For all non-spanish speakers, in the min. 33:11 you can hear Roldan saying: "I can't see anymore, please stop the fight" but the coach replys him: "keep fighting, you can win this, your eyes are not so bad". That was a criminal behavior by the coach but he has orders by Tito Lectoure (an argentinian fight promoter) to do not stop the fight under any circunstance.

I was a huge Marvelous Marvin Hagler fan back in the day. And I remembered the first time watching Juan Domingo Roldan as he knocked out Frank "The Animal" Fletcher. Something in the back of my mind as a fight fan sort of told me that if he and Marvelous Marvin Hagler would square off as they eventually did, Roldan was going to pose quite a few problems for Hagler. Roldan was a much more accomplished boxer than he gets credit for. He was known for his extremely powerful right punch as his nickname "Martillo" confirmed that. For the first three rounds, Hagler was a bit confused as the fight was not initially going according to plan as Roldan was effectively scoring points to Hagler's body and especially to his head. It was unfortunate that Roldan's eye swelled up during that fight, but that's the fight game.

I definitely agree with you. As stories stated, some thought that it was a controversial thumb from Hagler into Roldan's eye. I think it was totally accidental. There is no way I would believe that as some stated that Hagler may have purposely thumbed Roldan in the eye to change the pace of the match. I was definitely impressed and proud of Roldan's effort against Hagler. Unfortunately, Roldan was never the same fighter after the Hagler bout. As I mentioned, that's the fight game.

Roldan was 30 seconds away from winning round 3 which would have put him up 30 - 26 on the judges scorecards. For Hagler to retain his title with a draw he would have needed to win 8 of the last 12 rounds. I'm not saying he couldn't have done it, but he would have needed to fight way more aggressively than he had been up to that point, which would have been the exact fight that Roldan wanted. Marvin totally would have had to change his game plan, which he probably didn't want to do. That eye injury prevented perhaps one of the great fights of all time, as Roldan was gettting hit with punches that he was easily avoiding earlier in the fight. He pretty much had Hagler figured out the first two and a half rounds.

Juan Domingo Roldan was a tough, rough fighter.

Marvin Haglar, the WINNER of the fight, was tougher and rougher.

The eye gouge changed everything. Hagler would have still won , but he would have taken a beating. Roldan just swings unrelenting and wild.

No WAY was that a knockdown in the first round. Hagler chewed Roldan up and spit him OUT...he made the "tough guy" QUIT!

I saw something very telling between round 9 and 10 in the corner of Roldan..Roldan obviously gave everything he had left and was pretty much done..he didn't seem to want know more..however his corner was urging him to continue. Here is my assessment and personal analysis at that point..If I was in that corner and realistically thought..that my fighter..Roldan..had a a very good chance of possibly winning the fight in the next couple of rounds..yeah..I'd send him out..but Roldan came into that corner discouraged and not the guy that wanted to win the Undisputed Middleweight championship of the world..and what happened next is history

The other advantage Hagler had in his fights is that he was better than everyone else. Let's not make excuses.

Roldan was such a tough guy. Check out his fight with Hearns for the title. Giys like Roldan and Hamsho didnt have great ability but they were old school tough.

+aaron pryor Roldan knocked out Fletcher and James Kitchen in their primes. He almost KOED Hearns.
      Hamsho had little power though.

No power? You obviously know nothing about boxing, Aaron. Look at their records as you seem to have no idea what these guys achieved.

this was one of the best Hagler fights, Roldan was hard and aggressive, Hagler showed him why he was the champ. Excellent fight
