I've always loved how Jim is the only human on the ship. Usually in sci-fi, ships are primarily crewed by humans with a few different aliens to spice things up. But in this one, Jim is the odd one out. Hell I think Jim and his family are the only humans in the movie
Yea now that you mention humans usually are either the good guys (when aliens are monsters sentient or not like in well Alien) or the bad guys (Avatar the good savage smurfs), And somewhat dominant, it's not often when humans aren't dominant are just there (and perhaps unique in interesting way, since usually in fantasy settings other races are very very humanoid and basicly human with slight tweaks)

BEN did not have a such a purpose and had much of his core sentience removed. Enough to be self aware but not enough for anything else really.

Pepole dont realize it but the animation is incredible (the 2d that is, the 3d was certainly no so great) , the soundtrack (specifically john reznik and the goo-goo doll's "I'm still here") are incredible and the VOICE ACTING of the characters makes the world feel alive. As a Treasure Planet fan, I love you for pointing out the the same little details I had questions about but was always too engrossed in the movie to care about them. One hundred percent approve.
In slight defense to the rigged death trap, the delay could have been made with the intention to catch the would-be treasure robbers off guard and ensure their death, as if the self destruction triggered right away, they could have simply turned back through the portal and bolt it; instead, with a little time between entering and the trap, they would be deep inside the vault and would die trying to escape, like how it happens with the pirate grunts that entered the vault in the movie. The other possibility is that such planet destroying mechanism can't be innitiated instantly and the delay was simply because of the preparation for the self destruction to start.
That's because Disney sabotaged it, the movie released while they were trying to justify pivoting to cgi films. They basically gave it next to no advertising while also making sure to release it in the bare minimum number of theaters resulting in a self fulfilling prophesy where the movie made a profit but fell short of expectations. They did this with other films as well then used it to claim that the public just wasn't interested in traditional animation.

Treasure Planet is a movie that I had faint memories of, that I couldn't ever formulate into a coherent thought. This video just unlocked so many of those memories.
A telescope is very different from a spyglass, including the fact that a telescope is way bigger with a stand, unlike a spyglass which is handheld and small, i don't know how you could confuse the two, and what you're saying is in my opinion more far off from a monocular (which is what he was trying to say), basically being a modernised version of a spyglass you could say, so yeah just letting you know because i don't know what you're smoking but i want some of it, thank you.
To answer your question on the crew most sailing crews did stick to the same boat but when new crew are commissioned it was not unheard of for all of the crew including the captain can be hired separately. Its stated that Delbert had the crew hired while still traveling to the space port for a newly commissioned ship so this is its first voyage in situations like this none of the crew would normally know each other so its a mark to show how clever Silver is to have snuck so many pirates on board and convinced the rest to join him mid journey

What I like about High Boi's videos is that he doesn't just hate on things that he says are dumb- he *specifically* explains why he finds it stupid without dragging out the point. This combined with a chillax recap with his own twist interpretation of the plot makes it a nice video to just watch in the background while doing other things. His videos make great white noise, in the best kind of way.
This masterpiece only made like 2mil or smth like that at the box office when it released but is still better than the vast majority of movies that came after it.
3:23 I actually revisited this movie recently and the crew he hired is more like hired muscle brought on to do any dirty work that might otherwise step over legal boundaries. They're like sellswords or mercenaries hired so that her actual crew's hands don't get dirty with legal ink.
I want to specifically point out that the reason Jim's improvised spaceboard-booster keeps cutting out is because it's the remains of the laser cannon, which seems to function like a revolver and only has limited charges. Loved the attention to detail.
