Great idea on the solar panel I need to get one. I bought a YM2000 with a loader a few years ago that was not running because it had been sitting in the rain for years and water got down the exhaust destroying the valve seats in the head. The cylinders have removable sleeves and a local shop rebuilt the head for me so I was able to rebuild the engine in place using parts from the place in Texas. These tractors were designed to be completely rebuilt in the middle of a rice paddy and are so easy to work on compared to a modern tractor. Don't buy the cheap eBay starters as they have a very small motor inside driving a planetary gear reduction to the main gear. With a real starter it's my most reliable vehicle because there are no electronics and switches preventing you from starting it. How did I ever get along without one? You didn't mention the lever you stomp on with your right heel that locks the differential when you get in a sandy or muddy place which I prefer to the 4 wheel drive models for simplicity. Thanks for a great video.
Great video with solid detail. I am strongly considering a Yanmar for a small garden tractor. I really appreciate their simplicity, reliability and affordability.
I've had my YM2200 for 24 years and used it for everything, mowing, bushogging , moving dirt ect. It has been great. The exhaust was noisey but I found a fix. Unbolt the muffler, rotate it 120 degrees forward, it has a three-bolt flange. The get a 90-degree exhaust pipe at the auto parts with a generic glass pac muffler and install crossways on top of the front bumper. Exhaust noise is out in front of you and mine is as quiet as my neighbors new Kubota
@@steve_n_utahthediyguy9263 It came with a brush hog and for the size it has quite a bit of power. Done some brush hog work for a friend and she got hot so I took it and flushed the radiator with white vinegar running it off and on for a day then flushed with water several times, treated with a commercial flush. Changed engine oil and filters, new fuel filter housing, fuel injection pump, alternator, starter and a good washing with Super Clean. Little tractor runs great. Just needs a little love. This one came with the original deep bar tires they used for rice fields and such I suppose. Needs new ones due to dry rot but still hold air. Anyway, thanks again.
MrRain, it sounds like you’re doing all the right things to reduce the overheating problem. I would recommend putting a aftermarket radiator overflow bottle. These can be purchased from Carquest or O’Reilly. They really help., my biggest problem with the brush hogging is the radiator screen getting clogged with dry material. Out here the rabbit brush have a cotton like seed that all Jam your radiator screen and stop airflow. You could try putting a piece of screen over the front of the engine cowling. It’s easier to clean off and you see the problem it more readily. I do know that severe overheating is a tractor killer. It’s easy to overheat and blow a head gasket, and they never quite the same after that.
@@steve_n_utahthediyguy9263 Thanks for the feedback. Oh yeah, it was boiling loke mad! I do have a stock over flow bottle on the tractor. You are right about restricted air flow. When I brought it home I washed all the blooming thistle off. Had not realized the problem until we took a closer look. The Wood-Mizer mill has the same issue with my Yanmar diesel. I make it a habit to take a blower to the radiator after running. I was grateful that the motor seems fine and still runs great. Thinking of installing a thermostat that shows the temperature instead of just the light. I suppose if the little machine could it would have flashed a brighter light at me. It really is in good shape. Just needs some cosmetics now.
Nice rundown on this tractor. I have owned a YM2210D for 25+ years, and all it has done is perform. I currently have a 3pt stump grinder attached to it, the multiple gear ratios along with the various PTO speeds make this the best tractor out of the 6 that I own for stump grinding. My tractor is all bent to hell as I have asked it to do much more than it was designed to do, along with a tree falling on it when stored in the woods, but it still performs extremely well. My other tractors all have power steering, that is one thing I would change on the 2210D, especially when working it a full day. (mine has a FEL too). Thanks for this video!
Hi Jeff, thanks for the comments. Your spot on… they’re awesome little tractors for what they were designed for. Like you, I ask mine to do way more than it should have. I Right now, I have a PTO driven 4 inch irrigation pump, and it’s a perfect match for the power and the fuel consumption. Even when she’s running hard it’s only about 1 1/2 L per hour. so for every gallon Of Diesel, I get three hours of pumping. That’s a big deal these days with the price of fuel.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I bought a definitely used YM 135D 36 years ago. Almost idiot proof. Tiny but still strong and handy. I have since bought a YM 226D, a Fredricks rebuilt YM 2210B (with power steering), a YM 1301D w/Koyker loader (also small, but good for many jobs). Got my eye on a YM 186D with a belly mower for rough terrain mowing, soon I hope. The original YM 135 is my work horse for so many jobs. Not a farm tractor, but a useful tool. Thanks again.
Great info Stanley! Thanks fir the comments. The Old Yanmar’s just seem to keep working and working! It all depends on the previous owners usage and maintenance. There are gems and also lumps of coal on the market!
I've had 6 Yanmars over the years. Fixed and flipped 4 and kept 2: Yanmar 2310 and a John Deere 1250 (made by Yanmar in the 1980's). Love them both: why I didn't flip them. Just painted the 2310:see video's. If you have a Yanmar Hoye Tractor is the place for parts.
What a great video for those of us looking at or who own the YM2200. Would love to know what FEL brand you have on it. Also, I noticed that Hoye shows in their parts for this model a hydraulic oil filter and a clutch neutral safety switch. I can't seem to find either on my YM2200. Lastly, I was wondering if the PTO will run when the tractor is not moving: like using a PTO driven chipper? I haven't used my tractor since I got it as part of a house purchase. I replaced the clutch and PP and haven't used it since. Thanks for posting this vid.
Hi Chas, To answer a couple of questions my Yanmar has a apple manufacturing FEL. There’s no serial number or name plate. Just a couple of warning Stickers . But that front end loader was on the unit when I got it. seems to be a good match. Next the hydraulic filter, mine just has a screen you can open up and clean out. There’s no real commercial style filter. Last of all … yes! that Yanmar 2200 will run up PTO without moving. As a matter of fact, it’s doing it right now. I have it hooked up to a PTO driven 4 inch sigma 25 hp pump. Running a big gun in my pasture. I’ll try to put together a small video about it and leave you a link. It won’t be very slick but you’ll get an idea of what it looks like.
Sorry, No I don’t… there are no markings or logo on the front end loader. It was already mounted on this tractor when I bought it. ( possibly a factory option ?)
Sorry about that Bill, your correct. I live in a windy place at fairly high altitude. I would love to upgrade my A/V set-up and present a more professional package but I’m pretty much a low volume RUclips-er abs the $$$$ ain’t there. I’m posting videos with my smart phone to help out fellow DIY guys.
Hey Steve. I bought the same exact model a couple years ago. I love mine, it’s perfect for a lot of my needs. There is a T handle that turns located directly under the seat. What does this adjustment do ? Anyone know ?
I believe that t-handle is the hydraulic bleed off rate. So basically, when you take hydraulic pressure off the system, it’s how long it takes for that pressure to dissipate. Rotating that T-handle will make your 3-point come down faster. Rotating at the other way makes it dropped slower. Like a damper.
@@steve_n_utahthediyguy9263 Thanks for your quick response. I wonder if that effects the response in the loader too ? Or would it only be the 3 point hitch ?
The 3-point lift is: hydraulic up and gravity down (due to pressure bleed off).,The loader is hydraulic up and down so it won’t effect the loader down speed.
Hi Tony, sorry the tractor is not for sale. It’s not working for me right now. I have the tractor PTO hook up to a 25 hp pump to irrigate my pasture the great little tractors, though.
I would not recommend anyone buy one of these as the parts are hard to get for this model, especially if you need major parts. Reading about these tractors after the fact of buying this model it seems the YM2210D is the one that is most recommended.
