Many many years ago a buddy of mine inherited one of those from her grandmother when she passed... Of course our crew of young men got together in a barn and put a mildly built 340 6 pack in it with a few other goodies .....That little Plymouth taught a lot of guys about sleeper granny cars

Darn, that little 273ci Mopar sounds great. This has to be one of your easiest will it run and drive and stop episodes yet. In it's day the styling was very unique for the time. I was just in my beginning 20s when this model came out. A pretty solid body for a Canadian vehicle. I am sure someone will give car a thorough restore if you decide to pass it along. Hot and humid here in East Texas, I hope your summer has been good to all my Canadian friends.

I Just LOVE 60's/70's Mopar's. You appreciated it enough to buy the dern thing. In 1965 it was the 1st year they offered the Valiant with a V-8. It's a 273 most likely, unless the owner changed the motor at some point. Production numbers are low with less than 10k made. One thing i noticed was a single jar master brake cylinder. They are DANGEROUS. You have a Gem there Brent. Thank you for taking us along

May be the oil pressure sending unit leaking... easy fix once you get behind the engine and locate it- would also account for the low pressure reading. You also appear to have a little vacuum leak, maybe around the carburetor base;Want a little kick ?? If you can find the parts, when and if you rebuild it, change it over to the 273 high performance pistons and four barrel intake with a small Holley and a little hotter hydraulic cam( the solid lifter 273 Commando was hard to keep the valves adjusted in) and weld up a dual exhaust system, engine back. Convert it to electronic ignition, eliminates the hassle of the points- run it on a little higher octane - and it's a go !!

You scored an awesome car. Valiants and Darts are, from this generation, basically the same great car. The Mopar smallblock is almost as bulletproof as the Slant-6.
You stated that you are not a Mopar guy; this car will make you a Mopar fan. Notice the lack of coil springs up front - Mopars use torsion bar front suspension. For safety, you need to repair that rust where the driver's side torsion bar attaches roughly under the driver's footwell. Make sure it is solid where the torsion bar attaches to the structure of the unibody, otherwise it would have the same effect as losing a coil spring in a more conventional suspension. Overall, the car is in great shape. Barracuda shares lots of parts so reproduction sheet metal is available for most Mopar A-bodies.
My first car was a Plymouth Duster (a Valiant with a fastback body) with a 340-4bbl. Aftermarket oil pressure gauge; the line broke inside the car. Nothing like trying to pull over in city traffic while you're getting your crotch deep-fried in hot engine oil being pumped into your lap. LOL... You think the Mohel was bad?
Add a PCV valve. The oil will stay a lot cleaner (it's not just an emissions device!). There was an aftermarket GM HEI knockoff meant to fit Chrysler V8s, the car will be drastically better, or you can install MSD or Mopar Performance electronic ignition; again, the car will run a lot better. Add a double-coil throttle return spring, also for safety.
If it's an automatic transmission, you probably have a 904, but you might have gotten lucky with a 727. Either one is really great, but the 727 is stronger. Just change the fluid, it will just keep on going.
You can replace the left-handed lugnuts and studs. It was a good idea - self-tightening lugnuts - but a lot of tire shops and mechanics didn't understand it and broke them.
For saving that beautiful car, toda raba.

Cool Car in really not very bad condition, seems like a good candidate for a repair/restoration or something more special, would like to see it👍

    Brent,
Good thing the Valient is light since you have to wrestle it alone.
