The composer of Dragon Warrior (Dragon Quest) SUGIYAMA Kouichi was designated as Person of Cultural Merit at the age of 89 this year. So Mitsuyoshi must keep living at least more 35 years.
Finally I can put a face to the great man behind the "GAME OVER YEAH!!!!!" screen in Sega Rally Championship, and many other epic titles of the golden age. I'm crying.
All these years i thought the songs were performed by a guy who was American, now i find out the guy was Japanese. The amazing voice really fooled me for the past 20 odd years.
You fool, his mission has already been completed hundreds of thousands of times. He doesn't have to try, it just makes me happy. I also have an unhealthy obsession with Daytona USA, so I'm pretty easy to please.
No shit, I wasn't expecting him to cleanly reach those notes at his age but I guess being a studio musician vs live makes all the difference as far as voice preservation goes (having to perform long shows in loud venues for many months of the year)
Japanese is always honor perfection, you wont see them miss a single note in live concert, for a test, if you happened to have record of a song being sang in live performance and then superimposed that live vocal and live band performance on their official music video, they will still an exact match. I ve tried before
@@bpcgos Heh, I noticed the opposite when looking at an I've Sound concert compilation, almost none of the singers were hitting their notes, until KOTOKO rocked up... =) You can also watch some The Black Mages concerts where one of the guitarists (I forget who it was) is kinda all over the place, but he's having fun so I'll allow it.

It's beyond amazing to see these incredibly well produced documentaries featuring the real heroes of the industry: JAPANESE DEVELOPERS... on a platform where, regarding videogames, the norm is to scream, use a forced accent, fake emotions, disinformation, pointless system wars, and those cheesy cringey and clíckbait-esque thumbnails with arrows and a guy opening his mouth trying to look surprised. Archipel, you don't know how good your work is, really. Let me tell you that this is PRICELESS. Thank you.
Back in the day, Japanese game developers were very secretive. You didn't know much about them, like what kind of people they were. They didn't even use their real names in the credits, opting for aliases like "Yu2", "Nakazoo", "TenTen", and "S.Miyahon", that last one of course being the alias for Shigeru Miyamoto. I'm to understand that game companies required these aliases to prevent their employees from being "poached" (hired away) by a rival studio, but I'm not sure about that. The quality of being unknown made these developers seem a bit mysterious and even threatening, especially when considering the legal aggressiveness their companies -- Nintendo in particular -- got up to at the time. Today, these Japanese developers have made themselves more visible. They're doing interviews and documentaries, and Sakurai and Miyamoto appear regularly in Nintendo promotions to talk about the games and other things they have planned. I think it helps gamers connect with the human side of the games they play, the passion and artistry that goes in to making them.
I've heard of a lot of musicians grow tired of their signature hit, but Takenobu Mitsuyoshi REALLY loves what he's created. His face says it all, "Pure Bliss" is what he's feeling.
That's the impression I have. Mitsuyoshi-san has the courage to put his own voice in, saying, 'If no one else is making game music with his voice in it, let's do it.' I am impressed.
This man has a really unique pitch and voice when he is singing in English, I'm really happy to see this video! Thanks again Archipel! or Toco Toco!! :)

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Playing Daytona at the arcades felt modern and vibrant not only due to the highly saturated visuals and finely detailed environment but in great part due to a less obvious choice in musical accompaniment. These themes made their way into the shower singing domain, catchy and unique as they were. Seeing Mitsuyoshi-sama singing them is something I never thought possible.

Because focused, creative, highly produced and researched content like this always struggles to gain mass attention when the masses all prefer the cheap and nasty lets plays, reaction vids, unboxings and other useless mindless dribble that falls under the "video games" banner.
Such a legend in the racing game industry and in general, I remember burning tracks from Daytona USA onto a CD and driving around town blasting those tunes in my first car. Thanks for the upload Archipel, your vids are some of the best on RUclips.

Absolutely brilliant. Everything, from his energy, fantastic sense of fashion, incredible voice and the posing and pointing at the camera during his performance is delightful. What a legend!
Finally putting a face to this voice from some of the best gaming of my life is so amazing. I just got a Saturn again recently and got misty eyed hearing the music again then looked up “let’s go away” and found this. I love it.
19:58 No Mr Mitsuyoshi, we're all glad you kept on doing this and will be eternally thankful! Nothing short of an absolute legend and truly the voice of Sega. You can see him just come to life once he starts signing and both his voice and character is utterly intoxicating. Great to see him singing Burning Rangers as well; even though I played the English version endlessly back in 1998 when it released, I'm fully familiar with the Japanese vocals and it still gave me goosebumps. What a pleasure. Thanks Archipel, you are doing the work of the gaming gods.
this guy's voice has been with me for most of my life, he brings such joy to so many people and seeing him perform always so happy and passionate is incredibly moving. I'm just impressed. This video came in a really good time. This year has been hard for everyone, this goes without saying, but for me personally these past weeks are really wearing me out. And then I saw this video. Precisely cut, well done! And the main subject, Mr. Takenobu Mitsuyoshi. Man... his presence lighten up my spirit! He seems to have such an upbeat nature, it is just impossible to not getting into it. I remembered the good times at arcades, playing at home, and naturally grew fond of games, Sega (interesting how it does a bit of distinction from when it was still Sega Enterprises), and games with a delightful unique sound design. Thanks again, Archipel, your videos transmit real passion. And thanks a lot, Mitsuyoshi-san! There are some people on my list of really interesting, influential and remarkable people on the world, you are on it for sure!
I love it ! There is certain vibe around 90s-early 00s Video Game & Anime music that i absolutely love. Idk if it’s the key of music or chord progressions , but Sega, Dreamcast, Capcom, Konami, etc all have this great musical vibe for that era.
I swear to god, if Sega made a new racing game with Takenobu Mitsuyoshi doing vocals again, everyone would be happy. Hearing that man’s voice makes me so happy, hearing it echo throughout Dave and Busters.
I have so much love for this guy! One of the most heard voices of my childhood. As soon as he started singing Sky High I was immediately transported back to the past when times were simpler and being a kid meant having fun.
Burning Rangers has been stuck in my head since I first heard it in PSO a long time ago. It's been one of my dream games to own for so long, if only it wasn't $800 for a US copy...
I wonder if Takenobu knows how much his music has affected lives across the world. I can say without any irony that this video in particular has helped me through the darkest period of my life thus far. I suppose watching this man embrace his job and have passion for something most people don't respect or think is worthwhile is inspiring. In this cruel, bleak world he decided to get a job working on catchy jingles in simple games designed to entertain people. His seemingly crazy decision to add his own voice to the soundtrack of an arcade game not only ended up making the game famous, but paved the way for his career until everybody knew about him and wanted him to add his voice to their games. Is this the career he envisioned for himself when he was in high school? I doubt it. Takenobu could've chosen to be bitter about not getting a high status career or never forming a mainstream band that would become world famous, but instead he chose to take the opportunities life presented him with and run with it, all with a smile on his face, just happy to be making people smile. Well, he made me smile too and so did you, Archipel. Without you I never would've found out about the man behind the music and heard his story and listened to him perform his classic songs live. Thank you. It means more than you may ever know.
I watched video about 10 times now and I can honestly say this man is a gift that was sent from heaven to Sega. You can see his passion when he starts singing and see the fun pouring out of him. Great dude.
Back in 1995 I was 10 years old, and I was hooked on the arcade version of Daytona USA - you know, the steering wheel and gear stick etc. I WAS HOOKED! I'm back here listening to that soundtrack - Let's Go Away - and it has brought back incredible memories. What a legend this dude really is.
Mitsuyoshi deserves all the recognition in the world for both his great composition work and his singing talent. You can tell he has a lot of fun and just loves making music and singing so much, and it's a joy to watch and listen to. I think it's that sort of carefree fun spirit that made me fall in love with Daytona USA and video game music in general, and that influence has stuck with me ever since. Thank you for talking with him and sharing his story!
All i want in life is for one day to meet this man and tell him how much his music meant to me in my childhood. I think i would cry so much in that moment....he is such an icon
This is awe inspiring to watch! I love the featured tracks, and also really enjoy his work from Virtua Racing with his short, cheery tunes which really defined what an arcade racer should be to me this day. Awesome work on Virtua Fighter 2 and SEGA Rally Championship as well! Thank you so much Mitsuyoshi san!
I remember getting Daytona Usa, on the Saturn and I felt the soundtrack was so weird I did not like it as a kid, now 35 and understanding more from music being a musician myself I Feel what was going on back then This Man is Legendary and the Music he made comes from the soul Love it Thank you sir. I LOVE THIS VID :D and it's a beautiful day.
GOOD LORD YES THANK YOU ARCHIPEL FOR UPLOADING THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That Burning Rangers rhythm has always just been so GOOD I love that freaking baseline !!!!

This video has made me super happy. I really needed this. THank you so much.
Wow I’m amazed at his continued talent
Legendary voice. Puts a smile on my face every time.
I watched video about 10 times now and I can honestly say this man is a gift that was sent from heaven to Sega. You can see his passion when he starts singing and see the fun pouring out of him. Great dude.
Amazing to see this guy sing. Such dedication and energy. Mega!
Indeed, it just feels good to shoot with someone with such a positive energy.
All i want in life is for one day to meet this man and tell him how much his music meant to me in my childhood. I think i would cry so much in that moment....he is such an icon
To finally see the man behind the voice, is truly amazing. Still have goosebumps while typing this.
This was such a great watch, and an even better listen! Perhaps we could see one of these featuring Hideki Naganuma...?
Not much time before the Internet drones eventually culture cancel him for his latest "misadventures". ♫ soul brotha ♫
They just teased he is recording for some mysterious project today. I had to come back and re-experience this video again.
Thank you youtube for sending me here.
🙏🏻
Thanks for watching!
Oh man when he started singing the absolute burst of nostalgia for all the summers in seaside arcades instantly made me shed a few tears. Thank you.
