This video has everything. Brady's infectious excitement, John's sense of wonder, Rupert's quiet passion. Acknowledgement by name of a woman's contribution to one of the featured works. My day has been made.
I haven't watched a vlog brothers video in nearly a decade... woah... but I was definitely expecting him to say dooblydoo because that's what it's called. Happy to see he at least stumbled on the word 😅
You can tell John Green naturally has his "writer brain" on all the time because of how beautifully he summed up "That is what happens in the fullness of time" when Brady mentioned that people pointing at Isac Newton's name over time have started to rub out the name beneath it. I've seen Objectivity's original video with the Charter Book but this is the first time I've heard someone make a metaphor about some people's names becoming so famous that other people, while highly accomplished in their own right, get "rubbed out" over generations in favour of a few very big names.
@SageThyme23 - I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but could you tell me why you didn't write "an objectivity collab" instead of "a objectivity"? I've seen this a lot lately and wondered if it's being taught now. Personally, I find it clunky - imagine saying it out loud "a objectivity" is very difficult to say imo.
@@honeychurchgipsy6 .... who cares? it's the internet. speak however you want to speak but don't harp on people in youtube comments of all places about grammar. if you're able to understand what they were saying then you don't need to point out issues
@@honeychurchgipsy6 he got the point across, and saying it out loud for me was not difficult. it's easier for me to say an FBI agent rather than a FBI agent, so it's probably different for where youre coming from
Brady even actually put the link to Micrographia in the description! But jokes aside, this was a wonderful episode. John being so awestruck really came across. I also was wishing for at least one work of fiction being among the books selected, so great choice for the last book. And the video _did_ have a good ending! :D
As someone who lives in Malta, I was so excited when the Maltese printer was mentioned at 11:30! It's so fun to see our little islands popping up in places like this.
Haven't watched yet, but I just wanted to say that I've been anxiously awaiting this episode since you teased it to us Patreons! YAY for a John Green/Brady Haran colab! You've had Hank & John... good luck getting Dave on to complete the set of brothers.
The argument could be made that John acknowledged Robert Hook as the reason he's obsessed with tuberculosis. He just didn't name the specific microorganism he's centered his obsession on 😉
10:04 that's such an adorable illustration. Such a wonderful book with gorgeous illustrations. It's amazing the colour is still vivid. Botanical art is always fascinating.
Absolutely wonderful. Also, seeing John outside of his own editing, I feel comforted by seeing that his mannerisms are similar to mine with OCD, but that they're really not that bad, despite what we think of ourselves in the moment!
You know, I have several orchids, and I actually don't think it's all that hard to keep them alive. I've kept five of them alive for a few years now. I did kill two by repotting them. I thought they would love having a bigger pot with some nice new orchid moss mix. They did not. So now I don't repot them. XD But otherwise, they've stuck with me. I do think sometimes people think they have killed their orchid just because it has stopped blooming, and if that is you, you should know that that is normal! As long as the leaves look healthy and green, it's still doing fine, just done blooming for the year. Keep on caring for it normally and it will almost certainly bloom again the next year. They're pretty fun little plants, I think. (Also Augusta Withers is a delightful name.)
Before we got to it, I thought to myself, "If I got the invite, the book I'd like to see is that 15th century almanac Brady looked at once." And that very book was the first one after the signatures! It has very early Arabic numerals and the 0 for zero.
Brady, you have outdid yourself...I met Green at a Borders conference after his first book was released and I have been Hooked ever since. To see you both together is a treat that is hard to beat!
On page 2 of the charter book are three inscriptions in what appears to be arab scripts. Are you able to do a video on who signed them and who they were ?
Keeping these bits and bobs of soon to be ancient knowledge is so important. Humans write things down because we can't remember everything. Thank you to the Royal Society and Objectivity!
I had the pleasure of meeting John when I shot an episode of the Gregory Brothers' series "Wikiwars", and he was so awesome. I was only around him for a short time, but seeing this video I am reminded of how down to earth he is, and I know first hand how sincere and awestruck he is being here. Because he sure wasn't awestruck by my dumb a**, haha! Imagining myself seeing the Principia in real life, through John's eyes, actually made me tear up a bit.
Considering John uses books instead of weights in his workout routines (In that one video years ago, and in my headcannon ever since) I'd trust his gut on that 17kg deadlift
It's hilarious to me that they took out a book by Bertrand Russell, compared it with the Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, and yet failed to mention that, together with Alfred North Whitehead, he wrote a book also named 'Principia Mathematica'.
I am a strangely new listener to Hello Internet and this is the first time I've ever seen Brady. I came here for John and wasn't expecting a face spoiler today but it has happened and I feel like he would appreciate that.
John Green: "I wont be uploading today" Objectivity" "Hold my Beer"
Literally spit out my tea. Bravo.
John so badly wanted to say "link in the dooblydoo" at 14:50
had to correct himself!!
I was waiting for him to say dooblydoo, you can tell from the slight hesitation that was where he was going.
+
Man I literally just posted this comment to see that you got there 3 hours earlier. Comment deleted
:(
I thought the same thing.
A famed modern author, upon seeing a wonderful classic text, "I have a sock company like that!" He did not forget to be awesome.
He is nothing but a shill for a company that donates all of its profits to charity
Brady: "Im working with professionals."
John: *almost says 'link is in the dooblydoo'*
This video has everything. Brady's infectious excitement, John's sense of wonder, Rupert's quiet passion. Acknowledgement by name of a woman's contribution to one of the featured works. My day has been made.

This is exactly the comment I wanted to write. Thank you.
and a promise of a Hank video to come!
It's like a rollercoaster but you never leave the start point really
I love that pause near then end just before John says "description" because it's automatically "dooblydoo"
I haven't watched a vlog brothers video in nearly a decade... woah... but I was definitely expecting him to say dooblydoo because that's what it's called. Happy to see he at least stumbled on the word 😅
John: It's a subscription service. I have a sock company like that. XD
you can actually see John shift from third into reverse as he starts to say “link in the dublidoo”
Found this thanks to the We're Here newsletter and had a lovely time watching and learning

@@rosianna omg rosianna i didn't even THINK about the smell!!!!!!!! I can only imagine 😭😍
"Woah" - John Green
"Mustache" - Pizza John
What a lovely video, big thanks to John for stopping by and hats off for Brady for making it happen!
I saw john had been handling rare books in london and I hoped and prayed that it would be a Objectivity collab
Where did you see that? Did someone tweet about it or something?

That small illustration of the librarians carrying the large orchid book is great 🙂 Thank you for the awesome video!
John, we demand to see your Edmond Halley book in an upcoming video!

so orchid
What a guest to have on Objectivity! You can really see the wonderment splash off the screen. It's infectious in the best way!
Here i was expecting this episode to be about Tuberculosis
The argument could be made that John acknowledged Robert Hook as the reason he's obsessed with tuberculosis. He just didn't name the specific microorganism he's centered his obsession on 😉
Wow! Haven't seen John Green and Brady Haran in the same video since the Veritasium BrainSTEM conference in 2012
10:04 that's such an adorable illustration. Such a wonderful book with gorgeous illustrations. It's amazing the colour is still vivid. Botanical art is always fascinating.
Rupert has such a soothing voice ❤️ and both John and Brady are utterly delightful
11:09 nice John!
Wow, this is so cool!! Thanks for sharing this with John and with us!
9:00 "in American- in yeah world science history probably" nice save

Good to see John there, well done Brady!
That was actually quite lovely, thanks for sharing, so glad you all had a good time. Charles
Those Green boys seem like great lads.
It's almost like they keep remembering to be awesome or something
So much of the world we're familiare with grew from the books on that table. And there was also one with a nice dust jacket. Thanks for the videos.

Hank Green also asked that question and Keith had the answer: The Moroccan Ambassador.
What video was that in ?@@MichaelSteeves
Excellent guest. ❤ John and Hank. :)
I've been waiting for this ever since John subtley hinted at it in the podcast recently
Extraordinary and fascinating, thank you!

Im happy to see a big channel (objectivity) give a shoutout to a small content creator like John Green 💚
If you line up Adam Savage -> Brady -> John Green, it's like a real-world morphing effect.
getting two surprise video from each of the green brothers on the same day kind of feels like winning the lottery
Brady, you never fail to amaze. Had I been there you would have been dealing with tears on the paper.
Considering John uses books instead of weights in his workout routines (In that one video years ago, and in my headcannon ever since)
I'd trust his gut on that 17kg deadlift
Brady looking trim! Happy to see this team up :))
6:45 "BUT, we have something even MORE priceless here" John, probably: "some infinities are bigger than others" 😁
It's hilarious to me that they took out a book by Bertrand Russell, compared it with the Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, and yet failed to mention that, together with Alfred North Whitehead, he wrote a book also named 'Principia Mathematica'.
“Everything is interesting if you zoom in enough.”
This is awesome
Its also giving architecture digest
There is a baron von Humboldt among the subscribers to the orchid book. Is that the famous explorer?
“I have a sock company like that”😂
Looking good Brady!
11:07 Alexander von Humboldt was a subscriber!
Fantastic as always, Brady

Particularly good Objectivity episode!
Wonderful. Thank you.
Oh that orchid book is exquisite
Now there's a celebrity I want to see! Is Hank on next? What about Wheezy Waiter?
We have done a couple of videos with Hank in the past. Links in description.
Shout-out to the cameraperson, that zoom at 0:26 is perfect.
This was lovely.
An amazing episode
two giants of youtube, together at long last 💜
Whose signature is underneath Isaac Newton?
If I'm not mistaken, that's James Hoare Jr. He was a goldsmith. Very little is known about him beyond that, sadly.
There's gotta be some TB in the Royal Society Archives!
Those unfamiliar with the lore presumably thought “I have a sock company like that” was an odd joke. 🙂
Is that Brady Haron from Hello Internet ?
Was the current royal page ready for this recording? I was hoping for it!
wasn't there a Hi episode about Brady going to Vidcon talking to John, having no clue who he was,
or was it Hank, it's been a minute.
Great video (as always)
So awesome!!
I can relate to „this is a dream come true“ I think I might have teared up a bit if I would have been standing there 😅
Does the Royal Society have any books by Ernst Haeckel? His work looks AMAZING. I'd love to see a video about his books.
Love that he managed to plug the socks
oh good you didn't leave Hank out :D I was like "what about Hank tho?! he'd love this :O "
1:49 Microscopy was an obvious next step. Someone else would have done it sooner than later.
14:00 Take home the orchid book for your wife.
No books about tuberculosis?
I would genuinely cry if I was in the presence of that manuscript...
John with the *immaculate* outro
I wonder if John was a tactile kid. He keeps his hands tucked away like he's been admonished not to touch things.
How did they print those coloured illustration?
Lithograph
God damn I enjoy John Green so much
The funny part is seeing John Green wowing while actually having almost no idea about what he is seeing. Woooooow!!! 🤔
its kind crazy to say its my first time seeing john green standing
I can't be the only one who was on the edge of their seat the entire time, Wondering if the fish book would make an appearance 😂😂😂
Bravo!
I love that he almost said in the dooblydoo
Great video
I can only assume the next video is entirely dedicated to tuberculosis
