- In my humble opinion, "This Is The Day..." is PWEI's best. With the ample help of Flood and Youth, Clint Mansell and gang deliver their best album of their relatively short career.

listening to it right now, I hear 1989. Gonna grab this. Digging it, I can really hear that time period.
First album I heard from PWEI. I loved it. My favorite PWEI album. Def. Con One, what a track.
Hearing that track so soon after reading Watchmen for the first time…? Late teen mind completely blown… 😮
This is one of my favorite albums. This blew my 17 year old brain at the time it came out. Big beats, guitars and great samples…totally my jam. Plus it flows so well…almost like a mix tape. I do need to check out the singles…on to Discogs!
My first exposure to PWEI and still my favorite as well… stumbled across the CD of this amongst the stacks of the college radio station I was getting involved with freshman year, and propelled me into this sound that became the theme of my show throughout my time there… having heard nothing like it prior to that (was a radio pop head from birth until my cousin converted me onto 70s prog rock, and then discovered all sorts of styles on my own thru college radio)…
Love that album!!! In my top 5 albums of all time. RADIO PWEI is my fave, with Not Now James my 2nd.
Ha Ha!! Great review.. tower records!! I think when i was in London England 91..I remember going into a huge record store 3 Floors. & bought a sisters of mercy album. Box frenzy album is my collection…good production on it..’there’s no love between us anymore ‘ one of my favs.
PWEI name came from a review of a Jamie Wednesday gig, where the Wild and Wandering were supporting.. W and W being the forerunners of PWEI and 2 of Jamie Wednesday turned into CARTER USM... This album is a classic, but Box Frenzy has a very special part in my soul...
This is the day, was my intro into the poppies tho cure for sanity was and is still my favorite album and also the first time i saw them at Reading Festival 1991, Most of the set was dominated by Cure for sanity! Love their use of samples! got most of their stuff on vinyl from 1986 to 1991. Yes, their sleeves were boss and you know what you're in for when you glimpse at their sleeves!
I'd seen them during the period covered by "Now for a Feast", and saw them live at the Acid Daze Festival in August 1987, where they showcased some stuff that would end up on Box Frenzy. The difference in approach in the new material turned a lot of people off - including me at the time. Later, when "This..." was released, I realised that it wasn't so much an abandonment of their earlier style, as an evolution towards this masterpiece.
I sold the first pressing album for $5 when trying to get enough gas money to go to Lollapalooza 2. I've regretted it ever since (CD just ain't the same). I bumped into the guy I sold it to about 3 years ago when I was at a storage locker where he had all of his vinyl. I offered him $60, and he turned me down.... 😢. This would be in my top 20 of all time, based purely on nostolgia. Thank you for covering their releases.
Edit: your 12 inch collection is unbelievable!
I feel you with Tower Records. The one I used to frequent is a f*****g Whole Foods now. Yes, I would love to see this get a proper reissue.
I think the Tower I was talking about is a cavernous Chinese restaurant now, haha. MORE FOOD LESS ART.
i lean a tiny bit more towards cure for sanity, but this is the day... is a very, very close second best for me
I remember finding the used vinyl of that album at my local Rasputin in Concord, California.. that whole album is a gem! My favorites were inject me, satellite ecstatica, and wake up time to die 🎹🎛️🎤🎧👌 this is messed up sounding I know but I had a pretty bad drug problem with meth and heroin and the last year of my addiction I was using a needle and I would synchronize the beginning of "inject me" right when I would shoot up faithfully I don't do that anymore going on 6 years now but I always think of that when I hear that intro 😵💫
997 subs man.. really close.
Yeah, crazy, right? Some of them might be fake, though. My subs go up and down, it’s weird. I’ve learned that the more popular a channel gets the more bullshit/spam accounts are attracted to it. Either way, it’s close!
