i mean, i dont really care because phoenix itself is stupid and trying to play hockey there is just doubly moronic. but yeah that team is actually starting to look really good.
It's honestly funny that a very capable starting goalie like Thompson usually gets a 2nd round pick in a trade, but bottom 6 grinders like Jeannot and Malenstyn fetch just as good, if not greater returns 😂
Both of Washington’s goalies in Lindgren and Thompson are both full righty’s (opposite hand). I wonder when the last time that happened both goalies on an NHL team where both righty’s
Malenstyn is a fantastic defensive forward. His line was deployed the most in the D zone to take faceoffs of any other in the league. The eclipsing 20 points and only being -1 on the season (on a team with an awful goal differential) is indicative of a sneakily great pickup for Buffalo.
honestly though, yea he is right lol. I like Hayes as a person but my god he brought down everyone that played on the line with him for the Blues last year which is why they had to move him.
A point you missed out on Malenstyn is that he blocks shots. 93 in 81 games last year. It seems like the best way to describe him is that he’s a confused defensmen that plays wing 🤷♂️
Yeah but Tampa might be cooking up some strong FA signings especially if they really do go all out for Guentzel and maybe one of the big names defenseman in FA
As a Sabres fan, I could not be happier for Utah HC. Getting a new owner has clearly given them a push to make things happen. I hope they do what I as a Sabres fan have been hoping we do for years. I hope they get sneaky good this year
imo, the Sergachev trade is a perfect example of a trade where everyone wins, imcludimg the players : Utah arguably gets franchise player and can build around him; Tampa rejuvenates, which they need if they want to stay a contender, and frees some cap space to keep adding; Sergachev finally becomes a #1 d-man; JJ Moser gets to play for a team that should still make the playoffs, which has to be exciting
Agreed guentzel is now with Tampa. Most likely going to sign a 7 year deal. It give Tampa flexibility to improve their bottom 6 to. I wouldn’t be shocked if Tyler Johnson comes back to Tampa. Play on their 3rd line again
Its so brutal that Tampa received back arguably less than a third of what they gave to acquire Jeannot and that less of a third is still considered an overpayment. Still a vet, a first, third and 5th round pick deficit from acquiring and then trading away that guy.
Cal Foote was a negative asset. He had that Rape trial going on and I think Brisebois really wanted to get rid of him. He also isn't very good at the NHL level.
i mean the way i view it is that we basically gave up a 1st and a 3rd for 2 years of jeannot being a rental. did it work out? no. but a first and a 3rd for a rental isnt crazy
I get it, Brisebois did a magic trick recuperating assets for Jeannot, now it looks less bad. It makes me think of the Dubois trade being seen as a major W for the Kings GM who did the massive error of trading the farm for him in the first place and signed that massive horrible contract as well. At least Brisebois traded magic beans instead of established NHL players so there is a chance they all flop, that would be tragic for the Preds, like you failed to develop 5 different picks that you got from trading one of your best young asset at the time that wasn’t developing well … yikes.
It will be interesting if Trouba is signed whether that means the Ghost walks. Wings are still rumored to go after Kane or Stamkos. The Wings know that likely 15-16 million will be tied up with Raymond and Seider.
I didn’t love the Holtz deal at first but if we were only ever going to have him on the 4th line, we might as well have someone who is actually fit for a 4th line role
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it Holtz as the or one of the main piece(s) for a Saros trade back at the deadline and now this is the return for Holtz?
The Caps had more than just Lindgren on contract after the Darcy Kuemper trade, they also had Hunter Shepard and Clay Stevenson on contract. Shepard actually got called up a few times when Darcy was out with injury. Most Caps fans anticipated Shepard to come in and slot in as Lindgren's backup after going back to back in Hershey. Though I did think that Brian MacLellan did very well with all the moves made today.
Good job on the trades and breaking them down. I think many of these moves made sense for both sides and I can see them working out. I'm not sold Tanev is the answer for the Leafs, but we'll see. If it ends up being a 4 or 5 year deal, it will not age well. I see injuries in his future.
That Holtz deal could be a steal for Vegas, very curious from the Devils' viewpoint. Sergachev has had such horrible luck with injuries, I hope he finally is healthy in Utah.
Wow there is no way Holtz and Schmid couldn’t have gotten better returns.. I feel like if Holtz could have at least gotten consistent 3rd line minutes he could easily get 20+ goals and 50+points. Schmid didn’t even play that terribly last season (Devils defence was awful) and he was amazing 22-23. Devils better be planning something big or it just doesn’t make sense..
A few things on Vegas's trades. Logan Thompson requested a trade, nto out of bad blood but for a bigger role and GM McCrimmon told him as he woke up that he'd been traded. Still a champ for staying back and signing autographs and I'm still upset he's gone. Regarding the NJ Devils deal, Akira Schmid will be the 3rd stringer, as announced by the GM.
I think the Kings wanted a player to bolster their physicality because I don’t see Englund playing for them next year since the D room is crowded. Probably banking he improves his number and is someone that replaces the 4th line grundstrom role and with the younger players coming up as well. Roy and Arvidson are not returning and Lewis/Englund probably don’t either
Man.. as a Detroit fan..wtf are we doing right now? I'm whelmed with our draft, but the trade of Walman with 53rd overall this year, for NHL legend Future Considerations really got me puzzled. Maybe Walman liked one of Yzerman's daughters' Instagram posts. 🤷I suppose that's worth the one-way ticket across the country.
Walman was a healthy scratch during the stretch run as the Wings tried to make a final push for the playoffs. Something must have happened behind the scenes for Walman to burn the bridge.@@DerpDerpityDerp

Tanev i have a very different opinion. I like him as a player but he`s getting 35 next season, depending on the deal he might become a really bad contract if he wants to get term & money. If it`s a 2 year deal around 4m that`s alright, but if it`s longer or more it might not be good. Tanev has played tons of hockey, very physical and blocked 1000 shots in his career, there will be a time when he has to pay the toll for that. And it`s very likely this toll will come during his next contract.
Kinda sad that we never saw Arizona spending their like 20 second round picks. We now saw on one day how much you could do if you are allowed to spend with those assets.
It was clear that Utah would make some moves for D. They had tons of picks, but not a single D men signed. They got Sergachev, great deal but expensive. Moser is a good player, and Geekie was a 1st rounder with a big body. I actually heared rumors that Utah might take Nurse from the Oilers or Trouba from the Rangers. Trouba to DET is a hot rumor now, which i can`t really make sense of. They have Seider, Holl and Petry. One of these guys has to go if Truba comes. Sergachev - if he can emerge as a leader of a D, Utah made a great move. But i`m not sure if Sergachevs contract is like the one for Nurse - 2nd pair D for 1st pair money.
Man, from a flames fan I feel it is necessary to not underrate torontos tanev deal. Tanev is the most important player on the ice for most teams. When the flames had tanev on the ice it was a completely different game than without him. He is an animal and is a massive asset to any team, especially come playoffs
As a Devils fan, the way I look at it, is that the goalie we drafted in the second round for Marino, is as good, if not better than schmid. And Holtz moving was inevitable. However, with all the cap space they've been able to gain, they'd better make a big move via trade or free agency for a d man. The draft overall makes sense, with the caveat that they land a majo D Man
Wgat i mean is if they, at their current firm, werre kn the current team. As with sergachev and the habs or Hall with the oilers or forsling with vancouver.

I’m sad Sergy is gone, but I’m glad they cleared some cap space although it sucks the Stammer probably won’t come back but I seriously hope he goes to Detroit as they are one of my favorite teams besides Tampa. Plus a top 6 with Stammer, Kane, Larkin, Raymond, Debrincat, and Compher sounds deadly
@@planetcaravan2925 well you have to be a few years post career to be eligible for hall of fame, and since his body can’t take it anymore he hasn’t played for a few years and can’t anymore
Jeannot was an absolute disaster for TBL. Basically a year worth of picks for a bottom 6 player, signed him too expensive and now traded him for some picks that propably never result in anything. LAs 2nd rounder should be somewhere around 50....
So Washington traded a second round pick next year to get a winger who is much better than shipped a guy who would fight for 4th line minutes next year? Kind of feels like they just were able to acquire a great prospect a year before. The second round picks wash out but they got a much better winger for next year. For just a little extra cap. What’s the downside for them?

We have signed a decaying De Haan and re-signed Drouin, but will he deliver or start not giving a f-k once again? Rest of the signings are AHL-players
Today's trades were honestly wild, especially the Sergachev one. That caught me off guard.

The main takeaway from today is I feel absolutely AWFUL for people who were yotes fans. UHC might make the yoffs this year.

I hope Trouba gets traded right out of the league he's a scummy, dirty player.
Learn to pronounce "Vegas," please.
Calgary & Montreal won the draft
Avalanche nowhere to be found despite losing Landeskog (?) and Nichushkin (dont see a way back for him sfter what happened) and also needing a real good 2nd goalie that can compete with Georgiev. We have signed a decaying De Haan and re-signed Drouin, but will he deliver or start not giving a f-k once again? Rest of the signings are AHL-players
sergachev is good but not 8,5mil aav good wtf utah dumb
They're obviously banking on him being the player he was back in 22-23
