  • I got my first tractor! It is a Yanmar YM 2002 1.3L 20hp 3 cylinder Diesel 4x4. I am new to tractors and have done some research, but still have a lot of questions. Some questions I have are what fluids I need to put in, what implements should I get first, how much weight other 20HP tractors are able to pull and lift, ballast in the rear tires, and any helpful tips and tricks. I am looking forward to learning what my tractor is capable of. If you have any suggestions or answers I would appreciate your help! #tractor #yanmar #questions

I own a 3110D. I’ve owned it for 3 years now. It’s been a great tractor. You will be pleased. Very easy to service and maintenance.

I have a 2020D with a loader have had it for 23 years, it has NEVER failed me. I use Shell Rotella 15-40 in mine, I use regular old tractor hydraulic fluid for the transmission and 3 point. If you look on the bottom of the tractor right below where your left heel would be there is a plate with a couple bolts, when you service it undo those bolts and there is a round metal mesh tube in there, pull it out and clean it good with diesel fuel and reinstall. You'll love that thing. Someone mentioned Fredricks they are good there's another good one in Electra Texas called Hoye tractor they also are very good. I haven't had to use them but a couple times but they are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. And yes at $4,000 you got a hell of a deal

I had one very good tractor. Buy or have a rops made for sure it will turn over easy. Mine had a loader and it would pick up over 1000lbs but need counterweight on rear. I had a backhoe attachment very handy to have. Hoye tractor sells parts and either Hoye or Stanley tractor sells parts and tire/wheel replacements. The stock tires are an oddball size and expensive. But get a rops and seat belt for sure. Keep antifreeze ph in check or head gasket will rust and your have problems. Other than that it’s a great tractor. Had a 13kw pto generator and it would power the whole house and only burned about 4 gallon a day great to have when power goes out. Northern tool sells them.

I have a John Deere that has a Yanmar motor supper tough, Fredricks Outdoors Priceville Alabama has parts for all Yanmar Tractors, back in the day he bought up a bunch because they had a safety issue and he upgrade them with roll bars and made them safety compliant, he has a huge bone yard everything Yanmar, he is the Man when it comes to Yanmar Tractors. Don't lift a heavy load above hood of tractor and try to move to quick slow down or she'll throw you like a shetland pony because of narrow profile.

Just takes time operating the controls, will come with experience. What I learned was to go slow and don’t push the limits. I have a Kabota about that size. Just remember it’s not a (Bulldozer) so don’t try to use it as one. Keep your foot off the clutch when moving and it will last longer. That boom lift on the 3 pt hitch will not lift much at the very end as you may think. Have fun.

You did well, it looks very well maintained. Tractor forums will probably be the best place to find info on fluids. Most likely a standard tractor hydraulic oil will be good, but I would do some searches and their should be plenty of info on Yanmars. Make sure the brakes are good because with a clutch vs a hydrostatic trans you could get caught on a hill having to downshift and if the brakes are bad you’re doing downhill. Make sure all the filters are changed and enjoy it. It will snake logs well. You may even shorten the boom pole or use a different 3point attachment basically just to lift the end of the log to be able to pull it. Put a piece of plastic drum or something under the other end to keep it from getting dirt in it and pull the log like that. That long pole in the woods may be the tail that wags the dog. If you could find a decently priced winch you could make a homemade tree winching setup on a three point attachment that will winch it to you then lift it and snake it to your mill. Drop it there, use bottom of your bucket if you need extra lift power to get a heavier log on the mill…like the bottom of the tubing where you bottom bucket pivot is, to get more lifting leverage. The closer to the tractor the more you can lift.
I could keep on talking for hours lol
