Reid won this fight for me. Many of Joe's punches landed on the gloves. Reid landed the more solid and damaging punches. This reminds me of the Castillo vs Floyd Mayweather 1 fight. Joe lost this fight. He took punishing right hands to the Jaw. I give him that, his jaw is like iron. Reid boxed incredible. I remember watching this live decades ago
Bad sportsmanship and arrogance from Calzaghe here. Totally disrespecting Reid by saying that he'd had a lay off and injuries and that his own form was terrible. Bottom line is he lost the fight and got a very strange decision. Imo Robin Reid won this fight!!!
So let's just take a minute here.......Reid landed more punches- check. Reid landed more power punches- check. Reid had the higher punch landing %- check. Calzaghe threw more punches that didn't connect- check. Reid finished the fight the stronger and better man- check. And yet somehow Calzaghe won this fight? It stinks and you all know it. There was only 1 winner here and the people who were there to witness it happen, knew exactly who that was as their boo-ing at the result tells you. Yet another decision which puts people off boxing as a sport!!!
Blocks, combinations, and counters are worth points too. Reid got some good single punches. But they judge it by rounds won and I believe tie goes to the champion a lot of the time anyway. But boxing does seem rigged sometimes for sure. So.
RIP a great trainer in Brian Hughes. Also RIP Enzo Calzaghe another great trainer. You won this Robin. Fought Calzaghe and Roy Francis in this fight. Roy had a stinker.
Finished watching the fight. Came back to this page to up the view count and click like. Best contest with Calzaghe so far. Really enjoyed it. Many impressive rounds from Reid. Thanks for competing Doodson!
Reid won this fight I don't care what they say and if he had had of been exploding in the beginning of the fight like he was in the middle he would have had a clear victory no questions asked
Daylight robbery. That’s why I’ve never really rated Calzaghe. I think it’d have been better to be honest and let them rematch . Then if Calzaghe wins that then fair play to him. To me he lost this one. To me he lost to Hopkins and Jones as well. Ref was biased asf in this fight.
Luckily those that know far more about boxing than you recognised Calzaghe as one of the greatest boxers of his generation and that's why he's in the Hall of Fame. How many British boxers go to America and get a decision against a home boxer not many but Calzaghe did it twice. As for this fight Calzaghe went into it carrying an injury and he broke his hand in the fifth and he still gave Reid a boxing lesson. All Reid had to offer was cheap shots and hitting on the break. Other referees might have reacted to his cheating in a different way. Poor performance for an ex-world champion I think Reid must have coached Froch because Calzaghe got into both their heads and he didn't need to fight the one.
@Sub Zero Agree that a younger Jones and Hopkins would have beaten Calzaghe but how many times has an overseas boxer gone to the US and lost fights that they should have won but for bent judging. At one point it was a standing joke that the only way to win in the US was to knock the guy out and even then the result was fifty fifty. Calzaghe won that fair and square and it was funny to watch one of the dirtiest boxers out there bitching to the referee trying to get Calzaghe disqualified.
@Sub Zero Hopkins was one of the hardest fighters of his generation but after the knockdown he offered very little just tried to spoil Calzaghe's work. But look at the stats Calzaghe landed more punches than Hopkins and that's what wins fights.
Warren offered Reid the rematch. He wouldn't take it as the purse was only 29 grand more than he got for this fight. Calzaghe didn't spar for this fight, plus the two before due to injuries. He broke his hand in the 5th. Realistically he would've beaten Reid comfortably in a rematch if not injured.
@@Clymax01 Reid said it himself that he didn't want to take it as the money wasn't good enough. Calzaghe's injury troubles are well documented. Look at their careers as a whole, it's obvious Calzaghe was a better fighter. Reid was very good on his day, but Calzaghe was great.
The ref kept warning Reid, but never eyeballed Calzaghe. Calzaghe hit Reid in the back of the head, the ref said nothing. Reid banged Calzaghe one in the back of the head and of course the ref admonished him. Meanwhile these commentators are clearly rooting for Calzaghe. It's ridiculous.
I think it was the other way around Reid should have lost points for rabbit punching, punching on the break, illegal use of the shoulder and the head. Also when you consider Calzaghe broke his hand in the fifth Reid well beaten by a boxer with something Reid never had. Genuine boxing skills.
Seen this fight many times at worse a draw so marginal one way or other calzaghe quick hand speed but reid harder connecting punches..Definitely calzaghes toughest opponent..
One thing this fight tells me is that Carl Froch would have just walked Calzaghe down and knocked him out. I don’t even rate Froch. Both fighters are domestic. A prime Roy Jones or Eubank are different league
@@megadave1197 Absolute bollocks... Unless of course you can give us an example of when Calzaghe looked in trouble during his career? Well, thats true, more power short from Reid but His face got serious cut or injured, you can see blood coming out on Reid face even after the fight as a result of multiple punches from Calzaghe.
Reid fought dirty from the off and was penalised. Joe won the 1st 5 rounds, and then they shared the remaining rounds. Joe won but not by the judge's margins. I'd say Joe by 2 rounds plus the point deduction. (So 3)
Joe was extremely lucky. Always amazed by how far his ridiculous cat paw slapping technique took him. Looks like a miner who's weekend hobby is boxing.

Robin Reid was a fine fighter, he's been kinda forgotten in recent years which is a shame.

Hardest fight of calzaghes career, robo Reid in my opinion won this , robins walk to the ring was epic , great fighter great man robin
I'm a Calzaghe fan and Reid won this
Nah lol did he fuck
once you realise how many of calzaghe's punches land on the gloves its difficult to give him this fight
Reid was outclassed and it showed in the amount of cheap and illegal shots he threw
Is that why reids face was being held together by a towel at the end while calzaghe looked fresh as a daisy :)
I sparred with Ried in the gym. On TV he seemd slow, in real life you didn't see em coming

It was a close fight but Calzaghe won. The Judges saw it that way and so did I!
I gotta watch the other video of this fight. Sad to say a lot of audio issues, but gotta say, I'm looking forward to watching this fight.
