    Well presented and full of good information. However when it comes to waiting in between coats try sealing the spray gun inside a plastic bag with the open end tied with a shoe lace. No air gets inside the bag so the paint stays wet. This way your tip doesn't dry out , and no need to clean or mess around with the tip. When you come to your next coat of paint just pull it out of the bag and carry on where you left off. I have left my spray gun over night in the tied up bag if I am continuing to paint in the same colour the following day and only clean the gun out when I've totally finished spraying. Hope this tip is useful to you or your followers. Kind regards. Tim, from the UK.

    Hi Molly, I have been researching the Wagner Flexio 5000 because I have a big project coming up. That project is painting our kitchen cabinets. Never using a paint sprayer is a bit intimating I must admit but after finding and watching your video, I feel much more comfortable in tackling the job. I must say that this video is by far the best one on RUclips explaining this paint sprayer. You have a new subscriber and thank you for what you do.😄

    great video, purchased this to stain a very large deck (nearly 800 square feet with 110' of railing with 2" square wooden balusters). This unit saved A LOT of labor time. If possible could you include the cleaning procedure of the larger sprayer, I think I got it right but wasn't sure how many parts are removable. I used the detail sprayer for the railing and the larger sprayer for the flooring. Even after cleaning (I cleaned a couple times during the job as it was several hours), the stain clumped a bit using the larger sprayer, but it seemed to only clump from one side of the spray pattern. I didn't have this issue using the detail sprayer.

    Great tutorial video, very helpful. Wondered the same thing about cleanup. I'm wondering about use of alkyd (oil) paints and primers, one in terms of application and two in terms of cleanup. I use a lot of oil-based paints. I find it easier to clean oil brushes than latex because I just suspend the brush in a small can of paint thinner for three or four days and almost all the paint solids simply fall off the brush to the bottom. Then only three or four "rinses" with paint thinner in a can and it's clean. Brushes basically clean themselves. I reuse paint thinner dozens of times because the solids drop out of it after storing and it's clear. Anyway, what is your experience with oil based paints? Might the equipment be cleaned the same way, just let it clean itself? Thanks.

    • @timothyarnold777
      @timothyarnold777 Год назад

      Obviously when you use oil based material you will have to flush the gun out several times with solvent cleaner such as thinners or white spirits. I just add thinners to the paint cup and spray it out against some cardboard (please remember that thinners is highly inflammable, care is required here when disposing of any cardboard or rags used to clean out the gun ) then strip down and clean all the parts of the gun that have come into contact with the paint/ primmer with a old paint brush and dry with paper towel or rag. You will need to do this as soon as possible after spraying because if you let the oil based material begin to cure inside the gun you will end up throwing the gun away as it will be very difficult to clean. Hope this helps. Kind regards. Tim from the UK.

    This might be a dumb question, but do you have to pull the drawers out and do anything for the lip of the drawers or does spraying with them in work fine?? I have a big dresser I want to paint, spraying would be so much easier. Thanks.

    • @VintageGraceRustedRose

      The drawers do not need to come out to spray. I prefer to keep the drawers in and go back and do the drawer edges by hand.

    I'm back! I couldn't get my 5000 to spray without blotchy spattering that didn't cover. I was spraying Ben Moore alkyd (oil) primer. It's pretty thick but apparently that shouldn't be a problem (and so I thinned it a little). Everything is clean now so I'm not anxious to test again. Could it be that I didn't have the big yellow nut that holds the nozzle on tight enough? I didn't really give it any thought, but I know it was loose enough to allow for easy turning of the spray head. If it's a bit too loose, would that cause splotchy spattering with no true pattern? Very little primer was coming out and I would have to go over the same area multiple times, and even it was uneven and bumpy. Thanks, hope someone can help.

    • @wrthomas69

      I had a similar situation as you. I bought this unit to spray an absolutely enormous deck 800 ft.² and 110 feet of railing. All pressure-treated wood. I used Home Depot brand premium. Solid color stain. The detail sprayer worked very well after I got the Settings correct. I use this for the railings and ballisters. I then switched to the larger sprayer to do the floor as it has a much wider spray pattern. Using the same exact stain the unit cap putting out blotchy spray pattern. I can tell you if the nozzle nut is not tight the unit will continue to leak Stain out of the end even after the trigger is not pulled and the unit is shut off the nozzle continued to leak. Once I tightened the nut completely, it stopped leaking. But I was never able to get a nice even spray pattern. It seemed like my gun was clumping up on one side of the spray pattern. Maybe there was an air hole somewhere that was plugged up. I did not thin the stain with water as I did not need to do it with a smaller sprayer. Luckily, the clumping up was not a large issue as it was the floor of the decking so I simply kept a roller handy to spread out and even the stain. Even with the shortcomings of this unit, it decreased the time to stay in the stack by at least 10 fold. Well worth the $220 I spent on it from Amazon.

    • @rla1000
      @rla1000 Год назад

      @@wrthomas69 I decided I'm not going to use the sprayer for oil based primer or paint. The cleaning process is too messy and takes forever. I'm a big believer in oil and will still use it, but apply with a brush. There's not much to "cleaning" oil paint from brushes as they basically self-clean. I just suspend them in a can of paint thinner and in three or four days - or less - all of the solids have dropped of the brushes and settle to the bottom of the can, and a couple of "rinses" with more paint thinner and they're done. The paint thinner can be used dozens of times, I just let it sit in a big coffee can, the solids settle out and it's clear, and use it over and over. (I hate cleaning latex brushes because it takes forever running under water to get all the paint out).
      Anyway, I think possibly the primer I was using had been sitting around too long. I think fresh primer would have been okay. I did use the sprayer with a fresh can of "Stix" primer, which is water-borne, and had better results.
      I have to say I don't think much of Wagner's product support, which is non-existent. I wrote to them on their "contact" page and explained my issue in detail and never heard back. They have a few really crappy videos, supposedly some dealing with troubleshooting (less than two minutes long, lol) and didn't explain anything. And then they don't allow comments on their videos, clearly they don't monitor. Really disappointing for a $200 million company. Nothing turns me off about a company like this does. As I recently purchased the unit, I may return it and buy a different brand.

    • @wrthomas69
      @wrthomas69 Год назад

      I would agree about the lack of customer support. I sent an initial inquiry asking what would be the best product for my situation, and they immediately pointed me toward the flexio 4000 and 5000. Even though I asked them specifically about the control spray max which is about half the price of the 5000 they kept pointing me toward the more expensive units. I I bought this specifically to do this deck and plan on selling the house before the deck needs to be stained again, so I may, keep it or possibly sell it used. I can’t see myself using it indoors. The one issue I did have, which was my fault was that I started using paint that was a year old and must of had some kind of skim on top, which got mixed into the paint, so it kept plugging up the uptake tube. Once I started screening the paint, the results were better and I had no issue when using a brand new can.
