I had the pleasure of working with Rick a couple of months ago, and spent nearly an hour chatting with him about concerts I had attended when I was a teenager, an absolute dream come true for me, at 53 years old and sitting with my hero, a rock legend, will never forget, ever.
As an Aussie living in London at the time I was privilaged to attend this concert. To this day it is still very vivid in my mind. To warm up the audience he played excerpts from Six Wives followed by the main feature which was performed on ice. Then for an encore he went into Journey to the centre of the earth. It was a late night and only one train was left at the station, it was packed Tokyo style. Great memories. Jack.
vermontcreekbed I saw this same show in Cols.,OH, I was in college there & I also remember the show vividly! I saw Rick a few years before when he was with Yes doing the Close To The Edge tour. What a great musician!
Rick Wakeman is the best and he's one of a kind. This has been one of my favourite albums since I was eight years old and discovered the LP amongst my much older siblings' music collection (which I still have - I must try to wrangle his autograph this fall). I am so glad to see footage of the original performance. Thank you Patrickillian for uploading this.
TENHO UM AMIGO, HOJE MORA EM NEW JERSEY, USA, PASSAVA HORAS E HORAS OUVINDO MR. WAKEMAN, NUNCA VI UM FÃ TÃO FANATICO, MAS O CARA É BOM, VAI TER AGILIDADE NAS MÃOS NA CONCHINCHINA.
This is Rick doing what he does best....being Grandiose.....and he can most definitely afford to be. I'm amazed that his mini-moogs stayed in tune!! And no need for the 400D Mellotron when you have a full choir!!
Arthur is the greatest album RW ever done, I think RW wouldn't be able to make such epic orchestra rock album if he stayed in Yes. I enjoyed this album, Journey, and The Six Wives more than anything made by Yes
I've met this guy a few times and can assure you Rick Wakeman is indeed a genuine and nice person. He inspired me so much it was he who made me go out and spend a lot of money on decent keyboards and learn to play. I;ve had to favurite this on the basis of it still being so absurd! LOL! Love him though.
I love this album. I had the original on 33 back in the day. Man I played that thing over and over. The late 1970's was a great time of Aurthurian / fantasy resurgence. Between this album, the movie Excalibur and the renewed interest in LOTR I was in heaven.
The album and the concerts were both well received, the concert was extremely expensive due to the required support cast. There were three shows at Wembley. The album went gold, his 3rd consecutive effort, not bad for an album that was "poorly received"
Saw Rick performing Myths and Legends at a jam packed Wolverhampton Civic Hall in '76- remember his massive tour bus parked outside with the Myths and Legends Logo on it!
That triple-neck bass was made by Wal for Roger Newell when he played in Rick Wakeman's English Rock Ensemble. A replica was made for Chris Squire which he used from 1977 until the last Yes tour in 2004. Squire only played it on the Yes song "Awaken".
Cresci c Back Schubert Bethoven Chopin ouvindo tudo isso... aí veio Beatles Stones Cream Dylan... fui show 1974, show da montanha, Três Pontas, Sul Minas.
Disliking his music is up to you, but there's no reason to dislike Rick himself. If you did some research about Rick you'd find that he's a really nice guy with a good sense of humor. Not only that, nearly every penny he's ever earned has gone back into music. That's why he's gone bankrupt several times to the point where he had to sleep on park benches because he didn't have enough money to pay his bills. Music is that important to him. So if you don't respect his music at least respect him.
Wakeman was a true pioneer. The stuff he was doing "back in the day" was sure making maximum use of the available technology. To this day, I still don't hear anything as cool as what him and Emerson were doing in the early 70's.
Back then such extravagant live performances were horrendously difficult to get the sound to balance. The singers were on the original recording. Very competent, but I doubt if they could hear themselves over everything else. Remember this was ground breaking stuff back in the 70's.
What's funny about this isn't the video, it's the "this is why punk was invented" argument. Punk is like college: you rebel, become like all the others who rebel (now you're no different) and then you grow-up (like almost everyone does) and move on. I know plenty of "punk rockers" who now run internet companies and we still have our tattoos! If I wanted to listen to Pink Floyd I will and when I want to listen to Rick , I do. That's why I have more than one CD!
@westpalmscott The album and the concerts were both well received, the concert was extremely expensive due to the required support cast. There were three shows at Wembley. The album went gold, his 3rd consecutive effort, not bad for an album that was "poorly received"
Although I really enjoy stretching the limits, I'll admit that some of it can get a bit 'overblown', as you put it. It was good to get back the roots of rock from the punk era. But, then MTV and corporate got ahold of music, and its last gasp was grunge. I haven't seen much of anything worth listening to ever since.

Hugely envious. On both accounts. Wow.

Agreed! I too thing so!
This is complete nonsense.

the best keyboardist ever man what a talent
I remember black lights and bongs burning through the night up in the attic... mesmerized to this album and Journey to the Centre. Amazing stuff.

Cresci c Back Schubert Bethoven Chopin ouvindo tudo isso... aí veio Beatles Stones Cream Dylan... fui show 1974, show da montanha, Três Pontas, Sul Minas.
@legrandp Just how does this "shit suck?" This is a phenomenal piece of music and a great album.
Everything is better on ice! Ice fishing, rock and roll, ice skating, the list goes on!
What a masterpiece performance! I wish it remastered on dvd!!!!

This video is fantastic. I haven't laughed so much in ages.
bravo ,bravissimo Rick
Fantastic footage he brought keyboards to the forefront in the 70s,its easy to look back and ridicule IF YOU WERE NOT THERE at the time.
rick is nr one in keyboards, is magic, is best, tks martaled

@WillShakespeare2007 , a mistake , he played with Jon Anderson, not Ian Anderson
Ah, the good ol' days, when music was also art & not just 'entertainment'
Hermoso! Thanks Rick!
I like listening to this while on the freeway, on my way home.

Very Good 😃
Hello kind sirs, has anyone among you have the chance to upload this melody but in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's version? Thank you!
I was at one of these concerts!
whoa....6:04 whats up with that triple neck fretted/fretless bass/guitar thing...??? enquiring Rick 4080 owners want to know :)
As much as I liked this back then (I was 15) Alan O'Kelly is right. This stuff did necessitate punk rock.
Totally right!
Best ever
Bravo !
