- Just want to specify a couple of things.
1) At 8:08 it's Hamburg and not Munich
2) I wrote "1st or 2nd night" just in case I used both of the nights this video. For the others, I used:
The 1st night for Cologne and Fukuoka
The 2nd night for Leiden.
This video took me a lot of time to make so I hope you like it.
This is the 4th video of a series I have here on my channel (I have already done this for Magic, works and Crazy tour so if you haven't already, check them out).
In this video I'm showing you Freddie Mercury's vocal range in the Hot Space tour, from the 9th of April to the 3rd of November of the year 1982.
This tour was very long and tiring for the band and because of this their performances were getting worse and worse as the tour progressed: The shows were getting shorter, the vocals were getting weaker and the band was getting sloppier.
Anyways, in my opinion, the Tokorozawa gig is too hated and because of this I also included, at the end of the video, some of the highlights of the show. (Notice the amazing drum fill at 11:50 and how much fun the band is having in the last clip, especially freddie at 13:10)
TIMESTAMPS:
Lowest note (D3): 0:27
Chest voice high Notes (Ab4 - D5): 1:01
Falsetto high notes (up to a C6): 8:42
Whistle register high notes (up to an Ab6): 9:26
Summary: Pause at 10:23
Tokorozawa Highlights: 11:03
#Queen #FreddieMercury
2:51 the tone, perfect.
I agree
Legendary vocalist! It's amazing to see his powerful vocals live! even though he doesn't have vocal care. He drank and smoked a lot but did not lose his virtuosity and potency.
Actually he didn't smoke. In every interview you see him having a cigarette which was just because he needed something in his hands. Watch how he smokes during interviews. Not really an expert to say the least.
@@hankthefarmer4433 Huh, ofcourse he smoked...
@@ThorSuzuki1 Lot's of people around him including Paul Prenter, Jim Hutton and other have said that he mostly had them in his hand to play with, smoking them almost never over the lungs. I think it's stated in the book by Jim Hutton
@@ThorSuzuki1 He didn't really smoke. He, I don't know what you call it, sucked in with his mouth but didn't actually inhale it.
The amount of effort and research that goes into these videos is amazing. Keep it up :))
the Bb4s in the first verse of Bohemian Rhapsody on this tour undoubtedly sound the most energetic of all time, almost as powerful as those on the Magic Tour
10:52 Checkmate Tokorozawa 1982 haters
Love this video and the live versions of the Hot Space songs. I think due to the lukewarm reception of the album, the band went overboard trying to blow people away with the Hot Space songs live, hence Freddie really going for it with the roaring high notes
Yeah, all the hot space songs sound much better live. The Euro leg was incredible for Freddie's voice, I wouldn't say so for the other two. Still good though
The Hot Space songs are also just hard as fuck to sing, lot of B4s-C#5s
Action this day best hot space song. Change my mind
Fr action this day and back chat are bangers live
Staying Power is a big contender, at least the really good versions are. I actually quite like the album version as well, which is apparently an unpopular opinion.
@@BenMurphy-go2ks Yes, staying power is a good song as well, both live and studio version. One that I don't really like is "put out the fire"
@@rickysld you dont like Put Out the Fire, thats my favorite song D: i also like Dancer and Cool Cat
Hey finally somebody thinks action this day is the best song on Hot Space
Before watching this: i better see wurzburg in here.
Edit: im satisfied, finally i see someone give wurzbrug the respect it deserves, however why didnt you include the C5 in Dragon Attack from there.
Also THANK YOU for giving tokorozowa the resect it deserves, freddie was unstable but not WEAK like many people think at that show, in fact he was quite strong throughout the show.
Yeah, when Freddie’s voice holds together at Tokorozawa, it actually works very well, like the fact he sustains the A4 ‘fighting’ on WATC is ridiculous when he had last done that at Montreal on the US leg (may be wrong on that), just a shame his voice has other plans after that.
EDIT: Freddie also sustains the A4 “fighting” at Toronto.
This show is better than any Zurich show from any year you take
@@happylemming6343 I will contest, Zurich 78, 79, and the 1st ‘82 shows are actually pretty good, even if the singing is a bit rough, the band play far better, where Tokorozawa features the break-neck speeds on songs which is common of that part of the HS tour.
@@BenMurphy-go2ks I was quite unstable and weak because it was the end of a very long tour
His voice decalmed the works tour so much because his technique was bad for such a tight schedule.
In the Magic I don't know why, but his technique was far better, and he held up quite well on the Magic tour with his exceptions.
Seeing Freddie at 11:09 without his microphone stand extremely odd.
The ending jamn session having fun and simply rockn was AMAZING!!!♥️
THIS IS THE BEST THING I'VE EVER HEARD. Thank you very much for doing it. FREDDIE MERCURY, I WILL DO EVERYTHING I CAN TO SHARE IT GENERATION AFTER GENERATION!!!. 💪👍👏😊
ESTO ES LO MEJOR QUE HE ESCUCHADO. Muchas gracias por hacerlo. ¡¡¡FREDDIE MERCURY, HARÉ TODO LO QUE PUEDA PARA COMPARTIRLO GENERACIÓN TRAS GENERACIÓN!!!.👏❤️💪🤗
I actually think Euro Hot Space Tour was vocally even better than Crazy Tour.
I just love Freddie's voice and tone
It's hard for me to decide if it's better. On the Crazy Tour Freddie was daring on nearly every song, while on the Euro he's daring on less songs in comparison. Like, compare Somebody To Love and Save Me between tours and the Crazy Tour versions beat them out, but songs like Action This Day and Staying Power are fucking crazier than some of the vocals on The Crazy Tour. I think it's more of a preference as to whether you prefer insane vocals on about half the songs to excellent vocals on most songs if that makes any sense.
Somptueux merveilleux travail un immmmmennn’se MERCI 🙏 c’est attachant plein de bons souvenirs remplis de BEAUTÉ merci de cet hommage grandiose Freddie LA LÉGENDE
It’s so weird how Freddie’s vocal prime Ends right after MK
he changed his vocal technique during the break after MK. He in Montreal is putting so much pressure on chest notes during the concert that he can't climb to higher notes. he actually started the show asking Bryan to lower the key on Rock It and he made a "Magic Tour" belting in "thaaaAAAat rock'n roll" part.
whats mk
Milton Keynes concert, on June the 5th, 1982.
@@t0ni._.052 This concert your watching right now
Freddie Mercury is a great voice. Magnificent
Euro Hot Space = all Bb4s first verse on Borhap
6:41-6:44
I thing it's the only time he's ever done that(3 C5's in the same place)
Check out the game tour vocal range. He also did that...
@@luiseliendo2007 which show and song?
@@kilgore1863 Dragon Attack Live at Frankfurt 1980.
Tokorozawa has good moments i can't believe it, nothing is worse than japan jazz tour concerts
Freddie,beautiful,lovly great singer ,fantastik vocalist))))))😘🌹
FREDDIE MERCURY ETERNO SHOW saudades é maravilhoso 🎤🎹🎼♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
My favorite 80s tour!
Now I'm Here to Dragon Attack is fantastic, I don't know how anyone can not like Tokorozawa show
Becuase Freddie has pool voice :)
Also now I’m here too dragon attack was literally on the whole tour
That whole medley is really great
Thank you for 300 subs btw
Now you need 400 subs!
Looking forward to them ;)
Thats alright girl you deserve more subs
@@thepacmanface3815 who are you talking to?

Он великий музыкант и певец! Я преклоняюсь перед ним! Браво!!!!!!!!
My favorite video of yours so far.
Dude I never thought you'd continue this series, if this series ended I hope you actually make a full compilation of the complete vocal range of Freddie Mercury. If you want to, also could you make a game tour vocal range? It's up to you
Sorry for my terrible grammar I'm not really fluent
Also didn't expected that Freddie was amazing in Hot space tour
I'll get to it someday. I'll prob do Game tour next, but I'll take a little break now.
@@rickysld sounds fair enough! You deserve it my dude!
@@rickysld stay safe there dude have fun on your break
@@sub-ne8qv he sang amazingly during the european Hot Space tour. if you exclude the inconsistent concerts for 9th April to 20th April, basically all concerts show a Freddie singing better than ever.
I think it got worse cause the reception towards the Hot Space album, the band were fighting a lot because of it, you can see it really show in the NA Hot Space Tour. The UK leg was there best leg in the 80’s musically and vocally, I think Japan would have better if they were in a better mood, but lowkey losing the US really made them lose interest and almost broke up the band.
Not only UK but for me Euro leg (April-June) is the best leg of 80s
I think cause why Euro leg is the best leg of 80s perhaps from successful of greatest hits album and under pressure
It is worth pointing out the great importance of Roger to help Freddie with some songs!
This is about freddies vocal range not roger's, but indeed that your idea is worth doing on a video. Maybe someday ill ask Ricardo for a video totally aimed at contemplating roger's vocal. Meanwhile i totally satisfied with his services to the queen fandom and i think you should too. All in good time fella!
Milton Keynes is the best 80s show for me!
THIS IS SO WELL DONE MY MAN
incredible
♥️I LOVE HIM ALL FREDDIE ♥️ EVERYTING SONGS IT'S BEAUTIFUL

Great performances vocals
Потрясающе прекрасный , люблю тебя ! ! !
8:08 was Hamburg, not Munich.
Fuck. I always have to screw up something 😒
Thanks for letting me know, I'll put that in the description
fantástic video!! one thing: so when do you consider the band start to not having fun anymore? Thanks!!
Alright, so, there are some shows in the American leg that aren't really that great for them so yeah, they weren't always in the best mood. Anyways I feel like the band started to play the shows just because they have to in mid works.
@@rickysld any specific shows that you remember for this reason? Heard that maybe East Rutherford can be?

@@rickysld quick to reply
Hey Ricky, in your opinion the best Hammer to Fall on the Magic Tour?
1st Vienna
@@rickysld And im sorry again, Whats the Best Tie your Mother down on the magic tour awell
1st Leiden or Stockholm. My favorite version is 1st Wembley though.
2nd Leiden is good as well, it's got a nice C5 and Knebworth's got a very powerful A4 at the end.
The magic tour is a fun tour for that song, most of the versions are amazing.
I don't understand why the "throughs" of the first verse of Bohemian Rhapsody are out of tune (if sung with Bb4 phrasing) in any version of the Hot Space tour
Guess we're not getting the works OR the magic tour.
1:33 the version of 2669 that worked
I saw them in Philly, Billy Squire opened for them....AMAZING BAND, SQUIRE WAS EXCELLENT TOO.
Those A4’s in NIH 😩
Yo tengo una duda ¿Apareció en conciertos europeos portando nuestro sombrero de charro? Por fis ayuda
Why was this tour SO LONG? Don’t they understand that Freddie’s godlike voice also needs rest?
8:21 definitely no D5 there, C#5.
5:47 it's Hamburg again😂
Fuck
I screwed all the locations up
@@rickysld it is not that the entire video was screwed up
In any case, just put a correction in the description when you have time
I’m pretty sure I already did it at the time
You forgot C#7 and D7 vocals on the hot space tour
Where are they?
There are some mistakes. Many A4 are in fact Ab4, for example play the game song. It can’t be A4. Maybe the poor quality of some recordings are to blame...
Play the game doesn't have Ab4 in its key
in live in ediburgh : C#7 xd
live at the budokai :B6
sapporo :G6
live in madinson square : B6-A6
live in lil"te saint denis : D7 xd
3:38 A4/Ab4/A4
Ora me lo pappo
Hahahah ok
3:37 what song is this?
It's "Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together)"
I'm no the biggest fan of hot space tour but 7:25 this is a big middle finger to newcastle 79
and then you hear glasgow
@@thepacmanface3815 it's also a middle finger to glasgow
@@Jdud. ok but newcastle and glasgow does middle finger to cologne with those carry on!
@@thepacmanface3815 in that yes
But the C5 in Colonge is ridiculously strong
What is the difference between a G4 and an AB4?
G4 is one semitone below Ab4
@@max101victory Im sorry, G#4 and an AB4
G#4 and A♭4 are the same note with different nomenclatures, the same for B♭4 and A#4
@@max101victory no, it's just a half tone, not even a one note higher than a G4
@@CookieFXTM12 Ah ok, B#4? Cb5?
D3 is quite the high note for the lowest of the entire tour
I know, a D3 is not low at all. Anyways, Freddie doesn't usually sing low. Idk why
When he worked with Montserrat Caballe, she asked him to sing in his natural baritone range (high end of the 2nd octave and low end of the 3rd octave, like the beginning of the golden boy) but he replied to her that it was not the way he sang and that he wasn't even sure if his fans would recognise him. I guess he just didn't want to sing low for some reason. He sounded good anyways though
@@rickysld I'll tell you the secret to why Freddie didn't like to sing low at all.. He was actually a tenor.
While he could go down to a bass baritone low F2 his voice would only get really big above F#4, which is typical for tenors, a baritones voice (like my own) gets big around D#4 which is a 3 semitones down. Also if Freddie was truly a baritone with a 4 octave range he couldve gone down to atleast D2 in chest (source: I'm a baritone with a relatively big range and can go down to A#1 in chest, also look at baritones like David Bowie and Elton John for example)
Fred could sing in the baritone range, but the lower end would lose power, tho you see him go down to G2-B2 on most tours
My lowest note is C#2 and I start to struggle with E4s, a D#4 is already on the high end for me. I never went past a G4 in chest voice (even though it's not pure chest voice bc it all resonates in the head and I have to support it with a lot of breath). Watching it from my pov, yes, I can say that I struggle much less with low notes than Freddie does, so I would call him a Tenor as well. Anyways I think that his voice became more "baritonish" in the works tour (especially in those Milan gigs). If you watch my works and magic tour vocal range videos you can see that the lowest note on those tours are respectively A2 (for the Magic tour) and G2 (for the works tour) so I would say that in that period he was an high baritone.
Anyways, Montserrat Caballé (which knows definitely much more than me about singing) called him a baritone so idk
@@rickysld a persons voicetype doesnt change while their range and tone can. Especially if they are already older
9:26 *Mariah Carey triggered*
Tokorozawa is still bad show however
