Jan Trillo-Lopez I'm using an iPad primarily as a portable computer and have been getting by great. Mostly everything I've needed from a laptop I get from an iPad. Plus, it's much lighter than my laptop and lasts far longer. The only problem I've faced is certain software my classes require such as MATLAB. That's why I still have a desktop at home but use iPad for everything else.

Parker Brooks I agree! I use my iPad Pro for a lot of the things I could do on my computer, but there are still a few things missing for my needs (but not far off). That being said, this can replace a computer entirely for a lot of people. But as Marques says, it’s just a lot more fun to use!

There is no way i would carry ipad pro without case. I have budget ipad i have full on case and screen protector. There is no way i am scraching this.
apple screens and back dont scratch since a longue time now, you can look on youtube video. I have an old useless iphone 7 at home i show it 2 days ago to my wife to proove her you dont need case anymore, you can litteraly use all your strengh to try to scratch it with keys, on any place including lens, that does nothing. You will scratch your keys in 2019

Axel that’s because the metal on the keys aren’t made of a strong enough metal to actually scratch the screen. A lot of other things will, and apple products definitely still scratch kinda easily.

The Gecko iPad OS is the new upcoming software release, that is currently only available for beta testers. However, I could download iPad OS. But in my case I can’t afford the random crashes or losing any saved work. That costs money.

I have been editing projects with multiple 4K tracks on Luma fusion and it is ridiculously smooth.
Swapped out my MacBook Pro for the iPad Pro 12.9 recently and haves zero regrets. The iPad along with the keyboard case is taking care of all my computing needs. Only thing that I struggle with a little is the fact that there is no backlight on the keyboard.
Should’ve gotten the Logitech smart folio pro....i got it for my 11 iPad Pro ...after a bunch of review and I’m loving it great protection, that good typing sensation and yep backlit keys...
J-Rob D. Yeah you are probably right, I do like the Apple keyboard it’s just the backlight. Maybe I could sell the Apple keyboard folio and get the Logitech.

@The Imposter the iPad 6th gen is fine. You really don’t need to upgrade yet. Especially if it’s not comming out of your own wallet.
WHY? Why EVERY apple product review limited with photo or video editing? Seems like I will never understand if it suitable (comfortable) for coding, text editing, spreadsheet editing, file management, etc...
In your case, I think Surface Pro will do a very good job. The keyboard is really great and it has the ability to run exe, so just run any IDE and professional tools you like. And if you prefer an Apple product, I think a MBP is way better than an iPad for what you need to do.
He said typing is not great so it's not suitable for coding and it looks like that file management is doable.
Because this expensive pos can't do such things. No coding for example.

Honestly the keyboard folio is great for what it does. Coming from a macbook pro keyboard, it is actually really good!

i tried the iPad cover keyboard in a store so ill take this with a grain of salt, but it was horrible so bad, felt like i pressed some slime toy, an i think it is really sad that the "pc replacement" dose'nt have a descent keyboard
I seem to be in the minority by actually liking the feeling of the new butterfly switch keyboard. It feels very clicky and a fast response, I like that about it.

What about the Brydge keyboard? Turned my 11 inch into a macbook basically and it doesn’t cover up the iPad and detaches easily. Perfectly made for you 😜

Andy Haber I love it. One of the main reasons I wanted it initially was because of the viewing angles because with most cases even when wasting 30/40/50 dollars and you get minimal viewing angles this one has any stop point you want. Now I know it’s not a case but it does come with a leather back that keeps the back clean which is nice but you don’t have to use it. Where it came in handy was for my emails and anytime of typing anywhere online. From blogging, to Reddit to commenting on here right now! Haha I do all my typing on it. Oh and i haven’t charged the keyboard in a month still at 80 percent

A lot of people think there aren’t any good keyboard iPad cases. I have had lots of trouble with cases, feeling cheap, Bluetooth not working, awkward charging. But, i think is finally found the best case, Logitech iPad case, the trackpads really nice, no Bluetooth, its backlit, and has so many features that makes it feel more like a computer.

I switched to iPad years ago for my business when visiting clients. Best decision I ever made. No longer hauling around heavy laptops from office to office . I can access things quickly, helping prevent downtime in conversations. The rest of my team criticized me, today over 50% of the team went iPad only

I usually just use my tab S4. It works well for everything I do and of course it's relatively light. And comes with a S pen. Which is awesome.

Missing the classic Smart Cover which just covers the front..
There is no 1st party cover like that anymore, it covers both sides now. Only older iPads use typical 1 sided cover.

The best case was the iPad smart case which covered the front and back. This was sold alongside all the iPads up to the Air 2. Sadly they resorted to the magnetic crap and keyboard folios.

For designing work iPad Pro is great. I am an exterior car designer and I already have an iMac 🖥 so I brought an iPad Pro with Apple Pencil as my go to designing and sketching device and the iMac for using 3d modeling software .
Try Logitech’s keyboard case, it’s the best case I’ve found

Matthew James Photoshop is a joke on the iPad Pro. Between Serif Lab’s Affinity Photo & Designer, it’s all you’ll ever need!! I’m not even touching on Procreate which is another powerhouse, and for those quick touch-ups and simple rapid photo processing needs there’s Pixelmator, Afterlight, Darkroom, etc. All-in-all one will get used to these apps on an iPad Pro very quickly, if only for the simplicity on the later ones!! The thing is also a beast when it comes to professional-grade video editing with LumaFusion & LumaFX, and I personally get the most use out of it with audio production. It’s a creative machine even if not a “computer” per se.

Spencer Myrick He said he actually preferred typing on the screen when that was necessary. Perhaps he could have shown that more clearly, but I do understand the reasoning. Better to focus on the strong points of an iPad as much as possible. Taking the keyboard along just means you might as well just take a laptop in the first place.
I think I’d also do it this way, and relegate any typing possible to a decent mechanical keyboard at the desktop. If that works, great. If not, a laptop is likely better suited than a tablet anyway.
Dan Davidson What he really said was that he likes the ‘Naked’ design of the latest iPad Pro and that he does not like the look or feel of any of the cases that are currently on the market, including Apple’s. That is a fair opinion but ruins the purity of the challenge’s intent, which is to see if an iPad Pro running the iPadOS beta can replace a laptop as a computer. Not using a Smart Keyboard, or a third-party keyboard case, for the challenge greatly impacts the outcome. He states in the video that the iPad’s on-screen keyboard is only good for short messages and emails. He also states that he does not like using the iPad when it is lying down flat on a table. Both of these issues are solved by using a keyboard case, whether it be Apple’s or a third party’s.
Essentially, Marques performed the ‘iPad Challenge’ with an iPad in tablet form, not the iPad Pro as it is designed to be as a laptop replacement. I am an IT professional that uses an iPad Pro 10.5” as my primary mobile computer and can unbiasedly report that the experience is very well balanced. The iPad Pro + Smart Keyboard is very compact and sturdy, the battery easily lasts all day, stream-lined apps make it easy to get work done, and I even have the ability to remote into Windows and Linux workstations if necessary. I can also tell you that without a keyboard device connected to the iPad, the argument that the iPad Pro could rival a traditional Windows or PC laptop would be ridiculous.

I have an iPad 2, so I'm using iOS 10 with a laggy interface. It's not terrible but I really want an upgrade!
I’ve come to realise that the iPad isn’t a laptop replacement, it’s a laptop alternative.
I still feel that all of his problems could be solved by using a Surface Go/Pro, which is more of an alternative, given that it runs a full OS.

@@hirshkabaria8329 Surface Go & Pro are lousy to use as tablets compared to the iPad, and their battery life can't compare.
@@Sharky165 the battery life can compare, since it is a full on laptop tablet hybrid. If the iPad was a full on laptop tablet hybrid like the surface, the battery life would be worse
It all depends on the users needs At the end of the day a tablet, smartphone and desktop are still all computers some will suit better than others.
I made the switch a few weeks ago. It replaced my 2013 MacBook Pro. It actually works for me and my workflow

Been using ipad since 6 years ago til now for playing games, college assignments, and illustrating. It gets better as the year progressed since there are new apps that are capable of doing some pro stuff, like affinity designer, procreate etc.

I just ordered one , should I worry about it bending?? Have you noticed anything like that from keeping it in your back pack?
Nope. I’ve used it heavily for four months so far, and never a bend in sight. A case helps and it will be a good investment (especially with iPad OS coming soon)!

This actually makes me wonder what a similar situation of laptop replacement/alternative would look like with the Samsung Tab S6, due to the inclusion of Dex. Marques, would you be willing to try something like that?
That would be great, However for it to replace my windows device I would need more applications to be available.
I would go with a Microsoft surface tablet if I was to attempt this challenge.
