You can really tell this story probably did way better in book form. The amount of plot twists and world expansion feels like it compressed at least 10 novels in two hours.

I remember desperately wanting to see this movie, even though it had relatively negative reviews.
I really did love it and my desire to see it was not in vain, but I also understand why it had a generally bad reception:
It's actually a lot like the Michael Bay Transformers movies--the selling point is the amazing visuals and CGI, of which most will agree Mortal Engines demonstrated spectacularly well.
But of course, these scenes are very difficult, time consuming, and expensive to make. That being said, most of the movie consists of person-to-person drama, and scenes that are not quite so interesting to watch. That is why this movie fell apart.
I've only watched it in its entirety once, but I'd definitely be willing to watch it again just for the sake of seeing the colossal, mobile, steampunk monstrosities rolling across the screen.

It's a cool idea but I didn't make it through 20 minutes of the movie. This recap is the first time I've known what happened beyond the first portion of the story.
I’ve never heard anyone describe transformers as a movie with amazing visuals and cgi. It’s more like shoving acids and razor blades into your eyes tbh.

Being honest, it seemed to have like a fraction of the power the weapon actually had. Remember it was a Quantum Weapon, it needed much more energy.

Yeah.. In the book it's the other head guy that is actually the main villain, and he's portrayed as a lunatic by the end basically and that's why the use of the weapon makes no sense

I remember reading the entire book series of this and seeing the movie. I ended up hating it because they changed the ending so it can’t have a working sequel. Not just that, but Shrike had a more proper character arc and survived longer and even was revived, Valentine got redeemed before he died, and all of London was destroyed which was a big part of the series, and Anna’s death was much more emotional
Yeah, they really ruined things for the film.

If anyone doesn’t know, this is actually based on a book series of the same name, by Philip Reeve, and I strongly suggest reading it, as it is way better than the movie.
I read the books before the movie released, and was really exited to watch it until I did and realized that I should have just stayed with the books.

Shrike's and hester"s father and daughter type of relationship was actually really heartwarming..
All he ever wanted is to see her find happiness and someone to love..
On the surface lvl he seemed pretty scary but it turned out he cared a lot about her..
Oh yeah for sure, trying to kill Hester cause she's unhappy is a very heartwarming father-daughter relationship 😂

Hence, in order to help her overcome his sadness I will make her like me and if she refuses I must kill her.

Pandora is a girl in greek mythology who was given a box. She was told not to open the box but eventually did on curiosity. The box released many bad spirits. The name pandora in the story and along with the box makes me think this has something to do with it.
It was actually one of the small things that the original author put in and I’m surprised people actually thought about this.
This Pandora had a bad spirit stopper. Kept all the bad boom boom spirits inside the box.

Though in the book Crome is the bad guy and valentine eventually realises that medusa is bad

My feeling towards this movie is exactly my feeling towards steampunk in general: aesthetically interesting but it falls apart quickly under any kind of logical examination.
I dont care for logical examination, generally, retrofuturism does not aims for that. But what infuriates me in the majority of steampunk works is that they only aim for the steam and victorian part, and forgot the punk, like, where is my dystopian futuristic first revolution world? Basically that.
If you do not understand something, tell me, because english isnt my mother language so sometimes I can not articulate words too well.

I’m actually reading Mortal Engines rn, and I can tell you this, they changed pretty much how the entire movie plays out. The premise is the same, but the movie plays out differently.
The book series was absolutely brilliant with a much deeper plot I can’t recommend it enough

If you have ever played the game borderlands, and the mining exovator base at the end of the game, this is esentially what a "major city" would be, and likely would have to be built off of one of these masive towers.
Keep in mind though, that this machine is a MINING DEVICE, along with most of the other massive trucks and automobiles, with refining equipment and facilities taking up massive amounts of space, and typically being incredibly slow moving.
All of this means that the big cities would constantly be being attacked by -THE SUBERBS, wich is an exactly acurate depiction of real life urban darwinism.

I remember reading the trilogy back when I was younger (4-6 years ago), I saw that they were going to make a movie based off the first book. Even though I remember being really excited about it and wanted to watch it when it would come out- I completely forgot about the whole series and the movie-in the making.
Learning that it came out quite a while ago, I'm surprised that I never heard anything about it earlier. But seeing clips and this summary of the movie, I'm glad that it majorly looks exactly what was being described in the book!! Everything looks just the same from what I imagined, it makes me happy ^^

I remember watching this in cinemas, and the 'decent' reviews I think are totally justified, I feel it had awkward character writing, with not much character development, and storyline is also meh, but the visuals, war scenes and premise are AMAZING imo

Sadly, I thought the trailers made this movie look way cooler than it actually was and convinced my brother to go with me to see it in theaters.
One of only two times in my entire life I regret going to see a movie in theaters.
I see this as Agario and the wall is just a giant camper that stays near a virus except without the weakness of smaller people being able to attack it.

The Mortal Engines series is my favorite of all time. The movie wasn't great, but I'm glad is captured what I loved about the books: The image of huge mechanical cities. The writer of Mortal Engines really had this way of describing them. If you found this movie interesting then read the books, they are a lot better and some of the best parts of the books were cut out for the movie (more dialogue with Shrike, etc)
Another great series bye the same author that I would reccomend is larklight
The whole thing looks like a mess and while the books might be slightly better, I find it hard to develop enough interest to check.
I'm still mad about Hester's scar and I can't get past it to enjoy everything else

Btw I've got some good movie recommendations for you to do. Two movies that are terrible, but they'd be great for recap videos. Lawnmower Man 1 and 2. They're hilariously bad, but perfect for recaps. Also, Hollow Man would be a good one to do, too.

Read the books the first one is just plain great the second one focuses on the relationship between Tom and Hester, the third on introduces a larger set of characters and the forth has a great ending, there is also a spin-off series that has some great lore but I don’t think the author highered an editor as there are many plot holes

Which is exactly why it's one of the most disappointing movies ever. Awsome concept, utter failure to execute said concept. Why on earth make a movie about 'cities on wheels warring each other', to have the opening scene with one city attacking a smal village, being the only such battle in the entire friggin movie.

I actually remember watching a pretty similar concept, not that alike, in Kino's Journey, where a whole modern country never stops moving and stomp everything on its way, including other countries. Is a really cool anime, about a person visiting strange countries.

This is one of my favorite movies! I was having a hard time in my life when this came out and I wanted to see it so bad when I seen a trailer and then the turmoil came and years later I finally came across it randomly and it was fantastic. A bit long and a few parts I would have changed but I love it!

I watched this movie like a thousand times but i would like to hear it from your voice.
I feel so good and bad at the same time, because I’m saving time watching recaps, and I feel like I’m cheating the system.
I never heard of this movie, and I love apocalyptic movies and stories and I must say though this looks freaking awesome and wholly original by the looks of it. So thankfully. I only watched 2 minutes of the recap, so I'll shall return to this after I watch this movie.
