Thank you, in my research, your literally the first person I've found that actually talks about the conflicts of bandwidth between the M.2 slots and the SATA ports! After some digging in my manual I discovered for me, the M.2 slots where effecting both ASATA ports, I think it just depends on the motherboard. I'm using the Aorus b450 pro wifi. But thank you for the quick and informative video! Cheers!
I have the Z370m pro4 asusrock and from what I can gather from the manual is that if the m.2 slot 1 is being used than the sata3.0 is disabled. No idea what that means but I'm still trying to figure how to install the m.2 ssd I bought today to replace the hdd it's using now without crashing everything lol
2 AMAZING TIPS that I got from this video are... 1) There are motherboards that only have dedicated slots for M.2 NVME and M.2 SATA SSD. 2) There are motherboards that do have a hybrid M.2 SSD slots that can be use for both NVME and SATA. Awesome video... 👍👍😃😎🙏
This has been an incredibly helpful video regarding m.2 pcie. I have learned much and have learned more about my own motherboard and its intricacies. I am now on my way to purchasing and installing a new fast and powerful ssd!
Also, there are some boards, AMD B450 for example, that only provide a limited amount of PCI-E lanes. The first m.2 slot is usually not an issue because it feeds directly to the Ryzen CPU. But the second m.2 slot may be NVMe *or* SATA. In the first case, if you plug an NVMe SSD, it will take 4 lanes from a PCI-E X4 slot and you can no longer use that slot. If it's SATA, you might lose a SATA port. Always check carefully before you buy new hardware. For example, you may have a monitor with only a DVI port and you might buy an APU and motherboard with no DVI port at the back.
@@ronch550 Hey, is there any workaround to this problem? I want to use my second m.2 slot for a gen 4 nvme but it doesn't work if I have GPU in the pcie slot 1.

@B I S H O P Yes, you can. M.2 slot supports both PCIe and SATA M.2, and SATA port can be used at the same time. Just in case of SATA port not recognised, try change to different SATA port.

@Edward Laing Technically, it does not matter which slot you use. But, M2P_SB slot(under cpu socket) only support PCIe M.2, and all of your M.2 slots are PCIe3.0, so you will not get Gen4 performance.

@Guru Gamer Use different drive name.
@@TaoMStudio these are brand new m.2 not formatted
@Guru Gamer If them exactly the same. Will it matter which one you want to install on? Just use the other for other things.
@@TaoMStudio I thought the one closer to the CPU is used for the OS.
@@TaoMStudio OK. So I’m not sure if I should use the original cables that come with the Corsair 1600i psu as they may be higher quality.
Other options are cablemod or xpg cables or Lian Li strimer cables ...

im still confused and wondered if u could help me please Tao. i have a asus b150m pro gaming motherboard i had since 2015 and would like to get my first 1tb M.2 SSD. now im guessing its got a pci-e 3.0 slot on the motherboard. im looking at the samsung 980. which still uses 3.0. then i am looking at western digital black SN750 which uses 4.0 so thats more future proof if i want to get a proper ATX motherboard or ITX build later. what do u think bro?
You say mix and match but what if I only have 2 SATA M.2 drives. Can I use a SATA M.2 in the top slot/ PCIE NVME? Also what about Gen 3 and Gen 4 compatibility. Can I use a PCIE gen 4 drive and a gen 3 drive in the same system without effecting the potential performance of the Gen 4 drive?
If I install NVMe in a laptop that supports m.2 sata, will it recognize it?
Im curently using A320M-S2H motherboard, and i got an 2,5" SATA SSD for my booting system. Then i realized there is a PCie gen 3 x4 on my motherboard. I just bought an 512GB M.2 SATA. But the question is, can i use that M.2 SATA on this NVMe slot while at the same time im using my 2,5" SSD?
Im planning to change my system boot to my M.2 SATA, please answer this question. Thankyou! Great video btw!😁
@B I S H O P Yes, you can. M.2 slot supports both PCIe and SATA M.2, and SATA port can be used at the same time. Just in case of SATA port not recognised, try change to different SATA port.
So are you trying to say that a nvme pcie ssd fits in the same interface of a m.2 sata 3 ssd slot? There is no difference in there interfaces motherboards?
as long as the m.2 slot supports both sata and pcie, then yes
I got a b450 aorus elite wondering if i could do this i see a slot that says m.2 on it but not sure.
I have the same motherboard and it works in the slot under the first graphic card connector
I don’t think I have m.2 slot on my motherboard. Is that possible?
Hello, my motherboard aorus z490 has M2B_CPU slot M2M_SB and M2A_SB in witch slot is better to install it?
@Edward Laing
what is your exact motherboard model?
@@TaoMStudio it is gigabyte aorus z490 master and my nvme is aorus gen4 1tb
@Edward Laing Technically, it does not matter which slot you use. But, M2P_SB slot(under cpu socket) only support PCIe M.2, and all of your M.2 slots are PCIe3.0, so you will not get Gen4 performance.
Great video, thanks so much for sharing, I'm looking to update an older PC and spotted an NGF PCI slot in it so this is really helpful. Just need to find one that's the right form-factor now.
what case are you using? I like it!
Good quality video! Nice one mate!
Glad you enjoyed it
What is the PC case? It looks fairly small.

The motherboard which i am planning to has a m.2 slot so my question is will i be able to install both types of ssd in that slot that is m.2 sata and nvme ?
Please help me out !!!
Is it ok to put ssd below gpu??
Graphic card is GTX 1050 Ti.
I have a question brother, buy a ssd m.2 sata wester digital green 240gb but in this z170a sli plus it does not detect them I would like to know if it is not compatible with the sata type m.2
@Adolfo Games
I would suggest you looking up your mobo's manual.
im having a b85 pro gamer mother board can i use nvme on it by adapter?
How van you know there’s conflict between Sata base nvme to the sata port 0?
Can I replace the WiFi card/module with mini SSD to get extra storage?
@ Alajor alhassan fatawu Most likely is No. But check your motherboard manual to see the spec.
If I ran 2 M.2 nvme drives on the B550 motherboard… one for the OS and one for Game Storage…. Which one should be in the fastest M.2 lane?
And let’s say I have a 2tb at 6600mb/s and a 500gb at 5000mb/s Does that make a difference?
Thank you for explanation, man! Eventually I understand that better to buy pci-express based m.2 ssd! :)
Very usful info 1 has 1 dim indent the other had 2 ...question why did you have 3 of in their ???
Thanks for this, on my first build so extremely helpful!!!
This! Thank you for the detailed explanation for a guy like me who knows nothing about m.2 ssd's 😂😂
Can I insert M2 into PCIEX 1_1 slot?
hello , A b&m key sata ssd will work on M key nvme slot
@pepe's little bro hey can you help me what key and ssd compatible for asus a320m-k? Does nvme ssd will compatible?
I can't find it in my x470 asus prime pro manual. Can you help me? One m.2 slot is with heatsink and cooling. The other m.2 slot is without. I want to use my cheap WD blue 1TB on the heatsink slot and my Adata spectrix S40G 512gb on the other slot. Does one slot has lower performance and what should I do?
@Alpha97 Here is the manual: bit.ly/2zdsdz2, And Page 13 is what you want.
@@TaoMStudio thaaaankyouu!!
Ok so the question i have is.
Can i use m.2 sata ssd on m.2 nvme slot ?
I am kind of tight on budget and got a laptop with no hdd bay but 2 ssd sockets
@ Altamash Parwaiz As long as your motherboard support it, then yes.
If I have a 2.5 inch ssd and an m.2 ssd with 2 cutouts on the asrock b450m pro4 will that be compatible?
