I just started watching your videos today and I am hooked. You make things as simple as they are. You don’t over complicate things. Nice work, excellent video!
I tried both the wired stick up can AND indoor wired cam. While both are very similar, I wanted to get the indoor cam due to the smaller size. HOWEVER, the picture quality is very dull and more pixelated on the Indoor cam. Very noticeable and tree branches. You won't noticed it unless you had both to compare. But definitely a huge difference in pic quality between these 2. Ended up keeping the Stickup cam and returning the Indoor cam
I have both and I am amazed how bad the night vision is on the Indoor compared to the Stick Up. Looking at them it may be because the Stick up has 2 infered LEDs verses 1 for the Indoor?
Sounded to be like the Stick Up Cam has better audio than Indoor Cam. Also, the night vision was better on Stick Up Cam. On Indoor Cam, your head and arm were barely visible. Much better quality on Stick Up Cam. I like the size of Indoor Cam, and the 3 seconds pre-record. But the better sound and and video, and mobility of Stick Up Cam wins, for me. Even though Indoor Cam is cheaper.
They both seem really good. I noticed the indoor has lower res with nightvision.. But at daytime indoor wins... I might go with indoor.. cant beat low price..
I have all three generation still functioning and I can tell you each generation got better.. the latest is a lot better than the first and somewhat better than the second generation. The price coming down will definitely help replace the first gen's that I still have
Very well done lots of information there I didn’t know that there were so many versions of the indoor cam now I can make an informed decision I hope they’re paying you because I got more information from you than I did on their website LOL
Thanks for this great and very informative in-depth video. Will the indoor camera lose in WiFi connection memory if it's unplugged or during a power outage?
For indoor use the indoor camera seems to beat the stick up camera in every category. Cheaper, easier to customize motion detection, smaller., same image quality. I like that the stick up cam is cheaper than it used to be but the 2nd gen seems a lot more capable
I am looking to purchase ring camera for a covered stilt car park area. With the key difference being the camera based motion detection(Indoor cam) and PIR based motion detection(Stick up cam) - Shall I go with Indoor cam considering the cost savings? Any advantage in having the PIR based motion detection in terms of sensing distance or accuracy?
PIR is limited to 25-30 feet of detection but the main advantage of the indoor cam in this case is the pre-recording which it will record 3-6 second before motion has been detected and with battery PIR cameras, it will only start recording when motion is detected and it will have a tendency to record late and miss the motion event.
Is it worth getting the 3rd generation of the stick? I do not see so much of a difference on night vision between the 2 & 3. I literally just just ordered the 2nd one camera for 164. But the 3rd I see two for 199
Hey, what do you think is better, Ring Stick Up Cam or Arlo Q (Plus) ? I recently purchased the Ring Stick up Cam, but havn't been able to connect at all through wifi. I was thinking of returning it for the Arlo Q Plus which has an ethernet connection.
Hello, I put a ring spotlight battery for indoors and realized that it is always recording. I didn’t realize you can only disable alerts. Does the indoor camera by itself allow you to turn off the camera completely for privacy or are they all the same in that regard? If not do you have a recommendation of one that does that which will work with my ring app. Thanks
With the indoor cam, there is a toggle switch to turn off recording.. you have to do this manually though every time. I made a video about using the smart plug where you can set the camera to record whenever you are not a home using geofencing or if you have a ring alarm, you can integrate it to only record when the alarm goes off or when it is on entry delay.
Hi @LifeHackster, would you recommend the stick up cam battery or a through-the-glass indoor cam setup like in your other videos. I want to gain visibility to the side of the house and I would do a wired version of a spotlight cam, but I don't have a plug/mount for it so I'm wondering which one you might recommend. Thanks!
Hi thanks for your great videos, i actually bought the Ring stick up cam yesterday but it doesn't do the live view, it does detect motions and record clips, but it always says STREAMING ERROR while going live. Ive reset, factory resent, change its position around my home etc... still same no live view or streaming. The funny thing is I have my old Ring peephole cam using same network and app streaming live and working 100% perfectly. Do you think my device may be defective?
You are the man! This review is exactly what I was looking for when i asked you to do it in a comment a few weeks ago. Thank you! I’m glad you mentioned integrating the camera sirens with the ring alarm. I’ve thought about that too and hope ring will make that option available soon. Also a question for you Lifehackster, could I mount a hard wired ring smart floodlight on a soffit (aka: ceiling mount) or do they have to be wall mounted? I am going to run romex cable to all the corners of my house and put in ring smart floodlights, wire them in series off my current 2 floodlight boxes.
Thank You. Re: to floodlight, Ring doesn't recommend it but you can..the only thing is that you need to install it higher because you will be limited in tilting the camera up...and it will have this "stooped down" look to it.. If you are running cables, then you might as well do a vertical install.
11 11 ...have you heard of “Patrol Mode”?. This allows the camera to automatically and periodically change angles to 4 custom waypoints and if motion is detected a recording and notification is sent. This could give you true 360 degrees of security surveillance 24/7. This function is available in the $30 Wyze Pan, so it’s not a top of the line feature.
My camera is not showing live video. It is not giving me live photage. It shows me after some time like it is taking picture. So what is the problem with it ?
I have a balcony in the new house that is over the garage in the back. I am struggling to see if I should get the Ring Stick Up Outdoor Plug-in camera or the Ring Spotlight Plug-in camera to oversee the driveway and the balcony. Any pointers?
CL4KFL I know you're asking LifeHackster, but if it were me, I'd go with the Spotlight Cam for the simple reason that you would then have a light option that you could turn on and off as desired or link to other Ring products.
WS P no worry, I’m asking him because he has his hands on these products. I’ve thought about that. As soon as I get to see the place I’ll decide which colour to buy. Thanks.
Anyone having a problem keeping their indoor cam connected to their wifi? My indoor cam was working fine till we had a power outage....now it only connects for about 5 minutes....plugged into wall outlet. Anything helps guys!
A lot of IoT devices have problems with WiFi changing channels. Try manually setting a channel on your Wireless Access Point/Wireless Router so that it does not change channels.
@lifehacker I like your RUclips channel, its very informative and useful, but can I ask why you don't cover the major security flaw of using WIFI IP cameras to protect our homes over that of POE cameras? You have your wifi camera on the side of the house if someone wants to enter. They simply throw a wifi jammer or maybe even one of them $5 NodeMCU ESP8266 device with a small power bank over by that camera. That camera then locks up and immediately stops recording to any cloud service or local server. They then walk over and bag the cameras along with their internal SD cards and then proceed to rob your home as well as your over priced cameras. What good is that? People are paying too much for these WIFI cameras, more so now since all these manufacturers (or most of them) have now introduced premium cloud charges on top of the already expensive cameras. You can get way better POE cameras, which record at higher frames, higher resolution, better quality, with better connectivity, which can record locally and can work with multiple different manufacturers systems or servers with ONVIF, RTSP support, with one or two way audio and even I/O connectivity. Can you test a signal jammer with your cameras so we can see the outcome? LOL
The thing about this is that crimes are mostly because of opportunity unless you are targeted..yes I have WiFi cameras on the sides of my house and before they can turn on whatever gadget they have..I will get an alert.. Anyways, I always say PoE is better but having a WiFi camera is better than nothing..
You saved me the time of buying each and doing a comparison. Indoor camera it is for me.. Thanks
I just started watching your videos today and I am hooked. You make things as simple as they are. You don’t over complicate things. Nice work, excellent video!
Thank you, I appreciate it.
Yes sir, I just bought a DJI mini 2! Cant wait to fly it! A little more home surveillance! Lol! Thanks for responding bro! Always awesome!
One of these best reviews on ANY product I've seen! Good job
thanks for your back to back comparison videos. It really helped me making a choice. The 3 second pre-recording plays a big difference.
Ended up keeping the Stickup cam and returning the Indoor cam
interesting, in this video I liked the image quality (when he had the lights on) of the indoor cam better
I have both and I am amazed how bad the night vision is on the Indoor compared to the Stick Up. Looking at them it may be because the Stick up has 2 infered LEDs verses 1 for the Indoor?
The indoor 2nd generation cameras are a huge upgrade.
Thanks for the shootout between the two. I have an indoor cam mounted outside under a roof cover. Works fine.
YEah, I would like to see the siren integration with the alarm system.
I agree.
How do you think the indoor cam would do filming through a clear window in order to sensor/record my narrow back porch/yard?
The stickup battery powered cam is on a whole nother level. What an Amazing experience with the ring stickup cam!
Excellent review of the Ring Indoor and Stick up Cam! I love all your reviews as they are very thorough as you cover all the basics! 😊👍
Will the motion detection trigger the alarm hub too or would I still to set up a stand alone motion detector?
No it will not.
They both seem really good. I noticed the indoor has lower res with nightvision.. But at daytime indoor wins... I might go with indoor.. cant beat low price..
I agree, looks like during daytime the indoor has better quality but the poster above disagreed
I have all three generation still functioning and I can tell you each generation got better.. the latest is a lot better than the first and somewhat better than the second generation. The price coming down will definitely help replace the first gen's that I still have
Yes. The lower price is pretty good...

Thanks for this great and very informative in-depth video.
Will the indoor camera lose in WiFi connection memory if it's unplugged or during a power outage?
Thank you you made it all easy for me to decide.
Which would you use for indoor? How about this vs the Nest cam? Which for indoor?
Salamat Po!
Walang ano man..
Can you zoom in & out on live video?
Thank you 😊
Great video helped alot
Great review. I am getting the Indoor camera. What is your recommendations for outdoors?
For Ring, I would go with their wired spotlight cam or floodlight cam..
Could I use the indoor cam on my covered porch?
I was about the same question. Please help clarify. Can I use indoor cam for my outdoor porch?
I’m 8 month behind but thank you very much
Just ordered the stick up cam solar
Cool...I'll be testing this camera soon outside and compare it with my other outdoor cams.
For indoor use the indoor camera seems to beat the stick up camera in every category. Cheaper, easier to customize motion detection, smaller., same image quality. I like that the stick up cam is cheaper than it used to be but the 2nd gen seems a lot more capable
The image quality is definitely NOT the same; the stick-up cams have significant better image quality!
Can you have either of them run 24/7.. meaning have them on live view 24/7?
Not with Ring cameras... They have planned to have 24/7 recording before but they haven't implemented it yet.
Why would my indoor camera (plug-in) be making a constant white noise sound?
Another excellent video! Thanks!
Thank You.
These cameras are amazing
Very useful information. Thank you very much
If your having the camera look out a window, which is better for this use?
Can you set the indoor cam to start recording in the away mode only ?
I am looking to purchase ring camera for a covered stilt car park area. @@LifeHackster if the stick up cam is plugged in (wired) will it do pre-roll?
Is it worth getting the 3rd generation of the stick? I do not see so much of a difference on night vision between the 2 & 3. I literally just just ordered the 2nd one camera for 164. But the 3rd I see two for 199

A+ Thanks for sharing🤙🏻
Hi LifeHackster, do you know any security camera or motion sensor that doesn't shout out as camera/sensor? (e.g. Google Nest Home Max)
I'm looking for a good outdoor ip camera wireless with good night vision and motion detection and good audio
You just described the Ring camera....
hi bro how are you ? what's the difference between the Elite and that one ?
Does the 3rd generation stickup camera also start recording 3 seconds before motion is detected?
Not the 3rd generation..it is battery based.
LifeHackster even if you plug it in?
Hi thanks for your great videos, i actually bought the Ring stick up cam yesterday but it doesn't do the live view, it does detect motions and record clips, but it always says STREAMING ERROR while going live. You should review the TP Link KASA Spot indoor camera (KC105) with SD card and 24/7 recording...
Nice I actually called ring tech support and asked about 3 second playback and he said it's not supported geez
Ring doesn't really advertise it but all of their " true wired or plugged in" cameras have this feature.
@@LifeHackster so the ring spotlight cam wired have it too then?
Does the 2nd generation stick up cam have a siren option or no siren couldn’t fine anything on the features?
Yes, it does. I think all Ring security cameras aside from their doorbells have a siren function.
You are the man! This review is exactly what I was looking for when i asked you to do it in a comment a few weeks ago. Thank you!

LifeHackster sorry, i mean the actual light, motion sensor light, not the floodlight cam.
Why is it that Ring doesn’t have a Pan and Tilt camera?
11 11 ...have you heard of “Patrol Mode”?. This allows the camera to automatically and periodically change angles to 4 custom waypoints and if motion is detected a recording and notification is sent.

Not yet. They might in their future offerings.
Does the indoor camera work in a non-heated garage? Great video by the way!
He did say -5 degrees to +113 degrees
it is rated for -20C
My camera is not showing live video. It is not giving me live photage. It shows me after some time like it is taking picture.
So what is the problem with it ?

I'll go with the spotlight cam plug in just because of the light... it is worth it.
I have my 3rd gen stick up battery installed oursoora at night can't see nothing bc street lights light so bright:( pleAse help
I just hope that the speaker would not go out like they do on the keypads poor updates
I just bought 2 ring inside cameras hooked one up very disappointed took them back to Lowe's

Wyze will continue recording to internal sd card. They would have to take the camera also. If its mounted up high or hidden then it'll be ok
You are the best life hackster. And Life hackster pin me please
Thank You. I appreciate it.
Ring Stick Up Cam Vs Indoor Cam
3RD gen stick up audio is so harsh
Yes, Ring really hasn't perfected audio on their cameras.
Battery Ring cams are horrible
