    You sold me on this chipper. I went to Lowes and picked one up. The one I got did have the dip sticks on both sides. Thanks for the video.

    Thank you for the great review, after watching you finally twisted my arm on getting one, went one up one size up with the 11.5 chipper shredder, hope it's not overkill, now I can't wait for it to arrive, ordered a husqvarna 240 chainsaw from Amazon to go along with it.

    Just purchased this model, used it for 45 mins. Put about 2 dozen limbs 2 in plus limbs through, no problem.
    The engine started on the first pull, gas on, full throttle, full choke, then back off choke. There's a dip stick on both side of the engine, so the limb shoot doesn't have to removed to put oil in. I guess this was an issue on earlier models.
    In a few months I will be pruning about 3 trees to give it a work out. I didn't do it, be certain not to pick up rocks with the leaves. It seems only small to mid size leaves work in the large hopper best ,twisted stuff not so good. Wear ear plugs, safety glass and leather gloves
    So far , I'm impressed for this base model. Very well made American chipper with a two warranty, way to go DR !

    Finally just ordered this 9.5 chipper/shredder ad glad I waited. Now DR has a pin hitch tow bar for this unit, thank God. I kept waiting for that reason. I really want to be able to pull it behind my lawn tractor. Plus I got it for $699 plus the cost of the tow bar. Awesome....

    • @ericwerner9096
      @ericwerner9096  7 лет назад

      A tow bar would be nice, but it is somewhat unsteady on rough ground and easy to tip over... Sounds like you got a great deal!

    • @PlugNuster
      @PlugNuster 7 лет назад

      Go to www.drpower.com and you will see it for $699. The tow hitch bar is an additional cost. But hey it was worth it.

    After about 6 hours of chipping, I'm still very happy with the purchase. I did stall it a few times trying to feed it big stuff near its limit (or over its limit). I also clogged things up when I was using the bag and overfilled it with chips. Some must have fallen back into the machine on the side with the hammers because it jammed trying to restart it and I had to bust out the socket wrench to clear out the offending chips. It's REALLY tempting to put your left hand on the muffler when you go to pull the starter... don't do it. Train yourself to grab the hopper handle - it's better for keeping the machine stable when you pull anyway. I removed the guard on the big hopper because it baffled me. Works much better now, but don't overfeed because taking all those bolts out to clear a jam around the hammers is a pain.

    I really like the self-feeding feature. My early 90s Bolens 8hp chipper requires the user to push the limb or stick into the blade, which adds quite a bit of time when you're doing a lot of wood. Very few chippers in this price range have self-feeding.

    • @ericwerner9096
      @ericwerner9096  6 лет назад

      It's kinda hard to start now, but still going strong.

  • @stevew3978

    I have this machine. The biggest flaw with it is the very narrow bottleneck of the shredder hopper, measuring a puny 2"x6". Softer vegetation clogs up that narrow shredder hopper throat, constantly requiring very time-consuming unclogging. As for the chipper, the chipper chute self-feeds large limbs too aggressively to the point it causes severe shaking of the entire machine and occasionally stalling the engine whenever large limbs thicker than 2.5" are fed into the chipper chute, even though it's advertised as having a 3.5" chipping capacity. I should have bought the 11.5 model instead, which has a more generous 4"x6" throat and is more resistant to clogging.

    I picked this up at Lowe’s for $349 plus my 5% discount They stopped selling dr chippers and we’re getting rid of there stock. Luckily my local Lowe’s had one in stock because the morning I realized they dropped the price they were all gone. Anyways I put 10 hours on it (installed an hour meter) and and performs better than I thought it would. I run it hard up to a 3” tree. Just gotta feed it slow so the engine can keep up. Make sure you change the oil every 4 to 5 hours.

  • @marvco64
    @marvco64 7 лет назад +3

    I bought the 11.5 and it was great for about 5 hours then the main bearing seized. It was replaced under warranty then there was a factory authorized modification which was done. This modification was to the starting mechanism so that now you have to turn over the heavy flywheel when you pull the starter cable. I can no longer start the machine. It is so hard to pull the starter cable that it lifts the machine off the ground and the chipper/shredder weight is nearly 200 pounds. As it is right now, it's a 200 pound garage ornament!! It's virtually useless and I have three years of warranty left. If they can't do something about this I simply will not buy another DR product and I have purchased several thousand dollars equipment from them!

    The DR video showing this chipper. Showed it pulling the limbs, and leaves in the hopper right down . No having to help them. In 2022 the 410 pro has the 9.2 Hp. Seems the newer models have trouble with the hopper. You have to just put in a hand full of leaves at a time. Wonder what they changed from the model to the 410Pro.? They no longer offer your chipper.

    Looks good and the 11.5 looks even better at $999 on DRs website, alas on DRs UK website shows a price of (=) $2,800. Even allowing for Vat, (an EU tax,) it should only be $1,200. I would buy it IF I lived in the US, but here I just can't.

    How are the blades holding up ? I ran my chipper down to the bone. It was my Dad's, bought in the 80's. I made new blades a couple of times. Re-welded the flywheel back together once... I'm just bored of the rattle box.

    I am torn between purchasing the 3.75 in. 7.0 HP DR Premier 375 Wood Chipper vs the new 4 in. 9.5 HP Detail K2 Gas Powered Kohler Engine Chipper Shredder with DOT Road Legal Tires, Extended Axles and Trailer Tow Hitch. Both are priced right around $1600 (Home Depot has a deal, 20% off the original price of the Detail K2 unit, which brings it to $1600). The reason I am torn between these two models is the following: DR Premier Weight (175 lbs) vs Detail K2 (375 lbs). I don't have an ATV and I'd rather not have to tow the Detail K2 around on my yard with my Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Detail K2 model is much more powerful and offers both automatic chipping or shredding depending on the size of the branches that are being placed into the single hopper. Do you think that mobility will be an issue with the 375 lbs Detail K2 if I am to not use an ATV or SUV, and move it around with just myself around the yard?

      It's never clogged... But I'm careful what I shove into it. Yes, I'm still happy with it, but it can be tough to start sometimes due to the compression... Might want to have some starter fluid handy.

      I have the exact same model. Very happy with it. The shredder WILL clog if you overload it.
      I also just had to remove debris build up around the main shaft of the chipper side. it was keeping it from starting due to the extra friction

  • @PlugNuster

    Do you think it's possible to attach a pin hitch tow bar? I don't like the idea of rolling it all around my property. I know they make one with the pin hitch but it's twice the cost.

    • @ericwerner9096
      @ericwerner9096  7 лет назад

      With a little ingenuity anything is possible... But, these things are kinda top heavy and towing them on uneven ground will cause them to tip over... I recommend moving them around the property on a small trailer pulled by a lawn tractor or ATV.

    • @PlugNuster
      @PlugNuster 7 лет назад

      You might try extending the axle that the wheels are on to give it a wider stance so it won't tip over.

    its a chinese engine Briggs and Stratton imported as its more like a Honda clone the engine block as its a clone of a Honda GX200 engine as far as the engine block as the pull starter, air cleaner and muffler are different, as Kohler is making these Honda clone motors too and other chinese manufacturers. but they are good engines but for Briggs and Stratton for service you have to take it to an authorized Briggs and Stratton dealer. unless u can fix it yourself. as gaskets for these Honda clones will interchange with Honda other parts will be either Briggs and Stratton or Tecumseh depending on what engine it is.
