#JoeCalzaghe #RobinReid #CalzagheReid
Robin Reid was a proper sportsman in defeat. Great fight. I thought it was close
How these two never had a rematch is a crime. They had the potential to have a great rivalry like ben and eubank
❤you boo
Joe ducked the rematch like he ducked defending against froch
@greenfields1221 you've totally missed the point I said calzaghe wouldn't rematch Reid which is facts and wouldn't defend against Froch which is facts I never went into careers and common opponents as I'm sure your aware that he beat him so he would beat him obviously wouldn't determine the outcome of any fight unless you're a clueless casual no offence
@greenfields1221 it is what it is it never happened but JC was the type of fighter to stay comfortable the wbo in those days ment very little to the top fighters they all wanted the wba.wbc.ibf belts the wbo champion was never rated like the big 3 and Joe's 1st 18 or so world title fights were all wbo and he stayed most of the time in wales/Britain knowing that none of the top Americans at the times wasn't bothered about the wbo so travelling to Britain to challenge for it wasn't attractive some say he was hiding in Wales if you remember Peter manfreado got a shot at Joe's belt if that was nowadays Peter manfreado would be jake Paul's level but calzaghe fans never mention that so Peter manfreado getting a shot at calzaghes belt was credible? But froch not a credible challenger?
@greenfields1221 I don't mean former world champions on his record,,, I mean he only held the wbo for his 1st 18 or so world title fights and also he only won ring magazine belt at light heavyweight not a wbc wba ibf or even a wbo
Calzaghe is amazing but Reid is massively underrated. Superb bout!!
One of Calzaghe's greatest and most underrated tests... Still deserves so much more adoration for the fight he brought and the fight he forced from Calzaghe.
Who are these infamous underraters ?
They both had class. Not present these days 😢
@@andrewsparr3239 Robin Reid is criminally underrated, especially by current fans of the sport
Calzaghe is right up there with the best fighters of the late 90's to early 2,000's, his totally flawless career record tells you how good Joe was. Unfortunately for him, I don't think he got the recognition he deserves.
He was a top quality boxer and a proper nice bloke as well.
Agreed 👍 Boxing 🥊🥊 Genius.
He lost this fight to Reid though. Not that it matters, Joe went on to be a fantastic boxer, one of the very best.

I think joe was held back a bit , he should have gone to the us earlier in his career, the yanks would have loved him
He has to be the finest boxer the British isles ever had.
2nd to Tyson fury I say
Bull.
Prince Hamed
@Jeff not even close. But a good boxer. Just couldn't do it on the world stage
I totally agree! Not enough credit for him though
wow Reid was superman quick with that return right hand, good tough slugfest
joe went up a level after this
You wouldn't know it looking at the guys he spent the next 7 years fighting.....
@@chriswilliamson7694 You can only fight who'll agree to face you.
I think it helped him ultimately, he had to learn to adapt when he came up against someone capable of actually challenging him, someone who actually belonged in the same ring, which he hadn't had to that point apart from Eubank.
Love Joe, but I think it was a draw- maybe Reid edged it, but opinions are personal.
Great fight.
Yes,I thought same back then..
Probably one of calzaghe's hardest fights Reid looked fit and ripped in this fight if this fight was in this era it would of sold out Wembley or the millennium stadium easy calzaghe always found a way to win in fairness bernard Hopkins cheated in that fight vs Calzaghe he tried every trick in the book to win but joe deserved the win and also Roy jones jr was way past his best in his fight vs Calzaghe he looked a shell of himself Roy who is one of the greatest fighters of all time especially in his prime he was just to good great fighters these were ❤
There should have 100% been a rematch after this fight. Reid was brilliant but Calzaghe won it for me!
Reid landed more punches. Seems absurd Calzaghe ever won this.
This is the worst fight performance Calaghe had I think
but I still feel he won it and it was called as such, a SD.
Ironically, this can be seen as Robin's greatest performance.
That he lost convincingly
@@bampie1 Most of the boxing pundits thought that it was a very close fight.
The fight was a joke Reid should have been disqualified but it just proves how good a champion Joe was to overcome such a dirty fighter.@@musik102
Reid’s a right old pro in there using everything he can to unsettle calzaghe but calzaghe won this one no problem
No problem 😂😂😂
The Ref had the patience of a saint
robin reid and bernard hopkins were the only men ever to get a split decision against joe
Both were robbed!
@@steveallen1635 tbf i am joes biggest proponent but i genuinely think Robin won -
Ref was way too lenient on Reid he should've penalized him earlier and continued to do so the more he used dirty tactics. Reid did that because of his frustration due to Joes speed mostly, plus Joe outwitted Reid over all and that caused him to have control of the fight. in spite of all that Reid dug down deep and turned it into a slug fest and picked up the pace and it become a brawl and the fans got what they wanted a great fight.
This fight and the Hopkins fight brought out the best in Joe
And Jeff lacy
That was a great fight. I think many of Calzaghe's punches do more damage than they look like they're doing; Reid's face was evidence of that. Reid hits hard, but Calzaghe could take whatever was thrown at him.
I agree. The announcers kept talking about Calzaghe's punches hitting gloves, but I saw a lot of them getting through. They always pointed out when Reid landed a big one, but always seemed to miss it when Joe got one in. Looking at Reid's face, you can't deny Joe did some damage over the course of the fight.
What a great fight
In round 3 Calzaghe is like "Once I pop I can't stop"
The crowd were mostly Robins. They 'ooed and aaed' when he landed the rights, but were mainly silent when Calzaghe had success. All said and done. - a great tussle between two great Brits.
RR great fighter 💯
I enjoyed reffing this fight.
hi is that you in the ring with them.
Reid is a dirty fighter , in the clinches he tries to put pressure on Joe's joints.
Joe just edged it for high work rate and busier boxer
The best fighter ever to grace a ring is Salvador Sanchez. Had the best engine of anyone, fought at same pace in round 15 than he did in round one, never was shook, granite chin, superb moving forward as he was going backwards, sublime footwork, could bang with both hands, would slip punches at ease, had every shot in the book, had the same compure for every minute of every round, never once flustered, amazing hand speed, awesome jab, no fighter ever has come close to him and bare in mind he was just 21 when he died, boxers are in their prime come age 27. Toney one of best ever who neglected the gym and his weight said sanchez is the best as did Roy Jones, no more needed to be said.
There was clearly an issue with the judging of this fight! A rematch should have been organised as a matter of urgency!
I couldn't give it to Reid, he didn't win enough rounds though I would give him a bare minimum of three. There were probably a couple of drawn rounds but Calzaghe was a decisive winner of more than Reid who went to sleep a bit in the sixth and seventh immediately after having a strong fifth. When I say went to sleep, Reid barely threw a punch in those rounds.
Great sportsmanship… at the end , both hanging out made this fight …greater!!!
Ridiculousness. 😢Hope the people involved are safe. ❤
Reid fought remarkably well in this particular bout. I think a draw was the correct or at least a fairer outcome.
The state of the comments in here saying “thought Reid won”. Whatever you think he “won” at, it certainly wasn’t boxing.
He lost
Robin looks like old school 50 s boxer ,black and white pictures n that 😂
Joe's workrate was phenomenal, something he maintained throughout his career.
I thought Robin Reid just won it.
Reid was the better amateur of the two. Calzaghe may have been 3 time aba champ but Olympic bronze trumps that achievement
Great fight
Good fight
Joe THE TERMINATOR Calzaghe
commentators watching something else as usual
Yesssss
I love this boxer Joe . He was amazing to watch and a class act ! Yes, I would have wanted to see him beat Reid in a rematch.. REID WAS A DIRTY FIGHTER. He deserved a severe ass whooping by Joe Calzaghe. I hated that Joe gave Robin too much respect during and after the fight. Reid hit Calzaghe with a vicious sneaky punch, a low blow to the groin, many rapid punches to the kidneys and hitting before & after the breaks. Reid should have been penalized on these numerous accounts. Reid knew what he was doing! He didn't deserve a rematch with Joe. I wish Joe would have shown Reid that he was pissed about being dirty and disrespectful. If I was in Joe's shoes, I would have told Reid to consider himself lucky because the time we meet maybe fatal !😮
Robin Reid “I agree...he won the fight”. Agreed.
2 great fighters . but how the hell can 2 referees have 116 /111 to joe and the other one has 116/111 to robin .
Surprisingly Reid should have got the decision.
Calzaghe couldn't hurt Ried......
And they think joe would beat a peak Roy jones
Calzaghes only 2 or 3 years younger ya know? They were both at the end of their careers when joe schooled him
Great fight. Calzaghe by three points.
Couldn't hear the commentary. Too much crowd noise.
If Ried had a glove on his HEAD. he still would have Lost
how can the judging be so far out, joe won hands down but fair play reid made a fight of it, split not a chance
How are these 2 in the same weight class lol Reid looks like a cruiserweight
Good on robin reid another man that dodged nobody ,pride of the north 🏴
Where is the score board?
Never seen a Box grab somebody's leg
If Reid wasn’t being such a dirty fighter. He might’ve nicked it .
Are any southpaws right handed writers ? I ask because many lefty snooker players use the rest in the same manner as a right handed person, i.e., holding the cue in their right hand, and I've often wondered if any of them also hold a pen that way.
Strange fighter cannot argue with a zero defeat record but to me he slaps more than punches but his ko record is great too strange auld fighter must slap like big daddy
He used to hit harder earlier in his career but had to change his style due to problems with his hands.
Lovely rough fight
Great fight...but then most of Joe's are...I had it close.
No homie it wasn't close I took points cause Reid was hitting on the break
Beside that he didn't land to much
@@sherrillraymond7595 bullshit!
Robin Reed should be a street fighter dirtiest I’ve seen
I know dirtier, just from the gym he trained at. 😁
This Robin Reid would have been much harder for Carl Froch. Joe handled over hand rights before, but Robin had good success with them tonight. Still, Joe easily won.
Good old taffy respect from London
Back of the head hitter Joe!
Yes Reid deserved a rematch I think a little blot on Joe that he did not give him one.
Should really have run it back and fought again.
What a dirty fighter Reid was, arm twist, leg lift, punching on the break, head butts, low blows, typical scouser I suppose. lol
Umm, since when were Scouse boxers renowned for cheating tactics you mentioned? Secondly, Reid is from Runcorn - not Liverpool.
Forgot how good a fight this was. Also, how dirty Rob was in the clinch, although he did train at Lightbowne Rd gym. Only joking, before I get hunted down by the Hughes family.
At best, this one should have been a draw. Neither of them
really shone.
Isnt robin reid the guy who got battered into retirement by jeff lacy just a few months before joe fought him ?
So let's just take a minute here.......Reid landed more punches- check. Reid landed more power punches- check. Reid had the higher punch landing %- check. Calzaghe threw more punches that didn't connect- check. Reid finished the fight the stronger and better man- check. And yet somehow Calzaghe won this fight? It stinks and you all know it. There was only 1 winner here and the people who were there to witness it happen, knew exactly who that was as their boo-ing at the result tells you. Yet another decision which puts people off boxing as a sport!!!
Careful man, you're talking sense...
@@diggywiggy6213
no he's not.
Punch stats are meaningless.
This isn't amateur boxing.
You don't score professional fights by counting punches.
I sometimes think CompuBox is the worst thing that ever happened to boxing.
It's made clueless people even more clueless.
Wuuuu
Here in 2021....still waiting for this rematch 🤣🤣🤣
You never know 😂🤙🏽
not Joes best fight, he just scraped the win and it was boring at times
He lost.
Calzaghe knew he was beaten
When Reid hit Joe with the nutts shot, why did the Referee then stop them by holding them both close while he had his arms draped around both of their shoulders/neck? ....
Holding them within millimeters of each other face on, while Calzaghe wanted to just pull away in pain, bit stupid really & Robin was dirty all the way through the fight that his style okay, but the ref should of really got a hold of it & told him off alot earlier, he had a point taken way too late he'd already been fouling Calzaghe loads u never see him complaining though apart from the nut shot even then he just moaned in pain....The referee was a bit crap really!
Enzo does not get the credit he deserves for the training of Joe Joe was a machine
Joe kalah sdh tdk berdaya, agak takut tunduk trus,
Great fight. Deserved a draw....
Robin Reid dirty fighter
Joe wasn't at his best
Reid was robbed, as a nation we remember calzaghe as one of our very best but he lost this fight
Robin got robbed here. Proof calzage didn't want the rematch
Reid was a good fighter when he had his head screwed on
Lol
Dude looks like a computer game character
one of theses fighters might be on Steroids.can you guess which?
Reid was just a swing and hold boxer, never much of a prospect.
So fuckin desicion!!!!! Very dissapointng how stupid judges!!!this figth was cooked....
What a farce
Reid dirty fighter
That was horrible clenching all the whole fight joe was not even close to his best in this fight I thought it was a terrible performance by him he would have normally wiped the floor w that guy eubank was a better fighter than he is Chris would have wiped the floor w Reid that was awful
Petinju tinggi terlalu tunduk kena bom trus
This was joes first world level fight, not surprised he ducked a rematch, he arguably lost this. Dont blame him no hard feeling waiting 5 years to face someone world level again.
He went on to fight at least three world champions over the next five years in Woodhall, Mitchell and Brewer. All of those fighters are at a level just as high as Reid ever was. You my friend, are on crack. Edit - not to mention the fact that you’ve ignored his win over Eubank, who was also a world champion. You are just trolling.
@@georgemorley1029 they were all retiring, it would require crack to believe that retirees are world champions. Eubank came from two divisions away at 2 weeks notice when he was finished. Theres a pattern there if you hadnt noticed. Brewer was not a bad win though. A better choice would be right here - Robin Reid for your cause, he was world class...although the fight can be argued for a reid win easily too.
@@georgemorley1029 as to my argument though, lacy was defintely the first recognised world title fight Joe had, this is undisputable, unless you are on crack. The WBO were becoming recognised in 2004.
@Murray David no argument offered ok

Reid won that fight.
You saw a different fight.
is that ref TRUMP with no make up
@46:10 Reid was about to go
Didn't Robin Reid end up as a porn star ?
😅😂😮
Reid should have got the decision here.
How can judges get it so wrong.
They didn't.
Check out ggg vs alvarez to see when they get it wrong with a close fight.
Check out Reid vs ottke where they get it wrong in a fight that wasn't even remotely close.
I'm sorry. Reid won this fight. Its was like watching pitter patter butterfly punches vs power slugging.
Those pitter patter punches pack a whollop. Ask Lacy and Jones. Boxing the sport is and Calzaghe was a master. He clearly outboxed Reid here
Perhaps it was the ref that made Reids face look a little mashed, just saying.
