@@zacatkinson3926 FFXIII is terrific, but it is experimental in terms of combat and story progression. Then again FF had always been about experimentation.
@@JDubDotEXE the only downside....the first 3/4 parts of the game were very lineal until you reach Grand Paals. once you reach there, you have complete freedom but you cant go back to the sections of cocoon.
I won’t lie I was amazed when I first saw the land of Gran Pulse , it still amazes me how Ps3 managed to run it off. FF XIII was probably squares most ambitious project alongside 7 remake
I never really got the hate for the linearity of the first half of FFXIII, but the first time Gran Pulse opens out and you see just how huge the Steppe is, it's mindblowing!
I love how there is so much side questing to do on Gran Pulse it basically doubles the length of the game, so many "hidden in plain sight" secrets that only trigger after certains conditions are met, two entire huge areas of the game off the steppe that you never gain access to unless you do the side quests, but you can just race through and ignore all of it if you want, nothing is told to the player except for "hey look these Ciet'h stones can give you missions", nothing about the other side quests, probably the only game in the series where you don't even get a hint that you can ride chocobos, that there are new areas and gameplay mechanics that open with it.
@@JDubDotEXEknow this is a old comment but my theory is its due to how they were going more open world with twelve. Basically they expected another huge world like ivilice, i absolutely love 13 and never get why people hound on 13 for being linear then turn around and praise 10 for BEING linear
I agree but that same ambition ruined it imo. Content had to be cut and gameplay had to be insanely simplified to get the game out to the public. FFXIII would have been a miraculous game if it was able to pull off what it was meant to be like it's similarly fated sister game ffversusxiii/ffxv.
My first Final Fantasy game, and one of the first games I played on the PS3! I believe I was 5 or 6 at the time, and I was absolutely enamored by how the game looked, played, felt, sounded...everything about it just blew me away, especially the soundtrack! Played it for hours on end, even if I was kinda bad at it, just to listen to that OST... Roughly 14 years later and I still feel same way about the game. One of my favourites of all time, absolutely phenomenal game.
@@MidnightPlus1That’s exactly my case here too. I was also around 5/6 years old. I didn’t understand anything of course, but did I had fun playing it nonetheless.
It's nice you spend so much time in this area with the best song in the game. I liked 13 back in 2010 when I first got it. Didn't LOVE it, but the music made up for a LOT.
I have very fond memories of playing through this game. The characters and the music was good and the environments beautiful graphically. I know people complained of the path being linear but I still loved my playthrough of this game for what it was. Unpopular opinion but this is the last main entry game that felt like a true Final Fantasy game to me. What I look for in Final Fantasy games is uniquely designed character models along with how their dressed and their personality, add to that fantasy feeling beautiful worlds you explore along with majestic music which this game gave me all of. While I hope Final Fantasy 16 sells good, I'm really not interested at all in that upcoming game. It doesn't look like a Final Fantasy game to me.
Took the words right out of my mouth, especially the bit about it being the last entry in the series (currently at least) to "feel" like a Final Fantasy game
Liked this game. Wasn't as good as usual FFs world wise, but the battle system was awesome. My first PS3 disc drive fried because of this game. I lost a 30 hour save file because of this.
It's one of those games where the story makes so much more sense on a repeat playthrough, but sadly the first half of the game doesn't often feel like it warrants one!
@@JDubDotEXE see Im a geek 🤓 so I like to do every side Mission and quests before I continue with the main storyline I'm at the part where I fight barthanduls for the first time... And something i didn't want to hear lol
I am in my first playthrough of the game and I keep wondering why is it so hated. The atmosphere is fascinating. The only critique I understand is that the game is quite linear but this chapter added more openess.
I think that's where the hate comes from tbh, compared to previous games it's really linear, but then the Steppe opens up and it's massive! Personally, the linearity doesn't bother me, there's still plenty of scope for wandering around and levelling up etc.
My first Final Fantasy game. The memories never die.
XIII is an interesting entry point, but I'm happy you enjoyed it!
5th game for me and the music is still absolutely wonderful! I have memories of listening to this music on my way to work.

My #1 go-to song when I'm overwhelmed from life stuff and need to shut out the bad vibes for an hour or 2 🥰🥰🥰
I'm glad I can offer you some sanctuary, even if it's only brief!
I barely remember anything from the game storyline (chalk that up to the story telling method) but this song is permanently etched into my brain
The final third of the game is excellent, and this track being as good as it is means it doesn't outstay its welcome!
I love how you can hear “The Sunleth Waterscape” theme in this.
Interpolation! And the lyrics from Sunleth Waterscape also follow the same melody as the piano from The Promise!

Thank you for making this. I'm gonna wish for a FFXIII remake with the quality and fidelity of FFVII Remake Intergrade until it happens :)
They might need to polish the story up a little too, make it more accessible for first time players, but FFXIII is criminally underrated!
Good for calming down while studying, thanks
You're welcome! 😊
Thanks for the upload. I hope this won’t get terminated.
It's survived for eight months so far, so here's hoping!
This music always brings me happiness
Excellent video editing, most OST just put the music. Thanks
All I did was loop a large section of the intro movie 😅 but I agree it's far better than just a static image, something a little different!

People often criticise 13 for being so linear, but then you arrive here at the Steppe and it's like... whoaaaa 🤯
Sooooooo many hours. Back and forth. Up and down. First PS3 game I ever plat.
On the one hand it was great to finally have some non-linear gameplay, on the other it was just So. Much. Space!
Late to the party, but same here.

What lovely music to see a chocobo get eaten alive to.
It is the law of the Steppe! 😅

And worth playing the rest of the game to get there!

Chocobos
Honestly an underutilised mechanic in FFXIII.
Been playing this game for 100 hrs and counting... Still don't have 50% completion 😢. Love this song tho...
Once the world opens up there's so much to get done!
