I am a artist. Watercolor. I had covid encephalitis July 4th was in a coma for 3 weeks!!! When I was recovering I discovered all my skills were gone. I'm 73 and live in Lexington nursing home. My husband of 45 years has brought all my supplies here. He just purchased your brushes. I'm doing exercises and watching your tutorials!!! It's a long haul but I'm regaining my skills. The facility have requested a painting and I'm unsure if I'm up to the task. When we can afford it I want your books. Keep up your great work it helps me and gives me hope!!!
I love drawing realistic-ish, that's one of my favourite ways to draw! I find realism stressful, so I lean towards realistic-ish instead so I can have fun
This helps me with my anxiety and stress because of your personality and the time you take to help ARTISTS THAT NEED YOU HELP EXPLAINING YOUR ARTWORK ALL THE TIME❤
I took some really pretty photos of poppies a couple years ago. They were very red and tall and planted in front of a rock cabin on right of the square in Jasper, Arkansas.
Stress and anxiety are real problems for me. Your comments early on about going for a light touch really hit home. You are such a great artist & teacher to follow.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS PAINTING!! It was long, but not the least bit boring. I feel as though I learned so much about colors, linear use, and the shapes of flowers and leaves. Thank you very much, Kristi. Let's have more tutorials like this.
Right now I’m watching your tutorial relaxing in my easy chair :-) next I’m gonna put the chicken on… eat… and finish my evening off, painting the happiest flowers in my Washougal-town
You have used the most beautiful colors here!!! It’s AMAZING! My favs are the pods and the contrasting detail of reds on the poppies❤️ Love how you explained how to outline and blend!!! Thank you!!! Love Love Love this!!!!
Wow! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I am just blown away by this painting! ❤️ You are the queen of the brush! 🥰 These are the kinds of paintings I adore and would like to work on trying! I like the realistic-ish part the super photo realism is just too much for me but I could really get into this by the time you were at the end I was in such a meditative state just watching the stroke of your brush!😍 I could definitely see myself spending an hour per petal! And having so much JOY the entire time! Stunningly Beautiful color blending too! I think I just really needed this in-depth step-by-step process that you explained it really opened up a whole New World for me and I think things really clicked so I want to thank you very much for that and let you know that I LOVE your style! Hugs!❤️
I feel the same, once you get to step 3, it becomes like a deep breathing exercise, many of the techniques just repeat and and again so you can sink into the joy of each petal. I do hope you give it a try!
My favorite part of the flower is the juxtaposition of the peach and the brighter pink. Also, I always have trouble picking out my favorite color because I just love them all.
This painting is absolutely wonderful. Thank you, Kristy for breaking it down for us. I’m about 1 Year in on my watercolor journey….but I’m willing to give this a go! 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
Poppies bring so many great memories, I am definitely going to try some of these. Your encouragement about the greens to use is perfect! Love the leaves 🙃
I’m new … VERY new to watercolor paining. In fact I just started painting about a month ago. while I am trying not to “copy” you, it really does help to watch, sketch and paint what you’re painting. I think I’ll get better at doing my own thing more and more as I go along. But, I did an intial painting, then decided it warranted a new attempt or do-over. :) so exciting. :) I feel the second one was so much better! Thank you for fhe inspiration!
This is one of my fav videos of yours. Why? Because I love watching you draw out your flowers. It really helps me understand the drawing process. Thanks
I enjoy having the freedom to call it practice. Then im not afraid to mess up. It is am opportunity to practice. I have also learned that i feel more freedom if i dont use my best paper for practice. And I put multiple things on one sheet or even use the back side. Thanks for all the good tips and encouragement to practice. And try again
I love poppies too, tried to grow some last year, they all turned into rutabagas, gospel truth and I don't even have a clue why! Anyway I love the realistic-Ish style of your flowers, you never fail to deliver! : ) :D
I’m definitely going to have to watch this video a few times before I attempt to paint. You make it look so easy and you are so encouraging. I needed this. My favorite part of the poppy is the graceful but floppy open petals with the dark center contrast. Thank you for sharing your time and talent with us.
I LOVED this video. The colors were magical. My only problem was watching you sketch the flower, I was totally lost and thought it looked terrible until you filled it with color. I guess I need more training when it comes to sketching.
Just ordered my palette and dagger brush from you, very excited to get some joy going as soon as they arrive. Thank you for all you do to inspire us all!
This is beautiful .I love the colours you chose. I like the way you teach, straight forward no pigment numbers. just the words .Most beginners can’t afford the expensive paints,or won’t buy them in case they can’t get on with them.I just used poster paints when I first started before I brought my first real set. ..It’s not always the paint, but what you draw and how you use it.Thanks for explaining everything so well 🥰
@@KristyRice Kristy I’ve been kind of mia on your channel lately, no particular reason, just life. I’m trying to get caught up again. So idk, is your Art for Joy pallet available for sale yet? If so just tell me where, and I am buying it. I had neon colors for a while that I wanted to use more, but couldn’t figure out how. Ever since I saw your unique set up for your palette I’ve been inspired to use them more. I can’t wait to get yours still.
This is gorgeous! I've never taken an art class and I'm really new with a brush. You make a light touch look so easy, but I'm going to need a lot of practice. You're a great teacher and you give me hope. Boop!
Video watched, check, drawing complete and looking recognisable, check, paints, water in jam jar, every brush I own, check, Ed Sheeran playing , chilled hands and fingers, creative juices at the ready! And so to paint and try and produce something I can be proud of. Thankyou for your fab video, I think you have helped me feel like I too could paint xx
@@KristyRice I’m trying , I’m having a real problem trying to get that “ oh I just splashed some paint on so it looks like it’s a bit random and loose vibe .“ I’m fighting with my paint brushes because they want to paint everything in sight even tho in my head I’m trying to be minimalist and random and completely loose like erm a loose thing! 🤣🤣. This is by far my most favorite video of yours. It was jam-packed with information and I loved every minute of it. You make watercolor so much fun by the way you approach it. Thank u so much!!!
Thank you for this lesson! Love it. Love your narration style, too! Thank you for not talking too fast for your words to register in the human brain! And you’re so concise in your explanations! Excellent teaching.
Thank you! This was so helpful! When you said juicy, and direct from pallet…I was going way to dark and getting stuck. Had to make multimedia, ( gouge, and gesso )to get out of trouble. I will be happy when I can do that when I want to, not because I need to.Thanks for those video’s too.

I have enjoyed painting one poppy and three buds this morning. It has turned out really well. I will keep painting these. My style is a little bit formal so far. Many thanks Anne from NZ
I did it and I like it! It looks nothing like yours but it has colour and lots of it. I might go in with a black micron 0.1 as I love that sort of look. I wish we could show you what we do
