  • @Mohacks

    Good video Tom like always.
    One question,
    I found out that you don't really care about the exact recipe.
    You aimed for 16g, and got 16.5g and was still fine about it.
    For the coffee with the dual spout, you didn't even use the scale, yet also got a good shots
    Also for the single, you were fine with more seconds that wasn't in the plan.
    Do you usually make coffee that way? and should you obsess over little details? or just make coffee like the way you do. in most cases, careless, in a good way

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  9 месяцев назад +2

      Well, I aim for certain weights, but I allow for certain tolerances. I don't like to be too anal about it. But you do have to watch the ratio. Extract too much, and it just gets watery.

    Hello, I watched your video, could I ask you? I have the same De'Longhi machine with a mod for IMS h26 filter, what recipe would be optimal for this machine, how many grams of coffee for how many grams of water? In the video I see that you do a 20 second extraction.?

I'm guessing it's not possible?,would be cheaper than buying a new portafilter and basket. Thanks Neil

    Hi Tom !! I wonder what I do wrong. I find your flow profile quite steady, on my part, it starts like you, but the last 10 seconds my crema is quite foamy (less caramel), it become almost a cone under my portafilter, and the creama desapeear quite fast compared to you. I have de delonghi (so i'm quite a fan of your videos :) ), a bottomless portafilter, usually 18g, for 36gr out in around 26 seconds.. I have a normcore tamper but I dont really have any tools for distribution (I go with my hands). do you hav any ideas ?

    another fantastic video tom! Hey, I dont think there's too much out there, but im sure making the machine a little bit quieter might be a solid video! I'm an electrician and for our transformers, depending on the situation, we'll use vibrations pads...i wonder if we could do something similar for the dedica. Not that it matters much since you'll be using a grinder and steamer soooo it'll be noisy anyways.

    Hello Tom. Sergio from Argentina. I discovered your channel a few weeks ago. I 've been watching your videos since then. Really grateful for your work and all the information you bring. I managed to get a Delonghi dedica 885 (super expensive here in my country) and I am really happy with it. I am now looking for some accesories like a portafilter that allows some good quality IMS baskets. Because I would be importing those, I need to nail it at first attempt. I am currently in between two normcore portafilters: bottomless and dual spout. Which one would be your reccomendation?.

      @TomsCoffeeCorner  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Sergio, thanks for watching! I know that coffee equipment is super expensive in SA. I wonder why...?
      I'd order a bottomless. Then you can diagnose your shots, and also then you have more cup clearance and more space for a scale.
      Where do you import from btw?

      @SergioDanielMDP 5 месяцев назад

      @@TomsCoffeeCorner Thank you for the quick response Tom. I appreciate the recommendation. Certainly, here in Argentina coffee equipment is very expensive. Not easy to understand for foreigners our complicated economy, but mainly due to import taxes and exchange rates when using credit card. I am planning to buy the accesories from amazon US but not directly, here we use an intermediary store, since not many items sold in amazon ship to Argentina.

    This double spout is a pain unfortunately, because on 685 it makes a lot of mess and requires super tiny cups. But you can control speed of the flow much better, making it slower by opening a steam valve

    some argue that espresso coffee machines do not boil water and therefore it can be some bacteria still stay there and enter our coffee. What do you think about it?
    Also what kinds of water filters would you recommend to use with this machine?
    I use Brita and Aquaphor pitcher filters normally. I avoid reverse osmosis system as it cleans all minerals from water and then adds a few which is not enough to avoid corrosion of coffee machine.

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  9 месяцев назад

      Oh, I don't know. I try not to let water sit in the boilers, if I am not using the machine for a while. That is an inherent advantage of these thermoblock machines - they don't have as much idle water sitting in the heating areas.

    Hey Tom, I have a pretty old delonghi dedica ec680. I have the following problem: my bottomless portafilter sprays out the top and turns out of the holder. I noticed that this only happens occasionally. I changed the seal and cleaned the group head. Is it possible that the holder in which the portafilter snaps into place shows signs of wear and that is why this is happening? The machine is quite old and I'm thinking about buying the Dedica again. Thanks for your help

      Well, your bottomless might not be a perfect fit, but I have also seen this happen if the grind is too fine.

      I thought the issue would be away, but unfortunately I have the same problem again. But this time I saw that the Portalfilter is under heavy pressure if I unscrew it. Could it be possible that the machine has problems to keep the pressure on the normal level? Maybe it's because it's old and the pressure is too high. What do you think Tom?

    Hi Tom! I really love your videos especially the ones about the Delonghi Dedica... there is an issue that I have been facing with my dedica and I would really appreciate your opinion on that. it has been a few days that no water comes out of the group head during the pre-infusion and the water flows only after that. any idea on what could be causing that?

      Hmm, has your machine been primed with water? Try letting water out through the steam wand, to get any air out of the system.

      Btw i have issue with my dedica...i bought an used machine, the problem is when i press the steam button & turn the steam dial the steam did not come out from the wand, instead the steam come out from the shower screen. In order to get the steam come out from the wand i need to attached the pressurise porta filter. Really appreciate if you can help.

    If you remove the bottom tray there should be enough space for your scale when using the double spout portafiller.
    Can you do a video on grind quality for the dedica using a hand grinder. When i use my TIMEMORE Chestnut C3 PRO on 6-8 fine setting and place in the open basket, the shot comes out bitter. My beans are fresh roasted 11/5. If i use the espresso level grind, pulling a shot with an open portafiller takes longer for a shot to start too. A video on Grind size for a pressurized basket vs. Non pressurized would help. Thanks

    If there is a way to install a boiler from another delonghi machine would be a very good upgrade for dedica. I think only you can make it happen

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  10 месяцев назад

      Haha, I'm afraid not. No space, and you'd want to sit it right above the PF, as that is where most boilers sit. For that, I'd recommend the ECP 3420.

    • @kinkydevil069
      @kinkydevil069 10 месяцев назад

      @@TomsCoffeeCorner maybe the boiler and the PF sit from ECP 3420 then. I have an ECS 200 and I think I am going to give it a try one day
