      I agree. This was the 80s and look at his conditioning. Then there was his boxing ability. The first round of his fight with Tommy Hearns was the best round of boxing I've ever witnessed. Sadly he died far too young. But do legends ever die?

    • @manuginobilisbaldspot424
      @manuginobilisbaldspot424 9 месяцев назад +4

      Agreed. Iron chin, power in both hands, could fight from both southpaw and orthodox stance effectively, elite stamina, and for a pressure fighter, very good head movement and defense. He could do everything and that made him adaptable vs various styles of fighters.

      Couldn't agree more, Marvelous Marvin Hagler was my hero, the greatest middleweight to ever step in the ring. He had everything , granite chin,skill, we can only imagine what his opponents felt like seeing this relentless man just coming at you time and time again. He worked so hard to get to the top, for years he was denied a shot at the title. R.I.P champ ❤

  • @estasquecrujes

    I find it fascinating how elite fighters make difficult stuff look so natural. Tony Sibson had some good head movement, he was light on his feet, he had some hard up and down combos. The same game plan worked a treat against Minter and he splattered him. However, against Hagler he basically got dog walked. Beautiful movement from Hagler to keep the range and stay off the ropes, punching on the move, jab-step back-then ripping a surprise combo. This is all very difficult stuff. Minter in comparison looked basic as hell.
    If Tony Sibson had cut the ring off a bit more he might have had a lot more success - that was a major mistake from his corner. Ultimately though Hagler just seemed better everywhere - tighter guard inside, spinning off at angles. He was just a different level.

    Tony Sibson in his chosen sport of boxing was in an era when there was only three titles,from a country with poorer training and sparring and poorer opportunities,But when he managed with extreme hard work to get his chances to fight for world titles he tried so hard and did his utmost to win.He did beat some big names.Bravery, integrity and commitment is to be admired even if "Sibbo"never won a world title.Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank would have had to work very hard to beat this guy.Ex World champion Frank Tate the last fighter who beat Tony Sibson said he was a fan of Sibson when he fought Hagler.

    "Of course.....it's a Hagler crowd...." And very definitely a Hagler commentator based on the lack of objectivity. Sibson took three fast right crosses, and immediately counter-attacked and delivered some good counter punches- commentator says *NOTHING.*

      @liverpoolscottish6430 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@Salieri47 I have to say, as a general rule, I find American boxing commentators are almost always partisan and subjective. British commentators are generally far more even handed and fair. Hagler deserved the win, but Sibson didn't receive the acknowledgement that his skill and efforts deserved from the commentator. I note that when they made the Ali film- which I enjoyed, the famous knock down of Ali by Henry Cooper wasn't even referred to in the film! Risible- Cooper knocked Ali down in his prime with one of the fastest and best delivered left hooks in boxing history- ZERO reference to it. I don't think Ali himself would have been happy about that, he had a great deal of respect and affection for Henry Cooper, he would have wanted it to be referenced I certain of that- Ali was a great sportsman and generally acknowledged other fighters who fought tenaciously against him. Thanks for acknowledging my point- appreciated! :)

      Yeah, first time I've watched this back since 1983 and Sibson did a lot better (whilst getting stopped in 6 rounds) than I remembered. His head movement and balance was good, he landed some hard left hooks in close, but Hagler's jab was a ramrod. He was a shorter guy (less than the listed 5'9 and a half he was listed at imo), but with a freakishly long reach. You could see Sibson getting hit numberous times while thinking he must be out of range.

  • @vistarecords4930

    Gotta give Sibson credit - he didn't back down at all. He took Hagler's best shots and fired back with a bunch of his own. But Hagler was clearly the better fighter here. Of course, Hagler was one of the best of all time. He had such smoothness and fluidity in his style to go along with that great power. I love watching Hagler's fights. I only saw 2 or 3 of them back in the 80's, but now they're all on RUclips!
