You know what would be a GREAT feature on a new Magic Keyboard for iPad? A battery inside the spine of the keyboard that can charge your iPad one the go, sort of like how the MagSafe battery pack worked for the iPhone.
As an iPad and Mac user I agree, you’ll always need your Mac for things and iPad simply can’t do. I use the iPad for other type of activities like playing games, editing photos or drawing/painting but for real work and multitasking features I’d always prefer my Mac.
when a samsung phone from 2018 still acts as a proper PC replacement than apples latest attempt ,oh and has a proper mouse pointer FYI, its funny how its overpriced keyboard has no flex unlike the actual tablet it requires lmaooo, well done apple, giving us all a good laugh
Worth noting touchpad gestures can also be used to exit full screen video (pinch) or to go to the home screen (three finger swipe) if you prefer. Fast and fluid. No need to touch the screen.
Noah Schott Because it’s a tablet, and the point is to have the touchscreen. Tablets are more useful than laptops in that they function as touchscreen still, allowing you to do a lot of things a laptop doesn’t. When my Macbook fried, and it took a year to get it fixed and to save all the files, I used my 1st gen iPad Pro with the old school Apple keyboard, and it did an excellent job of functioning as my main computer. Certainly, using Keynotes was more difficult without a mouse/trackpad, but anything else worked perfectly and I found myself not needing my Macbook at all. The iPad can replace a keyboard easily, and not having an escape button isn’t an actual problem when you can achieve far more with the touchscreen, especially with the Apple pencil. In all honesty, you’d still be wise to have a Mac for your desk, to really use professionally, but an iPad is an even better replacement of Macbook for daily use, every day job situation, business trips, and vacations. It’s more useful to bring an iPad to work/school than to bring a Macbook.
There’s a third type of person, those who flip the the case behind the iPad and use it like an iPad, then flip it back for some quick typing. this case cant do that.
Yeah I thought there should have been a deeper look at the short comings of the case than there was. No way to provide a tilt for drawing or anything like that, no way to flip the keyboard so it's underneath/behind the screen (Helpful when watching a movie on an airplane with a small tray table.. They're charging such a premium for this case that it should be able to do all that.
Bryan Morera That is correct: the Smart Keyboard only goes back as far as what is shown in the product marketing and in the reviews. Even with “magic” in the name, this thing can’t escape simple physics. Frankly, I’m on the fence about returning mine (provided that the UPS driver stops f’ing around and delivers it today like he’s supposed to ...). Either way, I’m holding onto my iPad Pro’s Smart Folio keyboard and I anticipate switching between the two based on context. I’m trying to wrap my head around this being more of a very capable keyboard/trackpad dock than a keyboard case.
IMHO: Even though iPadOS has been an improvement for a more robust “computing” experience on iPad, it still falls very short - specifically in terms of the iPad Pro being a monster of a device, plus now this amazing keyboard. It’s now time for Apple to either bring iPadOS a few steps closer to macOS, or just wrap up on a full merge between both systems. With the specs on the iPad Pro, you can more than ever feel the software staying significantly behind the hardware; iPad OS really feels like “iOS Office Edition”, rather than the “what’s a computer” concept that Apple it trying to push.
hate to tell you sunshine but the ipad pro's "pro specs" would choke on a real OS. It's why they haven't done it and honestly it's hilarious. Apple always touting "it's the most powerful hardware out there" but the software limits it to maybe 30% of all that power so.... ok.
TAGE FPV right, which is why he’s saying that the right software could really use the iPad to its fullest potential, and do it without sacrificing speed or reliability. Questionable whether battery would suffer, but at that point you have to ask if you’re a power user and should really be using a tablet/folio setup for whatever it is that you do.
@@TAGE_FPV No, It's not the fastest but it doesn't need to be as iPad OS doesn't need a i7 processor 2080 ti but even if you run windows on iPad it would be faster than a surface go. So don't provide false information just because you can't grade arm chips
TAGE FPV considering that when the 2018 iPad Pros came out they were more powerful than almost every MacBook Pro up until that point, I’m gonna say citation needed on that one

Louie Jacob yes and you can actually do it from the trackpad itself without touching the screen. Not ideal maybe, but I’m pretty sure that each instance he mentions needing to touch the screen actually has a way of doing it directly from the trackpad.
keanu sanches keanu sanches I agree with you all. I was thinking of other ways that he can do it. The same with the keyboard brightness setting. All you have to is ask Siri to go there and skip all those menus. He also can create his own Shortcut.
As a surveyor this combo works nicely for me, I use the iPad with pencil out on site to take notes, pictures etc, and back at the office, back in the case to type up etc. Great for my use case, but 100% agreed it's not a laptop replacement.
>"We made your iPad float, it's... magic" Apple fanboys: "WOW take my money" Others: "lol what's the point" I would be lying if I say the engineering and design that went into this doesn't impress me, but the looks aside, I don't see why there's a need to make the tablet hover. Doesn't add that much of a height, does not give an advantage to viewing angles (in fact, worse viewing angles because of the cantilever design), and if your fingers keep hitting the tablet on other standard tablet+keyboard setups you have yourself to blame. Pretty sure they charge a premium just for that design choice alone because hey, it... _floats_.
This is a criminally-UNDERRATED comment Baller-X! I feel the same way... I was totally set on getting this new ipad, but for the total price plus keyboard I will end up getting the macbook air most likely
There's a way to "add" an escape key on it. "Settings" -> "General" -> "Keyboards" -> "Hardware Keyboard" -> "Modifer Keys", I remapped the "Globe Key" to "Escape" and it's way more better cuz I never use the "Globe Key".
Also, for those of you watching more recently, you can use music apps in slide over and quickly bring the app back onto the screen to change the song, volume etc. you can also use Picture in Picture to watch videos or use split screen or slide over. I’m not sure if zoom or MS teams supports Picture in Picture, but if you use split screen the windows can’t overlap like on a mac so the video tab will be smaller. Also there’s no way to use portrait split screen with one on top of the other to combat this as of yet.
@@stuff6181 People like me have to use pencil and keyboard alternatively while taking notes. It is impossible to take out the ipad and keep it back multiple times especially when we are sitting for long classes.
There is no doubt new keyboard is amazing piece of tech. I am an artist. I am skeptical about using this for my work where i will have to draw and type.
@@stuff6181 Raher than making a knee jerk comment, why dont you actually put yourself into the shoes of a college student who might use the pencil and keyboard for notes in a lecture? One second the professor is going through slides, then a math question comes up. Or a diagram comes up. Are you really gonna keep disconnecting and reconnecting your iPad to this case? Heres another scenario: Youre an art student in your dorm drawing up some pictures for an assignment until you have to leave for a lecture. With previous cases you could fold the keyboard back and use it like an iPad. With this case, you gotta disconnect it, then remember to grab it in your way out before class. If they made it so the hinge clicked into keyboard mode when opening the case, then with a little force clicked out of keyboard mode and kept folding backwards so you could fold the keyboard behind the iPad, this would be much more practical.
@@pulkitrana590 Oh sorry, I didn't know that. I'll never use it again. Thanks for pointing me that out xD. Anyway, I've tried to show that no one was talking about Illuminati before that shirt came out, and I guess there were no requests for that review (opposed to Magic Keyboard requests). Sorry for spoiling the joke, but some idiots like you need the explanation.
I bought the now-M1 iPad Pro 11 inch recently and got one of these cases, since my previous 9.7 inch iPad Pro’s Logitech keyboard case broke in part of the frame which held the iPad in place. While functional, it was a pain to not bump the iPad lest it be dislodged. I was replacing my laptop at the same time. I used my old iPad Pro for drawing and as a lighter option for my day job, and the experience of Pencil in drawing apps made me go with the new Pro as the replacement for *both* my iPad and Laptop in one device. When art creation, size and weight matter, this is a pretty solid case. I’m still in my first week with it, but here are my thoughts. The case is, like Marques said, inflexible. The keyboard itself is resistant to bending under any normal use case. The case’s open-or-closed nature does remove the ability to use the screen at a more comfortable angle for drawing, however. It’s also somewhat awkward to use lying on a bed, (I am currently doing so to type this comment) as the top-heavy (although the keyboard part is quite heavy!) design does make it more awkward than a conventional laptop. With this case, you’re either in Laptop mode or Closed mode. On a flat level surface, this is fine, and the unit is not prone to tipping backward there. The keys are about as good as you’d hope they would be, and while the 11 inch version I use has to compress a few of the farthest keys a bit, its something you can get used to with time. The backlight is exactly as obtuse to control as the video showed, but since its using the ambient light sensor, it does a reasonable job of making it dim or bright appropriately with little need to intervene. The magnetic hold on the iPad is strong. No issues. Trackpad is small but precise and gets you across the iPad screen easily before your finger hits the opposite edge. My biggest complaints? Not able to flip to hold the iPad at a low angle, and the rubberized strip which covers the hinge might be vulnerable to wear. Also, the screen of the iPad contacts the keyboard when closed, and I have concerns about whether that would cause damage to the screen eventually. Speaking of screens, this case is *tight* when closed, leaving no room for a screen protector. It’s also heavy, like Marques said, since its built with a lot of stiff metal. I’m hoping that means the hinge won’t wear out. Worth the price tag? Well, it was a big hit to my bank account, but if it lasts me as long as the last iPad Pro case I used, I’ll be using it long enough to justify the price. Ideally, I’d like to have it endure for around 3-5 years.
2-weeks-later update: As replacements for both my old iPad and old MacBook go, this combined with an iPad Pro did a fine jobThe angle hinge rotates further than I expected! I almost get nervous when it goes back that far; it feels like I’m breaking the thing, but it seems to have no adverse effects. This thing is sturdy. Surprisingly so. My concerns about the iPad screen contacting the keyboard when the case is closed seem to have panned out to a small degree; there’s an obvious imprint on the smudges and fingerprints usually on the screen from the keyboard, mostly from the divide between the bottom key row and the wrist-rest/touchpad section.
I’m at ~2.5 years with the M1 iPad Pro now, and while much of the pros and cons I made back then hold up all this time later, one thing I am very impressed with has been durability of the case. The hinge cover I feared would lose pliability and crumble, or tear from an accidental catch or pull on something, has actually survived beautifully with no damage at all. The seams along the edge of the case have been slightly ripped in a few spots, but none of those have progressed into the material beyond. Damage to the screen has not materialized either; a few small scratches have emerged over the years on the screen, but no clear correlation between the scratches and the case exist and they’re likely from other basic wear and tear. Overall, I’d call this a good purchase. Maybe I’ll be back in another two years. The M4 iPad Pro is thinner than my M1, and as such has a thinner new Magic Keyboard, so my next iPad is unlikely to use my current case. I don’t expect that to happen for another 1-2 years, however the updates to the Apple Pencil might prompt that sooner…
DuckPin2011 Hi honey, I know you really like the thing you are using but please use the thing I like. I’ll even throw in convincing arguments like “it costs too much” and “it’s crapple”. Wow, you completely ignored me. That’s so surprising”
The iPad is a great tablet. I’d say it’s the best on the market. When paired with an Apple Pencil it really shines. One of the best tech purchases I ever made. In an odd chain of events, the way I was able to use it got me a job doing something I seriously enjoyed. That said, it still wasn’t replacing a laptop. It handles a lot of my light tasks, but it’s still limited in what it can run.
I LOVE this case, but I find it tends to force me to use the iPad more like my laptop than I would any other iPad. Because now I'm loathe to pop it out! BUT It is a perfect substation for travel. I am sick of traveling with my MacBook Pro, and this makes for a great combo, if not just as heavy! Great video!

That type of person should get the folio then. This isn't made for somebody that just needs to do some quick typing.
Wait are you serious? It doesn’t flip back all the way? I ordered mine already but I’ll return it if that’s the case.
You just take it out of the case
Both are currently sitting in my Apple Store bag and I’m watching videos on whether it’s the right move or not...
You the spontaneous one eh?
Gbbv. K
same lol. Did you end up getting them?
Yeah I got them both and the Apple Pencil, definitely worth it.

I would be lying if I say the engineering and design that went into this doesn't impress me, but the looks aside, I don't see why there's a need to make the tablet hover. _floats_.

you can also use Picture in Picture to watch videos or use split screen or slide over. I’m not sure if zoom or MS teams supports Picture in Picture, but if you use split screen the windows can’t overlap like on a mac so the video tab will be smaller. Also there’s no way to use portrait split screen with one on top of the other to combat this as of yet.

8:02 by the tone of Marques, He is really pissed by not having the function key
Aditya Joshi I've never heard him like that before, it was quite scary haha.
