The balance history of this weapon is so infuriating, it started as a very simple concept, maybe not perfectly balanced but not too bad, and today it’s effectively very similar to how it started, but all the dumb shit Valve did in between makes absolutely no sense.
Fun fact: The crit-a-cola is banned in competitive because being able to one shot the medic and run is incredibly powerful, especially since you won't really be taking much damage after firing 1-2 shots and running. This strategy effectively nullifies the downside. Even if you do die, though, the med pick is still often worth it, meaning if you hit your shots, its a win win scenario.
@Lex Bright Raven Not half. Only 24 weapons are banned. Specialist based gameplay is usually too chaotic and ends up being centered on only a few players (look at highlander, where the game is centered around the sniper, demo and medic)
Try the Fan-O-War next. I feel like it turns scout into spy, rewarding smart flanks with easy picks, but you have to get in melee range. However, unlike Spy, after you get the pick, you can keep fighting and possibly continue picking up kills.
Can we get a vid on the Eviction Notice and how counter-intuitive it is to use? You have to pull it out and hit someone to take advantage of the upsides, but you slowly lose max health, lose that max health faster if you’re switching between it too often, the max health regen is slow so you can’t pull it out as often, it can drop your max health below the previous version’s vulnerability, and it doesn’t even properly stack with the Buffalo Steak Sandvich. It was nerfed because heavies could use it as a diet GRU to get to mid in competitive 6s, making the game slow down and become much less fun to play. Though, as of recent, the changes to the GRU have helped the weapon more than harmed, making the Eviction Notice's changes hardly justified.

Great analysis of the Crit-a-Cola! Only thing I would have mentioned is that you can drink the cola, pick a pistol off the ground, and deal Mini-crits with it. Granted, that almost never happens, but I like to do it whenever my team's getting spawncamped
I'd like to see the phlog covered more in depth. such a weird weapon, doesn't take too much skill to totally stomp a pub, however claimed to be nigh useless in higher levels of play due to the lack of airblast. Extremely good video but I personally think the Fan O War is actually a better option than the Crit A Cola. First it take the melee slot which that mean that you can still use a secondary and it doesn't really have a downside . Yes the Fan does 8 damage but it's not really a problem since using your melee to kill people is not really effective , just reload your primary instead. Plus you can litteraly pull those Mini Crit out of your ass And finally you can "select" your victim so you and your team can deal minicrits to that said target and the Resupply locker doesn't remove the Marked for Death effect The Fan O War is trully good if you used it to flank and select important target for your team like an overheal Heavy , Vacc Medic or even a player under the effect of the Quick fix uber. But the weakness of the Fan is that you need to be at melee range to make something with it. That's why the Scattergun is actually meh with the Fan but has more power if you combine it with Soda popper , Force A Nature and Baby Face Blaster because they simply have less bullet and it kinda erase this downside if you play your card right. Personally I have the same opinion on the Fan O War that you have on the Candy Cane
Can't you just do 2 pumps of shotty close range which every scout primary can do and just use literally any other pistol to finish them off if they're not dead
I always liked the force a nature crit o cola combo back in its vanilla state. If you somehow missed your instant kill your opponent got yeeted away. Bonus points for the easy sandman stun to guarantee your escape

Fun fact: you can actually bypass the crit o cola's mini crits on self if you swap secondaries right after you drink it, before firing. I would consider the baby face blaster something really good and awful at the same time, juat due to the boost being so fragile, you can gain it fast by using any pistol or bleed weapon, but it goes away really fast too if the enemy can actually aim (or just spam shotgun shots at you too lol)
its not good at all. 100 damage to fill the speed meter and 25 damage completely drains the meter. so unless the server is filled with new players that cant aim you arent gonna have a good time.
Crit-A-Cola certainly seems to operate under the idea of 'You are a glass cannon, but so is everyone else'. You get a huge damage boost, but in return, so does everyone else against you. However, the main flaw with this design is the fact that Scout is *already* a glass cannon. He's one of the weakest classes in the game, meaning that every enemy you're going up against will have more health than you (unless it's a Big Earner/Kunai Spy, and even then you don't need minicrits to take one of those down). The other secondaries Scout has are just...more consistent options. Damage? Guillotine, 50 damage right off the bat and 40 damage through bleed (if uninterrupted). Security? Pretty Boy's Pocket Pistol. Fires fast and gives you health. Utility? Winger. An extra boost to your jump height can really get you to places enemies aren't likely expecting a Scout to be, and it comes with slightly higher base damage to boot. The Cola's big damage boost does work best when you're catching a group of enemies off guard but...so does literally everything else when enemies are caught off guard. As a Scout, you can already consistently two to three shot most classes, and you're not likely to take down more enemies caught off guard with Cola than you would normally since you're taking more damage than usual; as soon as you're noticed you're dead from the minicrits.
scout especially in competitive settings was already also really good at the "cannon" part so letting him essentially turn into a housefly with nuclear weaponry got it banned pretty quick last time i checked.
I remember a friend came up with a really stupid way of balancing the criti-cola by giving literal crits but it also marks you for death and reduces your max health by 75 for as long as it lasts. It would turn it into an absolute joke but I can't deny it would be interesting
I think its good because it does what its supposed to. Make scout the fast hard to hit dodging small man more of a glass cannon than he already is. So it rewards good evasion and hitting targets more and punishes getting hit and missing more. So its essentially the narcissists drink
I don't think BFB and crit a cola technically "stacked" because the BFB brings you to 520hmu/s at max boost, which is the ground speed limit in the game. I know it used to be lower but I don't think it was ever nonexistant.
It was never that scout "outran his own hitbox", that doesn't really make any sense from a coding perspective. A similar effect could happen due to online latency causing the opponent's position on the server and the position of them on your screen to be slightly different giving the illusion of that happening, as the faster you'd move, the latency effect would worsen, but the same issue would happen with things like rocket jumping, demoknight charge, thermal thruster, etc, yet nobody complains about those characters "outrunning their hitbox". It is understandable as the BFB effect lasts for an indefinite amount of time until you lose Boost instead of a limited time like the effects mentioned above, but I still think claiming that "scout was outrunning his own hitbox" is a misleading way of calling it as it makes it sound like it was some bug exclusive to the design of the BFB, and not server lag dealing badly with high speeds.
@@airayne5176 Of course, I just see a lot of people acting like the BFB had some weird coding issue that caused it to be hard to fight against and not just the nature of multiplayer fps games and speed as a whole.

I feel like even though the crit o cola was rightfully nerfed, it was nerfed too hard again. Scout should have everything as is with the crit o cola, but with 8 seconds of mini crits again. I have had too many situations now where I barely got anything done under the effects because it ended way too quickly, leaving me vulnerable many times for no reason.
My first scout load out besides stock was the candy cane stock and the criticola. I bearly used the cola in the first place not knowing good positioning.
Thought of a skit where scout gets thirsty at home so he grabs a crit-a-cola from his fridge and drinks it but then he stubs his toe and fucking explodes
1. Change the crit-a-cola so that you get a percentage-based movement speed buff, that is canceled when you fire your weapon (or swing melee), to coincide with the mark for death appearing when you start firing your mini-crits. This way you can use the crit-a-cola to either run away, or to engage. 2. The sun on a stick isn't even bad. Swapping to it to turn all afterburn damage from 4 per tick to 1 per tick is amazing.

scout especially in competitive settings was already also really good at the "cannon" part so letting him essentially turn into a housefly with nuclear weaponry got it banned pretty quick last time i checked.
I remember a friend came up with a really stupid way of balancing the criti-cola by giving literal crits but it also marks you for death and reduces your max health by 75 for as long as it lasts. It would turn it into an absolute joke but I can't deny it would be interesting
Call it the COC, no balls
"the grape flavour kinda tastes like cough medicine" LEAN!!!!!!!!!
Huh? What is Raid Shadow Legends? Never heard of it before. Thank you TheWhat Show, for introducing me to new games that looks interesting to play.
16:57 omg the clueless pyro stealing that is PAIN
At 4:15, there's one incorrect information, the BFB's speed boost does not stack with the (past) crit a cola's speed boost.
Scout had lean before it was even a thing
"But everyone else is immensely powerful against you."
How is that different from Stock Scout?
Stock scout is the strongest class in a DM lol
Cause you take 35% more damage now with no falloff.
Today I actually dabbled with my Strange Cola. It was terrible. I died equally, if not more than the amount of kills I was actually getting.
i still remember how max speed bfb scout would outrun his hitbox, was the worst thing
@@somekinnn damn, doesn't change how awful to fight it was lmao
@@airayne5176 Of course, I just see a lot of people acting like the BFB had some weird coding issue that caused it to be hard to fight against and not just the nature of multiplayer fps games and speed as a whole.
If you already die to 1 hit with rockets and pipes normally, candycane is basically a direct upgrade
The crit a cola looks like it’s grape or blackberry flavor, or even açaí berry flavor but mixed with cola!
Cola is made from coca leaves, citrus zest, and various spices.
And the other flavor is a fruit.
this along with the Bonk Atomic Punch are probably Scout's most balanced secondaries (as of today, of course)
The coc, Increased penetration damage.
You can skip the sponsorship if you skip ahead to 2:35
I enjoy that fact
Back when soda popper gave you mini crits and crit o cola was also OP. Man, good days.
good and bad weapon is the loose cannon. it's bad when you can't land double donks because your pipes do 56 damage on direct hit.
Most weapons: I'm here on the scale
Crit-a-Cola: I AM THE SCALE
the direct hit. I know its good and i love using it, sometimes. other times i cant hit a stationary ftp sniper with tunnel vision.
I feel like the Back scatter would be more appealing to people if it gave you FULL crits.
9:42 ok that bit got me
TheWhatShow: you know em, you love em
Me: honey, g-fuel?
TheWhatShow: raid shadow legends
Also me: (sad spongebob)
Nothin against it tho dat money is probably reel useful
I feel like even though the crit o cola was rightfully nerfed, it was nerfed too hard again. Scout should have everything as is with the crit o cola, but with 8 seconds of mini crits again. I have had too many situations now where I barely got anything done under the effects because it ended way too quickly, leaving me vulnerable many times for no reason.
Technically, the hitmasn’s heat maker is also with the critacola
The cola encourages a high risk high reward style of play, which is how I think scout should be played.
1:00 *upgrades woman into bear*
Backscatter, Crit-O-Cola, and Fan O' War. Best minicrit loadout.

"give it up for... Raid shado-"
Me: spams L
Ah yes, the Troll Juice.
And I made the mistake of using the candy cane with it way back when. Never again.
Playing with the Crit-a-Cola is like playing as a faster Big Earner Spy, fucking fly lands on you and you'll have 6 hp.
Using fan of war and force a nature u can insta delete a heavy with no apparent downside
from what I remember, the Cozy Camper was also added in a random update
When you 'shurlped' on that coc
Nice editing, you explained everything well.
Loony approved 👍
Something funny about a lack of updates is that any video that came out in the last few years isn't that different than a video that came out today
Love the little touch that your in-game name is Crit-O-Cola Connoisseur at the start
Great video, and love the Mario Galaxy music.
12:25
random bullet spread - the great equalizer
I feel the Phlog also fits in this category of the worst overpowered weapon
Man this weapon has been through so many changes to game breaking points. I think now it's balanced, maybe needing a few tweaks
17:08 "soda recap"
