I would actually like to add that he adds a ton of overworld comfort as well. With his shield not being tied to a burst and having really good uptime. That and not to mention he is the best ore miner, and his pillar can help with vertical exploration.

Thank you for the very fair look at Zhongli. I love how you say "dying is a DPS loss".
Regarding Alhaitham: imho, Zhongli's value in Alhaitham teams is in spread rather than quickbloom (I wouldn't use him in quickbloom either), but yes he is a Baizhu sidegrade. I still pick him over Baizhu against aggressive enemies like consecrated beasts, for all the reasons you mentioned at the end.
He's also comfortable with Tighnari - since it's quickswap with plenty of time to burst, I like using a hybrid build that does over 100k bursts. And since I rarely use Nahida on this team (she's far more valuable on the other side), Albedo is a great flex slot for buffing 125EM to everyone, geo resonance and his own damage that synergizes extremely well with Yae. Not sure if this sheets well but it's a team I enjoy.
About the Ganyu section: I think it's worth mentioning that Zhongli's shield lasts a lot longer not just due to its uptime, but also because it absorbs more damage. Lasting 12s is nice, but if it breaks after two enemy hits and 6s then it doesn't matter that it was 12s. Xinyan's shield for example is made of paper.
About the Hu Tao section: Zhongli is important for IR, yes, but honestly I wouldn't trust myself to play a character who has to both hug the enemy and stay at lower HP without a very strong shield. I feel like I wouldn't be able to survive any abyss floors with a Hu Tao / Kazuha team with no sustain other than Xingqiu. I've done it before with Yanfei, but Yanfei is also very ranged and can stay far away from the enemy until Xingqiu's healing kicks in.

The thing with Hu Tao needing a shield all has to do with how you choose to build her in my experience. People tend to forgo building Hp because of em because they want to do slightly higher damage than have more survival. Typically when people have the problem you describe it’s because they either 1) have her on shimenawa, which limits her burst availability or 2) have her on crimson with an em sands.
I play her crimson with Hp sands and it’s very comfortable. Hydro resonance makes this even better. I do get an extra boost from having homa but even if I didn’t have that I’d still be fine. Playing her at “low Hp” means different things when you have various Hp thresholds. Since I have 37k low Hp for me is anything under 18.5, which is already higher than most regular characters build for. Building for Hp, plus her own healing and Xingqiu’s rainswords make the fourth slot on the team very flexible. I also think it’s more valuable when you’re dealing with things that one shot shields anyway. I even comfortably played her in abyss resets where there was corrosion.
      Sorry for the long reply

Agree with most of the points, but I'd like to mention something about Layla+Yoimiya and Ganyu/Lyney
Yoimiya's melt team with Layla (for consolidating ST+AoE) is actually Double Cryo with Layla+ Ganyu .i.e Yoimiya-Layla-Ganyu(burst bot)-Venti .
In this case,Layla's cryo application is actually neccessary in ST to maintain consistent cryo uptime ( Venti+Ganyu will kill everything in AoE anyway),Probably even better with FS+Elegy, but you will want the Key to make Layla's shield stronger.
Also wanted to mention that playing Ganyu melt and Lyney are not as shield dependent as people might think.
In AoE,you have the flexibility use them as burst bots when the taunt doesn't work and the enemies are aggresive, and use that time to battery xiangling. When the enemies are taunted and aren't attacking you,you can use that time to do charged shots.
In ST,the enemy patterns are predictable,it is easier to plan when to use charged shots.
Although their personal damage is alot lower here,Xiangling's ER requirements are alot lower in these setups.
Still,I think Zhongli is slightly underrated, esp in hyperbloom and spread teams(which are underrated in general.

I have to say considering Zhongli also has physical damage shred, he can work in an Eula party build. The party would consist of Eula, Raiden/Rosaria, Bennett, and Zhongli. Obviously not the best setup but definitely could be interesting to see and could have some potential

Im pretty sure using layla burst will steal melts in melt Ganyu. Even layla e can steal melts if you are very unlucky. Having tried diona, layla, and tankfei, i found the 12 second shield to be pretty awkward on her, shielding last stops her from getting 6 CA i believe.
Also when judging layla lynette, thier dmg is single target which may not matter much for aoe ganyu and xiao.

I like using Zhongli in my monoCryo Kaeya team (which is just Freeze but I replace Hydro against bosses).

In the hu tao calcs did u consider sucrose since she can give her EM buff to hu tao and the shred from VV to yelan and xingqui when she swirls hydro . Also hu tao can use sub dps options in her double hydro like xiangling and maybe even fischl .
I think with hu tao zhongli is more of a comfort pick rather than the most optimal for dps considering hu tao is quite flexible since she also have VV vape teams that scale better with investment on her and in those teams zhongli can not be slotted in , although VV vape has some rotation issues after the first one , but with enough investment it is definitely one of hu Tao’s best teams ( homa , c1 , kazuha c2 , yelan c2 ) .
Also having an anemo unite like kazuha alone in double hydro might have similar damage to zhongli but in practice the grouping kazuha and to a lesser extent sucrose provides are more needed than a shielder for hu tao since she can self heal and has so much interrupt resist in her teams with xingqui , in many abysses even with bosses each half have at least one chamber that benefits so much from having a grouper and even though hu tao aoe isn’t the best using a grouper can make her charge attacks hit multiple enemies at the same time while they are grouped .
Again I agree that zhongli is very good with hu tao but he is definitely not as good as calcs can make him up to be because most unites that can be placed in the fourth slot will help hu tao solve some of her team issues like grouping with kazuha , aoe with xiangling.

Agree basically on all points and teams. Although, I am always of the stance that Zhongli in a Xiao team is overkill. Xiao plunges very rapidly, and it results in the window of him being interrupted being quite small. And if the player is familiar enough with enemy patterns they can time their plunges to perfectly dodge attacks (very satisfying, I will say). I always use Xiangling instead of a shielder and honestly from experience I get interrupted less with him than regular melee characters. I've also seen the argument that Zhongli allows running Xiao without a healer. But that just seems stupid. As a self respecting Xiao main I wouldn't run Xiao without Bennett
Zhongli being very universal is a very good point though, one that I, well considered, but undervalued I think. The fact that the other competitive options like Layla and Thoma are both 4 stars does have its merits but also caveats with 4 star drops being so random and unpredictable.

    • @GxGNoir
      @GxGNoir  Год назад

yeah I definitely agree that the argument of zhongli letting xiao not use a healer is a meaningless point since you use bennett anyway. hopefully people have learned by now that using albedo instead of bennett is bad

@@GxGNoirI rarely used Xiao, but I have him on my alt account. Doesn’t staying in Bennet’s circle limit Xiao’s mobility significantly?
Usually I prefer not using melee characters with Bennet. I do an exception with Childe because a great amount of Childe’s damage is front-loaded with his Burst, and because Xiangling deals a great amount of the team damage and she snapshots the buffs. I pretty much only use Bennet with Wanderer or Childe.

I don't think "meta" is the correct term for Zhongli. It's strange. META stands for: Most Effective(efficient) Tactic Available. And to be honest, this does INDEED apply to Zhongli in many cases. With consecrated beasts, the most effective thing to do is to tank all the damage with a beefy shield while being very aggro to kill them as quick as possible. Zhongli enables this. I mean, having a shield to literally not worry about attacks is like THE most effective tactic to abuse...so by conventional definitions, Zhongli's value will never BE powercrept from the game. His Geo shield will always be efficient, and he will also be a "neutral" element that can mix with literally any comp that isn't freeze. His resist shield is omni shred, so it's always valuable. His CC works on literally any non boss mob.
However, to be diplomatic: I suppose being super tanky does come at the cost of dps. Having him take up a slot removes someone that might give you more theoretical dps. But what if you need to dodge? What if you fail? What if you take fatal damage? What if you mess up your rotation? You've immediately lost any value you would have theoretically gained by swapping Zhongli out for this other unit. So, it really depends on the PLAYER on whether or not Zhongli is "meta" or not. For the VAST majority of the player base that isn't blessed and skilled to be a dark souls / elden ring level player with reflexes of the gods...yeah, he's definitely the META pick for them. The most efficient path to their goal: full clear of abyss.
He occupies this weird zone of both META and not META at the same time. Schrodinger's unit.
I'd say the better question is: Has zhongli's VALUE fallen off? Is he still as VALUABLE as he was after 1.3's buff/update? Yes. Resoundingly so. He is absolutely just as valuable and flexible, and even still, he gets BETTER with each update. More artifacts for HP, more buffing artifacts and supporting artifacts. Better supportive weapons that can be tossed onto him. Shield that goes well with Fontaine's squishy and HP draining units like Lyney and non C1 Neuvi. At C6, he even enables Hu Tao to wear the Marechausse Hunter set as it small heals her to proc the effect of it no problem. Niche, and only for mega simps/whales, but it just goes to show how good he is even in 4.1. He's incredible.

Not exactly every other rotation but, for example: Rotation 1 lasts from 0-18s and Rotation 2, 18-36s. If you get hit at 5s you still have a window from 25s to 33s to get the cdr on the second rotation.
