I bought one almost 10 yrs ago from some guy that had it sitting on his side yard.. Its a kit from 77, on a 74 vw chassis and trans. I have been working on it ever since. Trying to build it in such a way that it will look like the original 35b type. Dad owned 3 of them back in 76 that he used to promote his new business. I 1st learned how to drive a stick driving this around town. My brother used to drive me everywhere, I rode shotgun. Such a FUN CAR! It was very cool showing it off too!!!! Kudos on this purchase! You're going to have a blast running around town! You get looks from EVERYONE!!!
If that is the engine that came with that pan, you can run the numbers stamped under the generator stand on the Block to find year make and model information. Clutch adjustment is really easy, there's a wing nut on the clutch Fork. Just leave a little free play at the top. Awesome video guys, love your Channel:-)

Your front end has kingpins, which means it is a 65 or earlier. Should be a VIN stamped on the tunnel right in front of inspection cover (and behind shifter). I also had a Bugatti kit like this years ago. So much fun to drive and always gets looks.

How freakin’ cute was the sound of baby Lily bangin’ through the gears?! 🥰 Years from now I think you’ll look back at this episode in the same way you look back the episode from 6 years ago when “the kid” was helping you wash your car. My vote would be to make it legal, safe and reliable and have fun driving it some. What you choose to do next will become clear after you drive it for awhile-enjoy! That fuel tank is priceless! The toddler’s first motor sounds were so cute! Good job!
Way cool and fun. Leave it Junky but safe / reliable enough to drive. Driving junk can be fun. Being a challenge to get anywhere is part of the fun. Is there a VIN anywhere on the VW frame, or what's left of it. Might give a clue for a year for brake lines/parts. Wheels look '66-'67 ish. Truly a fun build. Great job!
You can just take the parts back to a local Advanced Auto instead of mailing the return unless you don't have a local store. I worked at AA for near a year and we had that all the time. Just a suggestion. Love the channel
some old 40s style "stop" lights would look neat on it as well as a rack for a picnic basket on the top rear, spare on the side, mock up hand crank, and a rack over the fenders to put like a tent an sleeping bags for a camp out would would cool, just couple iders tossed your way

That is GORGEOUS. I am torn between suggesting leaving the paint completely as-is for patina & what not, and suggesting a Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang inspired paint scheme. If you ever sell it, I want to be first in line!! Congrats on getting it moving (& stopping) under its' own power!

Build a 2180cc engine with dual port heads and all the hop-up parts used in dune buggy engines of that era. It would REALLY do a burnout then! Lily is obviously going to be a gear head just like her aunt. The laughing and giggling during the test drive was priceless! I would love to see it eventually being fixed and painted so it’s kinda pretty.
Don't you just love the new "safety" gas cans. I absolutely hate them. I have that exact same can Emily was trying to fill the Bugatti with. After struggling with it the first time i tried to fill the lawn tractor and getting more gas on the ground than in the mower, I "fixed" my gas can with a zip tie, keeping the handle compressed at all times so i didn't have to fight with it while trying to fill up the mower. Now I just wish it would pour faster.

Just pipe dreaming folks, it is such a sweet ride, I want to see more! Now finished the ride part of the video, and what fun that was! Personally I'd keep the patina, clean it up a bit and seal it, then make a some sort of front end over the suspension/bumper thingy that flows with the over-all design. For clearance on the front fenders, just raise them enough? dunno, can't see too much from here eh, and as to the rear, I'd hammer out some wider wheel fenders (like by 2"-4"), and stick slightly bigger tyres on there. Its such a beauty as is it though, and I think its look is sublime, and that slowly upgrading everything under it, ie. suspension, drive train, brakes, would take it to another level. That BUGGatti is really coming along nice. Just do a little sanding and primer find the windshield and make it safe (plug gaps, seatbelts bolt check) then send it.
Agree with the goggles and scave, add in the old style leather (can be faux) helmt. I have one that is used some times when I'm out in the T-bucket. Make it reliable and drive it like it is. That is a neat little car. Your nieces would have a great time learning to drive in it.

Love it! Suggest just a few additions to "clean" it up a bit (like a front splash apron to hide the front cross member and fenders back on) while leaving the patina. Sweet!

I think it's great that you got it running and are have fun with it. If it were me, now that it is running I would make the chassis into a dune buggy and build or modify another frame, use straight 6 Chevy engine and build a Bugotti replica with that body. I just thing the sound and power of the 6 cylinder would suit the body and "look" better. Just my opinion. My wife and I enjoy watching you guys. Y'all make us feel like we are there and going along for the ride. :)I
Hey Arron here a tip I learned from my grandfather back in the early 60's for a one man brake bleed,requires one 6 0z oil squirt gun and a short piece of brake line hose then you open the Master and hook the hose to the nozzel on the squirt and and fill it with brake fluid then attach the hose to the loosened brake bleeder and squirt the fluid up to the master. easy peasy one man or woman job
I understand that it's junk, but I would get it back on the road legally, just to be able to drive it. What a grabber. :) Might have to paint it though :)
Now I can't get Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to quit playing in my head. I'd see how many buffing pads it can clog up. It's shiny and red under that fuzzy pink.

I used to own a Meyers Dune Buggy I don't believe that the pedals were supposed to be one-size-fit-all but a lot of people just drove it that way if you're going to drive it any distance once I ended up driving my Doom buggy up and down the coast of Florida for several years you got to make this sitting situation steering situation and pedal situation comfortable it's just a matter of piddling around with it I ended up with the steering column out of a Chevy Vega with tilt steering in mine great video keep up the good work y'all

I have been following this build since the beginning, it looks to me like this was one of your most fun projects ever. There should be a serial number stamped on the floor pan at the center rear of the pan , this will tell you the year of chassis. Enjoy!🎩😄
As the owner of a couple of old bugs I will affirm that they are hard to kill. I once bought two of them for $500 for the pair and over the course of a week took the “best” parts off of them and made one driver. Still had a steering box that was so loose so it was like steering a boat trying to keep it between the lanes but it ran. I drove it for two years in college. Didn’t go far but it got me around town. I sold the remain parts to the junk yard for $250 so I only had about $350 in it after I bought tires and brake shoes.
My friend Richard has one like this or did all redone. I like to see that you actually get in there and work on it. My daughter is the one that is very into old cars and I do mopeds and cycles

Worth looking into replacing the shifter bushings...probably very worn out.

A pair of vintage looking bucket seats, a set of vintage looking spoked hub caps, and a lick of paint will make a huge difference.

I used to own a Meyers Dune Buggy I don't believe that the pedals were supposed to be one-size-fit-all but a lot of people just drove it that way if you're going to drive it any distance once I ended up driving my Doom buggy up and down the coast of Florida for several years you got to make this sitting situation steering situation and pedal situation comfortable it's just a matter of piddling around with it I ended up with the steering column out of a Chevy Vega with tilt steering in mine great video keep up the good work y'all

I have been following this build since the beginning, it looks to me like this was one of your most fun projects ever. There should be a serial number stamped on the floor pan at the center rear of the pan , this will tell you the year of chassis. Enjoy!🎩😄

As the owner of a couple of old bugs I will affirm that they are hard to kill. I once bought two of them for $500 for the pair and over the course of a week took the “best” parts off of them and made one driver. Still had a steering box that was so loose so it was like steering a boat trying to keep it between the lanes but it ran. I drove it for two years in college. Didn’t go far but it got me around town. I sold the remain parts to the junk yard for $250 so I only had about $350 in it after I bought tires and brake shoes.
My friend Richard has one like this or did all redone. I like to see that you actually get in there and work on it. My daughter is the one that is very into old cars and I do mopeds and cycles
