      My pleasure! I am glad you liked that, hope to be able to get the additional lots tested on video. I have a hypothesis that I will state when I do the next test...based off an observation from this lot of ammo. We'll see if I am on to something.

    HMS, I had the same issue in 2015 when I bought some Federal Gold Match 38 WC ammo to test in Australia before I went to the NPSC with Aussie Bob. I machine rested it in 5 barrels 1:24, 1:16, 1:14 and 1:10 in K Frames and in a standard L frame. Nothing better than 9 ring groups in any of the guns, but handloaded HBWC with 3 grains of Bullseye was X ring.
    I ended up using power factor jacketed 125gr loads from Zero at the NPSC that year.
    Thanks again to your wife for loaning me her off-duty L frame so I could shot that match, very appreciated. I hope to get back to the NPSC one day, I am hunting 2 points to get my Distinguished Revolver qualification. In the mean time I hope you all are well. Please remind me to John P. Regards Ross P

      Howdy Ross, glad you found me! Amazing how bad the quality control has gotten for what is supposed to be match ammo. I do hope you get to come back Stateside for the Nationals again, Bob is here now and I should see him in just under 2 weeks at our State Championship.
      I'll tell John P and the missus that you say hi. Take care, we'll see you at the matches.

    Nice to be able to do that testing. Been behind on all video views , on roadtrip & just drove close to your range i think , Phoenix to Alberquerque

      There is a real nice range just outside of ABQ where we used to shoot the Nationals. The ABQ Shooting Park. Drive safe, thanks for watching!

    Evening Halfmile, a bit late family stuff. Well then can't trust current production Win, for quality? Do a better job Win Arms. Good test explains alot. Wonder if most current manufacturers are suspect aswell. Thanks Halfmile you always hit the White Bison. Randy!!👍

      I can condemn all the ammo yet...only this lot number. As I said, it was mixed brass... commercial and military. That seemed off...checking this shipment there are several lot numbers with one other lot being mixed brass and the remaining lots all commercial. I definitely have more testing to do. This lot I just tested is only practice ammo now.
      Thanks for watching.

    That is really neat. I had never seen this done before and I can really see the advantage of it. With some of my pistols I have no idea if it is me, the gun, or the ammo. This certainly helps eliminate some of the guess work. Thanks again for showing this.

    • @Halfmilesniper

      I will have to do a video on the rest and how it functions. It definitely tells you if it is the ammo or you. When I had 2 bad runs at the 50 in a row, before getting mad at myself I knew to test the ammo.
      Tha js for watching, I really appreciate it.

    It's aggravating to get a batch of bad ammo. But, at least you figured it out before a competition.

    • @Halfmilesniper
      @Halfmilesniper  2 года назад +1

      Ammo inconsistency can make for a rough day in competition that is why a Ransom Rest is such an important tool. We'll see how the other lot numbers function...betting there will be some good stuff in the mix.

      They are a great tool for checking accuracy of ammo as well as accuracy of the gun. It was with the Ransom Rest that I determined my barrel was actually worn out as it couldn't hold a decent group with GOOD ammo from the Ransom Rest. Good ammo was giving me a 5-6 inch group, then I looked with the borescope...wow.
      Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.

      These are a very handy device to have when testing handgun ammo. It is the only way to eliminate the human error and get consistent aim point and trigger pull (with zero sight disturbance) to show true accuracy of the gun and ammo. I appreciate you watching, thanks.

    Hi HMS. Those two types of ammo are night and day apart. Would have loved to have use of a Ransom Rest but never saw one in UK. Do you always shoot factory ammo in matches or do you also handload?

    • @Halfmilesniper
      @Halfmilesniper  2 года назад

      I shoot both, factory and home rolled ammo in matches. I have a couple recipes for 9mm and .38 spcl that do a good job. All ammo whether factory or handload gets a spin in the ransom rest to ensure it is good enough for a match. Very time consuming though.
      The first batch tested is now relegated to 25 yard and closer practice. Too worried about those wild fliers it had at 50.
      Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.

    Now is when you wish you had bought 20 more boxes of that lot #. I think a lot of manufacturers have switched to different powders to save them a few dollars. Accuracy & dependability has suffered. Good to see you had good help on this one.

      I didn't ask Pati but I bet she still has several cases of that stashed, she only uses that ammo for the 50 yard line for reasons...

      @@Halfmilesniper I've been known to use the Random Rest. A random range bag or backpack. Even a random Stetson crown but I make sure the barrel extends past the crown. 🎇 In the late 60s or early 70s Dad bought a Remington 700 in 25/06 & was shooting it across the hood of his Jeep using the cloth rifle case as cushioning. Muzzle blast took a big chunk off the cloth case. Learning experience. 😆

    • @Halfmilesniper
      @Halfmilesniper  2 года назад

      @@billdye3530 I have used a lot of random stuff as a rifle rest myself. I might have used a bag once or twice to steady a pistol shot but I'm not sure that helped. Yes, anytime you're shooting off an improvised bag/rest muzzle blast and sight over bore are a couple big considerations...or you get a fun surprise.

      Glad you liked it! On my first run shooting the 50 I didn't think much about seeing as it was my first attempt after no pistol work since September...I can have a bad day, now and then but when I shot another ugly 50 yard group I jnew we needed to test this stuff. Sometimes you just know when the ammo is "off".
      Thanks for watching.
