Really good to know that the older Blink 500 doesn’t let you separate both signals. That’s a complete deal breaker on the cheaper system right there. Btw. it’s funny that I end up commenting one of your tech videos after I used to watch a lot of your guitar stuff years ago. And here you are, making tech videos about film making, and here I am, working on my skills and kit for film making. Thanks mate! Helpful back then, helpful now! Cheers! :)
Hey bud, I have an issue with this pack and my camera (Sony a 6500). It seems either the mic or the camera is boosting the noise floor when no activity is present so the gain climbs up and when you start speaking youre over modulated. can't determine if this is the mic or the camera? Any ideas?
I wonder how well this would pick up the quality of an acoustic guitar while you're wearing the device! I'm looking in to this system for field recordings in scenic areas with music!
Yep. You have two mics so you can use one on the guitar and one for your voice. These are omni-directional mics and are designed to pick up a wide field of sound.
Thanks again Shane, for another perfect video. Thoughts on how it compares to the new Rode Wireless Go II? I still think the Saramonic is better-- why? For the switchable mic/line in. For VR gamers/streamers.... capturing game audio from a headset's headphone out, with a super-short aux cable, while capturing narration from a lav, is a godsend (not to mention being able to monitor everything via headphones, such as the game audio, while streaming). While the Wireless Go II has internal recording (excellent), I find the line input much more usable and practical.
This seems like a really compelling package - I'm just a bit concerned about how bright it is though. I'm looking for something with this feature set to compliment my older Sony URX-P2 UHF unit, although this Saramonic doesn't sound as dynamically wide or rich - which concerns me because at the end of the day, for all the features the Saramonic has, audio quality should after all be the primary metric it's measured on?
Great vid! Which do you prefer between the Saramonic Blink500 and the Hollyland 150? I am looking mostly for solid signal at around 15-20m with a small transmitter pack. Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks. A nice pack with inbuilt charger!! The preamp of GH5 is so bad that you dont get a real comparison in audio here on the pro-audio issues and the comparison on sound with Rode maybe should be done side by side on the same audio sources with a pro audio/field recorder but I think that is not the point here. It is easy to use, variablility and decent audio quality. And ypu can plug in a battrry operated whatever mic right? I will put this on my list when the time comes! Thanks.
Good job with the review. Man, those flies! I’m interested in what UHF systems you’ve compared to 2.4 GHz that don’t sound as good. My experience has been the opposite but that’s with much more expensive UHF tx/rx systems.
Good afternoon. Sorry for the noobie question but I’m just getting into content creation and trying to do my research but I may just be looking in the wrong place. Could I buy 2 sets of these units and use 4 mics simultaneously? I’m needing a set up I can use 3 or 4 mics at a time with a single camcorder.
Your sound has a lot of treble and still sounds white noise. Not bad at all but I think this devices compress the sound and they are metallic sound. Have you test with a dynamic (or shotgun) microphone in the minijack?
Yeah I totally agree - I've noticed this on other reviews as well. It sounds thin/bright and compressed - almost like a 96kbps mp3 track. Great features but I cant see this being used for high production value recordings.
Maybe a little late... Thanks for this nice review! But I did some measurements. It is bad, really bad. A lot of harmonic distortion above 1,25 KHz. Quantization noise is terrible. This is the cause of the ‘trebly’ and harsh sound. Combine this with 62,35 ms latency (almost 2 frames @ 30 FPS), the dropouts in real-world and uncontrolled situations (even at 5 meters), the lack a a decent level meter, the low gain range, plus the stupid paring issues, it is a definite NO GO for me. I did not expect professional level of quality, but this set is unusable imho. It’s a pity and shame, cause it has lots of potential and a great form factor. Saramonic has sent me a replacement set with new firmware (Tx v1.1.9), it still is a huge disappointment. I personally find it strange why a lot of reviewers focus on the range test instead of sound quality and latency. Rode Wireless Go II kills this set in every aspect.
If I got 2 of these kits and a splitter cable, could I record 4 microphones at once? Would there be any significant drawbacks? (I suppose I would only be able to control the audio for each system instead of for each of the 4 mics?).
@@JustifyJustin yea so far so good audio is good but also purchased the rode wireless go 2 its way better all around the recording feature is a game changer
Hello! Unfortunately, my recordings with my iphone 8 and the Blink 500 pro pick up a bunch of static. Is it possible that my lightning port is damaged and causing that hissing sound in my audio recordings?
I bought that model with the i phone reciever. Or is it transmitter. When I clicked to mute it didnt work. And has not worked since. That was nearly two years ago. I just put it away in a drawer and didnt think of it again till two weeks ago. I replaced the batteries since the thing didnt work. Id forgotten that. So went to a saramonic repairers in bangkok who two weeks ago said theyd check it out and be in touch. Not a word. Does anything or anyone at saramonic work ?

Did you have any problem With the Sound volume, evne though I set the gain to the maximum the output sound is really low
The latency is terrible, it's like listening to life in a spring reverb

Excellent review! I'm in the market for a new wireless duo and I think you tipped my opinion towards the Saramonic.
The Blink500 Pro is a great pack. It's still going strong after hundreds of uses.

Hi, is the sound immediately in sync with the video? Like when the camera records directly. Thank you!
Yes. If you hook it to the camera mic input it will be in sync.

I think the Saramonic had a wider frequency response with lowers being a little more present, much better
Great set. Purchased it recently. It is a great value for money.

Hello. Is there a big difference between the Saramonic B500 PRO and the regular B500 ? Is it worth $100 extra ?
The regular B500 doesn't have the screen and split L&R recordings. The regular one is very good quality-wise, but the pro is a better unit.
Under watch conditions would you need to film a subject that far away?
Its not always about max range. If the set can communicate at that range, is less prone to distord on closer ranges
You would never use it at max range.
Your sound has a lot of treble and still sounds white noise. Not bad at all but I think this devices compress the sound and they are metallic sound. Have you test with a dynamic (or shotgun) microphone in the minijack?
It probably has to do with the camera. The noise gate of some cameras are really high. Not necessarily the mic.

Great review on the saramonic mics. I will be getting this model soon. I’m so excited.

Just ordered mine thanks for the informative video
How it going? Do you have to clean the audio in post or do you find it good enough?

Is the lav mic able to disconnect from the clip? Useful if you needed to place the mic on either the left or right side of a jacket
You have the option of using or not using the lav mic with this unit as the transmitter itself has a mic installed in it.

Thanks for the review. I think my channel needs one of these. The cable mic has become a pain 😀
I have a problem with the headphone output. What kind of headphones did not connect - it is very quietly audible. Although the volume is 6/6.
I wish they used a separate battery like a gopro I don't use them a ton but you can't use let it sit any long length of time
why does not the units have USB C charging ?! but a USB DC 5v? makes no sense, just need another old cable...
Yeah, thinking the same. I cannot stand those things. USB C is the new standard, why they would use old cords make no sense.
@@the_minimalistic_adventure they have usb C on the older versions... but on the new pro version..... it's a stepp back...
@@EchoTango Makes no sense. The USB C are the modern update. The USB DC ports wear out over time. I know they did on older cellphones that used them.
