Alot of schools of big ocean going kahawai run along that Coast.. I go further down and use floating pilchards.. usually get there hour before high tide.. burley up and have caught the odd snapper there but usually always a few kahawai which I prefer anyway
thank you for watching! yea on the light setup its really fun. definately helps to send the time waiting for the bigger fish or even better getting a good livebait
oh yea for sure! tempted to try freshwater again hopefully soon lol its been too long since i've caught a trout or any fish on light tackle lure. poor gears been rotting away haha
Beautiful fish. Love spinning for kahawai. May I ask what inline hooks do you use? Brand and size? I want to try some different ones this season as the ones I have been using seem to get thrown by the fish easily when they jump and shake their heads. Cheers
I haven't yet lure fish out west coast beach yet. I usually fish east coast around walkworth. It's kinda sad all you will catch off the beach with lure is kahwai. Would like to target gurnard with lure off the beach is what I am working on.
@@BasicFishingNZ Kingfish will take more stick bait rather than spinner or metal jig. I am trying slow jig off the beach shore slow jigging style. Haven't had caught anything other Kahwai but I did once caught Travelly on micro jig at mangawhai head. Need to find beach where is deep at least 5+M.
All I seem to be catching lately is kahawai! Some pretty big ones at times :) if you were catching to use as bait for future trips how would you preserve it? Filets in the freezer? Or do you salt it? TIA.
well nothing wrong with kahawai haha well recently i've just frozen it whole. you could salt it but personally using it freshly caught was a lot more productive. never done it much b4 but gave it a shot n was worth it (this was on small kahawai not the big ones)
ruclips.net/video/Gcf4BXgMB8Y/видео.html all info will b there. pretty much all the gear i use for light tackle fishing although additional infos in description

cheers for that. yea lot of small kahawai in the surf too which makes it fun to use lures to target them
Awsome video brother 😁at least you're catching fish I'm still trying to catch one from the rocks beach and kayak🤤
haha takes a lot of effort
I’ve been fishing for 2 week trying to catch one
Aye my man with the lures again
its been a while thats for sure.
Nice bro, Looks fun! just remember to let little and big fish go and only keep medium size fish!
Nice.😆 mate good morning 😎
Morning haha
Nice one mate. I love to spin for kahawai too. Subbed :)

Is this close to auckland? Looks like a nice beach to spend the day at
roughly 1 hour away from auckland
Fun way to catch kahawai mate.

We took the kontiki out yesterday night and caught a 54cm kahawai
nice man
nice one!! I should try catching some kahawai with lure as well!! :D
oh yes its a different feeling for sure
Yeah bro that’s the way to do it!
haha u would say that wouldn't u lol definitely more demanding but so rewarding too
Nice catch m8t ......keep safe m8t...

its a mustad 1/0 inline. i prefer the inline mainly cause i've seen/heard horror stories of treble hook ups going extremely wrong haha
Do you think there would be kahawai in at the riverton harbour?
i wouldn't have a clue tbh never been there b4
Nice vid
thank you!
hey dude, nice vid. what type and size hook do u use to replace the trebles?
it was a inline single 1/0
Cool
Great video. Looks like a bog standard 10-20g metal jig right? Do you put any action on it or just retrieve?
just retrieve

well you could get the odd kingfish with the lure too but yea it is a bit annoying that we lack fish species that take lures from the shore haha

What was the second metal lure you use.
forgot the brand name but its a blue and silver
Kahi fishing is always a good time eh
oh yea thats for sure
Kahawai

What aize hook and brand was on that lure?!
it was a 1/0 hook but lure brand im not sure
What lure is that? and what weight? (that blue one with red eye)
the weight is 18g i forgot the brand name and been trying to find more. but if it helps i got it at smart marine
hay man were do u go fishing. my dad is going fishing on a boat and he said that I couldn't go with him and I wood love to catch a kahawi to show him
i try many places from devonport, cornwallis onehunga etc haha so many places its hard to keep up but tbh its always hard work catching the fish haha
When you cast a kawhai lure out does it sit out there till u get a bite or do u wind back to imitate a swimming fish
i wind the lure back in.
I think why is it dropping because its ripping the mouth or spitting it out
Should add the details of the gear used rod/reel, line weight and lure weight.

I had the same lure even with the inline hook, I hooked on too 14 massive Kahawai and lost it trying to pull it from the rocks
ah damn thats unlucky
how heavy is the reel you're using and what pound line do you have on it?
reel itself only weights 249g if thats wat ur asking, its got 10lb braid
Keeping your line super tight while winding them in will stop the hook coming out
yea problem with that is that you can easily rip the hook off too haha
Hey bro seen how far back you were standing in the video ,, next time try standing out far to get out more distance for better luck
Thanks for the tip
Those kahawai are both tiny release them to get the population bigger, unless your desperate for bait, But good content 😂😂
