Such important stuff. Thats the swing right there. Question, its still important to keep tilt through the swing correct? Seems golfers including myself will put a lot of the weight on the back foot to keep that tilt.
Thanks Danny! Can't wait to go try this out. This problem accounts for nearly 10 strokes/round. Hopefully this will help a little with my aim as well. Probably another 10 strokes haha.
No joke, Best instructor on You Tube. Three weeks ago, I was struggling with contact and not getting anywhere. I watched Danny's video where he helped Liam Harrison with this. This video is essentially an extension of that one. I worked on those feelings he describes and saw immediate improvement. This week I am playing the best golf of my life. I am striking the ball cleanly, getting more distance out of my shots and have shot back to back rounds in the 70's for the first time ever. THANK YOU Danny!
The concept of emulating the feeling of tossing a ball is taking all the anxiousness out of my swing issue. Toss it high, toss it low, short, far, always with rhythm, never short and quick. I’m going to first start rehearsing my swing as a one handed toss to get the image in my head, then move to a regular rehearsal swing before the shot. Great lesson! Thanks. ⛳️🏌🏽
As an amateur golfer with plenty of (golf) issues, I have to say this is one of the best 15 mins of instruction I've seen. Amateur brains (at least mine) wrongly think that 'hanging back' should help get the the ball into the air - rather than thinking the club can only do its work if one commits to the swing by moving weight as you describe. Thanks for this - great stuff!
I've said before how great these videos are.....but seriously, I don't think it's even close with ANY other instructor on RUclips with how much you simplify everything Danny. Please never stop teaching here!
So good and so helpful! Thanks again Danny. You have a real gift at explaining what should be happening. There are many teachers who are very competent but few are really gifted!
Danny this is a game changer for me. I've only been golfing for a year after playing baseball and softball for over 50. I've been struggling with a huge slice on my driver and have tried everything - including additional lessons. The concept of pushing my hip back is the FIRST time this has been spoken. I can't want to go to the range later today and try it out! I took a few practice swings in my backyard just now with this concept and I could already feel the difference! Thank you!
Danny, l practically have watched all your videos and l can’t thank you enough for how you eliminate all the technicality and make it so simple to understand. Putting pressure on your leading foot then push your hips has really helped me strike the ball more consistently than ever before. Thank you and thank you! Zee.
After about 3 or 4 months of Danny's videos, my game has never been better. Even bought a nice iron set, my games improved so much. Amazing what you can do from miles away. I'm down an average of 13 strokes
I kept coming back to this video during the winter months as I think Danny Maude is by far the best golf instructor I've ever watched. Having worked to mentally "ingrain" his instructions, I'm ready to hit the course this spring with greater confidence than ever before.
Thank you Danny. I was ready to give up on golf, I have been so frustrated with my game, then I discovered your channel, your lessons are easy to follow and seem like they are ment for me. It is a lot of work, but I am slowly improving. Please keep doing what you do. Much appreciated.
I put what I learned from this video into my practice today. Sooo helpful! When I remembered to feel the pressure and 'push' my hip back, I had consistently solid hits with far less effort. It felt great! I love how you explain and simplify the subtle details. Thank you! Super helpful!
Hi Danny - I'm not often moved to write comments on your tube videos but honestly this video has changed my swing like you wouldn't believe - Its given me a simple swing thought to really get the rotation in the hips which I was really struggling with and has changed my impact like you wouldn't believe - straight up saved my golf game.
The most difficult part of this move is to be patient with the hands or the mind doesn't trust the move, so it throws the hands. If the hands (throwing/flipping the club) take over, the hips and upper body will not move, they become the pivot point for the arms and hands instead of the body... I am a bit lazy, I have a tendency to swing to the ball and quit. I'm not finishing the swing (at best a lazy follow through), when I execute this move correctly the follow through is effortless. The swing momentum produces a full follow through. My follow through is my best swing analyzer, If I get handsy or flip the club, I have no follow through, if I swing to hard I'm off balance... Thanks for posting...
So interesting to hear this. I do exactly the same. Good insight about the follow through being a natural by product of correct hitting. I will be more aware of this going forward
Geez Danny these tips are gold. Increased my driver distance from 290m to 320m. Thanks Danny, I'm really enjoying my golf. Just need to balance with my putting, but I have watched your putting video and will give you feedback when I break 80 tomorrow
I have to give you props, Danny. I've been a subscriber to your videos and, as a result of the instruction that you provided today, especially, I enjoyed a stupendous round. My ball striking, with the exception of my driver (which still needs work), was on the mark. The tip regarding the take away was the game changer. Thank you, once again for the generosity, as well as, the time and effort that you expended in making these videos available to hackers like me! Thanks, again. You have a tremendous talent and I appreciate you sharing it. Cheers, ~dirk
Danny, you are the best! I recommend you to everyone. You keep it simple and understandable. You have changed my game. I just need to remember these basics.
This has got to be one of your best training videos. I struggle a bit with my back and have lost distance with drives and irons over last two years. I played a few rounds recently combining these techniques with your ‘best senior swing’ technique (right foot back and flared etc). The results were excellent. More consistent straight drives and irons with added distance. Sometimes I do not move the left leg back enough or quick enough on the down swing so end up chunking the ball or pulling left so I need to keep working on that. Always used to try and move the weight from right to left (I am a right hander) turning the hips and I just used to keep thinning irons or hitting them heavy and also lost distance with my drives. This has fixed everything. Thanks Danny !
Danny, a million thanks. I have been working on my backswing to downswing transition, trying to get more consistency. Trued so many tweaks to my swing over the past few weeks. And in 15 mins of watching your video, the light bulb went off. The reminder of throwing a ball was the solution. Went to the range and it just works. The 3 tips you gave just worked. i am now striking the ball more pure, more consistent. a million thanks !!
Thank you again Danny! You described my problem as well exactly to the T. I’ll be heading off to the driving range tomorrow to give it a go! Really appreciate all these very detailed instructional videos which have helped my game improve over the past years. You’ve got a lifelong fan in me!
I watch a tonne of your videos, and a lot have added something to my game but this one single handedly has improved it the most, so much more consistent...thanks a lot
Probably the best video I’ve ever seen in terms of simplifying the mechanics of the swing and using the ball throwing and frisbee technique visuals and loading the front foot! Wow! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I will be sharing with my boys!
I had taken a few lessons and for the first time in my life I finally had a decent swing. Then I went to the range 2x and something was off, way off. It was as if I had never taken a lesson. I took a day off watched this video and went out to the range. Not only was my swing back, but it was better. Much better. Thanks Danny!
Hi Danny, Just a short note to add my experience with pushing back on the lead foot instead of using the turning concept. I agree but the key to pushing back the lead hip is to ensure pressure is on the front balls of the lead foot when you do so as this greatly adds to the ability to push back the lead hip. If the pressure is on the heel of the lead foot, pushing back the hip is much more difficult to get the lead hip out of the way and creating space..
Danny your videos have made a big difference to my golf game. Within a couple of months, I am a lot longer off the tee and straighter with my irons. I have dropped 10 strokes from my score and now shoot in the low 90s. I now need to clean up my short game to break 90!
Love the videos I come here and learn so much, however, I do not tell my friends about you yet. My handicap went from a 20 to a 12 this summer do far. Every week my game gets better, I am hoping to get to a 10 by September. Danny Maude best instructor videos. Rick Shiels & Jamie Robinson, best review guys. Liam Harrison, best video about golfing with friends and having a laugh. Keep up the videos for us weekend hackers.
After discovering Danny yesterday, I hit the range with a few of his drills for your driver and after half an hour I was driving better than I ever have before. Thanks Danny!
As someone who is teaching themselves how to golf, your videos like this have been instrumental in my rapid success. Thank you and keep up the great videos man.
Thanks Danny! Your explanation is priceless. You explain all the technicalities into layman's terms. Understanding the fundamentals is a lot easier than remembering them!
Really great video, Danny. That move coming down where you sort of sit into your left heel, then push off that left heel while pushing your left butt cheek up and back, that is the key move that we amateurs struggle with. It’s the main power source of the golf swing. And if you get too much weight shifted to the right leg going back, that move is nearly impossible. After watching this video I realized that has been my problem, over-shifting to the right side on the backswing. After just a few swings keeping my weight more centered going back, my ball striking immediately improved. It’s important to note that you do not “hit” the ball with your arms and hands. That simple move of posting up on the left leg, pushing the left butt cheek up and back, is the catapult that whips the arms and club through impact. Excellent video Danny, this is truly the “magic move” of the golf swing! 👍
Danny, I am doing your weight shifting drills even in the bathroom now! But it helps, as a single hcp player, I’ve lost my swing completely due to the Covid-19 lockdown in Holland. But your drills put me on track again and yesterday I won my first trophy this year! Don’t forget your frisbee advise, excellent. Thank you and currently I am promoting you to all of my friends also in the states. Your wife Laura is a lucky lady to have such a passionate golf instructor as her husband. Ok, stay healthy and till the next time! Truly yours, Olly (Holland).
Simply brilliant Danny. This is the best golf lesson I have ever seen and the key to unlock the secret so many of us amateur golfers deperately need. THANK YOU!!!
Danny I'VE been using your training for several years and I have improved in my game. Your "hit the ball then turf" really worked for me and now i'm hoping that the back spine will start to begin. You are my favorite trainer! Thanks!
Hello Sir: I discovered your video today and it made my day. I've been struggling with iron play this summer to the point where I'm not having fun. I took your lesson to the driving range this morning and immediately noticed a difference. I'm looking forward to going back tomorrow to work on it further. Thanks for sharing this video...perfect timing for me and saved me from throwing my clubs into the pond.
Wow...you are the man! Went to the range and tried this and immediately was making crisp contact with the ball! I usually am embarrassed after leaving the range due to all the divots and gouges left behind. Not today....worst shots scuffed the grass a bit but no big divots behind the ball! I have been so weak with my irons (just started back after 5 year hiatus) that I have gotten to the point of frustration. It seems like my 7,8,9 irons were all going pretty much the same distance. Today I just worked with my 7 iron and I m guessing I added 15 yards. I finally have some hope that I can improve. For me the clearing of my left hip seems to be the key. I have had 2 lessons in the last month and neither helped me with this. Can't wait to get some more practice in with these tips! Thanks man!
I have been saying for 7 years now that there is a missing link in my golf swing that is preventing me from improving. This video was exactly it!! I knew it had to be in my timing or transfer in weight. Congratulations, you have finally gotten through to me and I am so excited! I have gained incredible yardage. I mean, so much yardage I have took look twice! My hope has been to be in the mid to low 40's and competitive with my friends and I actually feel like I have a chance now. I also watched your "Best Rotation Drill" which just solidified it all. Thank you so very much!! I will continue to explore your videos.
Thank you, Danny. Many instructors know a lot about golf, but you are a tremendous teacher and I really appreciate that. I’m using your tip about planting the weight on the left leg sooner which opens the left hip up and it’s created more power for me. I also love the tip about straight lines with the legs. Never thought about it that way but it’s helped me from sliding side to side. Thanks!!!
Dear Danny! I have watched all your golf lessons, but this is the really #1 one to me. Easy and clear. I was working on a visual image that could help me to keep me swing consistent, while having a confortable feeling. This image is an arrow (as force vector) going from my right hip to some point in front of the ball, going inside to outside. To do so i realized i that power and balance come from the left leg, as you say, a rotation axis. A very important point to me is also ho to bend the left knee and shoulder rotation. I was just working on it , trying the best way to make space for the swing, and i must thank you a lot because the drill ok turning the bum back was the icing on the cake! Infacts is much more natural and safe than pushing with the right hip. And pulling has more power than pushing, since it creates lag! Thanks again, you are a nice person and a super teacher!
I *think* this is the first time I’ve ever commented on a video but I had to say something. I’ve been golfing since I was 13 (I’m 30 now) and have essentially been a double/triple bogey golfer the whole time. Since I’ve found your channel and practiced all of the drills that you so kindly release for free, my golf game has improved exponentially. I broke 90 for the first time ever yesterday and it’s all thanks to you. You’re the best!! Can’t wait to keep practicing and improving with your drills. I was so excited about my score that I booked a tee time for tomorrow morning. Let’s see if it was just a fluke! Hahah.
Danny!! If I could, id scream to the top of my lungs on how your video on fat and thinning my golf swing has literally changed my game. I’ve been hitting it inconsistently for some time and couldn’t understand why I was continually hitting it thin or fat and I figured it out through the drill where I put all my weight on the front foot. This was super key for me to avoid hitting the ground first
Great lesson as always Danny. Your explanation of pushing the lead hip out of the way is spot on. I had tried for months to twist the hips and found I was still weight back = fat chunks, thin toppers, and slices thicker than a Chicago pan pizza! This video reinforces the same mechanics we use in other sports, so simple when you realize it’s the same muscle groups. Your example of a frisbee reminds me of how much I love watching my grandson throw a ball, toss a frisbee, swing a club - all are him doing what comes naturally and with fluid motion. Thanks for making this game less complicated and more natural.
Did it again Danny. Helping me keep working on that loading the front foot. Just need to get the hips to clear more consistently now. Actually drew my driver yesterday for the first time ever.
I’m playing in a foursomes comp at Cinque Ports on 29th August and might play Canterbury the Friday before, and stay over in Canterbury. If you based at the club I’ll come and say hello.
Danny, just quick kudos for another of your drills which described the "takeoff and landing" airplane analogy to hitting driver and irons. For me, the best imagery I have ever come across on that subject. And one thing for certain for me, it's impossible to "hang back" or not shift weight forward into the shot when you are "landing" the iron shot along the "runway." Other benefits as well. Great going Danny!
Absolute gold, Danny. Will definitely be taking this to the range tomorrow and work on this drill. For actual help in improving at this crazy difficult game, your channel is one of only 2 that I ever take notice of, as you keep the advice as simple as it needs to be. Through watching a lot of the golf fundamentals advice you have posted, I have managed to go from a 28 to 19 handicapper in 2 years (only been playing 4 and a half years). Keep posting these gems. Cheers.
I want to say thank you Danny so much for this video. This has been a real eye opener especially for driver getting the weight on to the left side and still being able to hit up on the ball. Bravo to you. Finally someone explains this in clear exact detail.
Hands down Danny, best vlog of the year so far! Stacked weight on lead and boom, striking irons great, hips seemed to naturally come round and gained distance without thinking about it! Hard to put down in words how it all came together but you’ve done that part! Simple thought yet wicked results! Thank you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the left handed comment, but golf right handed, that's me. I will be trying this real soon. As others have stated, first I have heard of this load the front leg and push back. And describing it to throwing a baseball, genius. Totally natural to understand.
Danny, I followed this advice today while playing my first 18 hole round in 2020. It really helped me hit the ball longer and straighter. This lesson is easy to understand and follow. Thank you!
Danny, you are amazing. Always full of enthusiasm. And you simplify the various aspects of the swing to easy to execute motions. I remain a big fan. My hcp is down to 11 from 17 after I started watching your vids. Thank you!
Thanks Danny. I was using Stack and Tilt but with little success until your drill...I was standing up, leaning back and flicking but now that I have a lead platform and push that lead hip back its working. I was scared I was going to hit the ground still but I just went for it and found it allows me to contact the ball in the right place, keeps my arms straight until way after impact and as a bonus keeps my head from spinning out. Great improvement, straight shots and more distance. Brilliant coach!
Hi Danny really enjoyed this video. I have been struggling with watching video on RUclips but not being able to practice. This then confused me. I am a 28 handicap and unable to play enough/regular. Have been interested in stack and tilt golf. Your video massively helped. Not lots of movement and actually made sense to me. Went to the range and practiced yesterday with decent results by slowing down. Today I played 9 with friends after 6 months and actually kept up. A few dodgy shots but it didn't matter. I really felt this worked on the weight on the front foot practice. Less movement and more hands forward at setup. Thanks very much I am very pleased 👍
Here is the practice the plan that accompanies this weeks golf lesson: www.dannymaude.com/Hit-the-ball-then-the-turf
Such important stuff. Thats the swing right there. Question, its still important to keep tilt through the swing correct? Seems golfers including myself will put a lot of the weight on the back foot to keep that tilt.
Certainly with the driver less so with the irons
Your tips on watching your arm position at impact have improved my iron game big time. Thanks Danny
Thanks Danny! Can't wait to go try this out. This problem accounts for nearly 10 strokes/round. Hopefully this will help a little with my aim as well. Probably another 10 strokes haha.

Danny Maude and John Saguto, 2 of the best golf instructors on RUclips. Why? They simplify rather than over-complicating.
Thanks
Agree. I follow both of them. Stack and tilt concept here with weight on left foot...great video.
Paul Wilson too
Agree. I would add Paul Wilson and Adam Bazalgette.
Totally true! They tell us to feel it. That's great!
Thank you so much for this video. Will be applying this knowledge to the course tomorrow

Danny ….. I’ve seen many a golf video …… but yours is the best by far … you explain it so simple and with excellent tips
Really hope they help Darren
Danny I’ve just realised why you’re such a good teacher. You clearly love what you do! Makes a big difference. 👍
He also is brilliant.
The concept of emulating the feeling of tossing a ball is taking all the anxiousness out of my swing issue. Toss it high, toss it low, short, far, always with rhythm, never short and quick. A friend of mine who is a 4 handicap pro recommended your videos. I've had good help from them, thanks Danny.
That’s great Tyler, really happy to help
Danny,
Another great drill for one of the biggest problems of beginning or amateur golfers. You make things seem so simple and uncomplicated.
You are a great teacher. You put your mind , body and soul in what you do. That is the mark of a great teacher. Thank you. Milan
Thank you Milan, appreciate the feedback

Again.. your golf logic hit it every time.. opened doors and windows to my golf game..
I like the concept of “push back the hip” rather than “turn the hip”. I will repeat this idea in my mind each time I am practicing. Thanks!
Thats great, you will find it happens quite naturally when your pressure is on your lead foot

Danny gives the best , easiest tips to understand. Really like his stuff and it has helped a lot.
Thank you Shawm really appreciate the support
The best instructor on the net.
Appreciate the feedback Todd, I know there are some great coaches here online
this guy explains in such simple terms. I'll give this a try tomorrow at the range!
Hope it helps
Absolutely Larry, things just happen naturally from this position
Danny, I am doing your weight shifting drills even in the bathroom now! But it helps, as a single hcp player, I’ve lost my swing completely due to the Covid-19 lockdown in Holland. But your drills put me on track again and yesterday I won my first trophy this year! Don’t forget your frisbee advise, excellent. Thank you and currently I am promoting you to all of my friends also in the states. Your wife Laura is a lucky lady to have such a passionate golf instructor as her husband. Ok, stay healthy and till the next time! Truly yours, Olly (Holland).
Thank you Olly, great to hear you are back to winning ways. Have a great weekend
Your swing is very concise. It's a really easy and easy to learn swing. The results of the practice were very good. thank you
Finally someone explaining the golf swing clear and simple, thank you!
Hope it helps your golf Jose
Simply brilliant Danny. This is the best golf lesson I have ever seen and the key to unlock the secret so many of us amateur golfers deperately need. THANK YOU!!!
Happy to help 👍
As a new golfer This is probably the more helpful golf video ive seen.
That’s great, good luck
This is the best golf instruction I have ever seen. You are an amazing teacher.
Really kind William, thank you
Danny I'VE been using your training for several years and I have improved in my game. Your "hit the ball then turf" really worked for me and now i'm hoping that the back spine will start to begin. You are my favorite trainer! Thanks!
Great to have you here Frederick
you have solved a swing problem that made me give up ... love your work .. back enjoying golf thank you
Amazing! Thanks for sharing Ollie
Again a cristal clear explanation of the keypoint in golf !
Hope it helps your golf Didier, have a great 2021
Hello Sir: I discovered your video today and it made my day.
That’s brilliant Stephen, well done
Thanks as always, Danny. That push back instruction really clicked with me. Best, Ari
You are so welcome!
BEST INSTRUCTOR OUT THERE!!
appreciate the feedback
Love the simplification of the hip movement. Pushing it back and not "rotating" it really works! Thank you!!
You're so welcome Lan
Love that you mentioned throwing frisbee for left handed golfers playing righty ❤
Hope it helps Joseph
Great explanation & demonstration of the body motion to execute the swing. Best I've seen. Period!
Danny this is one of the best lessons . it is amazing - with demonstrations, simplified explanation Wonderful
Happy to help.
Thanks Danny, I'll try this tomorrow on the driving range.
Have fun Ron
Thanks man!
Thank you Tim, appreciate you taking the time to feedback
I have been saying for 7 years now that there is a missing link in my golf swing that is preventing me from improving. This video was exactly it!! I knew it had to be in my timing or transfer in weight. Congratulations, you have finally gotten through to me and I am so excited! I have gained incredible yardage. I mean, so much yardage I have took look twice! My hope has been to be in the mid to low 40's and competitive with my friends and I actually feel like I have a chance now. I also watched your "Best Rotation Drill" which just solidified it all. Thank you so very much!! I will continue to explore your videos.
Bev Barney lovey to hear 😁
As a left handed I very much appreciate your use of The lead side rather than left or right thanks .
Pleasure William, really happy to help
Thank you, Danny. Many instructors know a lot about golf, but you are a tremendous teacher and I really appreciate that. I’m using your tip about planting the weight on the left leg sooner which opens the left hip up and it’s created more power for me. I also love the tip about straight lines with the legs. Never thought about it that way but it’s helped me from sliding side to side. Thanks!!!
absolutely straightforward and easy to comprehend what kinds of problems armatures usually have, why they are caused and how to fix them.
Thank you George, appreciate the feedback
Thanks Danny, explains why cricketers and tennis players make the transition to golf so easily!
I have learned more from you than any other internet source. You are amazing. Your students are lucky to have access to you.
Very kind Ben, really happy to help
Hahah.
One of the best videos I know on this topic.
Awesome to hear, thank you
Best simple lesson ever!!
Thanks Jeff, hope it helps your ball striking
This was super key for me to avoid hitting the ground first
That’s awesome to hear
Lovely to hear your story about your grandson, we can learn so much from watching kids play sports
What a heureka experience this was! I've known the importance of weight transition for 20 yrs, but not the HOW! Thanks a million!
Thanks Mats 👍
Did it again Danny. Helping me keep working on that loading the front foot. Just need to get the hips to clear more consistently now. Actually drew my driver yesterday for the first time ever.
Hope the video helps, let me know how you get on 👍
I’m playing in a foursomes comp at Cinque Ports on 29th August and might play Canterbury the Friday before, and stay over in Canterbury. If you based at the club I’ll come and say hello.
Thanks Danny. The ball throwing is simple, but clever and effective.
Your videos are superb. The line here that needs to be emphasised - dont get too mechanical, just get a feel for it. That works so well for me.
So important
Danny, just quick kudos for another of your drills which described the "takeoff and landing" airplane analogy to hitting driver and irons. For me, the best imagery I have ever come across on that subject. And one thing for certain for me, it's impossible to "hang back" or not shift weight forward into the shot when you are "landing" the iron shot along the "runway." Other benefits as well. Great going Danny!
1grank love it, thanks for sharing. Very much appreciated
Great lesson as always Danny. Been playing 6 years now and still learning. Thank You
Always learning , thanks for the feedback
Thank you!
Amazing well done!
Danny Maude can’t wait to see just how amazing this Sunday on the course, the range is a different ball park as we all know :)
Azzgar40 oh yes, look forward to hearing how it goes
I’m working this every day. Thanks, Danny.
My pleasure Ralph, really happy to help
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the left handed comment, but golf right handed, that's me. I will be trying this real soon. As others have stated, first I have heard of this load the front leg and push back. And describing it to throwing a baseball, genius. Totally natural to understand.
Thank you, really hope it helps your ball striking
Danny, I followed this advice today while playing my first 18 hole round in 2020. It really helped me hit the ball longer and straighter. This lesson is easy to understand and follow. Thank you!
That’s great Steve, thanks for sharing
Tremendous video Danny. So easy to understand. You really have a gift with this.
Really kind thank you, hope it helps your ball striking
Danny, you are amazing. Always full of enthusiasm. And you simplify the various aspects of the swing to easy to execute motions.
I remain a big fan. My hcp is down to 11 from 17 after I started watching your vids. Thank you!
Thats great! I'm glad the videos are working
Thats awesome news Jane, well done!
Wonderful to hear Lee, well done
wow danny. great teacher. you have me swinging smooth. 100 and 1 BAM
Awesome! Thank you Joe
This single video has shown me more than the previous 20 I’ve watched. Thank you!
Really happy to help
