Those were the days when they wrote SONGS -- and there were the talents to interpret them. Such a terrific set, it's hard to single anything out ... but "Were You Foolin'," "Snuggled," "Close Your Eyes," and "Every Little Star" are very fine.

My favorite is the Denny piece, then the A&o one.

Thank you! I was born in 1942 so missed the 20's. Wish I had been born in 1902! Something in my genes tells me that my grandfather passed something on to me!

Great set and a generously long program, too. "Were You Foolin?" might be my pick among equals.
All I can add is that "Snuggled on Your Shoulder" is a February '32 date with the still undiscovered Jacob Perelmuth, later to become Jan Peerce.

+Paul Lindemeyer Glad you enjoyed this. There is a comment that was posted 5 days ago on this in regards to vocal by Jan Peerce.

Wow, "The Cop on the Street" is just the ticket! What a song, and what a performance! If this one doesn't take you back to the time period, nothing will. Thanks, pax41!

  • @jmccracken1963

By the way, Pinkie Pearl, who sings so well on "Snuggled On Your Shoulder," is but one of the pop-singer pseudonyms of outstanding tenor Jan Peerce (born Jacob Pincus Perelmuth). He did, indeed, get his start in show business playing (violin) and singing with dance bands - and, of course, advanced to quite a career in opera and concert. The voice is unmistakably his.
