Xenia, Ohio - On June 30, 2024 at 7:25 a.m., Xenia-Greene Central Communications received a 911 call about a man shooting a gun in the parking lot of an apartment complex near 190 Bellbrook Avenue, and then pointing the gun at the caller. As officers 1 and 2 arrive, the suspect, 23-year-old Kyle Berry is rounding the corner of the apartments and points his gun at Xenia Police. The apartment manager in the parking lot then runs into the apartment building.
As officer 3 exits his cruiser, he commands for Berry to drop his gun. These commands were not followed by Berry and as officers 1 and 2 approach, Berry points his weapon at the officers. Shots were fired by officers and Berry was injured. A Kimber semi-automatic pistol was recovered from the scene. Berry was transported to the Hospital for medical attention and has since been released to the Greene County Jail. Bail was set at $500,000 for Kyle Eugene Berry during his Wednesday arraignment in Xenia Municipal Court for two counts of felonious assault. Berry, may face additional charges once the case is presented to a county grand jury, police said.

@@Wedge-Antilles Cops don't have to wait to be fired upon to shoot someone that is clearly dangerous to the public or the cops. If the bad guy just raises the weapon or points it at someone, the cops can shoot him. If he was in a car and reached for a weapon under the seat for instance the cops can shoot him.
It was already made clear that this guy was shooting at ppl even tho' his gun jammed. He wanted to shoot someone. He didn't drop the gun until he was shot. The cop might not have seen him toss/drop it when he did.
In real life, it takes a second to decide to do something, another second to actually do it and another once you commit to doing something to stop doing it. Once the cop starts to pull the trigger, it will take a second or two to stop.
That isn't a cop thing, that is a human thing.
Doesn't matter if you're driving a car, playing sports, or shooting bad guys. It takes a couple of seconds for it all to play out. Again, the cop might not have known he dropped the gun.

Standard questions. Usually to keep the complainant talking to gather as much information as possible for responding officers. But also as a way for the dispatcher to stay with the call taker to help keep them calm, advise them on what to do, etc. As soon as she knew what the call was, officers were already being dispatched.

as a dispatcher, this dispatcher really ground my gears...at no point did she ask for Kyles description...so the officers had no idea what their suspect looked like...at no point did she confirm what apartment the suspect lived in (yes the caller said apt 2, but ask, is number 2 on the first floor? west side? anybody else live there with him?) there was so much more info that could've been gathered...what kind of car does Kyle drive (in case it's seen driving away upon officer arrival), did Kyle say anything when you confronted him? are you aware if police have been out at his residence before? jeesh she seemed so caught off guard to get a gun run

Unfortunately, of the 100's+ shooting vids with 911 calls (yes, I have watched that many "Police Activity" or other channels' vids), 90%+ of dispatchers are TERRIBLE! RUDE, Impatient, apathetic, zero concern for caller's safety, and as you point out, unprofessional and unskilled at actually assessing the threat and getting god info to relay to LEOs in route. I would LOVE to see an AUDIT of ALL 911 dispatchers to remedy this as I myself have had to call 911 on more than one occasion (welcome to Commiefornia) and the dispatcher was an idiot who did not help the situation.

That officer was bold. Thats not the type of actions you wanna take even if its a poor shot suspect. Going completely out of cover vs aiming between the A-pillar and door gap is pretty significant. You and I might react more defensively, but incapacitating the shooter before he shoots you is a valid approach. So in addition to being bold, the officer was extremely confident in his own shooting skills.
