I remember this AMAZING fight so well. Marvin is my favorite boxer/fighter of all time.
Marvin hagler was a unstoppable beast in the ring 👏🏼💯
Yes Sir he was!!! My favorite fighter and I am very honored to had possess a great friendship as well with Marvelous. He was like a Big Brother unto me. Miss him dearly 😢
He was the man👍
@@henrybrown9702 i met Marvin in the UK . He was My Idol ..i asked him a couple of questions he took the time to answer . So so sad he's not here no more !
Until the judges robbed him in the fight against Leonard.
@@jota55581 Yes Sir he was and still remains in my heart as a Dear friend, Big Brother figure and my idol and favorite boxer of all time. I possessed a great friendship with he and Kay. i care to share also that I was 12 and 13 years of age when I viewed two of his fights back in the 70's at the infamous Spectrum arena in Philidelphia. I am elated that you had the opportunity to chat with him . A great man indeed !!! Missed Dearly !
Middleweight GOAT 🐐🥊 R.I.P Marvelous Marvin Hagler 🥊🙏
Mugabi was a beast! But Marvelous was a machine and he just kept coming relentlessly.
A YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Yeah, both snatched both souls that night, Mugabi's heart was never the same, Marvin slowed down after.
no fighter in any division today could fight with both of these guys. no one.
Absolutely correct!
Just my opinion, but 100% agree
Canelo would gas with the pace they put on back then. I think a prime GGG could hang in that era but he'd face more adversity
The great hagler a great warrior so sad that you are gone but i still like the person that you was rest and peace brother i know that you are in heaven you was a such a good person in Life god bless you Marvin
Excellent! So well put! So right! Blessigs.
Thats when boxing was great.Hats off to the fighters of that ERA
Marvin was the beast inside the ring but a gentleman outside the ring RIP Champ❤
You said it perfectly. God Rest Marvin’s soul✝️
Marvellous Marvin, the best boxer fighter, to ever lace up a pair of gloves,God bless you, ❤
Him & Sugar Ray Robinson
When boxing was pure!!! No social media!
And still my favourite boxer of all time. Marvelous marvin hagler.
The Beast was defeated the Marvelous one. Hagler took everything Mugabi threw at him and walked through it. Monster of a middleweight.
Best pound for pound fighter ever any time any where that was hagler met him at Doncaster racecourse a few years ago a true gentleman so sad that he has passed RIP marvelous
What a brawl! Mugabi was tough but no one was tougher than MMH !!
Not even Hearns showed any real want to fight Mugabi at that time. He was as dangerous as boxing ever had. Mugabi threw the kitchen sink at Marvin and Marvin seemed to enjoy it. Hagler proved himself to the Man of Steel and fighter of multiple styles to handle all situations. Neither fighter was the same after that night. Great fights come at a cost. And only Legends understand what their moment in time secures for the Legacy they created from all that sweat, work, and discipline. Both fighters great in my book. May never see another like it in my lifetime. So be it !
The Mugabi that fought Hagler beats Hearns imo.
By the way ,great comment.👍
Well said
...Not possible... I meant, oops! Lol
Hagler is a great champion even on the decline he had mental and chin of steel to beat to Mugabi I've never seen Hagler take power punches like that that's why Leonard took the fight bigger gloves and bigger ring it gave him more room to run still think Hagler won the fight RIP champ
Imagine having never been to the 11th round until you had to go there with Marvin Hagler.
The Prime of Boxing
Saw this fight on Closed Circuit in the Boston Garden when it was held. One of the greatest fights ever! Two really tough fighters!
Hands down one of the best middleweight fights of all time. What a fight!
One of the best you'll see on film
mugabi was a JM
@@mrmeener625he knocked out all of the other middleweights but he couldn't mess with Hagler. Marvin Hagler was a beast!
Always loved this fight from Hagler. Bad man right there. Mugabi was supposed to take the throne, but Hagler didn’t get the memo 😂
I wish all world title challengers put forth the effort that The Beast did on this day.
The Beast walked away from this fight knowing he did his best.
Hagler, the last great long reigning undisputed MW champ.
Hagler systematically wore Mugabi down then finished him. Great performance by both guys, Hagler just had too much. RIP Marvellous
Bernard hopkins
@@michaelsteger3908 Hopkins fought once as undisputed MW champ, but yes he was a good MW champ, cleaned up the division in the mid 90s to mid 00s.
Hagler ruined Mugabi. He was never the same after this.
neither was hagler. he lost to Leonard next fight then retired
Exactly. Hagler won that fight because he was the toughest thing on two legs. Mugabi hit Marvin with everything but a Chevy, but Hagler simply refused to be hurt.
@@mrmeener625 Hagler had logged changed changed Styles Hagler in his prime was not a slugger . He was Master box puncher . Time caught up with him .
@@mrmeener625that was some total bs.
@@MrJbee73 haglers biggest fights were against LW WW JM. mugabi was a JM. leonard did not want to fight hagler until he saw the mugabi fight. hagler pissed blood for days after. then leonard wanted to fight and hagler was a shell of himself and lost. mugabi fight ruined both of them
RIP the great Marvin Hagler.
*LEGENDARY SCRAP HERE!!!*
RIP THE MARVELOUS ONE, and ref-judge (🤣😂) Mills Lane
What a beaty was Marvin to watch. The 6th round fabulous!
What a fight!
That round 6 was so brutal indeed.......Mugabi being able to absorb that punishment and keep coming back, wow just wow
Hagler had him there but Referee Mills Lane interfered and got Mugabi off the hook until Hagler got him in the 11th round
@@Robert-qm5sonah when Mills Lane warned Marvin, Mugabi was answering punch with punch.....he was hurt badly in the middle of the round but kept find the strength to answer.....watch how they started round 7.
@@emanuele1334 no, Hagler had him, Mugabi was about to go down but then Mills Lane stops them and signals the judges to take away a point from Marvin Hagler, Mills was wrong doing that cuz he took too long to make that call .
In the post fight interview Mugabi said he felt he was getting hit with a blackjack.
GRUELLING FIGHT FOR BOTH CONGRATS M.M. THE MAN
I sure miss the days watching Hagler fight.
One of the greatest middleweight fights of all time, and to think the 32yo Hagler wanted this fight. Against a prime 26yo with 27fights & 27 K.Os. Hagler was the Beast here but Mugabi gave Hagler a great fight. Can you imagine these in the middleweight era today, they be done for muder.
Facts 💯% I didn't grow up watching hagler, but i can definitely say boxing back then was way more raw. The best literally fought the best 🔥
@@ChakraOver9k Hagler is the best switch hitter in boxing history
Tbf Mugabi had done his damage at Light Middle
@@ChakraOver9k Watch Hagler's fights against Wilford Scypion & Tony Sibson - Prime Hagler displaying switch hitting at it's best.
@@MartinSmith-qt3ccno he didn't the majority he knocked out were middleweights
Hagler 62-2 after this fight. Seems he doesn't get enough recognition on the all-time p4p list. Has to be top 20 I think.
At least top ten
In my honest opinion he should of been 66- 1 , he was robbed alot of times that because of the Nevada Boxng Commision, they hated Hagler cuz Hagler wouldn't bend backwards for them 😡
Legend!
Long Live, MH.
Far too much is made of Hearns bout, this is a ‘war’
Totally agree. The first round of Hearns/Hagler was as good as any round in history. But Hearns broke his right hand, and the remaining rounds he gave it his best, but the fight pace slowed, and was basically over. Hearns always wanted a rematch but never got it. I'm from Michigan, and saw a lot of writeups about Hearns that didn't make the national news. For a couple of years after their fight, people would ask Tommy how his hand was doing. He almost always would say, "It's good, I'm saving it for Marvins head!!" Can you imagine fighting Hagler with one hand??!!! Wow.....
@@milojanis4901Hearns broke his hand with Hagler's chin not his head ...😮 Wow Marvin Hagler was a beast!
I always wondered why more fighters didn’t adopt Marvin’s style. Dominant side forward fighter with a decent rear cross, switch stances when the opponent is in trouble to finish him.
Hagler was my all-time favorite fighter then and still today. I went to his first middleweight title defense in the Boston Garden in 81 with my two buddies Freddie and Pepper Roach. Freddie fought on the under-card of that fight. I remember watching this fight on Armed Forces Network (AFN) in my barracks room when I was a soldier stationed in South Korea. John "The Best Mugabi" was a middleweight George Foreman at the time just destroying everyone they put in the ring with him........until this fight. Marvelous Marvin Hagler truly tamed the beast in this fight. It was a good fight by both fighters but Hagler was King of the Middleweights, one of the best divisions in boxing during this time, along with Lightweight and Welterweight!
Marvin a great legend from my era for sure saw him 1 night coming out of a package store in Lakeville Massachusetts with a few beautiful ladies. Brockton Massachusetts legend
One of the great fights of all time!
Wow what a fight! This fight was very consistent in it's cadence and tactics of each fighter but yet still very impressive and even exciting at times. Hagler was wearing down Mugabi round by round with a 2:1 ratio of good shots by my estimation (just a gut impression) but there was still that threat that Mugabi could land a knockout shot to save himself. But the last few rounds, Hagler was just too strong and made it almost impossible for Mugabi to even survive and finished him. Both fighters were incredibly brave but Hagler is the Champion who truly boxed himself to undeniable victory. It's hard to put my finger on how or why but fights rarely seem this genuinely good these days. Hagler wanted to win and definitely showed why he's definitely one of the all time greatest fighters.
Beast never the same after this. When you pound on someone with everything you have and nothing happens your psyche gets destroyed. Mugabi v hamsho would've been great or mugabi v Duran!
Mugabi would knocked out both of them, Hagler said in a interview that Mugabi hit harder then Hearns and Hearns could punch 😮 imagine then what those blows of Mugabi would do.
How was mugabi an inch shorter?
He was way taller when receiving the instructions
I thought the same thing Mugabi was a Light Heavyweight I guarantee you his walking around weight was 180lb maybe more
Good point same here
It would be impossible to bring those type of boxers and fights back to now a days ,
Crawford reminds me so much of Hagler back in the day. Always had to get it the hard way!
HE HIT HAGLER WITH EVERYTHING BUT THE KITCHEN SINK -- SO MARVIN USED IT -- BRUTAL FIGHT
Nobody wanted to fight Mugabi during this time except Haglar, and the punches he hit Haglar with would have ko'd anybody else. This was a brutal fight and Mugabi was never the same afterwards.
I love Marvin Marvelous Hagler Best Middleweight ever who fought with Heart and pride such a Great person Rest Well Champ your Best fan ever 🙏
11:27 center just outside the ring. Burt Reynolds
aaand 35:55 Tom Seleck
I watched every fight Hagler fought.. This guy was absolutely fantastic,,, a true boxer..⁉️‼️🇺🇸
I remember this fight! It was one of Hagler's most difficult wins. He had STAMINA over Mugabi. Close call.
It's noteworthy that the last three fights of Marvelous Marvin Hagler were pure masterpieces, by comparison, Carlos Monzon achieved lacklustre fights.
In one of the greatest pre-fight interviews of all time, Mugabi answered every single question with "I'm going to knock him out." It was like: "How was your flight over?" "I'm going to knock him out." "Were able to train hard for the fight?" "I'm going to knock him out." It was priceless. And we saw what happened.
Marvin hagler was a problem one of my favorite boxer 💯
Watched this fight 100’s of times as a kid, in awe of how good a technician Marvin was, along with being as tough as nails and in the most amazing physical condition. Only later in life and after seeing his earlier fights did I realise he was even better when he was younger!!! A true legend of the ring 😇 💪. Any 1 who got to watch him, it was a privilege 💪💪💪💪
📌 Hagler started well on his toes .. stepping in with the jab .. going to the body on the inside .. stepping outside of the lead foot of the orthodox fighter .. mixing it up in the exchanges .. coming forward with pressure like Aaron Pryor even after getting caught in an exchange .. props to Mugabi for being game and going until he ran out of gas .. Hagler's conditioning and swift jab were definitely underrated as well as his innate ability to switch southpaw to orthodox instinctively to touch up his opponent with his closest hand regardless of where his opponent stepped
This was an extremely tough fight for the aging Hagler - he was approaching his mid 30s and had been in a lot of wars at this stage - Mugabi was young and upcoming with a powerful punch - Marvin eventually wore him down and stopped him but in the ring afterwards he actually hinted at retirement
That occasional gazelle jab Marvin throws in this fight right after an exchange when they are at distance right when Mugabi probably begins taking a breath to reset for a moment are brilliant.
Marvin was the man!
Mugabi was never the same after this fight. Hagler took the beast inside Mugabi and destroyed him.
I've never seen anyone punch with such pin point accuracy as Marvin Hagler.
Hagler was a great fighter However Mugabi never learned how to box all of his punches were bombs you have to give Marvin credit That one uppercut Mugabi hit him with knocked out or knocked down every other middle weight to that point Hagler was one tough SOB RIP Marvelous one
I remember this fight. I was always a Hagler fan but when this fight was announced I thought oh boy! The Beast was just that a tough guy. And no guarantees even for Marvin. What a great fight. For me this was definitely a great fight. I know he was angry and when he retired moved to Italy. Glad he came back home before passing away. I also believe he won the first Sugar Ray Lenard fight. Just my opinion! Mugabi was also a champion. Thanks to both of them for entertaining all of us. May they RIP.
Round 6🔥🔥🔥🔥
Why does the other guy look taller than hagler but the height said hagler was taller 😅
Incredible fight, this is what boxing is all about, not the circus that it's become these days, and truth be told,I was a little worried before this fight, because Mugabi is extremely dangerous.
Yes .
I loved Tim and Gil. A very underrated commentary team. This fight finished Mugabi and slowed Marvin. Devastating!
Hey top rank can you post the first Duran Leonard fight in this quality lol
POST BOTH FIGHTS!!!
Not the 3rd that no one remembers.
Round 6 was one for the ages!
That uppercut at the end of round 4 would have dropped any fighter today, it took everything from Hagler to soak it up. A defining moment from a true boxing legend. Such a shame that his legacy almost over looks what tremendous fight this was, a ferocious slug fest from 2 incredible athletes.
Simply marvelous
Who else remembers the punky brewster episode featuring Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
I love these old fights .marvin the greatest
That was a very tough fight
Il più grande peso medio della storia della boxe mondiale.❤😂
P marvelous Marvin hagler the greatest pure boxer in history without a doubt my favorite fighter of all times
RIP Marvelous one! ☝️ the champ!!
Marvin doing road work in army boots as he called sneakers "sissy shoes" tells you a lot about this great man. Marvin, Pat and Goody stayed loyal to each other throughout his career. I don't think they took a penny from Marvin's purse for many years. Three great men!
One of my fav all time fighters fought every one clean his division like a true champ , mugabi was unbeaten and on his prime , no blemish 😮and gave hangler a very tough fight , after this lose to hangler mugabi was never the same fighter , but hangler fought him when he was most dangerous 😮😮when a true champ does what a true champ does 😮
What a war! Non-stop action. God bless Marvin; they don't make them like that anymore.
The key was Marvin switching to right handed on the inside. He did major damage with the right hook from that stance. Beast carried his southpaw right hand low on inside. Marvin consistently made him pay with that.
Looking back on this excellent fight one has to wonder how much this bout took out of Hagler. Mugabi landed bombs on him. This may partially account for how Marvin struggled a year later with Leonard.
One of the greates midle weigt all time. R.i.p.champ.
Why does top rank re upload videos ?
Hagler was the only middleweight who could take the punishment Mugabi dished out and eventually stop him/ Marvin should have never had his title taken by Leonard in what at most was a draw !!!###
Hagler raises arms...."Are you not entertained"
Marvelous, Marvin Hagler is a great fighter. This is a real boxing match
Hagler was the best of the best a real beast
This is boxing today's boxers don't compare to this
Amazing to think that after that Mugabi became the president of Zimbabwe
Marvin was never the same after this fight. Neither Mugabi.
How
Any other fighter would not have survived Mugabi. Hagler was a truly elite fighter.
The fact that Hagler came out orthodox was quite smart against an explosive power puncher who was dangerous early on in fights. Hagler wanted to take Mugabi's gameplan away from the start, because Mugabi was most likely expecting Hagler to come out southpaw
Now that was a fight and not just dancing and holding 🎉
I grew up in Marvin's area, in 1986 I was in a restaurant/bar during the day playing a pinball machine and who puts a quarter in the machine next to me, it's Marvin, I was in awe, I was 26 and I'm 6'1" and I remember thinking, wow he's not really big, but he was ripped, we chatted for 10/15 minutes, not talking boxing, just life in general, I think he appreciated that, to me he was the champ, he beat Leonard that fight, but Leonard finished with a flourish and showboated, Marvin won that fight, he always got screwed financially.
RIP Marvelous Marvin Hagler
I went to see mike Tyson fight vs steve zouski in the nassau colliseum after the fight they lowered four movie screens around the ring to show this fight live from vegas main event !
I dnt think hes just Tired he just got his head banged left en right lol
Utter exhaustion. First time since Ray Robinson (who was winning every round) failed to answer the bell due to complete exhaustion.
Mugabi was the real deal....nobody but Hagler could have taken them heavy hands...two great warriors....this pair would of marched on with today's middleweights...
Hagler beat Leonard,no doubt about it....!
Yup
Sugar ray was the golden boy Haggler beat him hands down. They all avoided Aaron Pryor.
@@MartyGodbyHagler would have destroyed Pryor
Dopo quel match Mugabi chiuse prematuramente la sua luminosa carriera , avrebbe dovuto attendere ancora un paio di anni e di sicuro avrebbe conquistato il titolo mondiale.
