- Hello and welcome to Basic Fishing from New Zealand. In this video, I decided to try out the wharf since the weather wasn't too ideal for the beach sessions. My objective was to try and see if I was able to get myself some baitfish with the sabiki but also did some livebait as well as an experimentation. I have to say, today's result was somewhat unexpected for sure.... Can't wait for my next livebait session!

Nice PB from the wharf. Do you get Kingys around that area. Cheers Kevin
i'm not too sure tbh but pretty sure the odd one would turn up
A truck driver told me a story that apparently 5-10 years ago that whalf always use to produce snapper like that. He even said one night they were fishing there that a pod of Orcas swam right up next to the wharf. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the amounts of fish it use to.
orcas that close to the wharf? that would b a cool sight to see haha
@@BasicFishingNZ yeah I was fishing the rocks north of the wharf one arvo a month ago, and a pod headed down that direction.
Yummy 😲😲😲raw fish!!!!😆
oh yes we had raw fish that night
@@BasicFishingNZ Nice.😆 mate
Nice snapper bro
Thank you very much
Nice work great to see, what size hooks do you typically use around wharfs for live baits
well i range the hook size depending on the livebait size but typically i use 4/0 recurve hook. its not too big nor too small but at the same time i prefer to avoid hooking into the undersized fish if i can
Perfect eating size snapper👍🏼
I actually didn’t know you get good fish in there to be honst haha
i was expecting a kahawai tbh instead of that snapper haha pretty sure its only a one time thing lol
Nice fish gg
Thanks for the visit
Nice catch, looks like a nice spot too!
thank you for watching
"Not the biggest" here I am stoked at 45cm ones as if it's a trophy fish! Love the vids man, thanks
thank you for watching
I saw you fishing today
were you fishing in the morning?
@@BasicFishingNZ yes on the other side of the river
ah nice man. it was nice meeting you
What were the livies you were using?
yellow eyed mullet
@@BasicFishingNZ oh nice
awesome snapper from the wharf, on a livie no less!
thank you so much. it was a nice surprise for sure haha
dont add bait to the sabiki, just slowly jig em up n down. its all ya do and ya get plenty
oh tried it here but doesn't seem to work. i personally prefer not to add bait but it seems to attract the bigger baitfish haha
Can you please despatch your fish quicker mate, love your channel but you leave the fish you keep to suffer for too long
