The most fascinating and amazing crossover of all time. Idk who's idea this was, but whoever was proposed with this idea and had to say "yes" to it, thank you.
I've watched hundreds of episodes of Objectivity, yet I never made the observation that Captain D made early on--that the ability to use basic perspective and shading to make an ink drawing seemed to be almost a necessity for a learned person pre-20th century
This was awesome!!! This collaboration was unexpected and I loved it. Some of my favorite channels coming together to geek out, who ever had this idea is a genius.
I was about to say I'd never heard of this fellow so this video was totally surreal to me, but now I see folk who do know him seem to think it's even weirder than I do!
I'd highly recommend his H3H3 interview. He's very soft-spoken in real life and had an INSANE childhood. Like... His family history sounds like something that would be made into a documentary.
I don't know what genre I'm supposed to be watching. I kept shifting between grinning, waiting for a funny joke, and a serious scowl to make myself feel intelligent.
This is amazing. I can't believe you've gotten Ala- Captain Disillusion in full dress into the royal society. Thanks Brady, absolutely love this channel.
Here's why this American doesn't think much of Scott. (1) He thought his privilege granted him exclusive rights to Antarctica, to the detriment of Shackleton, a true explorer. (2) His determination to use man-hauling, when the evidence from the Nordic countries suggested that dog sleds were far superior. (3) his stubborn goal to reach for the pole, even when it was eminently clear that doing so during the attempt would be dangerous from a food standpoint (later borne out). In contrast Shackleton turned back from the pole when his rations showed it impossible to safely reach (4) losing, yes losing, the race to the pole. After all his nonsense, he was forced to accept second place and then died in that very attempt. He led his men to death. That is not heroic, that's just stupid. Contrast that with Shackleton and the Endurance Expedition, when even in catastrophe, he did not lose a single man. Crossing the Southern Ocean in the James Caird, as navigated by Frank Worsley, crossing the glaciers on South Georgia Island (never done before) all to save his men? That's heroic. Dying on the Ice? Yeah, not so much.
Thanks for sharing that with the Captain Disillusion. He really seemed to enjoy himself and sink right into the experience. He genuinely doesn't get enough credit for his hard work, so I'm glad to see him get an experience like this.
Coming in a little late but there's something so perfect about Brady materializing into frame to whisper "Straya" like some kind of Australian cryptid.
I was poised like a panther, waiting to point out that Captain Cook never held the rank of 'captain' the whole video. Anyway, I watched the video again after, just so I could appreciate what was actually going on. Fluffed that a second time too. Wait. WhoHowWhatWhere now? I love that a channel called 'Objectivity' just suddenly took such a surreal turn. Keep up the great work, and keep safe.
I love this guest appearance - because I would have probably not come across this channel if it was not for the Captain doing a video spoofing the styles of several science videos - including the Professor in your Periodic Videos.
Its so nice to See how you care for those old treasured booka so that in the future we will not lose what was written I love people like you so so much!
Makes me wonder whether in that one video, where the Captain did an impression of Prof. Poliakoff, he also did the impersonation of Brady's off-screen voice.
I can't believe he goes out in public like that, thats pretty hilarious. I remember watching his videos years ago thinking thats a strange gimmick for a video but ok crying robot kind of funny. But knowing he goes out and around like that i have more respect for him. Did anyone stop and ask him questions about it or just stare?
I love it! Brady talking about Captain on hello internet is the reason I started watching Captain D, and now Captain D brings me to one of Brady's channels! ❤
I dont think captain disillusion needs an introduction, if you don't know about him you either new to youtube or you live in a cave, this guy has been around for like 12 years and its not easy to forget him once you saw at least a second of his face lol.
I am so baffled by the fact that only two weeks ago, I had never even _heard_ of Captain Disillusion. He just popped up in my recommendations, and ever since I keep running across crossovers and cameos involving pretty much _all_ of the sciencey channels I respect and follow. Objectivity, Numberphile, Standupmaths, Tom Scott... The list goes on. This is wonderful. CD, where did you come from?!?!
One thing that gets me as well is that a LOT of these people have been in the Netherlands or even Amsterdam at some point in the past few years. And I always discover this after the fact. I could have met them!
The Chained Library at the Hereford Cathedral is a spectacular artifact Brady. Certainly worthy of an Objectivity episode. In the days when books were rare and extraordinarily valuable, the library at Hereford Cathedral kept their tomes secure by literally chaining the book to the shelf.
I agree with the captain about drawing in writing. My grandfather is an ambassador from my country in South Korea. His whole life all spend in Military and only later he got into politics. But when we see his letters and the books he writes. Everything have some kind of sketch. My grandfather die when my father still a kid, he never teach my father how to draw but my father can draw. It's just weird
Great collab with great people. Would love to see you bring the Captain back one day to look at famous magicians or others involved with illusions or bunk.
WOW! This is the mashup that I didn't dare dreaming about! I hope you also filmed some space gloves of destiny and, hopefully something relating to film and or space photography
Oh no! At 1:46 Keith misread "Herefordshire" (correctly identified on the map a moment later) as "Hertfordshire". My confidence in his awesomeness is shattered ☹ And "series" at 10:10 seems dodgy too, though would the more likely "secs." be short for "sections" or "seconds" (of arc) or ???
