It's always been like this since people started living in cities nothing new just a new method. Were you not around when people did anything to get RUclips famous
I kind of miss the days when you would see someone use the same palette to make a couple of different looks because it showed the versatility of a palette.
Yes!!!! And it was about teaching you how to use the product or pair products/colours together rather than just reviewing everything. Even if I feel like I don’t NEED a tutorial these days, I still enjoy watching them 🤷🏼♀
I didn’t realise at the time but it was one of the best things about Pixiwoo- you’d see them using products they loved several videos in a row and it always helped it seem genuine.
Absolutely. I signed up to a certain influencer I shan't name's RUclips members because the explicit promise was that older palettes would be reused and shown off for versatility - but I find that no, nope, it's just "reusing" the most recent trendy palette. In fact, I really need to go cancel that membership... thanks for the reminder!
Absolutely. I am honestly so sick of seeing a product only once and then we’re moving onto a new one. Like… I do not have the time or money to buy every single product that an influencer is excited about. I would much rather see a get ready with me Vlog, or something like that where they are reaching for the things they genuinely like to use on a repeated basis, and see how they do their make up on a daily basis, in other words, I’m interested in reality. I do enjoy a little bit of novelty here and there to see the latest and greatest product or new make up tips and trends and styles, and I love a good tutorial because I love trying everything out and seeing what I like, what I don’t like. But all my goodness I love seeing people talk about multiple ways to use a product, or ways to cut down on time when you’re in a rush like the blush tip from this video, or other really practical tips. I love pulling out pallets that I have, and trying to think of ways to use the colors I never reach for, and playing with it. I love finding ways to use, but I already have a new and fresh way!
Yes, there's a RUclipsr I follow because she is also a pale redhead and I can see if products work on the specific blue-pink skin tone that us eumelanin deficient folks have. Something I love about her is that she's very honest, shares products that are inexpensive and work for followers without the money for high end stuff, and has a number of videos where she will show different makeup looks that can be done with the same product or palette, which shows the diversity and range that a product has
RE makeup collections, I always think of Wayne Goss calling out influencer makeup rooms when that was a huge feature of beauty RUclips. “All you’re looking at is a room full of expired makeup” gave teenage me the reality check that that was not normal. A Korean beauty RUclipsr I love, Ssin-nim, has gotten really open about what a pain it is to manage her inventory since she does so many big, multi-product reviews. I love what she called it: “poverty in abundance” and before that “beautiful trash”.
Beautiful trash 😂 😂 😂 watching beauty youtube /tiktok and seeing the terrible, borderline hoarder accumulation helped me in my journey of remembering NOT to buy things and just let them sit around because of impulse and then be afraid to use it, and not buy things when i can't use them... The kid in me hasn't gotten the memo on stickers yet, but everything else is going well
@Diamondinmyeye idk if I fully agree with that. I have a lot of makeup that I didn't open and I never will just because it's for collecting. Like I have a few palettes that go for a lot of money right now because they don't sell them anymore. I literally do collect some makeup, especially limited editions or vaults. But I also don't think that someone should aquire a lot of makeup with the intent of using it all, if that makes any sense😂
The metallic eye thing is terrifying. When my grandpa was a teenager his eye was shot out accidentally by his brother so eye safety has always been super engrained in my family. Take care of your eyes, people! Once they're messed up they're messed up forever.
That goes for lighting too. We all know the dangers of sunlight but it’s when you work where there’s like 15 fluorescent lights in 1 small office and they contain 2 bulbs each. It’s ridiculous
irresponsible eye stuff makes me SO squeamish, my eyesight isn't brilliant but hey I got contacts so I can SEE and I'm trying to hold on to that. Seeing people putting contacts in their eyes under unsanitary conditions makes me shudder, so this metallic eye thing made me RECOIL.
I worked for an ophthalmology journal for five years. I have nerves of steel now (I went in terrified of anything eye injury related - got over that fast), and can clear a room with a story. And the ONE thing I took away from that job? You can sanitize eyeshadow. You can sanitize anything in pencil/sharpener format-both of those products you can keep for personal use long past "expiration." BUT CHANGE YOUR MASCARA EVERY 3-6 MONTHS OMFG and NEVER EVER share your eye makeup with A N Y O N E.
As someone who's completely lost their eyesight in their left eye due to an incurable, untreatable disease called retinitis pigmentosa, I want to throw a table at every single person who does stupid shit like that for clout. Like Robert and the other make-up artist said, you only have one pair of eyes. The damage you do to them is not worth your five minutes of fame. It makes me absolutely sick, furious and it also makes me cry because I'd do just about anything to get my eyesight back and then there are people like that.
I used be a makeup hoarder. I bought everything that was viral or new. I bought whole collections of themed makeup I was going to use once and then they sat in a drawer until I decided to clear out my stuff. During covid lockdowns I realised how unhealthy this behaviour was and I decided to throw everything away. I stopped watching RUclips makeup gurus as they influenced me so much to the point I was spending money I didn't have. Now I follow a very few that don't try to sell me makeup that I don't need. I have reduced my makeup to one of each thing, so one foundation, one mascara etc. and it feels so much better.
Yes!!!! I’m so sick of everything “going viral” these days. As someone with ADHD and trying to work really hard on my impulse control/spending lol, it gets so overwhelming seeing so many products trending and being advertised everywhere even though I have perfectly good products at home. It’s almost like I forget all of the stuff I have at home bc a new version is constantly being shoved in my face.
What I liked about Complexions by Maya Michelle is that she could have stopped at a couple of points depending on the look she was going for - from light all the way to to full coverage. Nice!
I've never seen a “full insta glam” influencer use such good techniques! Either she’s an actual trained makeup artist or has watched them a lot, she had really good tips. I don’t wear a lot of makeup base makeup, often not at all, but still screen recorded some of the beginning where I would personally stop before layering for a fuller coverage 😄
I have big hollows under my eyes, I’m a MUA too and one of the first things my teachers said was “We use shade and light, we color correct, but we’re not surgeons and we can’t change volumes”. Makeup can’t do what’s not supposed to do. Apart from this, I don’t even want to comment of the crazy stuff because it’s reaching disgusting and very dangerous levels. But I will say how good it is to see Robert smiling while watching a good video with real info and true help for people ❤
The 2nd girl cracked me up with her ''natural'' ''lightweight" look😄 Girl it's a full glam makeup in my book. Gorgeous makeup, and good advice for sure but I giggled at the thought of it being ''natural and lightweight" bc she uses so many layers and products lol
@@stillnotstill ofc I totally understand the concept and why she called it "natutal". In fact she's pretty natural compared to those full glam Insta makeup looks. She's indeed very skilled and the end result is smooth af. She's giving good advice! It just made me smile because my "natural" makeup look is just rubbing some CC cream, a dot of lightweight concealer, brow mascara and a bit of mascara and lip balm. And it's already too much layers and products for me lmao
@@melancolielupine2023 same! That would be my “fancy makeup” for a special occasion. But mostly just because I’m lazy and I live on a remote farm. My chickens aren’t worth that much makeup effort. 😂
Loved the video about consumerism and the makeup world- I found when I was a teenage that the one of the reasons I didn't get into wearing/ doing makeup was because the amount of products creators insisted you needed to "get the look". Like, the creators would use like 15 products/ brands (ex. using 3 pallets in order to make 1 eye look) and I felt that required too much of a "purchase curve" and that I wouldn't be able to do it with a more basic collection. When in reality makeup palettes are often designed to be "enough" and have the colors necessary to make comprehensive looks.
It's actually the freakin downside of makeup palettes once you have a couple. You have to decide if the unique colors in the palette are enough to justify buying when 1/3 to 1/2 the palette are neutral shades you already own.
Kelly Hills, this is why I have only ever bought pallets that had several if not completely different colors that I didn't already have, or little tiny ones that have like three colors that would make one pallet a little more complete for me. I only use make up for "stage" and because of my disability those days are few and far between because it's so much more work for me.
@@SabiLewSounds I like the pretties even if I only wear makeup once a week at the most (also disabled, so I feel ya) so I’m definitely a sucker who has to really stop and think about whether the colors are unique or if I’m drooling over colors I already own, and just want because they’re the colors I gravitate towards. (Like Robert, I have an issue with purples… and greens… and blues… 😂)
honestly to me robert just feels like an older brother/friend that will always be there for you whenever you need advice or have a question to ask, he has a very comforting vibe:(
honestly! since Jenna Marbles left youtube and the blow up of the beauty community, I found myself looking through youtube disconnected and then I found the Welsh twins and it connected me to a lot of smaller youtube accounts that began to make youtube feel homey again. The Welsh twins by far carry so much of this wholesome and purity of youtube that seemingly feels rare now a days.
The only time I am ever okay with seeing someone have a room for makeup are those that actually collect vintage makeup. I’m not talking about “””vintage””” in the sense of makeup from 2010 lol, but like 1910 - people going through garage sales, antique stores, eBay listings, auctions, seeking out lots to get celebrity makeup from decades prior, etc. I’ve seen a few people that do it, and it’s such a treat to see. They’ll have everything put up through detailed organization or on display to admire when in the room. It’s not a massive collection like some of these beauty RUclipsrs have with their PR stuffed in drawers, but enough to show that they’re very serious about their hobby. I can respect it. Some people collect sculptures, paintings, trinkets, vintage clothing, etc. and some collect makeup. Outside of that, no one needs a room full of makeup. It’s wasteful and isn’t actually being enjoyed or admired. It’s just collecting dust and expiring in large hoards to end up in a garbage bin somewhere. 😒
That girl at 9:52 is so spot on. Thankfully I was an adult by the time this whole "influencer" thing began BUT it still kind of affected me, in that I was buying like, way too many lipsticks than I really was going to wear. If anyone wants a little tip on how to combat this, here's what I do: I keep a note in my phone full of pictures of my eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks/glosses so I don't buy repeat colors. As for blushes, I won't buy blush until I run out. You don't need a million blushes. You can have 1 or 2 and be fine, and even if you want to have The Full Blush Experience, you still only need maybe 5 in each basic blush color (red, pink, orange, nude, berry/purple) to have that. You can still have a varied experience with makeup and not own it ALL.
these tiktok dummies trying so hard to go viral just absolutely REEK of desperation. it's beyond pathetic at this point. "people used to get good at something hoping to become famous. now, people wanna be famous without being good at anything." -jim cornette
I believe the second young lady, I believe her name is Michelle, is an excellent teacher. I’m 48, so I don’t wear so much makeup, and I definitely don’t bake. That said, she’s lovely and a natural instructor. I hope she continues to educate and inspire others to enjoy makeup. 🙂
The point about having a make up collection hit so close to home. Same with skin care. I ended up throwing out 20+ products because they were expired. Money down the drain. I've promised myself I won't buy a new product until I've finished what I have. I'm disappointed in myself
I know how you feel, I’ve gotten caught in that same mind warp. It’s especially annoying with skin care, because if you’re constantly shuffling products in and out of your routine you start to lose track of what’s actually working and what isn’t.
I stopped buying full size for nothing. If it's a new face product I look for the trial sizes, make sure it's not the same price as full size, and get that
@@elizabethtangora4353 omg!! Yes! It's skincare for me for sure! I finally had to write down specific routines & tell myself no more face mists until you finish at least 1 that is open; no more this until that is finished etc! 🤭🙈
@@misshell2223 @elizabethtangora4353 something I do that helps is when I go to sephora, I buy those $8 or $10 favorites bags with a bunch of samples, or use my points on mini products, that way I found out what I liked. Then, when I find out what I like, I buy the smallest size possible of the product to see how long it takes me to go through it. That way I can plan for how large I need something instead of having a product expire because I can't go through it.
I love your commentary so much- thanks for being such a trustworthy content creator!! Also, there was a post on Reddit years ago that still haunts me- a woman got craft glitter in her eye, and it got so badly infected that she had to have it removed and get fitted for a glass eye… from GLITTER!! People need to protect their eyeballs!!
This is why I have always loved the influencers who would tell you the huge amount of makeup they would get from companies. They would maybe try a few things but donate a half or more to woman's shelters etc. That's amazing 😁
18:27 Late 70's, late for work, all I had in my bag was my two-toned blush palette, one rosy red, one med. brown. Crescent of red from cheekbone to outer forehead, arc of same color just under eyebrows. Slash of medium brown from cheek hollow to just above ear, arc in eyelid crease and smudge halfway under lower lashes. Smudge. Done. This technique reminds me of that.
Not by makeup but just a minor unfortunate accident my cornea was scratched a few years ago. In the few hours after the accident the pain built and at 2am I called the nurses line. When I tell you they emphatically told be to get to the hospital. I was truly in so much pain the doctors were amazing and helped quickly. I was so LUCKY but all this happened in a small window of hours and was scary! Protect your eye health!!
Aside from the tongue individual and the eye killer, this seemed like a collection of youngsters with a good head on their shoulders. Especially impressed with the lady who used a thin layer of makeup for that flawless look and the lady at the end with the colour correctors. Some actual knowledge being imparted 👌🏻
Recently I watched a series of a makeup influencer here on You Tube decluttering her makeup room. She would throw away a bin of blush but still have 30 or so left. And it rubbed me the wrong way. I know as an influencer you need enough products to test and review…but seeing so many products that will never be used fully or are used once or twice and then thrown away makes me sad. We have such a huge landfill issue and all this barely used makeup just gets added to our already huge problem. There’s gotta be a way to minimize the negative impact all of this fast fashion and fast beauty items has on our environment.
regarding makeup hoarding, one thing i'd like to see more influencers do is practice sterile makeup application for reviews (ie, putting product on a sterile palette and applying from that) and then donating what they reviewed once they're done. obvi it'd be hard with health and safety, but especially for things like pump foundations or powders it'd work really well
Robert, I'm 41 and I miss the days of YT when I could get a good makeup tut. That's how I learned the art of makeup and became a freelance makeup artist. I love your channel because I get that good vibe from you and I know you're not doing this for the views or sponsorships. You also always give good tips and advice. Not to mention that I love makeup and ghost stories from you. Keep coming with great content and I'll keep liking and supporting you!! Love you!!!🥰😉 16:20 is just pathetic and dangerous!!
15:12 I was literally just thinking about this…I have so many eyeshadow palettes that I bought years ago that I will never throw away. Hell, I had an eyeliner I used as a teenager(I used it only for my waterline) up until a few years ago and I’m 33..
Thank you for encouraging the younger group when they put makeup on with a gentle and well thought out style. 💯❤️ I'm always telling my niece, that at 23 she doesn't need a "full beat " to look flawless. It can really age her. You are such a sweetheart 💕
The fast-fashionification of makeup is insane. I used to feel bad that I couldn't afford all the new makeup but I'm so glad that I've just got a few things I really love and a few special items in my collection.
I'll be honest, I had no idea eyeshadow palettes had an expiration date 😬 I knew products like mascara, liner, gloss, concealer and foundation did, but I assumed if you took care of your powder products they'd last a really long time? Thanks for the information!
ELISE! Preach it girl. I have like five highlighters from 2016 and I haven’t even hit pan on the one I use everyday lmao. Why did I think having the makeup collection of an MUA as a 19yo was necessary 😭
I have been a hairstylist and makeup artist for 20 years now. I did my apprenticeship after cosmo school at Toni &Guy as a chemical/ color specialist my first couple years. ( I definitely learned much more past chemical services and do it all now) But color theory is my first love. I am still beyond shock at how many licensed stylists and makeup artists that don't know there basic color wheel! Much less color theory. And you would figure it was just that they were fresh and new out of school....no some had YEARS in the game and didn't know. And there work always reflected there ignorance of continuing to further there education etc
I love the focus on tutorials, because I am SO tired of a thousand videos about the next big product, but nothing about how to get the best out of what you already have.
So happy to see a new video! That's for putting out such great and well thought out content! So many people just pump out garbage but I always know Robert's stuff will be well thought out!
I had once bought the MAC cream color base in the shade Hush. Still use it just on the high points of my face and it gives such a subtle glow from within look. No matter how much tempting a highlighter or a blush might be...it's insanely difficult to hit pan on them.
I LOVE doing that blush trick, swirling it around the whole temple/cheek/eye area even on days I'm not in a rush, I'll just deapen the crease with more blush!
Robert you are BY FAR my favorite RUclipsr 🫶🏻 it’s not even a question about who my favorite makeup artist/influencer/RUclipsr is. I LOVE how rational, genuine, educated, ACTUALLY unproblematic, you’re not here for the drama and mess that goes on in the beauty world. You’re just you and I LOVE THAT. You’re gonna be beauty educator who’s around LONG TERM. Thank you so much for being real and not a trend follower, over dramatic, and constantly in drama 🫶🏻🫶🏻
And thank you for actually talking about makeup!!!! Too many times you come looking for makeup and you just get drama channels. It’s NEVER about JUST makeup. You always give me what I’m looking for. Love and appreciate you 🤍
Oh my god, I was gagging when I saw that dude put foundation on his tongue and watched you do it too, so I started laughing because you were literally doing a more graceful version of my reactions for me LOL
I get it that RUclips is free and the advertisements shouldn't bother me that much. But when three non skipable ads pop up with no damn chance but to fucking endure it, I get a bit aggressive. But either way, love your videos. Continue your content. I don't give abos to just anybody, I really appreciate your honesty and you being just you and not some tacky influencer or some shit.
Robert deserves so many followers. I can’t describe what a breath of fresh air he is. He is so talented, and helpful. He deserves WAY more hype. I think the field is over saturated (with some less than favorable people) and that’s why he’s not as popular. He’s amazing!!!
The girl talking about consumerism is so spot on. I've given up on watching Beauty RUclips anymore as I've gotten older because I know what I like. I love that she pointed out not buying a product if you have something comparable. I haven't bought a new powder since the Rare Beauty one and before I think I had a L'Oreal powder and gave it away. I love the Rare Beauty one, I'm glad I purchased it and I would repurchase it. My all-time favorite powder (if they ever get rid of it, I'll cry) is the Ciate London coconut setting powder though 🤣
love that you're doing this video after the whole loreal thing *cough cough*🤣🤣 I wish more big influencers would have actually called her out instead of just mentionEd it quick and blew it off.
The consumerism part: that is why project pans fascinate me endlessly. Setting the goal of wanting to use something up on purpose really put a stop on my shopping habits
This is what people have done for years because their fav influencers told them they had to have it. I have spent thousands on makeup in the last 6 years If only I had that money now to go on a nice trip. But we live and we learn, hopefully. I have doubts about the kids consuming the content and the handful of shady creators we have today. I miss the 2014 to 2016 Beauty RUclips. Great video Robert. Flawless as usual.
It turns out Tiktok actually doesn't promote popular things but what was clicked by a staff to show often and go viral. This explains a lot about "viral tiktok products".
I agree with you about the modern social media pressure to consume. But I also see it from this perspective: when I am watching a makeup/clothing 'haul' or collection video I know it is something I can indulge in watching without having to buy the items myself or deal with the pile up of stuff in my house if that makes sense? Like I know I can't afford to spend all my money on these products and I don't have the space for it all either so I will watch those kinds of videos to see and share/participate in someone else enjoying those things. Idk if anyone else can relate.
I learned most of my make up tips etc from my MUA friend, she went to an academy in London and now works in TV and film. Quite a nice person to share that with me. Edit: I used mehron metallic powders for my Steam Powered Giraffe cosplay.... That shit needs a full scrub to get off 😨
Videos like these are so important. When I was young, maybe 11, one influencer showed herself using permanent hairdye to colour her eyelashes. Me being young wanted to do the same thing but got it in my eye. She did say in her video, "It might burn, but that's ok" so I just left it for a little while until it hurt way too bad. My eye is still messed up
Oh boy - Elise going on a rant about over-consumption 🤦🏻♀️ I try to give excess that is not expired to my family members and they appreciate it. But I am so guilty of buying too much and having to get rid of pretty new-looking stuff because of expiry ☹️ and it’s not my job so no excuse. I don’t have tiktok but I just love skincare/makeup 😫 Wtf with the one putting makeup in the mouth 🫢🤮🦠
That blush trick at the end would be amazing if using a blush with a kind of highlight shift, taking advantage of light bouncing off the high points of the face creating the shift in the product, giving a natural highlighting effect- I really love that
Influencers should do giveaways for the products they won’t use, with necessary cleanliness steps taken of course. There is no way I’d be able to afford the more expensive luxury brands and knowing they’re just sitting there going out of date is frustrating!
Some contracts don't allow it, plus there are regulations around giveaways etc. I know Kackie and RawBeautyKristi have given unused or sanitized products to women's shelters.
I'm not an influencer, but I am a rep for a brand at a store and both the brand and store gift me so much gratis that I just save it up for friends and family on holidays and birthdays 😂 I sized down my beauty collection a few years ago and don't regret it, now I stick to staples I love and occasionally try something fun if I want to! It's so much easier to maintain and I love knowing that my grandkids could someday say, "This was my grandma's favorite blush, she always had it"
I always love you and your videos but this video was so refreshing in an overly saturated world of viral beauty TikTok. Your opinions are so spot on I can’t even! I wish we had more influencers like you. Also your reaction to that disgusting TikTok with the guy putting the products IN his mouth was ME except I gagged about 4 times and I turned white 😂😩wtaf? LOVE YOU ROBERT ❤

Here i'm listening to vlog as background noise & looking at who/what once in a awhile and I was rewarded w an after thought! I love, love your little"add-ons"! There should be more of that off-the-cuff style in RUclips. Real classy to your channel. And keeps me coming back for more!
I always love your videos, because it’s always the honest truth and makes you take a step back and say, Wow that’s reality. I used to be one who always bought all the trendy makeup but after seeing it all stock up and then never use everything, you think that’s all my money and I don’t even use half of it. So I’ve managed to control myself now and not buy anything unless I need or if it’s Disney lol Disney always gets me😂. Love you 💜
I am not an influencer but I absolutely love makeup. I love the aesthetic of it, I love to use it, and I love all types of it. You could say I collect it just like people collect books, stickers, stamps, coins, anyting that you can possibly collect and show off. Having makeup is no different than any of those other things. I go into my collection daily and I can choose anything that I want out of my stash and make a beautiful look for the day. So I feel that it is not unnecessary and it is totally each person's prerogative is to what they choose to collect and find joy in.
Absolutely. I think the problem is the "influencer" culture leading a person to feel like they must have that huge, always up to date, collection. If a person is making a conscious decision to have a collection because that brings them joy and they don't feel pressured then personally I really support that.
Rob I actually have started a full time RUclips channel because I dislike the short content on TikTok’s because it’s so fake like those mascara lashes 😂🙌
I really liked some of those tips from second girl (Mya?) and she obviously likes a more matte finish which I would never use that much powder - but some is good 🙌🏼
@@therealJamieJoy gorgeous!! I think you’re right about matte - I remember James predicting that maybe a year ago ☺️ I tried a brightening powder by Besame and was surprised at how much I like the mattifying effect under my eyes and on forehead. I still have to keep the cheeks glowy ☺️✨
@@deecal4104 I'm looking forward to matte complexion and satin/soft gloss lips again. My era was the 80s. The makeup was stunning. Not all neon glow and blush up into the temples. There were some truly striking looks that weren't garish and nightmarish.
Ugh, it's so true. The consumerism was so immense. I remember I wanted the Norvina palette, the Limecrime Venus palette (Yeah. I know.) And I have the Violet Voss violets palette. All had similar color stories and the VV one was much more affordable. Color payoff gorgeous.

I watch your content for you. I rarely wear makeup (I work from home in small town midwestern US) but now when I do wear it, I know the theory behind it. I just love your humor, your opinions, and when you and the brothers are together that just makes me laugh out loud.
I've done that sort of monochrome look with blush (or even a yellow, pink or orange eyeshadow) before and I ALWAYS get compliments on it. Usually put a bit more focus than just a swirl, but it really works! On the topic of beauty product hoarding, when I realized I had like four eyeshadow palettes that were mostly the same warm nudes with like 2 or 3 feature shades i knew there was something wrong and started to feel somewhat overwhelmed. Now I have to tackle my addiction to buying the same warm rosy nude lipstick/gloss in every different brand like I'm really doing something different...
Omg!!! I’m so glad i’m not the only one to go through what Elise said. Like i’m a beauty youtube survivor too and i have a big amount of makeup expired (sometime unused) in my closet. I cant dare to calculate how much i spent it’s gonna break my heart moreover it’s embarrassing to realize that i was so gullible to buy all of these. I wish sbdy made this video sooner, it’s crazy that nobody talks about it.
When you do a makeup cleanout and choose what to keep and what to get rid of, please please please vlog it. My favorite beauty videos are makeup cleaning outs.

Something I love about her is that she's very honest, shares products that are inexpensive and work for followers without the money for high end stuff, and has a number of videos where she will show different makeup looks that can be done with the same product or palette, which shows the diversity and range that a product has
I love when Robert starts with an assertive "Listen...." 😂
Especially with the finger point ☝🏼😅
Hahaha me too hahaha
The angel (or devil) on my shoulder is Robert saying Listen 😅
RE makeup collections, I always think of Wayne Goss calling out influencer makeup rooms when that was a huge feature of beauty RUclips. “All you’re looking at is a room full of expired makeup” gave teenage me the reality check that that was not normal. A Korean beauty RUclipsr I love, Ssin-nim, has gotten really open about what a pain it is to manage her inventory since she does so many big, multi-product reviews. I love what she called it: “poverty in abundance” and before that “beautiful trash”.
Yes I agree, Wayne was so spot on there.
Even calling it a collection is harmful. Collections are acquired and kept. Makeup should be fluid in your life.
The kid in me hasn't gotten the memo on stickers yet, but everything else is going well
Wayne Goss was really our savior. I still use his tips from early 2000!
I love when Robert gets excited or happy when he is watching. It's so wholesome!
Me too, whenever he smiles and nods while reacting I know I should be listening closely.
I was thinking the exact same thing 😂 love it ❤
The metallic eye thing is terrifying.
Y'all remember that liquid eyeliner trend where people where putting a glob of it in their eyes to turn them black?
As someone who's completely lost their eyesight in their left eye due to an incurable, untreatable disease called retinitis pigmentosa, I want to throw a table at every single person who does stupid shit like that for clout. Like Robert and the other make-up artist said, you only have one pair of eyes. The damage you do to them is not worth your five minutes of fame. It makes me absolutely sick, furious and it also makes me cry because I'd do just about anything to get my eyesight back and then there are people like that.
lol thank you for not giving that tongue palette the response it didn't deserve. I'm so sad we all had to see that
That was vile 🤮
I agree but that was such a weird way to word that 😂
3:40 this girl has FLAWLESS beautiful skin to start with. The reason she doesn’t need much foundation is because…..she doesn’t need much foundation 😂
Yup. I have acne scars, and so I need a good bit of foundation to make my face look less like a map of the moon.
I have reduced my makeup to one of each thing, so one foundation, one mascara etc. and it feels so much better.
that's fantastic
Same happened to me
The opposite happend to me lol. I started watching makeup gurus during lockdown and bought two hyped pallets. Which I still use, at least.
@@JasminMiettunen she didn't even do her forehead lmao
@@primordialdoll her hair was already done so I expect she did her forehead first, before the video.
I would like to see her do a beat on textured skin for tips on that
I have big hollows under my eyes, I’m a MUA too and one of the first things my teachers said was “We use shade and light, we color correct, but we’re not surgeons and we can’t change volumes”.
Makeup can’t do what’s not supposed to do.
Apart from this, I don’t even want to comment of the crazy stuff because it’s reaching disgusting and very dangerous levels.
But I will say how good it is to see Robert smiling while watching a good video with real info and true help for people ❤
Using blush and bronzer as eye shadow is a 1980's thing. Glad you younger ladies still like it💖
Its what i saw my momma and her mother do as a child. I think it makes everything look so nice and cohesive and natural. One palette to rule them all!
The 2nd girl cracked me up with her ''natural'' ''lightweight" look😄
Girl it's a full glam makeup in my book. Gorgeous makeup, and good advice for sure but I giggled at the thought of it being ''natural and lightweight" bc she uses so many layers and products lol
Have you seen the stuff that is like two or three times that though? That's a where I think the lightweight thing is coming from
@@stillnotstill ofc I totally understand the concept and why she called it "natutal".
When in reality makeup palettes are often designed to be "enough" and have the colors necessary to make comprehensive looks.
same here
It's actually the freakin downside of makeup palettes once you have a couple.
(Like Robert, I have an issue with purples… and greens… and blues… 😂)
honestly to me robert just feels like an older brother/friend that will always be there for you whenever you need advice or have a question to ask, he has a very comforting vibe:(
3:28 I love his smiles while reacting to her video, she did a great job applying that base
ROBERT! How do you still not have 1mil followers?!?!!! You and James are the gems of RUclips! You guys need far more credit than you get 💛
Soon! I keep checking 😊
honestly! since Jenna Marbles left youtube and the blow up of the beauty community, I found myself looking through youtube disconnected and then I found the Welsh twins and it connected me to a lot of smaller youtube accounts that began to make youtube feel homey again. The Welsh twins by far carry so much of this wholesome and purity of youtube that seemingly feels rare now a days.
Like and share his videos to get the word out! If we try, I’m sure we could get him to 1M subs by the end of March!
"people used to get good at something hoping to become famous. now, people wanna be famous without being good at anything."
-jim cornette
Yessss exactly! 🖤🖤
Don't be too harsh on yourself - you're doing better, that's the most important :) Been there, done that!
@@misshell2223
@elizabethtangora4353 something I do that helps is when I go to sephora, I buy those $8 or $10 favorites bags with a bunch of samples, or use my points on mini products, that way I found out what I liked.
I love the way the girl that literally did her whole base while explaining it to us..I think I'll rewatch it and actually apply it to my own routine
Many just do t throw th
Away . If the products are still good they donate the products or give to family and friends
Omg I love her edges too! How cool! I like how she explained stuff even though I don't bake anymore. And I just learned something new from her!
regarding makeup hoarding, one thing i'd like to see more influencers do is practice sterile makeup application for reviews (ie, putting product on a sterile palette and applying from that) and then donating what they reviewed once they're done. obvi it'd be hard with health and safety, but especially for things like pump foundations or powders it'd work really well
Robert, I'm 41 and I miss the days of YT when I could get a good makeup tut.
I just wanted to say thanks!! Just starting my social media presence, I take videos like this one to heart.
Best wishes for your channel!
15:12 I was literally just thinking about this…I have so many eyeshadow palettes that I bought years ago that I will never throw away. Hell, I had an eyeliner I used as a teenager(I used it only for my waterline) up until a few years ago and I’m 33..
You are fabulous, Robert. Your horrified expression when the guy was chucking makeup into his mouth. Made my day 🤣
Thank you for encouraging the younger group when they put makeup on with a gentle and well thought out style. 💯❤️
I'm always telling my niece, that at 23 she doesn't need a "full beat " to look flawless. It can really age her. You are such a sweetheart 💕
The fast-fashionification of makeup is insane. I used to feel bad that I couldn't afford all the new makeup but I'm so glad that I've just got a few things I really love and a few special items in my collection.
Please do more reactions to worst rated MUA. I love your feedback and suggestions. You’re so beautiful and I’m obsessed with your content. So classy!
Loooooved the second girl, though I’m also not a baking fan she did a great job explaining layering and not wasting product!
Why did I think having the makeup collection of an MUA as a 19yo was necessary 😭
the last one was a beautiful draping! wow!! I have been doing this for a while but love that she goes in with a large brush and just sweeps it!!
I love the blush hack. I do very light makeup for work because I wear a mask all day and work long shifts and I will try that one.
Yeah I might try that!
i love doing that blush tip at the end with a blush that's really lightly shimmered. It's so pretty!
Thank you so much 🖤🖤🖤
Those giveaway scams in the comments have been going around for a while but you are the first youtuber I have seen address it directly - thank you!
16:51 Robert's breakdown got me so bad LMAO
What a bad day to have eyes! Poor Robert, that video was disgusting and will haunt my nightmares x.x
The second girl is stunning! Beautiful application
Happy Wednesday with Robert to keep me company whilst I work 🥰

I don't give abos to just anybody, I really appreciate your honesty and you being just you and not some tacky influencer or some shit.
lmfao robert’s reaction to the weird mouth person absolutely destroyed me. that was so gross lol
Robert deserves so many followers. I can’t describe what a breath of fresh air he is. He is so talented, and helpful. He deserves WAY more hype.
I think the field is over saturated (with some less than favorable people) and that’s why he’s not as popular. He’s amazing!!!
I 100% LOVE that you're not about the nonsense. Make THAT go viral, please!
i wish creators understood that viral only lasts a moment. but if you want longevity you need to build an audience that trusts you and your reviews.
These grey eye looks you've been doing lately are 🔥! Would love to see a video showing what goes into this look.
The second girl is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL, holy sh!t. I could watch her apply makeup all day.
The consumerism part: that is why project pans fascinate me endlessly. Setting the goal of wanting to use something up on purpose really put a stop on my shopping habits
The second lady is awesome. I learned a LOT right there! 💜
Robert’s video arriving just in time to make my whole day 🥹😍🥳.
This is what people have done for years because their fav influencers told them they had to have it. I have spent thousands on makeup in the last 6 years
If only I had that money now to go on a nice trip. But we live and we learn, hopefully. I have doubts about the kids consuming the content and the handful of shady creators we have today. I miss the 2014 to 2016 Beauty RUclips. Great video Robert. Flawless as usual.
True
I don’t have tiktok but I just love skincare/makeup 😫
Wtf with the one putting makeup in the mouth 🫢🤮🦠
May I just say that you look so prettyful today? I adore you, your brothers, and amazing crew. Keep it up! 😘
I think Soph used to do this.
LOVE YOU ROBERT ❤
at 14:17 - u'r so (right word?) fun! I broke out into a giggle because of your "add-on" - not because it was funny what u said, More how you came to it.
Yesssss!! Amazing!!
Robert, I love your videos! You are such a gentleman with your critics and not putting people down. You are the number 1 online MUA!
I really liked some of those tips from second girl (Mya?) and she obviously likes a more matte finish which I would never use that much powder - but some is good 🙌🏼
I think matte is coming back -- at least toned down from strobing and glass skin. I like a combination. Isn't she gorgeous, though?
"Think about that when you're buying the new Makeup by Mario foundation. There's gonna be a new one next month."
It's early February and the KVD serum foundation just dropped👁👄👁
The juvias foundation dropped early Jan as well (almost went to buy it when I realized it’s just like the Estée Lauder hydrating foundation I already have- need to learn to skip purchasing especially when it becomes half off by the end of the year!)
It’s SO nice to watch a calm, realistic and honest response to these ridiculous ‘trends’.
Thank you for your work and the advice/tips/explanations you provide 💖💐
I like the vid, although it didn't even started... 😆 Love you 💕!
Thank you! 🥹🖤
@@RobertWelsh Thanks for your comment! 😍 Can you please link me the make-up set to your Ciaté collection? I can't find it on YT anymore, I'm not sure if it makes a difference if I'm buying it via your link. If not, I'll just google it.
I watch your content for you. I rarely wear makeup (I work from home in small town midwestern US) but now when I do wear it, I know the theory behind it. I just love your humor, your opinions, and when you and the brothers are together that just makes me laugh out loud.
"I know she's trying to sell something but can we be honest?" 👀
**immediately think of mikayla**
😂
Happy Wednesday! 🖤 love these reaction videos!
Happy Wednesday!! 🖤🖤🖤
Ngl the guy putting powder in his mouth had me dead 😂😂
When you do a makeup cleanout and choose what to keep and what to get rid of, please please please vlog it. My favorite beauty videos are makeup cleaning outs.
Ugh reminds me of the “trend” of wasting food and making outrageous “recipes” to go viral
