It's always annoyed me how Rhys treats you with contrite respect for one single conversation the first time you talk to him after destroying the Institute but then immediately goes right back to being a rude jerk the next time you talk to him.

That's why I always go straight to the Old North Church when I start a new game. It's fun watching Deacon so clueless. Also I like how knowing the password to the secret door without having to follow the Freedom Trail makes Desdemona super-suspicious... but then she lets you into the Railroad anyway. I almost feel bad for them whenever I wipe them out as part of the Brotherhood. Almost.

I didn't even notice the letters on the ground when following the trail. I just spammed each button until I hit "R" and it clicked. Then I instantly realized the stupid password was Railroad.
They should have been more cleaver and added on more decoders rings and made it a phrase also made the rings more a rotate stick/mouse instead of tap to turn.
They are called the Railroad, their base is part of the Underground Railroad you follow a historical trail for the Underground Railroad Their password is Railroad The fact that the institute didn't find them right away is sad.

Coursers can defect too, but it is much harder for them. Coursers isn't just a printed clone with control chip in their skull, those guys are enhanced all over with same bionics as Kellogg was using, they're full blown cyborgs. Who are very heavily brainwashed, are dangerous and carry a lot of sensitive info normal synths would have no access to. You see where I am going with this? I can bet Coursers have literal killswitches in them as well as surveillance equipement in their bionics(ie Institute sees and hears all the Courser does and can pull he switch any second), not just recall codes that "mesmetrons" their brains. So as you can guess, there is a reason there is only 2(4 if we count cut content and theories) defected Coursers. They can't just run away and hide like normal synths do.
Deacon alludes to a bunch of cut quests here. "Here there be monsters" implies that there would have been an underwater vault included, and there's references to one in the game files. Also, allusions to a "brokered peace" in Salem, which means there was meant to be more up there than Barney Rook's little thing.
When I started playing I kept waiting for something else to happen in Salem. It seemed like a big place with a lot of details to only be used for one side quest. I also hoped it could be used as a settlement location.

Funny thing - I actually did. I never found any info about that on wiki, so I assume it may be a bug or a mod conflict... But after, like, 80-100 quests Preston just stopped giving those. I don't know if it was intended or not, but... Yeah, I finally helped all the Commonwealth
I had no idea what was in store for me when I saved Preston. I left the vault desperate, confused and with no friends. I was given a quest to help people and met a friendly dude who put me on track to find my son. Little did I know I was easy picking to be taken full advantage of and sucked into his agenda
I really want to believe it just plays all of these. I'm sure it selects several at random or has some priority system to it, but I really want to believe Deacon just spends the next hour recounting every small little thing you've done in the Commonwealth, with Desdemona occasionally cutting in to try to stop him to no avail.

Coursers can defect too, but it is much harder for them. Coursers isn't just a printed clone with control chip in their skull, those guys are enhanced all over with same bionics as Kellogg was using, they're full blown cyborgs. Who are very heavily brainwashed, are dangerous and carry a lot of sensitive info normal synths would have no access to. You see where I am going with this? I can bet Coursers have literal killswitches in them as well as surveillance equipement in their bionics(ie Institute sees and hears all the Courser does and can pull he switch any second), not just recall codes that "mesmetrons" their brains. So as you can guess, there is a reason there is only 2(4 if we count cut content and theories) defected Coursers. They can't just run away and hide like normal synths do.

Also, allusions to a "brokered peace" in Salem, which means there was meant to be more up there than Barney Rook's little thing.
When I started playing I kept waiting for something else to happen in Salem. It seemed like a big place with a lot of details to only be used for one side quest.
