uncomfortable with how much mid to late 90’s and early 2000’s fashion is back recently. It’s making me feel old.
Is it just me that get SLIGHTLY irritated when these are called fan voted? Yes, we voted. But it was SO WATERED DOWN compared to past content votes. Like, two/four options hardly makes this fan chosen.
exactly! maybe if they gave us multiple options for types of clothing or decor, whether we wanted hairstyles or clothes/exterior decor or interior, then i could understand. but they gave us the bare minimum and called it "fan voted" lmao
It definitely doesn't strike me as "fan voted" the way the Knitting pack was. That one, they voted on individual freaking items. These, they were like "Goth? Castles? That's what you want? Okay, let us at it!" ...and then 15 minutes later, opened the door and were like: "DONE!"
it feels like they are going the route of the minecraft mob votes: give a few vague ideas, let the community speculate and build up hype based on the vague ideas, then deliver a product that disappoints a majority of people because of what they thought it would/could be like, while still pleasing a few more easily pleased people, and divide the community on them.
100%! They were like this or that, unlike laundry or knitting that was actually chosen. If the ones I voted for lost (they didn’t) then I wouldn’t have cared but the stuff packs I was invested in.
The line in the stone is common in large stone buildings because of the way stone was mined back then. As you got deeper and over the years the stone would change colour so they would build with that knowledge in mind to create interesting patterns
Seems like the castle kit would’ve worked better as a stuff pack with the addition of fireplaces, fountains, gargoyles, torches, banners, flags, tapestries, wood swatches… it seems unfinished even tho it’s a kit
@briclare in hindsight, the new textures are much better. It's the lack of listening to the community and actual quantity and quality to updates that annoy me and leads to lacklustre updates. I don't even know what the next update is, and I don't even care because it'll be another meh update.
i felt like we were getting that "egirl" vibe a lot more. i know some people were calling it mall goth but this does not look mall goth in the SLIGHTEST lovingly
The Goth Fassion one is Goth, but it's like high-school teenager Goth. And I think a lot of folks were expecting/wanted Lolita or Victorian Goth, which are a completely different vibe to teen goth. And I think that's why some people are disappointed.
I was a goth in my teenage years and still am at heart... and let me tell you, that's not goth, like 2 or 3 things are but the rest is either punk, emo, alt, etc. Don't get me wrong, I like the kit and I'm going to buy it because I love black clothes, but the name could be changed
there is different goth styles. trad goth, victorian, nu goth, mall goth, pastell goth... and you can use the kit for all of them imo, together with vampires, realm of magic clothes and maybe hiar from another pack. or even basegame. just bc it doesnt fit your understanting of goth or your taste, doesnt mean its not goth.
@tobleronemonster yeah exactly, I just think they didn't research. Tbh for me the kit looks like something MCR would wear (I actually like a few of their songs haha). The styles I wanted the most are not in the kit... but oh well, I hope we get something in the future, but for now I'm happy with more black cast items
As someone who was raised by a goth and is very into alt fashion, I ADORE this fashion kit! I love the layers, the different kinds of fabrics/meshes/fishnets. Yes, I can see that this isn’t ‘Goth’, but I’d wear all of these items! I also appreciate the pink/pastel swatches for all of these (because pink is metal too!!) I do see what people are talking about with the lack of decor in the castle kit, but I’m very excited for the other new things they’ve added! There are gargoyles and banners in the Vampires pack alone, but I do agree that having to rely on other dlc/cc to complete the kind of castle build advertised is a bit disappointing. I will still buy this though! I love building historical/fantasy stuff, so adding this pack to my collection of cool build items Is definitely a big bonus for me. Also note that I do not but kits often. I own like- three (Maybe). This is coming from a player who doesn’t buy everything and has a limited budget. For me, these kits are some of the most exciting/interesting kits they’ve ever made, so I’m very excited to buy them. I just so happen to be part of these niches, I don’t expect my tastes to match with anyone else’s.
they did say it was modern goth when we voted for it. i would wear everything in the kit - but not the pink swatches. glad to see some rep for all the pastel goths out there though. they should have added a pastel purple/lilac swatch too.
The goth kit is awful. RoM and Vampires did a better job of providing gothish clothing. It’s so clear that EA is incapable of making decent alt fashion for their game
I don't think incapable, I think they just....don't make the effort tbh. I really liked the grunge kit so I got my hopes up but uh... this goth kit is just tragic. And it looks like stuff they made in years old packs imo.
I don't think they were going for an alt fashion, some of these clothing I could see making gwen and duncan from total drama island. my guess these clothing or more from early 2009 to 2014
Real possibility: could be that Maxis' DEI hiring mandate has led to the creation of a Dev Team that is not really all that diverse from each other... maybe its not an EA problem, per se, but a problem with how Maxis' choose talent.
i think whats difficult about the goth kit is that there are so many groups that fit under the goth subculture. not just alt, but there is stuff like trad, cyber, mall, victorian, etc which all carry the name of goth but have such varrying styles. it would be hard to make all of those groups within the subculture happy with a kit of all things. i wouldve prefered to see trad goth or victorian because i feel like thats stuff the game itself is lacking, but realistically its all subjective
I wish that the castle kit would have come with banners, flags, or something like that. The concept art for the castle looked really good, but the fact that we didn't get it is sad.
If you look at castles, there are often actually quite a bit of color differences in a sharp way like that, either from age or weathering. Though, a lot of times, it’s the lighter bricks on the bottom
After watching a medieval castle building video, the stone used for castle foundations were graded for color. The darker the stones, the more iron it contains, the lighter the color, its lighter in weight but not as strong. So its a thing to use darker stones at the bottom and lighter stones above.
I am more impressed than I thought I would be by the castles kit, when you showed us 16 items in the menu I thought "No way is it worth it" but I think I might get it. My daughter loves this sort of thing and they're always playing castles at school (shes 8) so she will use it loads when building
I think the small amount of items kinda helps to make sure everything looks very intentionally chosen and cohesive together. It accomplishes the vision.
I'm very disappointed in Goth kit. It had so much potential but instead of goth they made a "black alternative clothing" kit. The vampires are more gothic than this.
i, as someone whose fashion illiterate, can you explain the differences so i can understand the revelation more... like i know little goth, no punk or alt...
@@kitty79er Punk fashion generally is very patchy and has various trinkets sewn onto whatever the hell, along with zippers, studs, different textures, patterns, and generally political patches / paint, band logos and also pins. Punk is mainly based on the politics and music, so it can be many things but punk fashion generally is well, how it stemmed from which was out of the working class needing to patch up clothing but people added their own twist to it. Alt is short for alternative, it's an umbrella term for any alternative subculture such as goth, punk, lolita, emo, you get the point however it also refers to the modern wave of alternative which isn't really one subculture and has more trendy fashion Goth has many subcultures in its self... ummm... we got cyber goth, goth lolita, pastel goth, trad goth, romantic goth, yeah I'll focus on romantic and trad goth Trad goth is the traditional big eyeliner black lipstick, generally with the messy combed hair, short fringes along with triangle shaped bangs are common in tradgoth fashion. Romantic goth is kind of just, imagine a stylish vampire lady with the dark reds, purples, blacks, and you get the point. lil trivia thing, goth is also a music based sub-culture, and it stemmed from punk over time into its own thing.
@@NothingtoseehereanywayYeah the main issue here is, as stated, there are many types of goth. They just said it's a goth kit and then when it wasn't the like vampiric style of gothic people are angry. Then the castle just didn't really give much.. I don't know where a castle theme would really fit well in Sims 4 aside from maybe Windenburg? Maybe Glimmerbrook if you go with the like magical castle idea. The same applies for the futuristic theme we could vote on. Neither really fit the game at all. The goth kit at least fits even if it's not what people wanted.
as a pastel goth, I LOVE that we got any addition in this kit, it's also giving mall goth, which I also adore so no; it's not trad goth, BUT, it is still goth
I think this one swatch where the stones are darker at the bottom than at the top is for castles with moats. It is absolutely normal that the stones are darker further down, because over time and due to changing water levels etc, the stones change color. Greetings from Germany, in my home town we have a small castle with a moat :) (Schloss Strünkede, when someone is interessted)
As not really goth as the goth kit seems to be, I can’t help but still be so excited for my sims to have more alternative options than just grunge revival
Ok these kits are pretty disappointing but Kayla NEVER disappoints with her Sims 4 reviews. Always so comprehensive and informative. Also, she's getting pretty dang close to 2 million subscribers. Go, Kayla!
Honestly they did good with the male sim clothes for the goth kit but it is giving a bit of Nu Goth and heavy Mall Goth while most people where expecting more Traditional Goth or Victorian Goth. Though the gloves do look weird with the flat buckles I understand that if they where 3D the bracelets would look wrong with them. Overall as a goth I actually really like the pack and it does give Goth rep just not what people where expecting.
I really appreciate your pack/kit reviews, lilsimsie! You’re so thorough & it’s really helpful in determining whether or not I’m interested in buying them. I started this video being completely lukewarm about the castle pack, and now I’m excited about it! I appreciate your explanation of trim vs. friezes as well; it was easy to understand after your explanation - I learned something new today :)
I like the idea of kits a lot. Being able to do a super specific idea or style so that of that kit fits your personal style or gameplay, they’re perfect for you. You don’t have to buy every kit if you don’t like it or it’s not your style, you’re not missing out on anything big like a new world or any game breaking features. But I do think there should be more for what you’re paying. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but just worth it
I was so excited for the goth kit and I'm SO disappointed. Like... This stuff is clearly not goth, and is more emo/punk orientated. Wtf, was *any* research even done about goth aesthetics and outfits?
I saw someone post on a Sims group that there's no tattoos, hair styles or dyes and the biggest one that stood out to me was the lack of piercings, maybe gages or something. It looks like they were like " here's a button down shirt, don't worry, we made it black"
I was hoping the castle pack would come with the stair extenders that were on the Sims 3 store. That is such a majestic look that would be perfect for this. Missed opportunity.
Yeah I was expecting so much more from the Medieval kit. Medieval is one of my special interests and I'd love another pack that includes so much more items, like banners, flags, baths, beds, etc. in Medieval styles. Clothes as well, like corsets and dresses and tunics. Sadge.
Yeah, that'd be awesome. In general I'd love more things inspired by certain time periods like 60s, 70s, 80s too (and Into The Future, but I know I'm alone with that). I love the idea of making generation challenges adhere to certain time periods but rn with the game it's just a lot of pretending or using tond of mods for every little thing and it still barely working, and that's just not fun. I doubt we'll ever get sth functional like that but maybe in the Sims 5... A man can dream... Even just functional furniture and clothing like you mentioned would make a big difference though.
@@th0rne_999 you just reminded me how weird it is that all the technology and infrastructure and fashion and everything stays the same for your sims across multiple generations. It would be cool to have a "story" mode where you start off in a certain time period and time moves onward after certain milestones.
14:47 sometimes, especially with older buildings, the builders will use one type of brick or stone but then part way through have to switch it for various reasons. maybe they're trying to mimic that with the wallpaper?
Because the team that worked on it was likely all non-alternative people with no real understanding of the goth style and just assumed, like many do, that goth simply means "teenagers who wear black" Back when I was a teen, I wore almost all black and adults would call me goth. I wasn't. I was just a shy teen with a pair of black dress pants and various black shirts.
@@TiBunCosplay I just wanna say that they could at least do research on the goth subculture. And it is also a bad move to let non-alternative people make a kit inspired off of a alternative subculture. And they added demonas ( idk how to spell it ) so they had some understanding of alt clothing.
@@pfftxoxo1502 It is a sub”culture” although not a racial one still deserves respect no? I mean they have movies, literature, music most importantly, and fashion of course and even more! I feel racial cultures should be top priority. But subcultures should also get respect
Yes! Maybe something more like Oasis kit where you get stuff from a specific cultural style. Yet we get another medieval castle like they don't all look the same
I don't want more worlds, especially not in kits. A world is made by the objects as well. Imagine getting an Island Living type world without any suitable decor, it would fall completely flat.
I think the reason that some of the detailing (like on the gloves, and the belt) are painted on rather than 3d, is to prevent clipping with other items, like shirts from other packs and kits. The clipping in general bothers players a lot more than the lack of 3d detailing would.
i think the wallpaper with the line between the dirty and clean stone could be really cool for motes!! it kinda looks like how water weathers down stone. you could put it on the lowest level and put a lake or something, so it looks like it's just in low tide or something
Explanation of the flamingo on the "days of yore" shield (or whatever it was called): Back in the days of yore, when all we had was Sims 1 and no expansion packs, and we needed to raise our environment score so that our Sims could actually succeed and grow and not die of a roach infestation, the easiest way to increase this score in a new save was the lawn flamingo. These little pink creatures only cost 10 Simoleons (if memory serves), yet did so much for your environment score. Thus the meme of a yard full of lawn flamingos was born (back before the concept of a meme was really a thing). I encourage you to search for some images; they make me chuckle with nostalgia, but I imagine it'd be beyond bizarre to anyone who didn't play back then. And now, if you'll excuse me, I suddenly feel old enough to join a retirement community and have an odd desire to play Pinochle with Maude, Florence, and Ester.👵
I love that we have some stuff for our pastel goth bbs also I'm absolutely loving the castle kit because I love playing with the royalty and fairies vs witches mods
I feel like they could’ve made the castle thing a whole pack, like a mini sims medieval type thing. A Scottish highlands themed world, that kind of thing
I'm *hoping* that the real reason behind having the community vote between the medieval theme and the futuristic theme is to gauge our interest in an "Into The Future" style expansion pack vs a historical themed expansion pack... I'm probably wrong, but I can hope.
you can put easesdrop under the selfmade small balcony to "support" it of course we were waiting for spiralcases for modders to clone it to different styles
Goth has many subcultures and the kit definitely fits. however i do wish it were more leaned towards traditional goth since we already have the grunge kit :)
They 100% have no idea what they're doing, they didn't think "oh let's make this very niche goth subgenre" they probably thought "black is goth right?"
I wish we got trad goth but to be fair they did say modern goth. The goth community makes me insane with how much they argue about gothic fashion when there’s so many variations of goth fashion. I’m goth and the amount of people who say people aren’t because their hair doesn’t look like a rats nest with hairspray and they don’t wear a full face of white and black makeup everyday is crazy considering it’s originated from a music genre.
I really want more destinations worlds for whimsical things like a fairy world, an old kingdom world, a futuristic world, those are things I’d love to have to expand my build ideas
I am soooo excited to use the castle kit! Just last weekend I started building a library in britechester inspired by a library in Edinburgh. I was really frustrated trying to get the effect I wanted from the university and high school years packs, so this is absolutely perfect!!
Talking about Goth Galore kit, I’m glad to have it bc I always do the scenario when two twin teens have completely different vibes, and Goth Galore is a perfect match for it. But I was waiting for new hairstyles and tattoos (also new trait and maybe even life goal would be great but it’s just a kit) I’m not a very good builder but I was expecting more build-mode stuff like banners, furniture and etc. But as I’m not a builder, that’s not a big problem for me
I like the idea of castles, I've built a few in the Sims, and I like old-fashionedy, fancy build items and furniture in general. ...however I've already made a big castle in Sims 4 in BASEGAME! Nothing in this kit looks like something I actually need. Here's a tip: Want crenellations at the top of a wall? DIFFERENT HEIGHTS OF _HALF_ WALLS! That's it! It's not as chonky as the ones here, but that's how I got that shape on my basegame towers. I could indeed use some more nice friezes and stairs; however, do I need them to the tune of 5 dollars? With the current cost of groceries...? As for the goth kit, I also like goth fashions, but, AGAIN, I can kinda do most of the looks there with stuff I already have in the game. The makeup won't be _exactly_ the same shapes, no, but I've already had multiple sims who wear black, fishnets, and smudgy eyeliner (which comes with basegame, again). I was kinda hoping for something more like Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way's wardrobe; instead we get a few hoods, buckles, and eyeshadows. Basically my problem with these is the problem most people have with all the kits, in general: DO BETTER. More. More specifics, more unique, more different from stuff we already had. More bang for our buck. I have a few kits that I use the crap out of, which means it _is_ possible to do it right. These feel like the amount of stuff we'd sometimes get in free updates (maybe like three of them, instead of all once, but still). If I'm buying these so I can have my Sims goth it up in a castle, let them GOTH it UP in a CASTLE. ...oh wait, the Vampires pack already exists. Also I can turn my pastel basegame palace into dark colors anytime I want. :P
I bought the goth kit and I was surprise for extra 3 clothing we didn't see 2 days ago. but there's like a glitch with the hoodie and the female sims, for some reason when it's on it make the sims eyes bigger and more child like and when taken off it goes back to normal.(edit: I give it a 7/10 its very good and like that it's not colourful than the others before it but it's not something I see myself using a lot due to how limited it can be.)
I think the intention of the two toned wallpaper was to mimic it being built over time, kind of like how the Washington Monument is has two different colors of brick because of the pause in building it
@@gracesmiley3364 he really does, I'm guessing O- isn't really a high protein diet. Scene was a semi popular style when my brother and his friends were in their mid teens so when Vlad was in a dark printed T with net gloves, I was thrown right down memory lane
having us vote on the general theme was a good idea, but I think an even better one would be a more in-depth vote like they did with laundry day and nifty knitting back in the day. Laundry day is still one of my favorite stuff packs, and I think the community vote really helped with that
God, yes! Laundry and knitting are like, my most used packs. That hanging broom?? Every build. The bucket full of stuff?? Under every sink and in every storage shelf. The _second_ my sims turn 80, guess who comes to visit? Good old rocking chair and knitting basket.
Not one to defend EA, but real castles would sometimes have that on purpose cause the darker stone was stronger (more iron content) and better for the bottom of big walls.
One on hand, I like the castle kit, I like building a lot of castles and it would be useful. On the other hand... I have Felixandre's stuff. And his stuff is better quality all-around and most of it is free, so it's just a no-brainer on my end.
This feels like a step back from the last build kit - at least courtyard oasis had a couple of items of furniture / decor. I'd be interested in seeing a build with wedding stories -- like a beautiful gothic church wedding venue
I think some of us were hoping for build and buy like the Courtyard Oasis Kit. But it looks like if you have Vampires, Get Together or Romantic Garden Stuff you can try to make it work I guess
The way Vlad looks with the lip color is so funny 😂😂😂😂 I'm not a huge fan of either of these, but I enjoyed seeing the review. I did think of the grunge revival when the goth kit came out but the patterns and styles like you said, are very different!
I like the things that came in both kits and they inspire a lot of ideas. I think that the windows in the castle kit are probably my favorite because they inspire me the most! I also like a lot of the clothes from the goth kit, especially the corset tops.
build idea : build the *most normal-looking house possible* but you have to use every item from the castle pack (ok maybe like, just ONE of the doors, but, you get the idea)
The goth kit seems solid, I like goth aethstetic an have for a good part of a decade an I can say they picked a good chunk of goth trends, even adding the pink for them pastel goths ❤ edit: forgot to add they should've added some hairs an stuff but eh it's 5 bucks
A fun idea for Moss in your not so berry challenge could be that they date a member of royalty and they live in a castle but they move out eventually because royalty is too stressful for them. 💚
Thank you for building a castle to display the Castle Estate Kit! I was unsure of the pack after watching other videos where the build stuff where shown on their own, but qfter this video I got so inspired and happy and really want to build my own castle! Will be getting this pack with your code ❤
disappointed that there were no giant banners, flags, torches, chimneys, or actual gargoyles in the castle kit
also more wooden castle variants of the stone stuff. Tapestries would have been a good addition too. and more architectural elements like buttresses
The descriptions that pop up in game when you buy the kit even mention gargoyles but they aren’t in the pack 🤔
There’s gargoyles in the vampires pack
It’s also just a kit

I already knew it wasn't gonna be enough, hence why I didn't vote on it. You can't pull this theme off in a kit, yet ppl voted for it anyway, then complain about lack of items lol 💁🏻♂️
I'd love more flags/pennants, tapestries and gargoyles.
Exactly, this kit might as well have been a sdx drop for get together 😩
Real. As it stands, you can only build castles in Western USA.
Don't make no sense.
It's been done to death now.
the concept art for the goth kit was SO good.. i dont know how they ended up with this, its barely goth lol
Yep. Disappointed.
Yeah, I definitely think they're still cute, but not goth. I was really hoping for some trad goth makeup, but the kit is very much more 2020s generic alternative sort of style. Still decent, but not goth.

@@ImJitterbugz i think i voted goth, too (at this point i dont even know what the other options were), but i still remember that all of the 4 options didnt really spark joy, so it was more like voting for the least bad ones haha
The "goth" kit is giving punk. I see what they were trying to do with the pink swatches too going for that pastel goth vibes but I think maybe giving a 2nd pastel swatch would've helped like maybe a light purple too.
yeah omg why did they make a goth kit and not include a single purple swatch?
Purple agreed. Punk not really. it’s leaning toward cyberdog and goth to me
@@mwahha6965As a punk, I agree with OP. I see the leather, straps and baggy dark pants that's characteristic of punk fashion. The only thing missing is the plaid, spikes and a battle vest
there is a 90 goth vibe, but not even that really
Yeah i'm not goth but i've done some research of many goth cultures because my friends are from those supcultures. This kit is the most basic B***'t stuff
a Renaissance fair game pack would've been so much fun! they could even make it a more general festival thing, with like a convention center lot type, and each season there's a different type of event like a Renaissance fair, comic con, music festival, etc. then we could actually get more medieval and Renaissance stuff like furniture and clothes!

We *NEED* to get these kits to full packs

kits honestly seem like such a waste. we could've had such a cool world, or furniture for both of these, or at least the castle, but no, instead we get subpar clothes and build items that really don't fit.
Kits are just cop outs. The “goth” kit could’ve been a stuff pack and added in more gothic furniture along with hairs and jewlery but instead we got subpar clothing.

I agree! This lines up with my expectations based on the general ages of the dev team, this is probably what they grew up seeing as goth instead of what goth fashions look like now
I agree. 😂😂
Yup
Not sure about Goth sub culture- but I have been extremely uncomfortable with how much mid to late 90’s and early 2000’s fashion is back recently. It’s making me feel old.
Saaaame. I'm excited that my Hot Topic loving teen Sims will finally be more accurate.
Is it just me that get SLIGHTLY irritated when these are called fan voted? Yes, we voted. But it was SO WATERED DOWN compared to past content votes. Like, two/four options hardly makes this fan chosen.
I feel the same way. Calling these "fan voted" is such a joke compared to how they've done it in the past
exactly! maybe if they gave us multiple options for types of clothing or decor, whether we wanted hairstyles or clothes/exterior decor or interior, then i could understand. but they gave us the bare minimum and called it "fan voted" lmao
It definitely doesn't strike me as "fan voted" the way the Knitting pack was. That one, they voted on individual freaking items. These, they were like "Goth? Castles? That's what you want? Okay, let us at it!"
...and then 15 minutes later, opened the door and were like: "DONE!"
it feels like they are going the route of the minecraft mob votes: give a few vague ideas, let the community speculate and build up hype based on the vague ideas, then deliver a product that disappoints a majority of people because of what they thought it would/could be like, while still pleasing a few more easily pleased people, and divide the community on them.
The medieval pack needs a large chandelier, torch sconces, and a draw bridge decor piece
Seems like the castle kit would’ve worked better as a stuff pack with the addition of fireplaces, fountains, gargoyles, torches, banners, flags, tapestries, wood swatches… it seems unfinished even tho it’s a kit
i agree i thought it would have alot more!
it's incredible how we have no expectations at this point but still end up disappointed; ea must be trying to make it a guiness record

It's almost like they could belong in the same pack. Like they make them incomplete, so you buy the others to round them out or something.
Omg this is a genius idea!

I dig it, if you decide to share it, I would love to check it out.
PLS THATS COOL

Please do, that sounds so cool!
That sounds like it would be amazing.
As someone who was raised by a goth and is very into alt fashion, I ADORE this fashion kit! I love the layers, the different kinds of fabrics/meshes/fishnets. Yes, I can see that this isn’t ‘Goth’, but I’d wear all of these items!
I also appreciate the pink/pastel swatches for all of these (because pink is metal too!!)
I do see what people are talking about with the lack of decor in the castle kit, but I’m very excited for the other new things they’ve added!
The whole time you showed the castle things I was thinking: build a cathedral! This stuff would work great for that.
yes! and then the stuff from the wedding pack would also work nice with that i think too!
That is what I was thinking to @ladysaphiras2488
Ooooh that would be really cool!
they did say it was modern goth when we voted for it. i would wear everything in the kit - but not the pink swatches. glad to see some rep for all the pastel goths out there though. they should have added a pastel purple/lilac swatch too.
@@highhoper1143 goth falls under alt. These definitely don’t scream early to mid 2000s alt subcultures either.
Idk I unironically want all the spider swatches irl
i think whats difficult about the goth kit is that there are so many groups that fit under the goth subculture. not just alt, but there is stuff like trad, cyber, mall, victorian, etc which all carry the name of goth but have such varrying styles. it would be hard to make all of those groups within the subculture happy with a kit of all things. i wouldve prefered to see trad goth or victorian because i feel like thats stuff the game itself is lacking, but realistically its all subjective
Also castles often were built over centuries so new quarries and materials would be sourced across the years
After watching a medieval castle building video, the stone used for castle foundations were graded for color. The darker the stones, the more iron it contains, the lighter the color, its lighter in weight but not as strong. So its a thing to use darker stones at the bottom and lighter stones above.
Oh, interesting.
I guess they could have made the transition a little more gradual, but I don't mind to much either way.
What are you putting in these castles and what world do they honestly fit in?
I'm very disappointed in Goth kit. It had so much potential but instead of goth they made a "black alternative clothing" kit. The vampires are more gothic than this.
The clothing in the goth kit is more so just a modern alternative style, less so traditionally goth which is, quite disappointing.
i, as someone whose fashion illiterate, can you explain the differences so i can understand the revelation more... like i know little goth, no punk or alt...
Alt is short for alternative, it's an umbrella term for any alternative subculture such as goth, punk, lolita, emo, you get the point however it also refers to the modern wave of alternative which isn't really one subculture and has more trendy fashion
Goth has many subcultures in its self... ummm... we got cyber goth, goth lolita, pastel goth, trad goth, romantic goth, yeah
I'll focus on romantic and trad goth
Trad goth is the traditional big eyeliner black lipstick, generally with the messy combed hair, short fringes along with triangle shaped bangs are common in tradgoth fashion.
Romantic goth is kind of just, imagine a stylish vampire lady with the dark reds, purples, blacks, and you get the point.
lil trivia thing, goth is also a music based sub-culture, and it stemmed from punk over time into its own thing.
@@Nothingtoseehereanyway thanks this helped me understand a lot more the goth community is just as layered as their clothes

It’s literally just alt not *goth*
I think this one swatch where the stones are darker at the bottom than at the top is for castles with moats. It is absolutely normal that the stones are darker further down, because over time and due to changing water levels etc, the stones change color.

I love the idea of making generation challenges adhere to certain time periods but rn with the game it's just a lot of pretending or using tond of mods for every little thing and it still barely working, and that's just not fun.
I doubt we'll ever get sth functional like that but maybe in the Sims 5... A man can dream...
Even just functional furniture and clothing like you mentioned would make a big difference though.

the goth kit is truly terrible, there’s not a single staple of traditional goth. why? the concept art was so promising 😔

Don't be silly; there can only be one. (Sorry, it was the first one I thought of.)
I'm *hoping* that the real reason behind having the community vote between the medieval theme and the futuristic theme is to gauge our interest in an "Into The Future" style expansion pack vs a historical themed expansion pack... I'm probably wrong, but I can hope.

I think the kit is good for mixing with other items.
I think the intention of the two toned wallpaper was to mimic it being built over time, kind of like how the Washington Monument is has two different colors of brick because of the pause in building it
Bella owns the Goth kit, Vlad looks like a teenage boy who discovered The Used at the same time as his first break up 😂
He literally looks like a 15 year old boy and I think it's because he's so skinny and lanky 😂
Didn’t expect a 40 minute review on kits but here we are😭
The castle kit could also be used to make a gothic cathedral which could be fun
15:05 usually white stones will change colour throughout the years, especially if they're near sea!
why is the shading so bad on it though.
@@violetreaper7944 i know with sandstone, if its near water it becomes very yellow
@@violetreaper7944 whilst what Cecilie is saying is true the shading is just EA being lazy like always 😭
Exactly what I was thinking. AND they come with furniture for every room
I love building castles and would love more furniture to go with the pack but also when talking about staircases I’m desperate for spiral stone stairs
Some of University might work too 🤔
I can definitely see myself using the wallpapers, foundations and windows a lot! I do wish there had been some large banners or tapestries though
I really wish in the future we will get a huge medieval pack this kit is too small for my preference
The way Vlad looks with the lip color is so funny 😂😂😂😂
I'm not a huge fan of either of these, but I enjoyed seeing the review. I did think of the grunge revival when the goth kit came out but the patterns and styles like you said, are very different!
Hello! For those of you annoyed by elders/occult sims moving a lot, do these steps!
about the line on the wallpaper: i think it looks like water damage from when the moat overflows and rises up the side of the building
Thank you for building a castle to display the Castle Estate Kit! I was unsure of the pack after watching other videos where the build stuff where shown on their own, but qfter this video I got so inspired and happy and really want to build my own castle! Will be getting this pack with your code ❤
