Kristy, I am a beginner artist and I recently started watching your channel and I've watched many of your videos so far. I never painted a sunflower before until now and I i gotta say that I'm pretty proud of my results. Thank you for creating a stress free, judgement free, and fun to be creative space for us here. I am one that is very critical of my work but with your mantras to be kind to yourself, I've been able to feel more like an artist and less like a preschooler learning to paint!😅 Again, thank you for being you! 💗
I love Sunflowers. My daughter grew one that was so beautiful and tall that it broke and it made her so sad. I want to paint one for her that she won’t have to worry about breaking. This sunflower is it! I’m so excited. Thank you for teaching me how to make one she’s going to 💕
Middle in the night. Couldn’t find sleep, found your sunflower and painted along with you! Made me happy, learned a lot. Used watercolor and gouache, just to cover some awkward brushstrokes. THANK YOU! Love your tutorials !!!
This was therapeutic, just the boost of joy I needed! You had me at "You can't screw this up" ❤ I played it on slow speed and painted along with you. Joy!
I loved this video Kristy. You have such positive energy that radiates right through our devices. Thank you for sharing. I will try this in the morning.
Thank you so much for the KISS analogy, it literally was the motivation and clarity I needed to help me detach myself from perfectionism and get back to really allowing my art to lead me rather than my ego. Thank you for sharing this and yourself with the world we truly appreciate it.
This is my fave tutorial of yours! It is liberating! Doesn’t look amateurish, nor impressionist, looks Joyful! Fun to do! Great for people who are struggling because it is fun!❤❤❤
Boop Boop! You totally crack me up! I am going to absolutely love painting with you! I am new to water color! I have done oil, acrylic before so this will be a fun change! I went to an estate sale and bought all her water color stuff! Super excited to dive in
How about for sure tomorrow! I can't do anything so might as well paint right!? I broke my arm in 3 places so no one is letting me do anything unless I am wrapped in bubble wrap!
This video shows what can be accomplished in a short sitting time, maybe 5-10 minutes. I can make a flower, enjoy the process (most important), and finish. Please continue with some more of these videos. They show me that I can paint what you show. You have such a pleasant attitude and voice.Encouraging viewers to paint with what they have, but also giving names of colors and types of paper and paintbrushes, you are the reason I am trying once again to paint with watercolor. Keep up the wonderful work you are doing. You are making your corner of the world engaged and happy!
I really loved this and your 6 flower tutorial! I’m new to your channel. Thank you so much for sharing your techniques and your thorough explanations! I’ve learned even more as an intermediate watercolor artist!
I painted this this morning and it didn't turn out too bad! I used to paint 25ish years ago in my early to mid 20s, and am trying to get back into it. Your videos are definitely helping, so thank you!
Wow! Beautiful and I am definitely going to try it. Your background tips were the best. I have a liner brush but never thought to use it on the background. I’m a beginner and glad I’ve come across you!
@@KristyRice Absolutely! Also, I tried the Academy 100% cotton cold press paper for the first time yesterday...total game changer! I was able to do the wet on wet so much better!
This provided another pathway for my watercolor journey. I'm usually the loose, flowing, pastel girl, trying to keep it light and airy. This felt so "naughty!" and was so bold. It was fun. Will probably not be my go-to style for most but it does help to keep things fresh. It was fun and you take away all my fear of "Screwing it Up." Thank you for that freedom. Purchased a rigger and liner brush at your urging. So glad I did! Love them both. (Hmmmm...a cat's tongue...don't have one of those....yet!)
Woo! Another video for my sunflower playlist! I have no idea what I am doing, but I fully intend to manage to get blobs of yellow to turn into reasonably recognisable sunflower in the near future.
I loved this! I painted along, hitting pause often to keep up. I'm somewhat new to watercolor and I first watched you during the recent creative retreat. I watched, and painted along with, your anti color mixing flower tutorial. I knew right then that I loved your style! Thank you for making painting fun instead of it being intimidating!
Hi Kristy! I love your sunflower but mine was bigger in the centre and smaller petals. My Mom has these flowers in the summer and the birds love the seeds. I love birds and flowers but I'm bedbound and I can't walk outside anymore. Ah well such is life!! Anyways, I love making art! It's cathartic and good for the soul. Take care!
Sunflowers are the reason I ever tried to make a mark on paper, I believe. As long as I can recall sunflowers just make me. I can't wait to try this. I may have been doing too much with the liner brush lately, but who cares?! I have some good calligraphy ink, I think I ’ll use for the flourishes. I am smitten with Dioxazine purple for the background rather than the blue, but time will tell.
😊This is a good demonstration ...very inspiring...I mostly do acrylics, when at home, but take my WC set with me when on the road, which is a lot. (Never have enough time to paint! This is my punishment for not minoring in art!) I'm 66 now and art is my therapy. Just discovered your channel... new sub!🎉
Wanted to watch video but this looks so good I’m going to try it.for me it was your bold color choices, it go me thinking I could do this thank you so much. Your videos are so interesting.
I’m anxious to try the multi color center with colors other than browns & black. Also, I want to try the background. Filling in a background scares me. 😆
Kristy, I just found your site. After painting with watercolors for a year, I am now having fun thanks to you. I do have a question, where might I find the small magnets that you use to put the pans in your cute tins. 🥰Brenda - 1
I know this video is old but I have a question about your choice of paper. I bought some rough paper as a rookie mistake what is the difference between all the papers...hot, cold press and rough. Thank you
The textures differ, and for how long they stay wet differs. Just play with your paper! Playing will be fun and you will discover all kinds of things as you go.
PS I do not know which type of paper stays wet for longer. Am a super rookie myself, and using cheap paper. I am just playing and discoveri g and enjoying that 😊
@@KristyRice lol Just learning..I'm working on your practice video..wet on wet etc. I struggle with my water amount and light wash. I started with my first watercolor in July. Kristi's liner brush is awesome! It has a spring to it I've never had in any other brush! It allows the thinnest lines I've ever made.

You make watercoloring so much fun, and take the scariness out of it for beginners like me. Thank you, Kristy!

Hello! I love the way you intertwined the strokes and used a liner brush for the movement effect. Can a fountain pen be used for the same effect?
Yes, absolutely! You won't get the effect where the paint runs out of the brush, but you will have more control with a fountain pen. :)
So beautiful! 😍
