Добавлен 22 июн 2007
Hey y'all, my name is Mike, AKA: Halfmilesniper. I'm a Jack of All Trades, Master of None and I hope to bring y'all along for the ride with me as I bumble my way through retirement.
A little about me, I retired in 2016 after more than 30 years in the US Border Patrol. I was a member of the Border Patrol Pistol Team and still shoot in pistol competitions. I addition to competitive pistol, I shoot long rifle for fun. and draw my user name from my longest shot (actually a tick over 5/8th of a mile).
Besides shooting I do a little work on guns and reload ammunition. Outside of the shooting world I cook and homebrew beer I also do some woodworking and carpentry. I even do automotive work and have dabbled in welding too. As I said, a Jack of All Trades.
Feel free to come along for the ride.

Back on the home range time to rezero
Now that we are home and back on the home range it's time to rezero. We'll reshoot the same load we shot in Raton with the suppressor and see how it does. We'll also take another look at the Sunwayfoto T4030 CSi tripod.

Supposed to get my Howa tsp-x in 2 days.. can't hardly wait! I've been enjoying your videos anticipating developing a load for it. Thank you
Hope you enjoy it! I have had fun building loads, some working well some not so well, lol. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.
Hi, great video. How many bullets do you think you put through the rifle.
I honestly don't know, this was shot way more than your average hunting rifle and long before I started actually counting rounds...best guess is well over 1,000, likely more.
Cool video thanks I subscribed and liked the video
Thanks for subbing! I appreciate you watching and the sub. Welcome aboard.
Got the notification two hours after you went live, and was already in bed by that point, so watching it now .
Thanks, curious how so many didn't get the notification yesterday...hmmmm...back to their tricks it seems.
you need a read bag even with a tripod bc of the flex in the tripod. if your sitting u can hug a bag. standing, youll need 2! lol
I do need one of those nice soft bags...one of these days I'll get one.
@@Halfmilesniper a old pillow/clothes and a backpack works in a pinch. while hunting i usually use my backpack. better than nothing. thanks again for sharing. cant wait for more videos with the lapua brass
👍👍 Thanks Halfmile, you do a great job on your shooting videos.
Thank you, I appreciate hearing that...playing the one man show isn't the easiest, especially when it is most a one take kind of deal. Many times I can only "hope" everything is in frame or working.
Man you have some awesome gear. Thanks again for sharing
Thanks Jerk. Most of my stuff is, or has been, amassed over time, changed or upgraded as I can. Have all y'all watching is definitely helping with those changes and upgrades and I really appreciate that,
@@Halfmilesniper keep up the good work

Thanks for watching , I really appreciate it.
I've thought about trying out the lapua brass for the 338, but 350 bucks for 100 pcs of brass is a bit much for my wallet. So far so good with the ppu brass i have leftover from the blue box ammo.
I never thought I would ever be able to try new Lapua....but I kept looking around and found a smoking sale on the brass at Scheel's online store. I got 100 pieces for $150...normally $250 IIRC...I can't imagine dropping $350 for 100 pieces. Keep watching for a smoking sale, they happen once in a while.
Welcome back home. Nice to see your rig so well dialed in. Hope I can catch your next live stream.
My next live will be from the hotel...most likely once I get to Mississippi. I will be hitting the road in just a few. Hopefully I can get to stop #1 in time for WTW's show this evening.
Hi Halfmile , You could tell just how uncomfortable You looked when You shot the prone group. You did well considering the amount of dust kicked up , maybe next time You could use a trigger spray full of water to just damp it down a touch , I hate to think of how much of that dust got onto the objective lens of Your scope , hopefully the sun shield will have kept most of it off . Thanks halfmile catch You next time , Shoot Straight Stay Safe & Stay Well.
I do believe thesun shade helped keep a lot of the dust off the objective. I really had to work to get down into the rifle...but, as I said, that was an exercise to show how low the tripod could go...not necessarily the shooter, lol. Even though I was contorting to get into the rifle that low I still managed to keep it sub-MOA...barely, but still less than 1.047", lol.
Sorry I missed the live - no notification again 😒. Watched the replay though.
No problem 😊I hate when y'all don't get a notification just about as much as when I don't get one. I appreciate you watching Gort. I wonder if the view count is low from more folks not getting a notification???? Hmmm.
And you can use tripod for limbo !
LOL, just need the limbo music, lol
I dont know but you may be getting a few xtra fps with chrono sitting on ol shaky ! Lol
Lol, we'll see what the table haters have to say on this one. Ha!
Hey, don't pick on the table, I like it..😊
👍Halfmile. Thanks
Thanks for watching Mike, I really appreciate it.
Hey everyone
Howdymike, good to see you
My knees are crying in pain just seeing that tripod like that. 👍
LOL, they only burned getting into the prone...and only for a second or two. This tripod goes unbelievable low.
@Halfmilesniper Twenty yrs ago I could lay flat on my stomach. Now I'm 4inches higher up & need a come-a-long attached to a tripod to get up. 😂
@@HalfmilesniperI was waiting to hear Off in a cloud of dust rides the retired border ranger 😂. Fps was very consistent. Just noticed today Ramshot has a new Grand magnum rifle powder. Possibly the muzzlebrake kept the dust storm down? Great tripod! 👍💪🇺🇸🎯
Just your knees? Nearly tore my sack just watching that 🤣🤣🤣
@@billdye3530 someone else recently mentioned Gran Magnum by Ramshot...said it was pretty new. I'll have to keep an eye out, maybe I'll find some at Van's in Pearl.
Hit the like button and it still says zero!! Stupid RUclips.
I saw a subscriber count drop the day before yesterday, now it has crawled back up. Weird things are happening.
With Large Rifle Primers so hard to get do think loading with Large Rifle Magnum Primers is a safe alternative?
Great question. I believe it is as long as you don't just change to the magnum primers. You have to rework your load...if you are near max with your basic load using a magnum Primer can put you well over.
Have you tried any Ramshot Grand in 6.5 PRC?
No I haven't, in fact I've never seen that powder. Maybe I'll find some on my road trip coming up.
There is a good article in the 2024 Hodgdon reloading manual. It’s a new for this year. Enjoy all your videos.
Don't remove the the copper their is nothing wrong with that stop being a old fuddy fuddy never clean mine in years still shoots Dead on stop dreaming about it the only thing you need to keep clean is the action your bolt and your body have a nice Day not to many days left the way things are going..
While that is working for you, for me this rifle stopped grouping...bad enough I even missed a deer. After scrubbing and re-seasoning with some light copper from shooting it is once again grouping under an inch and right where I aimed. On my rifle it definitely needed to be scrubbed, and now it'll last me well past my hunting days I imagine.
When I was a kid back in 1973, my father used to buy things similar to this but were dinosaurs, from a place called the oak tree,( kind of like a cracker barrel today), In Vacaville, California. On his way home from the Bay area. They were a lot of fun.
I remember those dinosaurs...they were still around when my boys were into dinosaurs...Bought quite a few when they were younger, lol.
👍👍cool rubber band gun.
It is pretty cool, too bad I couldn't get chrono data for the rubber bands though, lol.
Looks like a lot of fun. Talk to you tonight.
Thanks, we'll see you this evening.
That’s goin to be to much fun now
It has been...I still have a neat pistol to build too.
Halfmile hey
Hey Randle
Halfmile I'm sending the kids Christmas presents that need assembled to you( ha, ha ). Great video
LOL Les...I seem to always get tasked with that chore.
👍Halfmile Doesn't resemble my first rubberband gun. But still made me think of the old days ! Thanks
Same here...but this one is now sitting in my bookcase, locked and loaded and ready to launch rubber bands at a moments notice, lol.
That's the coolest rubber band gun of all time! Part 2 "Paint & Stain!😅❤❤❤
Mini GP sent a 2nd one which I think is cooler...I just haven't put that one together yet...I will and I'll try to shorten the video time a bit more. I think it looks pretty neat "au natural"

You related to J.M. Browning? A lot of his original models he made out of wood & then his brothers did the diagrams before building the real deal. Nice work & congrats on your patience. Nice! 👍🙏
Thanks for the info, I'm not too sure many knew about him building wood mock ups. I felt I only needed patience while working with the thinnest pieces...like the one that broke when I picked it up, lol. Glad I found that the repeating loading wheel was in backwards as early as I did...guess it was a habit of working on the real deal that made me double check before going farther.
@Halfmilesniper When you started pulling out panels of parts I just said Ohh Hell I'm glad I'm not trying this 😂. I can't pick up & grasp stuff like that anymore. Be splinters everywhere! Colorizing the next step? Then glass display case-Locked. 👍🙏
@@billdye3530 The parts where cut very cleanly by laser, I don't remember seeing/feeling any splinters. The grip panels are laser etched to look like checkering, I think I am going to leave it as is and keep it on the bookshelf behind me so it'll show up in any live streams.
@Halfmilesniper Will look good during filming. On splinters I meant with my Arthritis everything would be in splinters. I can't wait for the red dot kit to attache to it or drum magazine lol. It's just a cool item. 👍
Hey Halfmile... is it more puzzle or toy?
I think it is more puzzle like, but for younger kids it probably leans towards the toy category. Either way it makes you think and reason a few things out as you build it. It did take me less that the projected build time in the instructions, as I would expect anyone with mechanical ability could knock it out in less than an hour.
Howdy Yall
Hey there Charles...great to see you.
Well, it's about 1 pm Eastern right now, and this premiere is still showing up. Is it monetized still? That's a lot of pieces in that home built short barreled critter.
So far it is, lol. I might have even attempted to chronograph this thing, lol
A lot of patience 😁😁 That I don’t have. I would have tossed in the trash after 15 mins lol Hat is off to you 🤝🤝
@@JCJustice-kv2gy While there were a lot of pieces it was kind of relaxing putting this together...other than the worrying about breaking a part that didn't have an extra, lol.
Excellent video! Kept it cool and still scored well.
There is plenty for you to study in this one...preparation for what iyou'll be experiencing in the next couple weeks, lol.
I forget the exact distance, but Garmin says that the velocity is picked up at so many feet from the muzzle and calculated to what it should be at the muzzle.
Obviously there is a small wizard inside each unit doing the calculations...I just hope they get enough to eat to stay alive, lol. I cannot say enough good about the Garmin, it is so simple and easy to set up and no more worry about shooting the chronograph, or having to consider sight over bore...which may have gotten me once or twice, lol.
I've been trying the Staball match with 129 gr Hornady SST in 6.5 prc, 24 " barrel . Seems to be settling down around the 48.7 gr loads . Not there yet i'll let you know how it goes . I just wanted to say thank you for this video and your information .
Thank you and thanks for watching. I will be testing some 144 grain Berger Hybrids soon with the Staball HD...
More videos please
As we are coming back up to our deer season here, we will more than likely be heading out to the mountains as we were lucky and got drawn for doe tags this year. There will be more video on the hunting area and hunt soon.
I usually stop at a Chinese restaurant on the way to the range and pick up a coolie to set my targets so I can keep my heart rate down.
LOL...made me think of that picture of the PRC Army guy sitting in a chair holding the rifle target overhead, lol.
"It wasn't your skills, but the powder. The H4831 doesn't completely fill the case, causing the powder to shift inside and leading to inconsistent ignition. I managed to load 54.6 grains in a 6.5 PRC Hornady cartridge, also shooting 147-grain ELD bullets. Getting inconsistent results
I eventually got to 54.3 grains and that shot OK...playing with seating depth didn't change much...I was consistently .6 to .7 inch groups. I did get some H4831sc recently that I will load soon.
Great test thank you!!!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching, I appreciate that.
Do you always sky load? Dangerous habit.
Good point, but if you noticed the barrel's angle when I loaded and the angle when I shot are the same. I had the rifle set up on my rear bag, aimed at the target, only when I got into the rifle did the barrel lower while settling in, then brought back to the target. Plus there was a good 1,000 feet of mountain above the target on this particular range. But that can definitely be an issue on a much flatter range with a standard berm, thanks for point that out.
@@Halfmilesniper welcome. I just get really anxious when I see somebody close the bolt and they're not exactly ready to fire immediately after.
the colder denser wetter air makes the bulet go slower, not by much so thanks for showing how little it was
No problem 👍that is exactly why I ran the chrono for these shots even though I had chrono'd the load a couple days before...weather differences.
@@Halfmilesniperdo u know if h4831 is a temp stable/extreme powder? are you using h4831sc or regular? id be curious at what point the temp difference matters, since we mostly load when its hot and hunt when its cold.
@@allthingsconsidered3211 Both H4831 and H4831sc are supposedly less temp sensitive, but still somewhat affected. I haven't seen anything that gives a definitive high/low but consensus seems to be it is more affected by the overall conditions rather than just temp. I have been using H4831 but recently obtained some H4831sc that I have not yet loaded.
ive also seen low pressure cold wet air make the bullet go faster. id be curious on a video if youre posting. hot vs cold and wet vs dry. thanks for sharing
