  • I wanted to demonstrate how subtle changes in the distance between the nozzle and the bed can produce drastically different prints.

    This was the best video I've seen for troubleshooting bad leveling

    That was a great video that illustrated the point you were trying to make. I didn't think such a small setting change would make that big of a difference.

    To level the bed, I believe Creality tells us to home the hot end, then disable the stepper motors to move from corner to corner and raise or lower these as needed. Problem is, when I follow this procedure I can never get the bed level the first time. It was infuriating. Then, I read an article someone wrote on the net. He said to stop using disable stepper motors. So, to move from corner to corner, I had to use the Move command. Doing it this way, I was able to level my bed the first time around! My print is perfect.

      You know when I leveled my bed the other day I thought about this because it seemed when I disabled the stepper I felt like the print head raised ever so slightly as I moved it around

    Hi Tim, thanks for the video!
    That second iteration gave you near perfect adhesion and flow for your print height - fantastic!

    Thanks Tim another informative video on 3D printing, and some important lessons for me to glean.
    PS. do you have the gcode for your test print? I'd like to try what you are doing.

      Ah good point, I should add that to the description. The print I used in the video is this one. www.thingiverse.com/thing:2177790

      @@dorkytim Brilliant, many thanks. This gives me something to do today after following your video fitting a 3D Touch, i also have a new bed to fit, I am going to try out the FBS PEX plate from Wham Bam. I have the creality glass plate on now, but hate the hassle of cleaning the bed with warm soapy water each time to remove the glue.

    • @dorkytim
      @dorkytim  4 года назад

      I found that Windex easily cleans the glue off and takes a couple of seconds. Sometimes, I don't clean off the glue between prints, unless there's a significant difference in what I'm printing.

    Fantastic video! Ypu just gained a new subscriber 😎👍 I just got a 3D printer and loving it so far however seem to spend a lot of time setting up and levelling the bed to get decent layers, when levelling the bed manually with a heated bed (i use feeler guages) is it best to do this when the bed is at running temperature or when cool? Any help is much appreciated thank you

    • @dorkytim
      @dorkytim  3 года назад +2

      It's better when the bed has been heated to account for any changes.

      @@dorkytim brilliant thank you! I come from a mechanic/automotive background so when i use feeler guages for setting up engines etc i have to make adjustments at running temperature for a precise measurement too so thats nice and easy to remember 😎👍

    omg... so the bed leveling precision should be up to 2 points behind decimal... then what about the 3d printers who doesnt have auto bed leveling... thats why its so hard for the beginners..
