Id say starting with this fight, 1981-1983, was Marvin at his absolute peak. His jab, punch selection, pin point accuracy and movement were nothing short of marvelous.
Pinpoint on
ALL of what you said is why Ray Leonard was scared of fighting him.
Totally agree. After that he relied more on his experience and toughness to beat fighters like Hearns and Mugabi, even Roldan in '84. This performance is peak Hagler at the top of his ability.
@@potentially__9445 True that. Ray waited until Hagler showed slippage after going through wars against Hearns & Mugabi - before agreeing to make the fight.
@@kufujitsu Similar to Mayweather and Pacquiao. Mayweather waited.
He fought EVERYBODY at their primes, never ducked nobody, never run away in a fight and most of the fighters he fought never looked the same again. Just superior athlete, superior will:
Have a nice trip champ, you were truly great.
He's no Mayweather...that's for sure!
@@karendavies82 You are either a troll or the most accurate 'Karen' I've ever read.
@@karendavies82 You weird asl
Hagler cleaned out the middleweight division before he even was champion he beat everyone else so Vito antufermo had to fight him, Hagler was a true competitor who didn’t care about the risk he wanted to prove he was the best in the world and he sure proved he was the best middleweight in the world.
@@s.1173 He's honest. Mayweather was more concerned about protecting his record than fighting the best AT THEIR BEST!
This was a masterful and clinical display from the Marvelous one.
Hats off to Hamsho, he was one tough SOB.
Tough enough to take that beating twice
Rumour has it Hagler trained with Pai Mei for this fight his full camp was focused on perfecting the five point palm exploding heart technique.
@@donaldking977 I am here to tell you that the rumor is very wrong and a big pile of bullshit, man. Truth of the matter is that it was Hagler who taught Pai Mei the five point palm exploding heart technique. I'm amazed at just how often I have to correct this "rumor" here on RUclips
Hamsho was a tough fighter. you had to be pretty good to beat him. Hagler did that here.
@@mariosanchez8236 I heard Pai Mai cried like a little girl when Hagler used his chin to block the Five Point technique. And then cried again when he learned Hagler had less mercy in combat than Pai Mai himself.
This was Hagler at his best, probably the best middleweight of all time and definitely one of the most complete fighters in history.
Mustapha Hamsho was one gutsy fighter. He wasn't going anywhere. No quit in him. As for Marvelous Marvin Hagler, well....
Truth!
The JAB took him out . They are ridding out elderly and sterilizing our youth
Thankfully his corner jumped in, they weren't going to let him get killed out there.
Marvin Hagler was in my opinion simply the BEST to do it.
He was the complete package 📦. A Dedicated, focused, integrity, prideful champion who truly relished being champion.
He could do it all in his prime.
Box, counter punch, move well laterally, defend, switch hit seamlessly from righty to lefty, cast iron chin, Beautiful BALANCE, QUICK punishing combinations, extremely ACCURATE And had excellent stamina and endurance. NEVER knocked down. Avenged his few losses with emphatic victories. The only exception being the debated decision loss to Leonard. By then he had enough of the boxing politics and left on his own terms. He could maintain an uptempo pace that forced other guys to sort of struggle to keep up with him. He was equally effective going backwards or coming forward.
Marvin ducked NOBODY. He fought the cream of the crop of thd division. Guys that could be champions today especially in this watered down bogus era where even C level Fighters can grab a title belt.
Hagler was always in shape unlike Ali, James Tony and Duran who were known to get sloppy and blow up in between fights.
He didn't avoid dangerous rivals ( went to Philly and DEMANDED His team get him against the most vicious and prolific middleweights of that era) unlike Ray Robinson who avoided the highly vaunted Black Murderers Row. He didn't marinate fights and wait for a dangerous rival to age( BOXING wise) and lose a step like Mayweather did with Manny Pacquiao. No fancy negotiations to get several edges over his opponent or demanding a certain referee. He didn't voluntarily give up his title to avoid a dangerous mandatory like Canelo Alvarez did when a younger more close to his prime Golovkin was the mandatory. Or make excuses like Deontay Wilder when he lost. Like a MAN and Dedicated Warrior he came back and destroyed his rival to even the score. Hagler was truly in a class all his own.
The very definition of a championship fighter and a man of integrity and pride.
great body puncher
He was dropped once. Juan Roldan, I believe.
Well stated.
Ali was never one to blow up between fights. Utter nonsense. WHEN HE LOST 4 YEARS OF HIS CAREER, and was sufferings from Parkinson's it was harder to make weight and get into shape. Literal BS.
@@acetofresh1 yeah I was gonna say, Ali never got into bad shape until he was in his late 30s and began showing signs of Parkinson’s
I bumped into Mr . Hagler at the Brockton YMCA during his prime. Tell you what.... he was a really good dude.
RIP SIR, you did us proud in Brockton..!
I watched Marin work out once in Seattle in the early 70's. He was all business and bad.
Mustafa Hamsho was a tough fighter, but yeah, in the end, Hagler won this one. RIP Marvin. you died too young (i'm the same age ,66 years old here).
Damn. Hamsho was a very strong man. This was a great perfomance
Still lost to the MARVELOUS ONE!
Simply outclassed here from the Opening bell. Hagler was an exquisite boxer/puncher. In and out, both hands, always on angles, terrific chin, out of this world stamina and determination. An AllTime Top 10 Pound for Pound Boxer. Could've fought in 1890 and in 2021.
Workrate of gods. DESTRUCTION DESTROY
@@bleakcandour he had the will and stamina to fight for 30+ Rounds like the real old fighters did.
RIP Hagler. Incredible show of heart by Mustafa!
***R.I.P. Marvin Hagler.***Prayers To Marvin and His Family...👊🏻☘️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻♥️♥️♥️💯💯💯
Thank you we still miss him
Man Hagler was the greatest. You can clearly see the determination and dedication that he has and Hamsho is a rough dude to deal with.
I just wish that Hagler fought a little bit longer to fight Roy Jones or Benard Hopkins.
@@richardespinoza6243 nah hagler was too old by the time they came along, they would have beat him.
I watched Hagler when I was a little boy and actually rooted against him every single time He fought(I think it was that his bald head mad him look like a mean dude. Not many guys rocked a bald head back then)
But now that I'm an adult and watch his fights. His boxing skills are astonishing. He had all the tools and techniques. He makes 95% of the professional boxers today look like amateurs. Look at how he uses his jab as an offensive weapon and defensive weapon. His jab came at all angles and he quick turned the same jab into a hook to the body. Look how close he can stand close to a guy and, slip and muffle shots. Look how when his opponent tries to get busy with his hands and Hagler ties his arms up quickly. Honestly the closest guy during this era who can close to him is Andre Ward. Both guys took guys hearts and desire to fight away in late rounds. I'm from Philly. Love Benard Hopkins, but he didn't have as many skills and tricks as Hagler.
@bleed for muscle ...LOL....not a chance.
what do you say to this fight on youtube search for " Graciano Rocchigiani vs Mustafa Hamsho" short and clean, Hagler was not fast enough to do that.
Fitting name for a Marvellous fighter. Hagler really was one of greatest to ever do it
Hamsho what a warrior Hagler as usual simply Marvellous

My favourite all time fighter legends never die RIP King of kings

Monzón was the best.

love these old classic fights, thanks for keeping it alive.
Marvin Hagler ,truly a great champion, good punch ,great chin ,good movement, fitness and relentlessly came forward throwing punches .RIP Marvelous Marvin.
I'm from Brockton..Marvin looked great in this fight..U can't hurt this man..This game me chills..Miss u champ u were a warrior..
Can u imagine Hagler against today's middleweights, he'd be done for murder. The man was a beast in the ring & a pure gentleman outside ,he truely was the real deal when it came to boxing.
Yea he would have been arrested for manslaughter for sure LOL !!!!!!
RIP Legend
Canelo next year???
Hamsho was a good fighter and gave a good account of himself early on. As soon as that eye bled, Marvin started busting him up.
Mustafa Hamsho is one of the coolest names in boxing.... Haglar is one of the toughest.
That's not to say that Hamsho wasn't tough.
TRUE.
Best middle weight ever RIP CHAMP
Hagler was one of the greatest, but you guys are forgetting about Sugar Ray Robinson.
@@landrewilkinson2919 in my opinion hagler was the best ever
@@Boxingdiehard You get no argument from me.He definitely was the toughest.✊

Never been knockdown/out
Granite for a chin always in immaculate shape, Marvelous is the best Middleweight and Southpaw in the history of boxing

Simply the best RIP King Marvelous Marvin Hagler 🥊🥊
Greatest middleweight in boxing history. What an honor it is to watch these fights again.
The greatest mw ever is Harry Greb, but the best mw ever and imo the best p4p boxer ever is prime Hagler
@@jg6698 what about sugar ray Robinson?
The good news for Hamsho is that he can really take a punch. The bad news is that Marvelous Marvin Hagler is intent on repeatedly proving that fact.
Exactly. Well stated.
Ray Leonard wanted nothing to do with this Marvin Hagler. RIP Marvelous🙏
yup Ray was smart to fight him at the end of his career
@@hawkercaine and even then Hagler won. He got robbed.

Nothing but respect for both these MEN as with any MAN willing to stand amano amano
Hamso really a brave fighter. Unbelievable heart.
Fantastic!! Greatest middle weight ever!!! He deserve star Hollywood hall fame. Highest respect. Rip
Marvin was just so skillful & menacing. A no nonsense fighter.
It's a marvelous victory for Marvin Hagler. His performance still shows he is still the champion.thank you for sharing us this video.
HAMSHO did not look totally ready to call it quits in the End but when I watched the replay in slow-motion, I see why the REF Called the fight to a halt. HAGLER had hit HAMSHO with 21 Un-Answered shots. Hamsho could have gotten seriously hurt had the ref NOT done his job. GREAT FIGHT.... worth watching again. HAGLER'S Footwork was also nice. He almost NEVER Squared up. Always approached HAMSHO at an angle; even when he clearly had the upper hand. That takes a lot of discipline. He never under-estimated Hamsho. Stuck to the game-plan and made it work. GREAT JOB!. Excellent fight on Both ends. 🥊🥊🥊
My favorite boxer. A good father, husband, a good man all around and just a holy terror in the ring. Nobody ever did it better than Marvelous Marvin Hagler. Bigtime cudos to Hamsho, who showed everyone that he was probably the second best at the time. What heart!
It's incredible how strong Marvin was so late in the fight . I think his round 10-11 punches were harder than round 1-2 .
Lol 😆.. right 👍
Hagler was an amazing fighter. He was built to box and it showed. Also hats off to Hamsho for taking all that punishment and staying on his feet the whole time.
RIP 👑
The chin on Hamsho though!! What a tough SOB.
I never seen a boxer take as much punishment as hamsho did on that night. Wow 😲
Hamsho annoyed the hell out of Marvin...got cut up and beat up for it. R. I. P champ. My grandparents met him at CES and he gave them an autograph for one of my uncles as well as spoke with them for a bit. My grandmother hated boding but always liked him. Always wished I could have met him to bring that up. Wish I knew what happened to the autograph, I'm the big boxing fan in my family
What a big beating. He finished when he wanted. Big marvellous
MH would annihilate today's middleweights.
The combinations in the last round was simply marvelous!!!!!
Marvelous Marvin Hagler has got to be the best middleweight EVER! He wasn't called out when he was the champion, HE CALLED CHAMPIONS INTO THE RING!
Leonard was right except for one thing. Hamsho didn't have the tools to deal with Hagler but he did have the chin. Hamsho had a Randall Tex Cobb chin. Nuff said.
Hagler was really versatile as a fighter. In this fight he is up on his toes and boxing and dancing around the ring. He is really playing with Hamsho. This should have been stopped in round four.
He makes it all look so easy. His footwork and movement is just fantastic to watch. I thought he had slipped a bit by the time he fought Leonard. Haglers fight with Mugabe wasn't the kind of fight you should have when your 30 and had 60 odd fights. I'm sure it took something out of him.
naw. Hamsho had a lot more past round 4.
@@georgegreig8054 well the fight with mugabi showed Hagler was slowing down a bit, he wasn’t nearly as aggressive and he was far from the whirling dervish that went and absolutely destroyed Thomas Hearns. He was a well fed beast, But he dug deep and warred with Mugabi, a guy who in his prime he could have disposed of in 8 rounds, Leonard saw that and knew he could take advantage and beat Hagler which he did
@@SonofHsu16 Yep.agreed.
Marvin demoledor, maravilloso, espectacular
El peso mediano Más completo de la historia del box tenía todas las cualidades para ser lo que fue una super estrella imbatible, grande entre los grandes la Marvelous la Maravilla.EDP
Hamsho was a regular on NBC when they actually showed good fights on regular television. Some folks here will remember another middleweight named Frank The Animal Fletcher. He had the same style as Hamsho.
This fight has gone abit under the radar. I consider this one of Haglers finest performances. He was at the peak of his powers here. Everything he was doing was flowing so perfectly. He looked unbeatable that night.
These were the best years of boxing. Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, Duran better than watching the heavyweights. Every fight was brilliant.
True
What a tough SOB Hamsho was Outstanding fight.
Marvellous Marvin...wow what an awesome fighter...
RIP Marvin! Great switch-boxer.
Even the nobodies in this era were hard as nails...Str8 Brawl this.!!
Hamsho wasn't a nobody. He was a legitimate contender who had the misfortune of being there at the same time as the best Middleweight Champion of that era.
@Anton well I challenge you to ask the average joe if they remember him and you will get back who..? Your talking gibberish fella 😂😂
@@Roscoe.P.Coldchain
That's because you're a casual who doesn't have knowledge of boxing or it's history especially the Middleweight division in the 70's and 80's.

Death is one tough apponent.e, no matter how tough you are it has the last laugh...rip Marvin..
My (new) all-time favorite. Rest well Marvin 🙏🏾🥊. And what a tough guy Hamsho was, took all that punishment and kept moving forward.
When you fought Hagler you had to be ready to go all 3 minutes of every round. No let up in Hagler. Hamsho one tuff dude though.
i had to laugh when Leonard said in the first round, "Hamsho isn't used to fighting this type of fighter...."
who could possibly be used to that? there was only one Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
after the stoppage, leonard gave props, saying Hagler is wihtout a doubt the greatest middleweight in the world. what he left out was "i'm going to wait until he passes his prime to fight him and i know the judges will give me the fight as long as i dont get knocked out.
the beginning when the announcers were talking about the 10 point scoring system, they brought up several great points. i have never understood the system, where no matter how much one fighter dominates a round, unless there is a knockdown, the round is scored 10-9. that makes no sense.
RIP LEGEND 🙏🥊🔥🥊🔥
Hamsho was a very good fighter. Technically very sound
Shows just how good Marvin really was
What a fight!
Ida paid money to see hamsho mix it up with Duran, hearns and antuofermo! He was very underrated IMHO. Hagler was absolutely marvelous
Marvin has so much patience. Greatest champ.
RIP champ....😪

Marvelous!
Hamsho style was perfect for Marvin and made him look marvelous!
Hagler has to be one of the most accurate puncher of all time. Hearns fight he was unbelievable. Connected with jumping jabs and punches.
Thanks

LuvCla$$icBoxingFights🤘🏽🕶️🤘🏽 MARVELOUS 👑💪🏽💪🏽
Although he's been calling fights for 4 decades, I'm not a big fan of Barry Tompkins. He usually calls a figh,t where you're hoping the challenger makes a decent effort, very lopsided in favor of whoever is the champion. Here, Hamsho was giving signs in the first 2 rounds this wasn't going to be an easy fight for Marvin but Tompkins called it like victory was just a couple of punches away for the champ. It wasn't until Mustafa hung around and landed some big punches on MMM that he started calling the fight like it was competitive. I'm actually a big fan of Jim Lampley. Yes I know he has earned a lot of criticism but I think there are few men who call the sport who are as passionate for it and who understand the significance of it more than he does. He always calls a fight with great respect and genuine emotion.
Every fight I watch from Hagler makes me a bigger fan. What a badass dude!
Best boxer ever.
We love you, Marvelous.
Marvin ❤️ The Best 🥊🇵🇱
What. a fight ,,,, it was a war!
Technique, puissance, beauté sur le ring , marvelous était le plus grand poid moyen de son époque, parmis les plus grands de tous les temps
One of the best to do it
Marv not as muscled up here as opposed to later in career but the footwork-jab much better. Timing sharper more agile as well. Tough fight vs fellow southpaw, Hamsho fits the mold of the southpaw power puncher/super physically strong fighter. Impressive how Marvin handled and fended off strong 2 fisted attacks, especially in 6th. Took some heat
MARVIN PUT ON A BOXING CLINIC THAT NIGHT OMG!! BRUTAL WHIPPING ON Mustapha
Corey Roberts, marvelous Marvin hagler, was the greatest middleweight champion, of all-times!!!rest in peace!!
Hamsho knew trying his usual mauling dirty tactics wouldn't work against Hagler. This was arguably the best boxing performance of his career.
Marvelous Marvin Hagler was the epitome of a champion.
One of the toughest in boxing history.
The pressure that Hagler applies on his opponents. You dont see it hardly anymore in fighers these days.Different breed in that era and especially before it.
Hagler, just a Classic smooth Act !!! I enjoyed his whole career !!!
Thank you champ.
Hagler in his prime was an unstoppable beast.... never stopped coming forward....wore you out
Bar none, marvelous Marvin hagler was the best I personally can say was the best pound for pound fighter of all time. The reason I say these things are the obvious, fought em all and did not matter where. Excellent foot movement, left to right, right to left as in constant angles thus rarely leaving himself open. Power in both hands. Could take a punch. Dedicated as one can see watching him he trained 110%. Listened to his corner. I respect then and now Mr Marvelous Marvin Hagler. I honestly hope he rests in peace. Oh, and came from some terrible conditions as a child and was a hod carrier in early life. Never, ever forgot to take care of his family but mostly his mom.
