LifeHackster Thank you! I love ring products, i have a full home set up of alarm system/cameras....But im struggling to see why the stick up cam elite is (currently) $140 more than the indoor cam. Other than the fact it is water/weather proof.
I have the POE one. As a network guy it was important I get that because it cuts down on all the accessories you need. Ring should have continued to make that camera. Instead of putting a port for the RJ45 on the camera they could have done with most indoor/outdoor cameras have done and put a cord on the camera that has the RJ45 in it and then include a waterproof connector that goes over your network cable. Because I would love to get two more of these cameras for outside to replace my current but separate POE cameras....and just have all ring cameras and integrated better into my home network/smart home network.
Hey I hope you do an update on the plug in version of this camera. It got a big update. Customizable motion zones and a people only mode and a sensitivity slider like my indoor camera has.
Would you be able to open up the indoor ring camera and show us the parts inside like the camera module, the IR, how the Curcuitry looks inside? Thank you
You can actually do the advanced motion zones on it it's In general settings you just say to switch it to wired mode and follow the instructions I have one at my front door with that set up. If you could make a video about it that would be great
LH, are the SimCam products on your list down the road? They look to have some interesting features and I'd love to see them run against your tests. A completely local security cam seems interesting from a security perspective!
Ring currently has the 2nd Gen Stick Up Wired Cam for sale at 99 dollars as well. Will I still get the 3 second pre-record? It seems like I am better off with the 2nd Gen at the same price.
When testing the response time for alerts, what are your internet speeds? I am in a rural area, and internet is not great, and my metal building prevents cell signal inside, but my cell phones are connected to the wifi inside. What are your thoughts?
With Ring, you need a good WiFi signal..at least 5MBPS..up and down.. as to notifications, I test it with my phone’s date LTE connection and not connected to my homes WiFi..
Ok. I have a stupid question. Other than a higher price tag. Why not just get the wired ring spotlight camera and use it inside instead of the indoor cameras? I like the idea of being able to turn the spotlight on while checking on the house at night. Is there a draw back to doing this? Thanks.
Hi... Do you know if the "Elite" (2nd Gen) still comes with the micro USB Power Adapter? OR if now is ONLY powered through PoE? On the Ring website it looks like now it's ONLY through PoE. Do you know?
LifeHackster Ohhh, I see. I hope that when released you can make a review on it and see if it has both OR if with the converter you can connected just directly to a regular outlet plug and use it through wi-fi. As it states you can ise both, Ethernet or Wi-Fi. We’ll see. Thank you very much for your response.
Thank you!!!!!!!! Fantastic review. You are one of the only people to show how to remove the plug to insert outdoor adapter. It says push but……..does it pop out, do i push and slide down, how much of plug comes out? Push and slide up. Thank you, very helpful.
Do you know the size of the battery cover security screw? It's a tiny phillips head screw and when I went to replace my battery in my stick up came today I dropped the screw and couldn't find it. I checked Amazon and they have replacement parts kits for all of my other Ring cams but not one for the Stick Up cam. Same goes for Ring dot com. Thank you

@LifeHackster Quick question - would like to add after-market power adapter to battery version - what is voltage and type (dc or ac) od the original plug-in stick up cam 3rd gen? Read elswhere that they changed connector from mini-uab to barrel but can't find voltage data. Thanks im advance!.
Thanks for your detailed review. I was hoping the new wired cam was going to support POE and be better/cheaper than the old version. Is the Elite just a re-branding of the previous generation cam? If not, I am curious if to know if it still has the large opening at the bottom when you are using POE cable.
Disappointed with the increase price of the Stickup Cam elite, it forces you to get the Ethernet POE Injector when the better way to go is with a POE switch. The Stickup Cam 3rd generation is a disappointment with there attempt to lower the price they reduce the horizontal coverage and the flexibility of the customizable motion zones.
@@LifeHackster Agree. I would expect the majority of users wanting to install with POE would be connecting to a switch. Regretting not picking up a couple of the pre-Elite branded cams when they were discounted on Amazon recently.
Hey Hackster...have you experience stick up cam gen 3 solar not charging? After several weeks of no issues, several weeks ago the battery started slowly draining and despite having several hours of sun a day, it never charges. Seeing lots of post in the community about others having similar issues and so far Ring is silent. Curious if you have also experienced similar?
If you are interested in the battery version - absolutely. It is essentially the same camera for $80 less. If you are interested in the plugin/wired version, it gets a little cloudier. It is also $80 less but you are giving up capabilities; customizable motion zones and the 3 second preview. Are they worth $80? You have to decide. Me - I just ordered the 2nd gen wired stick-up cam, so I think those capabilities are worth the price difference.
Best Buy currently has the 2nd Generation Stick Up Cam Battery and Wired on sale for the same price as the 3rd ($99.99). The mount for the 2nd Gen is more capable than the included mount for the 3rd Generation. You now have to buy a separate mount kit for the 3rd Generation if you want to mount it over the ceiling.
So does the 3rd Gen wired cams still allow you to draw motion zones? Or are we now limited to the lame motion zones like on the older battery models? Also does it still have the 3 seconds of pre-motion video?
Tried out the 3rd gen "Plug In" cameras. These are like the battery stick up cams. They are more limited than the 2nd gen "Wired" cameras in pretty much every way. Only 130 degree view, only 2.4ghz wifi, only 3 motion zones (no drawing), no POE, etc. Just go to eBay and buy some "WIRED" stick up cams. This latest generation is cheap junk in comparison to the previous gen. I think Ring is trying to cut costs and the final product is taking a huge hit.
I am returning the alarm system and the water detector. I have two round motion cameras that stand alone and can be moved around without any wires to interfere. but I cannot find where to recharge or replace batteries??
Yes, this cam will if you integrate it with the alarm and turn off the record switch on the settings.. the camera will only record when the alarm is tripped or in entry delay mode.
@@LifeHackster Can you do a review of the 3rd get mounted outside? How high can be mounted for good video? I want to mount it on the gutter above the garage facing the driveway with a solar panel.
Hey, quick question... Do you happen to have issues with setting up motion zones on this camera? I called Ring once and they told me to reset/re-install the camera again (which I haven't tried, as I was hoping with an update will auto-fix or so). But essentially, what happens is that on the motion zone screen, I cannot see the whole frame of the picture. It's somehow cropped. It's weird and it only happens with this one. I have other like indoor and elite ones. No issue. Only have 1 Stick Up Cam and does that. I which I could edit the whole frame. I think is just an issue with this one itself and might get fixed if I just reset it. But just wondering... Thanks.

So since the 3rd Gen Stick Up Cam is designed primarily for battery power, it only records up to 30 seconds of motion events even when connected to a outlet?

Something cheaper without replacing your whole system would be to invest in a ups backup. Hook it up to the Arlo hub, your modem, and your router. This way in a power failure you will still get alerts and still be recording anything that happens as long as the Internet signal to your house is still going. Depending on what one you get it will probably last a few hours since these devices don’t use much power
Enjoy your videos man! Quick question do you ever have connection issues with your ring cameras?? Sometimes mine go off internet and I check my internet connection and I’m running over 300mbps..???? So it’s strong enough I even have a chime pro??? It doesn’t happen often but sometimes it just goes off? All my other products that run via WiFi always work it’s just my ring cameras

Thanks for the review. As a person with the 2nd gen wired stickup cam, it is disappointing. After reading the pre-release information from Ring, I had come to the same conclusion as you - the different versions seemed like the same camera with different accessories. So, I contacted Ring support and asked if the new plug-in camera had the same customizable motion zones as the previous wired version. They replied “Yes”. They were obviously wrong. Thanks for setting the record straight. Definitely a step backwards.
so its a cheaper camera and does the same.. I was looking to get it .. I ditched the battery and got a wired spotlight cam and its way better.. battery are good for certain things.. like keeping it wireless and remote locations.. where wifi can reach. but for less headache ditch the battery.
Too bad I didn't find this video a month ago before I ordered one of these cameras. Severely disappointed in the performance. I was expecting it to work like the Doorbell Pro since it has a constant power connection, but that's not the case. Debating now if I'm going to run network cable if I should just go with a local NVR type system.
@@anthonyc1883 I assumed that the camera would operate like the "wired" ones since it has a constant source of power when plugged in. Despite this, it is exactly the same as the battery powered cameras. It has the three limited motion zone arcs instead of the fully customizable polygon zones. The cool down/reset time is much longer. I also had problems half of the time with the camera waking up when trying to remote view. It didn't support the snapshot (sudo time-lapse) feature. My Doorbell Pro doesn't have any of those issues so I felt that this would have been a downgrade.

Video quality of the elite vs $50 indoor cam?
About the same I’m assuming.
Did you watch wyze video about the outdoor version
ok I found the battery but I can't get it out
Enjoy your videos man!
I have my 3rd gen battery version outdoors and at night the street lights are super bright in vids can't see nothing
Appreciate you covering this updated version and a comparison will be great to see! Would like to see the updated version from Ring with the powered version.
Thank you.
You should do a review on the new swann floodlight camera.
Hi, how long is the power wire that come with it?
The length is stated in the video beginning at 3:28
Always enjoy viewing your videos.. Thanks for sharing...
My Ring app does not detect or show the battery i put into my Ring stick up cam plugin 3rd Gen ? Anyone knows how to fix this ?
Adding one more point , the plugin version is 110voltage and some one in Asian or other countries with 220v can not use it.
Are you telling me Ring doesn't make local 220v versions in a large market as large as Europe? Doubt
@@catalindeluxus8545 yes all i searched on internet is if i buy ring plugin version , it works on 110v and does not support 220v
what version app do you have? my ring app doesn't have a linked devices under the base station tab
I have 5.19.1. Is your camera subscribed to their protect plan?
@@LifeHackster I'm on 3.19.2 on the standard ring app on android. Yes cam is on my protect plan too. Weird.
Can i record and download footage without subscription
Please compare the Ring Stick Up Cam vs. The Ring Indoor Cam
Thank you LifeHackster. This Ring camera is a little confusing. But you made it very clear for me. The sound quality of the camera is a little disappointing to me. Anyway, Thanks and have a great week.
The volume of the camera audio is a tad low...
can you use Ring stick up cam with doorbell cam on the same app?
@11 11 Thank you!
I just bought Stick Up Cam Wired and Ring App picture didn't refresh. Any idea why? My indoor camera refreshed very 60 second but Stick UP Cam didn't. Thanks
I think because the 3rd gen stick up cam has battery power features..even if it is plugged in..
Would you recommend the litmor wireless cam or the ring wireless stickup cam at there is £10 difference I want a battery one so which do you think is best
Taking notes 📝
:)
Thanks ! Can’t wait for the review of the Stick Up Cam Battery 2019.
I’ll just place a battery on it and it will be the battery powered version :)
@@LifeHackster thats a good one lol
Sorry to be off topic but does someone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account??
I somehow lost the account password. I love any tricks you can offer me!
@Peter Guillermo Instablaster =)
@Thatcher Walker I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
How to reset it
Thanks for the review.
Yes, it is just the same camera..battery with battery power features.
so its a cheaper camera and does the same.. I was looking to get it .. I ditched the battery and got a wired spotlight cam and its way better.. battery are good for certain things.. like keeping it wireless and remote locations.. where wifi can reach. but for less headache ditch the battery.
I always go for a wired or plugged in if I can.
Logitech - Circle 2?
The second gen if I just plug in into my network switch directly then it powers it and gives it network?
Too bad I didn't find this video a month ago before I ordered one of these cameras. Severely disappointed in the performance. I was expecting it to work like the Doorbell Pro since it has a constant power connection, but that's not the case. Debating now if I'm going to run network cable if I should just go with a local NVR type system.
Andrew Chlopik What is it about the performance tht has disappointed you? My camera is still unboxed.
@@AndrewChlopik Darn. too bad. It is the Gen 3 you are referring to? I am thinking my unboxed one (a gift I've not yet had the time to install) is Gen. 2.
@@anthonyc1883 Yes, I had the Gen 3 Plug In model. It had a barrel type power plug. Check the connections on yours, you may have something different. The Elite and the Wired *I think* maybe be different. Wasn't it one of those he referenced in the video?
@@AndrewChlopik Just checked mine. It is micro USB. Definitely not the same as the one the video showed.
OMG I finally got it out Geez
Thank you
You are welcome.
U Setup Ring Stick Up Cam Plug In
I got a set delivered and honestly their way to Big. I don't even want to put them in the entry of my door. they look ridiculous
