- This is what Sega should have done for the Daytona USA theme on the PS3. This is something that people would have paid for. Well, I would have at least.
Daytona USA has these little animations when waiting for other players. I think they're amusing. I had searched for a full list of them, but the only other people who had uploaded it either had the text still on it, or no background. Also they were fairly low resolution since that's what the arcade was. So I used the PSN version to get a 720p make of the animations.

Having recently hatched, the baby Hornets make their way to the Speedway
Most of them face certain danger, however, as the large Hornet #14 car rushes toward them.

The baby Hornets always travel in groups.
However, the baby pace cars mostly travel alone.
If a pace car is surrounded by the other Hornets, The pace car would then do a technique called the "Rolling Start Technique". This is done by leading baby Hornets into a speedway. The pace car would then lead the Hornets onto the road. As soon as the flag turns green, the baby pace car will then drive into the pits.
If however, a Hornet is surrounded by the pace cars, the pace cars would then assume the baby Hornet as prey and then begin to chase after it. If the baby Hornet evades the pace cars however, the pace cars will try searching for other hornets that are by themselves.

Surprised they never thought of including it as a bonus for the PC port, especially considering animated screensavers were a popular thing at the time.

You know what, when i saw a 8-players Daytona USA setup in an arcade, and seeing this screen, it pushed me to play it, and it's even better when there's more peoples playing it, because you get bored to play against CPUs with time.

I find it interesting these animations feature a 'pace car', (the red car with the flashing lights at the front of the pack) yet the main game doesn't, not even on the attract screen where all the cars drive in formation around the track as if led by a pace car. I wonder if they had intended to have one at some point.
If you have multiple cabinets that are set up for linked play, you might catch a glimpse of the pace car in the unique attract loop meant for linked cabinets.
If I remembered correctly, The Pace Car is seen on the 1994 Version of Daytona USA's Attract Mode on the Beginner Course.
Judging by the Attract of the 360/PSN Version, They might be using the 1993 Version's Attract Mode.

Hey, how do you get the minis to display without the credits rolling over the top? Choosing the credits option is the only way I can seem to access this screen (on my PS3) but I can't for the life of me find anyway to play them just like this with no text over the top. Thanks in advance!

The cartapilers are usually found in groups of 3. 2 are fast, 1 is slow. They usually have races. The progression of the cartapiler is simple. The species of hornet, can sometimes cling onto each other, this causes a chain reaction that causes multiple groups to end like this

A bit of a late reply, but I was quite a fan of these cars, so I played the PC version (it's like Saturn ver., minus the music...), paused a few times and found these numbers: 00, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 21, 23, 28, 31, 32, 35, 41 (you, of course), 42, 46, 51, 53, 55, 62, 66, 68, 69, 71, 73, 77, 78, 80, 82, 85, 90.
So #00, #41, #69 to #90 are missing. I don't remember #20 being inside.
There are four car that only appeared on coin wait minis.
