What a waste of 7+ mins where he just confirms what other experts say the single spout porta is a waste item. The description of the video is misleading.
👍🏻 we really wanted to try and show the nest way, however it was really hard, but still some advise for those struggling with the single basket
It's not that much of a struggle. I have a single basket that's nearly half of my double dose. I dial in the grind for a double, then figure out through trial and error the correct dose to hit a similar extraction time and ratio. This is with the IMS baristapro "single". It tastes and works great for commercial use, aside from leaving a little mess in the basket.
Somehow Italian cafes manage to extract single shots just as thick and tasty as if they use the double spouts. They don't change the grind size either as far as I see
Yep, it's pure sorcery. I wanna go back
Adding more grams in a single spout as he suggests is what I do here in Italy and it has always worked
@@fafaffu2 maybe, but they don't really weigh it. From the grinder doser, 1 click for singles, 2 clicks for double and that's it
they tend to over fill the basket and it creates a lot of pressure in the head, its not the same as how we want the grind to do more of the work
Sometimes the key is using fresh roasted coffee beans, single shot or double shots you can easily get that thick creama on top and the taste is a lot sourness with a balance of sweetness and bitterness.
So the tips is not using a single shot basket?
Yes in our eyes, sorry we tried. But if it’s all you have make the most of it, but it’s still not our preference
So the answer is: You don’t, always pull a double.
🤜🏻
I agree 100%.
I find when I go with a finer grind in the single, the Espresso doesn't want to come through at all!
Yes it does not like a finer grind due tot he changes is expansion. Check out our other video on single baskets
Title and description don't match the video. The title and description make me think you are going to tell me HOW to pull a single. But, in the video, you are saying do NOT use the single basket. You do not go into HOW to pull a decent single, as the title and description say. So why don't you just say DON"T use the single basket, at the start of the video.
I see no single shot exists in the game ... its only double with 1:2 ratio. Example 14 : 28 or 18: 36 double shot will give a much better flavour and creamer coffee ☕️
so ideally it is recommended to always use the double filter basket even you only want to have a single shot? and to do this, you need to lessen the dose and yield to get the taste of the single shot? example: 11g dose 22g yield single shot / 18g dose 36 yield double shot - both using double filter basket.
Unfortunately, it's not as easy as he says. The more you reduce the dose in the double basket, the further away the shower head is from the grist. This will muddy the puck and increase the likelihood of channeling.
I dose 10 grams in 14grams basket. Ohhh if the puck too low. Use basket screen 😁
Thanks for the tip.
I just failed to make a single shot. Then, this video popped up on my home page and showed me where I was doing wrong. 😂 I'm not changing my grind, (eureka Oro is a nightmare to change once it's dialled in) so it'll just have to be 20g shots for me.
Glad our video could help, understand how to change grind is the key to great espresso, check out our dialing in and brew videos for more help. Cheers luke
Use a Marzocco Strada 7g or VST-7 basket with a 41mm tamp. Profit.
Yes that sound good
Agree, Using a Marzocco Strada 7g basket with a 41 mm dosing funnel designed to fit a 58mm portafilter, then additionally using a finer grind than is typical for a 20 g dose 58mm basket well tamped with a fitted 41mm tamper will deliver a 14 gram espresso far more flavorful than seen in this video. Using the properly designed equipment will give you consistently excellent single dose espressos from a single dose basket. This is the secret to successful single dosing.
In my experience single dosing with the typical manufacturer supplied 7 g basket, using a grind appropriate for a 20 g basket, and a typical 58mm tamper will lead to a frustratingly poor espresso or Ristretto. Once you acquire and use the properly designed single dose equipment, then you will have the ability to access tasty 7 gm dose espressos....a true Italian taste experience. Ciao.
Exactly, he has the answer in his hand but doesn't understand it. La Marzocco designed that filter to tackle exactly this problem
I was trying to pull a single shot of epresso but I cant put more than 8 grams of coffee becauuse it simply cant fit in the basket so I will probably switch to double
Is it possible for a cafe to use single and double baskets at the same time and get about the same result from both?
Nope. You’d need 2 different grinders.
@@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters that is what I have been telling people at work. So embarrassing to deliver an inferior product to the customer.
What is the time you guys find acceptable to use the second shot if you use the double for a single order?
Thank you for great videos.
Thank you
Congratulation on the nice machine you have (Top Notch)the mini is my dream machine but over my budget. Still playing around with the single basket because I drink 3 Espresso during the Day.3 double shoot is a bit over the top. Double basket of 12 gr available?
I really enjoy making coffee with signal basket
I use a pressurized single shot basket with 8 grams of medium ground coffee and push the double shot button twice to give me 150ml of water and my cafe crema couldn't be better.
Pressurized is nab friendly system made for ppl who dont want or have no time to learn how to extract espresso from normal basket. And yea crema u get from it is fake crema.
Good explanation!
Thank much appreciated
I tried 10gram, and a step finer at 12bar of pressure. 4sec pre infution. It comes out nice. Taste is almost same as double but a little less strong.
Great to hear. Coffee is about using what you have and trialling to get the best results.
Interesting another video was suggesting a lower pressure for that smaller puck
You never showed how to use it...
Watch the next video 😊
@@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters Thank you. Will do...
I use a single spout at my cafe. All my shots look like the one on the right. I thought that was normal(?)
Neither of these are perfect, use a straight wall basket and start to get more consistency in your Esprssso
After watching this video and most of your previous videos, I am now using a double spout basket with 10g of coffee but the problem is its challenging to get a nice distribution and compaction of ground into the basket. What is your suggestion?
Are you using a dosing pot? Or any type of distributor tool? Also is the 10g in what size double basket?!
@@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters I.m using a plastic dosing pot and OCD. By the way, from yesterday, as an impact of your video, I have changed my cafe's standard recipe to: for a single-shot 15g coffee:25g espresso; and for a double-shot 18g coffee: 40g espresso. I'm in Nepal and it's very normal that customers ask for a single or a double shot. I'm no more using the single spout portafilter. What do you think about my new recipe ? Your guidance ad suggestion would be highly appreciated. Thank you, Luke, and the team ACR.
Tack!
