Thank you so much for the video. It really helped. I just started airbrushing and I had seen how nice Tamiya clear could be on a model but I wasn't sure about airbrushing it. Keep up the great work.
I normally put Gloss > Decals > More Gloss > Weathering > Matt Varnish. If you dont intend to weather I guess you could probably do the Matt coat directly after the Decals. I would personally do another gloss coat anyway, just so that when you put the Matt coat on its going onto a consistent finish, in case it reacts differently to the decal, than it does to the gloss coat.
@@petervano6109 Ive never used revell varnishes sorry, I always stick to Tamiya. Ive used aquacolour colours to paint models and its good, but it will need thinning as its quite thick. I prefer Tamiya or Mr Colour though.
Thanks I will try that Revell colors and varnishes, of course with thinner. Again thanks for replying. May I ask you sometimes when I am not sure with something?
Good vid. Can you say what size needle and what psi/bar you were running? Also, was it humid or dry? Those are important aspects of gloss coats as well.
Thanks very much. Its a 0.4ml needle, H&S Ultra. I'm somewhat ashamed to say I don't pay too much attention to the PSI. Relatively high pressure to make sure it sprays well, but then not strong that its blowing ripples in the paint.
Great stuff, DemonJedi. I can't get a good X-22 coat as much as I try. It probably has to do with using X-20a instead of MLT. Unfortunately, due to my spraying area, I need to stick with less toxic stuff. Enjoyed the video, and have now subscribed!
Thanks, I used to use X-20a as well, definately get a better result with MLT. Agree with you about the fumes though, I need to get a spray booth but thankfully my desk is 3 feet below a skylight window so can ventilate easily!
yeah id avoid this method with the x20a it will destroy your model haha, not sure how tamiya passed it to be used to x20a. MLT or tamiya lacquer thinner works 100000x better
Hii, excuse my ignorance! If you don't mind answering, did you ever tried the X-35 semi gloss? I'm considering purchasing it, but I don't know how the finish actually is... I'm looking for a similar finish to X-22, but I can't find it in my country... Thought that X-35 would be the closest, but sadly I couldn't find much info on it 😕
@@demonjedigaming6531 Thank you for answering! I ended up buying T-35 and it worked better than I expected. 2 layers and I got the glossy finish I wanted, I struggled at first using it because it dries differently and way faster than X-22 so it can leave a bit of a texture, now it's working well for me! 😄
Gloss> Decals> More gloss ← about the process, do I have to wait for each layer to dry for each step? Or can I follow that process right then and there? I'm new
Just noticed I never heard "decals" pronouns with a British accent. It would be "dee-cals" here. Anyway thanks for the video, just about to clearcoat a Cr.42 myself
Oh okay i didn't know next one I'll buy and use air brush when I start my thing thinks and I got 3d printer now thank you i won't use regular brush then I'm starting to make too

Nice quick tutorial man, your tips will help me lots for when I clear coat my Heller Concorde. Thank you!
Very nice video!!! Does the use of MLT “erase” the preshading etc ? Because its a little bit “hot” thinner
So apply a gloss clear coat AFTER any work (paint or decals) to seal it in, then matte clear coat as the VERY last step?
Can I Use just x20A thinner with x22 ?
What psi do you recommend when spraying tamiya clears?
👍👍👍
Hey do you apply it relatively thick or thin like your spraying paint and layer it up?
Just want to ask. Is it good to apply gloss varnish over the paint, than put decal on with softening solution and cover it all in matt varnish?

And is Revell varnish good, (32101gloss and 32102matt). I havent seen anybody using them. I am beginner and I am gonna do airbrush for the first time.

Change Tamiya X2 to Tamiya X-22 in title. This may affect on search.

X-35 is great but definitely not going to give the shiny gloss finish that you get with x-22

Nice! What kit is that? 48th scale?
I want to do a 48th TFX w/ that nose🤗
Hi, thats the Tamiya 48th scale, lovely kit
Do these varnishes protect the colours and decals etc from sunlight and UV?
A little late, but Mr Hobby GX112 and 113 have UV protection. Thin with equal part MLT
Gloss> Decals> More gloss ← about the process, do I have to wait for each layer to dry for each step? Or can I follow that process right then and there? I'm new
Yeah, give it 24hrs minimum between each step.
May i ask if it possible to apply the coat by brush?
Yes, though dont need to thin it as much
Where's the tutorial on doing this with a brush?
How many parts of thinner vs x22? Rate of psi? Thanks a lot
50/50 I’d say about 14psi
@@DavidJohnson-kb8sr thank you so much
Can you thin with x20a?
You can do yeah, but I find you get a much better finish with MLT

You don't really need air brush for it but can use a brush
brush can strip the base coat...happens to me and others

Deckles 😂😂😂
So you gloss clear it before the decals and washes correct?, then you clear flat coat it?
Gloss, decal, gloss again once the decals are set for a few day or a week, then wash, then flat coat
