Life in an Off Grid Yurt... in four locations

- We have lived in our yurt for five years in four different locations. In that time, we have learned so much.
Now, for the first time, it sits on our own land, providing us a stepping stone for our next project.
We go over commonly asked questions, and give advice for folks looking to follow a similar path. Thanks for watching!

Youz reminded of my fave Zen saying:
Before enlightenment, you must chop wood and carry water. After enlightenment, you must chop wood and carry water.
Be well you two!
Right on Gill, thanks for that!
We have a couple yurts in the interior of Alaska. My biggest complaint is outside noises. If there’s a neighbor with noisy dogs nearby; it’s nerve wracking
Sure is! We’ve had that neighbors dog too!
My neighbor lives in a yurt. It’s really cool!
So beautiful, sweet friends!
Thanks, Gracie 🥰✨💚
Thanks for sharing you guys! I saw your interior hand pump....is that going to a rainwater collection cistern or did you do a shallow water pump?
Hi David! At the time we had a external water storage tank (250 gallon) that we would refill about once a month from a nearby water source
AbsaFruitly Lovely could you please go into more detail about the zoning an permitting an your bathroom situation that they allowed? We are so ready for our own place but want to buy the right land an setup a similar home if you have already answered these somewhere else please steer me there!? Hope all is well!
Our county approved a Sunmar composting toilet for our yurt. Paid the permit fee and that was that!
Genghis Khan shunned palaces, preferring to live in a yurt.
It's all about getting that land.
Sure does!
Very nice
Thanks!
Lovely situation. Do you work where you live or do you commute? Cheers from Victoria, British Columbia.
Also I love that you've been able to move this so often. For the base do you have plans available? Or was this provided from Pacific Yurt? Thanks again!
We used Pacific Yurt platform plans: www.yurts.com/downloads/ We reconstructed our platform with the same materials every time we moved and that worked well. With our fourth and most recent build, we tried a different method of insulation, so we added some new materials. You can see what we did in our video ruclips.net/video/QDM_AkF2I88/видео.html Thanks for watching!
Lovely set up but ; what purpose does the trellis interior surround have , just curious ??
The lattice is structural
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ жақсы тамаша
Omg, please tell me what counties permit this! 🙏
Some do, some don’t. The more rural the better chance!
When you chose your yurt, did you consider any other brands?
We were tempted by brands using more natural fibers, but those were outside of our price range. At the time that we were shopping around, we were living in Oregon, so Pacific Yurts was nearby. This saved us money on shipping costs, and they offered helpful and friendly service!
@sam_zach hi! Just found your channel and we are looking unto yurts also looked at some natural but they are I Canada and honestly outside of the price being more I worry 2020 replay hits and our yurt is stuck across boarders. It was a 21 ft, how much space would you say the 20 gives you? I thought about going with a 24. Little more room there will be 3 adults and 3 kids in ours. Do want it to be easy enough to move in a few years if need be. I see also instead of a deck you did blocks.
What about mold? I never hear anyone talk about that problem
We’ve had ours for 7 years. No mold
Anyone ever told you you look like Eve Kilcher from Alaska Last Frontier?
I think I’ve heard that before!
What size is your yurt? It looks like 24 but it's always hard to tell.
Hi Jeffrey! It is 20 ft in diameter, and we have always been glad that is the size we chose.
What is the dimension?!
I am looking for about your product place lace me a message . When I post this , I am looking for more information on this ,
And I just want to know how much did
Yurt cost
Hi! We purchased our yurt from Pacific Yurts and the prices for their yurts are listed here: www.yurts.com/standard-custom-features/
What size iz the yurt?
20ft diameter
I live on the west coast of Australia and it doesnt snow so it would be perfect for where id like to live which is south of the city where its colder but no snow
Sounds great Peter. A drier, less cold climate accommodates a yurt nicely.
how about wind balance
Not sure what wind balance is, but I think we have it 🤙🏼
I prefer real walls. You can breaking with a surrated edge.
Thanks for sharing Marcie!
Why do you need a permit from the county? It's YOUR PROPERTY. County has NO ownership or interest in your property. Learn your rights.
What are those rights? Lol the only right Americans have are the right to remain silent 🚓🚨👮♂️👮♂️👮♂️👮♂️
Do you have the phone number for the York company there in Hawaii
Sure does
